We continue to celebrate the life of the legendary cartoonist John Cassaday who tragically died on September 9th. He was one of Jimmy's closest friends. Jimmy shares some stories of their friendship and adventures. He also asked some of John's friends/colleagues to send in their memories of him as well. They talk about his incredible body of work, how they met, fun times together and more. Thanks so much to Ben Raab, Paul Pope, Heidi MacDonald, CB Cebulski, John Layman, Fabio Moon, Laura Martin, Michael Avon Oeming, Lorraine Cink, Nick Barrucci, Dean Haspiel, Marta Balusek and Producer Joe for sharing their reflections on John. This is an emotional and raw episode but also full of love and light. We all love and miss him terribly. We were all lucky to have him in our lives. His legacy will keep his energy around us eternally.  Thanks for listening.

*This is the 200th episode actually published. In Frew 1893, Dudley Hogarth the Frew publisher in his Message from the Publisher suggested that the short story "The Future Phantom: Forever" may be worth a podcast. We listened and here is our thoughts of the 8 page story by Andrew Constant and Massimo Gamberi. To begin with we go over every story and future Phantom which includes the 27th from the Defenders of the Earth TV Show, the 24th from the Phantom 2040 TV Show and a host of others from publishers like Fantomen and Dynamite Entertainment. Andrew also joins us and we go over the story with him. What began as a 40 minute planned podcast has turned into a 80 minute discussion between Andrew Constant and the team (Jermayn Parker, Stephen East and Dan Fraser).Where do you sit with this story? We are joined by past Phantom Team Fantomen & Moonstone writer, Ben Raab who wrote 23 Phantom stories over a decade between 1999 and 2009.Some of his stories include the popular "The Spear of Destiny" saga, "The Hero", "The Invisible Phantom" which won Norwegian best story in 2001, the first team we see Kit and Heloise as the joint 22nd Phantom in "The First Assignment" for Team Fantomen. After Egmont he wrote several classic stories for Moonstone including the first two graphic novels "The Ghost Killer" and "The Singh Web" which was his adaption of the 1996 movie along with classic stories exploring the mythos of the Phantom in "Curse of the Phantom", "The Aviatrix" and "Legacy".Eager phans may know that Ben Raab has been making waves in Hollywood since with writing credits for "Warehouse 13", "Flash", "Arrow" and currently "Legacies". So obviously we end the podcast talking about how he would write a Phantom TV show series. One of the questions we ask is could the Phantom exist being a hero in Africa in a TV show with a possible white saviour label being used against him? Ben also tells us how he would write a Phantom TV show.As always the video will show slides, art examples and props as we discuss the Phantom. As we draw closer and closer to the final story in the 1990's Green Lantern run, Just One of the Guys takes a look at issue 179 of the book, where a weary, frustrated, and down right pissed off Kyle Rayner decides to go directly to the source of his problems and make like Rowdy Roddy Piper sans bubble gum (Rest in peace, good sir). Unfortunately the source isn't the writing desk of Ben Raab, but the shadowy government office of Major Force. But while Kyle is busy wrecking up the place, fellow Green Lantern John Stewart just happens to be in the neighborhood and tries to get Kyle to deal with his problems rationally. This goes about as well as you'd expect it to and "consequences" (Copyright Alan and Emily Middleton, 2014, all rights reserved) get handed out between our two heroes. It's definitely a middle chapter of the story, but it keeps us moving to what looks to be a satisfying ending. So unless you want me to include MORE Tommy Shaw soundtrack songs in upcoming episodes, I suggest you grab your mp3 player of choice, download the show, and start to listening!Feedback for this show can be sent to: justoneoftheguyspodcast@gmail.comJust One Of The Guys is a proud member of the Two True Freaks! Hey everyone, and welcome back to episode 176 of Just One of the Guys: A Green Lantern Podcast. In today's scrotum slashing episode, we begin our winding down of this era of Green Lantern comics with the much needed return of the author that introduced the character of Kyle Rayner to comics, Ron Marz. With issue 176, Marz tries his hardest to address and fix all of the problems that Ben Raab did to the book during his run as well as wrap up not only the Kyle Rayner era of Green Lantern, but quite possibly the 90's era of DC as a whole. And if you're prone to click-bait headlines dominating your newsfeed, this one might read like "YOU'LL NEVER GUESS WHO KYLE RAYNER FOUND SHOWERING IN HIS OWN APARTMENT! IT'S TOO HOT EVEN FOR PRINT!!!" Plus, as an immense bonus for your listening enjoyment, His Excellency Trentus Magnus (host of Trentus Magnus Punches Reality) has graced this show with his wisdom and presence and will be spelling out how this is one of his favorite stories from the Green Lantern run. You should all be humbled that our podcasting lord was kind enough to grace us with his wit and wisdom. Plus we get a resolution to the job search for John Stewart's girlfriend, Merayn, as well as Jenny trying desparately to get Hottie McEmeraldFever to give her a little "sumthin' sumthin'". I can only imaging there are brothel workers who would look at this portrayal and say, "Well, at least I'm not THAT much of a whore." ... ... ... More pain is dealt out on today's episode of JUST ONE OF THE GUYS, as we continue our look at the Ben Raab run on Green Lantern with issue 172 of the book. Kyle, in his Raspberry Shadowhawk disguise, tries to prove that he's worthy for membership in the Black Circle crime organization by hunting down a villanous squid who decapitates people with pink ninja stars. Yes, you read that correctly. And THIS is one of the better books in Ben Raab's run. Plus, as a palate cleanser, I'm also taking a look at the very trippy story Green Lantern: Willworld. For some reason, Hal Jordan has been transported into a strange world populated with immense Buddha-like characters, talking grasshoppers, and giant floaty heads. No, seriously...not like the Guardians, but giant disembodied heads. It's like writer J.M. DeMatteis wanted to set Green Lantern in the Yellow Submarine movie. Not that that is a bad thing. So unless you want to incur the wrath of Salmon Shadowhawk, I suggest you grab your mp3 player of choice, download the show, and get to listening!Feedback for this show can be sent to: justoneoftheguyspodcast@gmail.comJust One Of The Guys is a proud member of the Two True Freaks! Seriously, Kyle is off in space trying to be a hero and Jenny can't NOT f*ck someone for the limited time he's gone?!? ... ... Sorry, it's just really hard to be positive about these books right now. Although after finding out that the comic we are covering today, Green Lantern #170, is the four color equivalent of a clip show, you might have wished for the show to just slowly be forgotten. Regardless, today John Stewart, Terry Berg, Merayn Dethalis, and Jenny Lynn Hayden get caught up on all the goings on in Kyle's life over the past few issues, via a holo-crystal delivered by former youthful Guardian of the Universe and current stripper wannabe, Lianna. After that the group is able to leave messages about what has been happening in their lives, except for Jenny, who opts out of revealing that she has been a cheating whore. ... ... Sorry, I'm a little irked with the way Ben Raab is handling the character. Meanwhile on Earth, Jenny Lynn Hayden is dealing with Kyle being away by giving out her phone number to some attractive Wall Street douch nozzle in hopes that she might be able to score while Kyle is out saving the universe. Our look at the Green Lantern books in the Benjamin Raab era hits a little bumpy patch with this week's issue, a story entitled "Deicide". While still on the lookout for Amon Sur and the Black Circle, Kyle runs across a planet that was terrorized by supposed rouge Green Lanterns, and he ends up having to attempt to kill the planet's deity in order to appease the populace. Plus we get to see some of the goings on on Earth, with Terry talking to an obvious Larry King analogue and Merayn getting sexually harrassed at a job inteview. Yeah, the cracks are starting to show, but still not nearly as bad as I've been lead to believe. No, this isn't what happens to you when you stare at the character of Lianna for too long......but a cosmic cloud thingee that just likes to make stars go supernova and blow planets up and stuff. Yeah, not exactly an original idea, but the story of Kyle dealing with it with help from Tibby the Space Turtle and interference from Space FEMA is actually pretty entertaining and makes me wonder what all the fuss about Ben Raab's run on the book is. Everything has changed again...except that it really hasn't...all that much. Yes, I know that is a trite cliché, and I'm sorry I have to use it again, but things keep changing in the Green Lantern books, and so it also must on JUST ONE OF THE GUYS. This time out, in Green Lantern #165, the change is a new creative team in writer Ben Raab and artist Rick Burchett and a new story with Kyle attempting to recruit a new Green Lantern Corps in order to hunt down Amon Sur and the Black Circle. There's an introduction of a character that'll make his way into the current run of Green Lantern seeded in the book...and there's also some truly punny tales in there as well. Is the Ben Raab run going to lead to the downfall of the series like so many have told me? We'll just have to find out together. So unless you want Agraria-7...a farm planet (SIGH!!!)...to be invaded by giant space bugs, I suggest you grab your mp3 player of choice, download the show, and start to listening.Feedback for this show can be sent to: justoneoftheguyspodcast@gmail.comJust One Of The Guys is a proud member of the Two True Freaks! Today on JUST ONE OF THE GUYS: A GREEN LANTERN PODCAST we reach aonther endpoint. Not only for the Black Circle: Urban Knights crossover between Green Arrow and Green Lantern, but also for writer Judd Winick on his run on the book. After finding out the not too shocking revelation of exactly who Amon Sur was, we're treated to a duo of tales about how Oliver Queen and Kyle Rayner put aside their differences and work as the 2000's version of the Hard Travelling Heroes...well, at least until Hal comes back. Plus there's more familiar art from Charlie Adlard that makes you glad that Amon never picked up a barb wired baseball bat in the books. So unless you want the old arrow in the tailpipe gag to happen...and we know NO ONE wants that, I suggest you grab your mp3 player of choice, download the show, and get to listening!Feedback for this show can be sent to: justoneoftheguyspodcast@gmail.comJust One Of The Guys is a proud member of the Two True Freaks! The Black Circle: Urban Knights story rolls along (you see...it's a pun) on this Friday's episode of JUST ONE OF THE GUYS: A GREEN LANTERN PODCAST. First, in Green Arrow #24 we get introduced to Amon Sur, son of the former GL of Sector 2814 and law enforcement officer in his own right, who teams up with our heroes to take out the intergalactic drug cartel. Then in Green Lantern #163 we see just how well an old man like Oliver Queen stacks up against a warehouse full of blaster armed extraterrestrials. No spoilers, but he pretty much mops the floor with them. And it wouldn't be a proper Green Lantern/Green Arrow crossover on Just One of the Guys without a guest spot from one of the hosts of the Relatively Geeky Podcast Network, Professor Alan Middleton. And it was quite a coup to have him on, as these books were acquired for nearly five times the amount that he has to pay for his own books, something that DiManziCorp is filing reimbursement papers for as we speak. Look for that check in the mail, Professor. Anyhow, unless you want a ring construct rhino dropped on you, I suggest you grab your mp3 player of choice, download the show, and start to listening!Feedback for this show can be sent to: justoneoftheguyspodcast@gmail.comJust One Of The Guys is a proud member of the Two True Freaks! It's nearly closing time for Judd Winick on the Green Lantern books, and Ben Raab is poised to step in and tell his stories. But before we get to that, we've got the final Green Lantern/Green Arrow crossover in the JUST ONE OF THE GUYS era, which surprisingly features books by both Judd winick and Ben Raab. In issue #23 of Green Arrow, we get newly back from the dead archer, Oliver Queen, doing what he normally does...taking down some drug smuggling goons. But for some reason these goons are smuggling high grade bleach. Weird...Meanwhile, Green Lantern Kyle Rayner has a run in with some aliens who are doing dirty deals with the mob, which leads to the inevitable GL/GA team up...which doesn't go as well as it did back in the Hal and Ollie days. And in issue #162 of Green Lantern the plot thickens as Conner Hawke breaks up the Ollie and Kyle tussle and Kyle makes friends with some DiManzo "relations"...if you know what I mean. Plus, I'm joined by first time guest and host of The Invincible Ironcast: Classics Edition, Mr. Michael Staley who brings his fandom of Green Arrow to the show. Plus art by soon to be (at least by time of the book's publication) Walking Dead artist, Charlie Adlard, so comparisons to those characters abound. So unless you want to b beaten up by ring construct Sumo wrestlers, I suggest you grab your mp3 player of choice, download the show, and get to listening!Feedback for this show can be sent to: justoneoftheguyspodcast@gmail.comJust One Of The Guys is a proud member of the Two True Freaks! Being nearly a god will make you do some really foolish things is something we discover on the latest episode of JUST ONE OF THE GUYS: A GREEN LANTERN PODCAST. This week, in out coverage of Green Lantern #149, we see Kyle as the omnipotent Ion essentially render the Justice League of America impotent by handling a massive alien invasion while chillaxing at a staff meeting on The Watchtower. This, of course, raises concern with the Man of Steel, Superman, who has a little discussion with Kyle about what it is to be a hero. More exceptional writing from Judd Winick make this a great read. Add to that the coverage of Green Lantern: Secret Files and Origins #3, and you've got yourself a heck of a show...well, maybe not quite so great as the main story is written by Ben Raab and really does a number on the character of Jenny Lynn Hayden. Plus you get an idea of what Kyle's "City Dwellers" comic from Feast Magazine would be like, a story about a shadowy agency run by a guy with a skull for a head, and some awkward Who's Who type entries featuring Terry Berg going through his morning cleaning ritual. Yeah...so that was a thing. But on the upside, I'm joined by my good friend from the shows Parallel Lines: The DC Comics Tangent Universe Podcast and Superman and Batman, Mr. Michael Bradley, and we spend a good amount of time talking about how amazing Superman is in the Green Lantern issue. So, unless you want Kyle to wish you into the cornfield, I suggest you grab your mp3 player of choice, download the show, and start to listening!Feedback for this show can be sent to: justoneoftheguyspodcast@gmail.comJust One Of The Guys is a proud member of the Two True Freaks!
