Johnson attended Ohio State University where he played for the Buckeyes and was named to the All Big 10 Team in 2000. Johnson played as a defensive end for the B.C. Lions during his career in the CFL.  He was a two-time CFL All-Star and won the Grey Cup championship twice during his career, retiring after winning his second Grey Cup in 2011. ‘It was intentional to leave when I left. It was my decision. It was mine and I wanted it that way. And I was ready to move on. I was never going to get an ending like we had in 2011. I would never get the rollercoaster ride that was that season. And then march that into playoffs. Into a Grey Cup in Vancouver for the only team I've played for, to go win it that year and to go out a champion under the lights where you called home for the last 11 years,' said Johnson. Throughout his career, Johnson was recognized for his outstanding performance, setting numerous records and receiving several accolades, including the Dick Suderman Trophy, awarded to the top Canadian defensive player in the CFL. Marjanovich asked if Johnson had a tough time transitioning from a being an athlete to the business world. ‘I don't think it's smooth for any athlete, just because the way that you measure yourself as an athlete, and I think the feedback loop of the signs that you're doing well, or how you are progressing are in the right place. It's much bigger in the working world or the corporate world outside of the athletics world.' Suitor joins ‘The Moj' to talk about his playing and broadcasting career, including Carson Graham and Simon Fraser University. ‘Four years at S.F.U., I played corner all four years. Got to meet guys like Jay Triano, he was a great basketball player as you know, but tried out for the football team and we were actually roommates for a year. I learned a lot about just approaching every practice and every day with great maturity from Jay'. Suitor transitioned into broadcasting, becoming a color commentator for TSN's CFL broadcasts. ‘What made the difference was that we had won in 89 and I just kept looking at my ring and I kept thinking, that's why you play to be part of a championship. And I've been able to live that and experience that. So maybe this opportunity it's time to take that leap and take the step into a new business and a new world and retire from football'. The extracurricular activities that go on in these remote communities effects a lot of our youth's mental health and we talk about intergenerational trauma and I'm a prime example of that.  I chose to stop one cycle and start a new cycle for my immediate family and to give my kids an opportunity to grow up in a safe environment'. He played as a right winger and was drafted by the Nashville Predators in the fourth round of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. Tootoo also played for the Detroit Red Wings, the New Jersey Devils, and the Chicago Blackhawks before retiring in 2018. He was born in Samoa, and went on to play college football at the University of Southern California (USC) from 2001 to 2004, where he was a part of two Collegiate Championship teams. ‘We didn't care about anything other than winning each other and winning. And it was, the most fun you could ever picture football to be in 26 games. We went 25 and one. With two national titles, the one loss triple overtime, we turned the ball over five or six times to a guy by the name of Aaron Rodgers. You don't want to give him that many opportunities, I'll tell you that,' says Tatupu. The son of Mosi Tatupu who played 14 seasons in the NFL, Tatupu was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the second round of the 2005 NFL Draft. He quickly established himself as a key player on the Seahawks' defense and was named to the Pro Bowl in each of his first three seasons. ‘It was a lot of hard work, and I think that's what people don't see is they just get to see game day hoisting the national title. They don't see everything that went into it. The hours of film study, the workouts everything, all the practice. I definitely believe everything happens for a reason. I'd like to think I helped those teams, but I definitely fell into some great situations.' During his six seasons with the Seahawks, Tatupu helped lead the team to two NFC Championships and a Super Bowl appearance in 2006, where they lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was also named to the All-Pro team in 2007. Injuries began to take a toll on Tatupu's career, and he was released by the Seahawks in 2011. Cameron was hired by the Western Hockey League (WHL) at age of 23, a league where he would end up spending a total of 9 seasons, where he was selected to work 2 Memorial Cup championships. He skated in his first NHL Regular Season Game on October 5th, 1996 close to home in Vancouver, BC at the General Motors Place when the Calgary Flames were in town to play the Canucks. His last game was in Vancouver against San Jose, April 3, 2019. Cameron was instrumental in the implementation of video review technology to assist referees in making difficult calls and was known for his ability to control the game and maintain a high level of discipline among the players. ‘You either can either conform or you don't. If I have to hit my whistle, you aren't going to like the results here. From the standpoint of the coaching staff Pat Quinn, he being GM here, (Vancouver) those first years, he was really tough and intimidating. He just had a way about him'. Marjanovich asked Cameron about the travel required to be an NHL linesman. ‘It's not quite a full two game, two-day average, but you're 150 nights (in hotels) and about 20,000 miles, in the air to pull that off. It's hard on the body'. He was also respected for his communication skills, which he used to explain his calls to players and coaches in a calm and clear manner. His approach to officiating was always focused on the game and the players, rather than on himself or his own ego. Cameron was assigned to work the 1994 Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway and officiated in the NHL for 23 seasons. The Rockets, with Gorges as team captain won the Memorial Cup in 2004 when Kelowna hosted the event. ‘I kept thinking to myself, what a way to go out, what a way to finish my junior career, to be able to win a Memorial Cup in my home city for my hometown team as the captain, and then go on to hopefully play pro hockey after that,' says Gorges. ‘So, it was a pretty remarkable time. One of the biggest highlights of my career. Something that I'll never forget. It was amazing.' After going undrafted in 2002, Gorges signed as a free agent with the San Jose Sharks. He is best known for his time with the Montreal Canadiens, where he played from 2007 to 2014. Gorges tells Marjanovich that he refused a trade from the Montreal Canadiens to the Toronto Maple Leafs. ‘When my agent called me and told me that I thought he was joking the first time. I said, they're not going to trade me to Toronto. That's one of our biggest rivals, that they don't make trades with each other. But then when I found out it was real, I just kept thinking, how could I go be the same player that I've been from Montreal, a heart and soul type guy? How could I do that for a team that I've hated for seven plus years? It was Toronto and Boston. You just couldn't imagine yourself playing for those teams after being in Montreal that long.' In addition to the Sharks and Canadiens, Gorges also played for the Buffalo Sabres, where he served as an alternate captain during his time there. He retired from professional hockey in 2019. He quickly made a name for himself as a standout player and was drafted by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the first round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. Johansen made his NHL debut with the Blue Jackets during the 2011-2012 season and quickly became a key player for the team. During the 2013-2014 season, Johansen had a breakout year, scoring 33 goals and recording 30 assists for a total of 63 points. He was named an NHL All-Star for the first time in his career that same season. Marjanovich asked Johansen what was the toughest thing about being a rookie in the national hockey league? ‘For me, it was the consistency. I'd go out one game and I'd make a couple big time plays and score a goal or make a nice assist, and then I wouldn't do anything for four games,' says Johansen. In January 2016, Johansen was traded to the Nashville Predators in exchange for defenseman Seth Jones. He has helped lead the team to multiple playoff appearances, including a trip to the Stanley Cup Finals in 2017 after sweeping the defending Stanley Cup champ Chicago Blackhawks in the first round. ‘We went into that series just like we're coming for their heads, we weren't losing no matter what,' says Johansen. ‘The motivation for me was just through the roof. We just steamrolled. We just kept going and going, but nothing distracted us. We were just a team on a mission, and man, it was so much fun'.
