On this episode of The Sales Gravy Podcast, JBJ sits down with Amy Franko, a sales expert specializing in the mid-market, to discuss pipeline velocity, qualifying deals, and the importance of asking the right questions in sales. Amy shares her insights on how to overcome common sales obstacles and provides practical advice for improving sales performance. Key Takeaways: – Pipeline Velocity as a Critical Metric: Pipeline velocity is essential for sales success, particularly in the mid-market segment where businesses are reaching for ambitious goals. Monitoring how quickly deals move through the pipeline can significantly impact quarterly and yearly outcomes. – Balancing Quality and Speed: Sales teams often struggle to balance quality with pipeline velocity. Moving deals through the pipeline quickly while maintaining high standards, avoiding the pitfall of focusing solely on speed without closing quality deals. – Breaking Up with Prospects: One challenge for sellers is recognizing when to disengage from prospects who show little progress. Find strategies for professionally and respectfully "breaking up" with prospects to avoid wasting time on deals that are unlikely to close. – Adapting to New Products: Sales teams can face difficulties when launching new products. Adoption often picks up once new products become measurable within the sales compensation plan, highlighting the importance of aligning comp plans with product priorities. – Coaching Through Adversity: Amy talks about how mindset plays a critical role in sales success. Coaching sellers to handle adversity effectively, particularly when deals stall or face internal resistance from stakeholders, can make a significant difference in closing deals. – The Importance of Ongoing Training: Continuous learning and training are vital for improving sales performance, especially in qualifying deals. The OutBound Conference provides an excellent opportunity for sales professionals to refine their skills, interact with industry leaders, and learn new strategies to enhance their pipeline management. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fuBcg1JB2yE Understanding Pipeline Velocity Pipeline velocity is a crucial metric for sales teams, especially for those operating in the mid-market. Many companies in this space have dedicated sales teams and hefty goals, and pipeline velocity can be the difference between meeting targets or falling short. At its core, pipeline velocity measures how quickly deals move through the sales pipeline. It's not just about the number of deals in the pipeline but also how fast they progress from one stage to the next. If deals are moving too slowly, there's a risk of losing momentum, and opportunities may slip away. On the other hand, moving deals too quickly without considering quality can result in low win rates or deals that aren't truly solid. In many mid-market organizations, sales teams find themselves in a balancing act. They want to move deals through quickly to meet their goals, but at the same time, they need to maintain a high level of quality. This balance is tricky, and many teams either rush deals that aren't ready or slow down too much, risking missed opportunities. The Challenge of New Products One of the challenges sales teams often face is launching new products or services. Salespeople who are comfortable selling established products may be hesitant to push new offerings, even if they know those products are key to the company's growth. Without the right level of comfort and confidence, sellers may not focus on the new product, preferring to stick with what they know. However, when new products become part of a measurable sales goal or compensation plan, things can change. Sellers are more motivated to include the new product in their conversations with prospects. This shift can lead to increased pipeline velocity, as salespeople become more confident in discussing and selling the new product.

This shift can lead to increased pipeline velocity, as salespeople become more confident in discussing and selling the new product. Knowing When to Move On Another key to pipeline management is knowing when to walk away from a prospect. It's common for sellers to get stuck on deals that are moving slowly. They may have good conversations with the main contact, but other stakeholders in the organization aren't as engaged. This can lead to frustration and wasted time. In these situations, sellers need to recognize the signs that it's time to "break up: with the prospect. You can do this respectfully and professionally by placing the ball back in the prospect's court. Sellers might say something like, “It seems like we're on the same page, but the rest of the organization may not be ready. Why don't we revisit this in six months?” This approach helps the seller avoid wasting time and energy on deals that are unlikely to close while maintaining a positive relationship with the prospect. Continuous Learning and Improvement One thing all sales professionals can agree on is the value of ongoing training. No matter how experienced a seller is, there's always room for improvement, particularly in areas like qualifying deals and pipeline management. Training sessions, such as those offered at the OutBound Conference, help salespeople refine their skills, stay motivated, and stay up to date on the latest sales strategies. By focusing on pipeline velocity, balancing quality and speed, knowing when to walk away, and continuously improving through training, sales teams can increase their chances of success. Whether they're launching new products or fine-tuning their approach to closing deals, these strategies are essential for boosting pipeline performance. Check out Amy's Five Traits of Modern Selling and learn why these traits are setting top performers apart in the new sales economy.

On this important episode of the Sales Gravy Podcast, Jeb Blount, Jr (a.k.a JBJ) discusses personal finance for sales professionals with Ben Lex, a former B2B sales superstar turned financial advisor. Ben shares game-changing insights tailored specifically for sales professionals. The Financial Fitness Mindset In sales, we're all about closing deals, hitting targets, and making more money. But what happens after you receive that hefty commission check? Too often, sales professionals fall into the trap of spending impulsively, only to face financial stress later. This is exactly why you need to adopt a financial fitness mindset which means making deliberate, strategic decisions about your money, just as you do with your sales strategy. Delayed Gratification: Your Secret Weapon One of the most powerful tools in your financial arsenal is the ability to delay gratification. True financial stability comes from resisting the urge to splurge on every big commission check. Instead, consider setting aside a portion of your earnings for future goals. This practice not only builds financial security but also reduces stress during lean months. Build An Emergency Fund An emergency fund is non-negotiable. Sales professionals, especially those with variable incomes, should have enough saved to cover six months to one year of living expenses. This safety net acts as a buffer, ensuring you're not living paycheck to paycheck and allowing you to make decisions from a place of strength rather than desperation. Unload High-Interest Debt Carrying high-interest debt is like running a marathon with a backpack full of bricks. It slows you down and makes reaching your financial goals much harder. Paying off high-interest debt should be your top priority. This includes credit card balances and high-interest car loans. This means spreading your investments across various asset classes to mitigate risk and ensure steady growth. If your company offers a 401(k) max it out before you make any other investments. If your company matches investments you make in your 401(k) make sure that you take full advantage of this free money. Leave nothing on the table. Remember, investing is a long-term game. It's about building wealth gradually, not getting rich overnight. Set Clear Financial Goals Just as you set sales targets, setting clear financial goals is essential. Whether you're planning for retirement, saving for your child's education, or aiming to buy a lake house, having specific goals will guide your financial decisions. Welcome to the heavyweight elite, Sergei Pavlovich. Ya boy went out there and starched Curtis Blaydes in just over three minutes on Saturday at a UFC Fight Night event to become the consensus No. 1 contender in the heavyweight division. Could a lot go wrong between now and when Pavlovich might conceivably fight the winner of Jon Jones vs. Stipe Miocic? Sure. Did Blaydes engage in kind of a bizarre strategy in this fight? Yes, he did. But is Pavlovich now arguably the most interesting figure in the 265-pound division outside of JBJ and Stipe? Undoubtedly. Plus, Bellator had a pretty good two-night stop in Hawaii, Nate Diaz fought some jabronis on the streets of New Orleans and Bobby Green had a pretty bad Saturday night. Goddamn, he made that look easy. During the week leading up to UFC 285, Jon Jones said he expected people to be shocked by how effortlessly he'd beat Ciryl Gane for the heavyweight title. Jones said it would be a mismatch and we were all like, well, I don't know if I'd say it's going to be a mis--oh, holy shit. It took Jones all of two minutes, four seconds to choke out Gane and now JBJ is the UFC heavyweight champion, which sounds both outrageous and somehow totally fitting. After it was over, he literally bleated like goat. But IS he the GOAT now? Is he gonna fight Stipe next? How big a shadow does Francis Ngannou's absence cast and do we want to see that superfight even more now? Plus, in the oh, holy shit category, we also present to you: Alexa Grasso. This weekend, at UFC 285… WE FINALLY GET THE RETURN OF JON JONES! On this episode, I will discuss the legacy of JBJ and breakdown the fight!
Matt Barnes joins the show to talk about his departure from Boston and starting his journey in Miami. He walks us through the conversation he had with Chaim Bloom once he found out he was being DFA'd and why he immediately went to Vegas after the news broke. Other topics include the highs and lows from his his 12-year tenure with the Red Sox, his feeling towards the organization after the decision, his conversations with Chaim, Cora, and other Red Sox staff, being a part of one of the greatest baseball teams of all time in 2018, the state of the team now compared to 2018, clubhouse reactions when Vázquez and JBJ left the team, and much more! At the end of the episode we're also ranking all four Red Sox World Series Championships with Matt. It was a hell of a ride with Backpacks in Boston and we think we speak for all Red Sox fans when we wish him the best of luck in Miami! Enjoy! A retired bodyguard-to-the-stars is spilling the beans on his former employer, Jon Bon Jovi. Apparently the band's tours were the stuff of legend, and even included some bad blood between JBJ and Axl Rose and also Sebastian Bach. Steve fondly recalls some old house accounts from the glory days of radio. This Is Us is winding up and it's making for some incredibly emotional viewing. Janet and Steve are in the early preparation stage of their Saturday drive back home. Will they achieve the tight pack that Steve demands, even with their extra items? After a promising start to the short series in Atlanta, the Red Sox found a way to blow Game 2 and come out of the series with a split. The Red Sox are technically still undefeated with beardless Cora (since he got ejected in the sixth inning of Game 2), but a horrendous missed call and lack of reliable relievers spoiled what could've been a turning point for this team. Instead, they drop the second game and lose another contest that seemingly could've been won if they had a legit closer. Jared talks about what the Red Sox' record could look like if they had a legitimate closer since day one. Pat rejoins the show after a short hiatus for the Kentucky Derby (which was held in Kentucky this year), and talks about how if a few ball/strike calls went his way he could still be in the league today. He also explains that the Red Sox' attitude about this series will play a huge factor going into the series against the Rangers this weekend. We also talk about JBJ potentially being a better hitter than Kiké right now, the Bogaerts to the Cardinals rumors, who should be getting more looks for the ninth inning role, and pitching matchups against the Rangers this weekend. Pat also dives into his Kentucky Derby experience and ranks it amongst other live sporting events he's been to. FOLLOW US ON TWITTER AND INSTAGRAM @PODONLANSDOWNE; THEN LEAVE A GOOD REVIEW YA BUTTHEADS It's a marathon-length episode of Pod On Lansdowne as we approach Opening Day 2K22! This week, we dove into the Red Sox outfield corps. What can we expect for this fresh season that lies before us? I sure hope they're all stellar, don't you? We talked about Verdugo, JBJ, our pal Enrique, things of that nature. Throughout the show, we were also joined by a few guests for our AL East preview series! Friend of the program Jordan Katz (@NaturallyKatz11 on Twitter) was welcomed on to talk about his beloved Baltimore Orioles (the Red Sox can't have Adley Rutschman guys. Sorry; I tried to get him to budge). Later, we were pleased to be joined by Emily Nyman (@EmSheDoesIt on Twitter) of the Breaking Balls Pod to discuss the New York Yankees. We screamed at each other for 20 minutes and threatened to take the other's life, just like real rivals should! In all seriousness, thank you to both Jordan and Emily for taking the time to come on the show and talk about their favorite teams! We wrap up the show with some MLB MVP predictions. Pretty straightforward stuff: I will get all of mine correct, while Jake and Liam will not. Simple as that! This episode features a few (and by "a few" I mean "a lot") tangents that go completely off the rails. One of them involves the mascot of the Worcester Red Sox being a QAnon believer. You're just gonna have to listen to the show to find out how we got to that point. VELMA! Opening song is "Baseball" by Hippo Campus, closing song is "Tiny Dancer" by Elton John. Songs introducing the Orioles and Yankees segments respectively are "Kyoto" by Phoebe Bridgers and "Theme From 'New York New York'" by Frank Sinatra.
Spring Training and free agency are in full swing and the Red Sox made 3 splashes this week including the signing of top tier free agent Trevor Story! In this one we discuss our feelings on the move for Story, how we think he'll do at second base and the implications this deal could or couldn't have on Xander in the future, JBJ and our expectations for him this year, who we think Chaim could still sign specifically in the outfield, who we think will play for Bradley if he has a tough year, the depth of our farm system, a hot take about Schwarber and Renfroe, adding bullpen help in Jake Diekman and Matt Strahm, some spring break stories, Chris Sale being injured once again, Alex Cora's beard, our brackets, a few questions, and a whole lot more! Don't forget to follow us on Instagram @gonebridgepodcast and Twitter @gonebridge and we will be back on Friday with Episode 77! Enjoy!
