Jason Mironchuck, host of Mironchuck Now, presents a compelling thesis regarding the current societal shift towards what he terms “vengeful sons.” Together we explore the intricate dynamics of cultural transformation, tracing a trajectory from the oppressive “tyrannical father” archetype, through the “devouring mother,” and into the present state characterized by the anger and disillusionment of young men. Mironchuck articulates how these archetypes influence contemporary masculinity and societal structures, suggesting that the rising tide of male resentment is a reaction to systemic failures and cultural upheaval. KEY TAKEAWAYSWe've transitioned from the Devouring Mother era to the Vengeful Son era, characterized by directed resentment and revolutionary impulse. The Vengeful Son spirit is dangerous because it feels like justice while actually being harmful vengeance.Modern anger often stems from pride and vainglory - we're upset because things didn't work out as we wanted. The antidote to cultural breakdown is "return, repent, redeem" - modeling Christ rather than revolutionA peaceful heart ripples outward, affecting others through mimetic desire for good rather than destruction.Focus on fulfilling the duties of your God-given roles rather than seeking influence over abstract cultural forces.CONNECT WITH JASON YouTubeX/TwitterSubstack

The Primal Happiness Show
Lost boys and found connection: The initiation of modern men - Mark Walsh

The Primal Happiness Show

Play Episode Listen Later Mar 31, 2025 54:59

This week's show is with Mark Walsh. Mark has spent the last 20 years helping people get out of their heads and into their bodies—sometimes gracefully, sometimes not. He's the author of The Body in Coaching and Training and Embodied Meditation, and hosts The Embodiment Podcast, which has over 3 million downloads. He also ran The Embodiment Conference, ambitiously featuring 1,000 teachers and half a million attendees, which happened to be the world's largest Zoom event. As the founder of Embodiment Unlimited, Mark has trained over 2,000 embodiment coaches across 40+ countries (some of which still let him back in). His latest project, Feral Philosophy, is a deeper, more unfiltered look at embodiment, free from the usual wellness clichés. His work has taken him from an alcoholic to a psychology graduate; from war zones to boardrooms; from teaching yogis and coaches to working with police and military personnel. He also co-founded Sane Ukraine, now run by Ukrainian professionals to provide trauma and embodiment training for therapists, trainers, and coaches. With a background in psychology, aikido (black belt), and various movement practices—including yoga, meditation, dance, bodywork, and improv comedy—Mark blends deep expertise with a refreshingly direct, down-to-earth style. He's worked with companies like Google, Unilever, and Shell, though he's much happier when he's not wearing a suit. He swears more than most coaches, dances worse than he thinks, and isn't a fan of fluffy self-help talk—but he is passionate about helping people reconnect with themselves in a real, practical way. In this potent and timely conversation, Lian journeys with Mark into the heart of the crisis facing young men today. Together, they explore the four profound disconnections at the root of modern suffering - body, social, ecological, and spiritual - and how restoring these essential connections can guide young men from isolation to purposeful living. Reflecting on Mark's own transformative journey from troubled youth to mentor, they discuss the critical role of strength and embodiment in building resilience, character, and spiritual depth. Mark shares how genuine community and meaningful rites of passage can fill the void left by our culture's forgotten initiations, nurturing the very soul of young men. Drawing from mythological truths, ancient principles, and real-life experiences, Lian and Mark highlight how reconnecting with nature and spirit can profoundly heal both individual lives and wider cultural decay. They illuminate practical pathways for guiding young men back to themselves, toward greater meaning, joy, and wholeness. Ultimately this conversion shines a light on how we might help young men return to themselves, reclaim their inherent value beyond societal expectations in our fractured modern world. We'd love to know what YOU think about this week's show. Let's carry on the conversation… please leave a comment wherever you are listening or in any of our other spaces to engage. What you'll learn from this episode: Physical strength is not merely a superficial pursuit; it is a foundational virtue that creates resilience, self-awareness, and deeper character in young men, providing a doorway to emotional and spiritual growth. In a culture that has largely lost authentic initiation rituals, young men face isolation and confusion - yet re-establishing community, connection to nature, and meaningful mentorship can profoundly alter their trajectory. The modern meaning crisis arises from deep disconnection - body, social, ecological, and spiritual. To heal this, each of us must consciously reconnect, embracing practices that nurture the soul, restoring a sense of genuine meaning and purpose. Why do so many men feel like they're dead inside? Modern life is crushing men, disconnecting them from their purpose, their power, and their bodies. In this hard-hitting episode, I sit down with embodiment expert Mark Walsh to explore how men have lost their way—and how they can reclaim their masculine energy, confidence, and sense of meaning.  We dive deep into the impact of modernity on men's mental health, the numbing effects of disembodiment, and the simple but powerful practices that can bring men back to life. If you've ever felt lost, uninspired, or stuck in your head, this episode is a wake-up call you won't want to miss. Mr Embodiment” (Mark Walsh) is the author of The Body in Coaching and Training: An introduction to embodied facilitation, and Embodied Meditation. He hosts The Embodiment Podcast (2 million+ downloads), and led The Embodiment Conference (1000 teachers, 500,000 delegates). Seeing a theme yet?   He founded the Embodied Facilitator Course, and has trained over 2000 embodiment coaches in over 40 other countries (some of which will even let him back in). He recently went out to Ukraine twice during the recent conflict and set up saneukraine.org - a charity now run solely by Ukrainian professional to provide trauma and embodiment training to trainers, therapists and coaching. He gained an honours in psychology (despite been an alcoholic at the time), and has taught widely in the corporate world where he pretended to be a grown up for years, including with blue-chip companies (e.g. Google, Unilever, Shell, Axa, L'Oreal) whom he charged wayyyy too much as they made him wear a suit. He has also upset... sorry, taught... many yogis, NGOs, police officers and several militaries. He has worked in war zones, and entertained over 50,000 children. He has headlined International Coach Federation events, taught at Moscow State University, lived with the circus in Ethiopia, taught celebrities and kissed a princess.    Mark is an aikido black belt, and also has 25 years of experience of other martial arts, with yoga, bodywork, improv comedy, conscious dance and meditation. We may have unintentionally swung the pendulum on women's rights and equality in a way that is creating unforeseen consequences for men and boys. We're talking about male inequality and sorting through some of the biggest contributing factors affecting fathers, sons, husbands, and boyfriends. The mounting data is telling a story of women being able to live well without the need for men and in the absence of a well defined male role in our modern society, men are on the decline. Males are struggling with education, agency, purpose, and seeing higher numbers of suicide. Richard Reeves joins Tom Bilyeu to highlight some key points that we as a society must take into consideration as we decide how to move forward. Richard was named one of the top 50 thinkers in the US for his work on class and inequality. He's also the author of the book, Of Boys and Men. Disturbing factors Richard is underlining in this conversation includes: Women no longer need marriage to survive and marriage is proving to be more important to men than women Deinstitutionalization of masculinity in a cultural problem Biology, culture, and the individual thrive together and not apart from one another Check out Richard Reeves book, Of Boys and Men: https://www.amazon.com/Boys-Men-Modern-Struggling-Matters/dp/0815739877 [Original air date: 5-11-23]. Gender roles and equality continue to be a hot topic of discussion. As women make progress in the workplace, gender pay gaps improve, educational opportunities are getting better as women break glass ceilings. Every action has a reaction and now we're starting to see unintended problems arise for men. There is a mating crisis stemming from the masculinity crisis that has men and women questioning what it means to be a man. Chris Williamson is a podcaster, YouTuber, and former professional party boy. His podcast Modern Wisdom is the inside journey of him learning out loud from some of the most interesting people on the planet. He's working on his first book about the mating crisis and joining Tom in this thought provoking conversation about masculinity that doesn't diminish femininity. With women outperforming men in education and earning more than men in 2023 while also being the gatekeepers of sex men are turning to porn and video games, while women struggle to find male partners that complement their success.
