If you're a child of the 80s, this one is for you. Before the world went purely digital, we were the last of the analog warriors. We were the generation that navigated by the pile of bicycles in the front yard, drank from garden hoses, and understood that the flickering of a streetlight was the ultimate closing bell. In this special 25th-episode celebration, Chris Black takes a nostalgic but gritty look at why the 1980s wasn't just a decade—it was a forge. On this episode:The Last Analog Childhood: Chris reflects on the transition from corded wall phones and busy signals to the birth of the digital frontier. We talk about the absolute freedom of being "off the grid" and the discipline of being home before the "Boss" of the house called time.Weapons of Imagination: From G.I. Joe military operations in the dirt to the patience required to transform a cassette tape into a robot, we revisit the toys that didn't do the work for us. 80s gear required imagination, grit, and a steady supply of D-cell batteries. When Tech Felt Like Magic: Remember the first time you saw an NES or timed a radio recording perfectly for a crush's mixtape? We dive into the era of the Walkman and the VCR, where "on-demand" meant waiting four hours for the right song and praying the tape didn't get eaten.Forged by History: Growing up against the backdrop of the Challenger disaster and the fall of the Berlin Wall taught us about the cost of exploration and the reality of change. Chris discusses how the "Greed is Good" business era paved the way for the entrepreneurs we are today. The 80s Manifesto: Why the foundation of working for what you want and fixing what you break is the ultimate FamBoss advantage. Don't let deferred maintenance become deferred pain. It's time to stop guessing and start leading. Sometimes the most expensive lesson isn't a bad investment or a lost client—it's a noise you decided to ignore. Deferred maintenance always sounds cheaper right up until the moment it isn't. In this episode, Chris Black breaks down a "Truck Week" reality check: when the Ops Manager's truck starts making a sound and the backup won't even turn over, you aren't just looking at a repair bill. You're looking at a business problem. On this episode:The $4,500 Reality: Why a "little vibration" or a "weird hesitation" is never just a noise for long. Chris discusses the true cost of putting off the inevitable and why downtime is the ultimate enemy of uptime. The Safety Net Failure: What happens when your backup isn't actually a backup? We talk about the frustration of a service truck that won't serve and the hidden costs of a "we'll fix it when it breaks" strategy.Data Over Guesswork: Skyler hits the scene to read the codes. Chris explains why smart leaders don't just throw parts at a problem—they look at the data, listen to what the system is saying, and treat every warning sign with the respect it deserves. The Pre-Flight Mindset: In aviation, you don't take off without a check. Why should your service fleet be any different? Learn how to shift from a reactive culture to a preparation culture to protect your schedule and your credibility.Uptime is the Game: At the end of the day, maintenance isn't an expense—it's an investment in your ability to show up for your customers. If you live your life out of a pickup and that pickup is a mess, eventually your business is going to feel like a mess, too. In this episode, Chris Black breaks down the transition from a standard ride to a Mobile Command Center and why your environment is either fueling your production or quietly wearing you down.On this episode:The Psychology of Space: Why your environment dictates your output. In this episode, Chris Black gets incredibly raw about losing his brother and facing a health scare all while trying to keep the momentum of a growing business alive. Stop herding your customers and start serving them. If you're ready to build a process that respects people's time and earns their trust, hit that play button. It started as a simple trip for a new office chair—in and out, no big deal. But it quickly turned into a masterclass in how NOT to run a business. When you treat your customers like cattle in a line rather than people with a purpose, you aren't just being inefficient—you're being disrespectful. In this episode, Chris Black breaks down the "Retail Nightmare" and explains why your ability to "finish the play" is the difference between a one-time sale and a lifetime client. On this episode:The Efficiency Mindset: Why being "busy" is not the same as being productive. You don't just run a company; you anchor a community. If you're ready to move from "Box-Dropper" technology to a "Partnership" mindset, hit play now. In the world of mission-critical communications, a "good deal" on hardware can quickly become the most expensive mistake your business ever makes. This week on The FamBoss Frequency, Chris Black pulls back the curtain on a massive vendor failure that threatened a customer's "Wow" experience and forced a high-stakes showdown in the DCCI shop. If you've ever felt the frustration of a "faceless" company wasting your time, or struggled to lead your family in the heat of a business crisis, this episode is your masterclass in leadership and legacy. On this episode:The Anatomy of a Vendor Failure: Chris breaks down the "7-hour glitch"—a systemic failure where hardware arrived unconfigured and unready. The moment you break the seal on a new piece of hardware, the countdown to obsolescence begins. For years, business owners were forced to "eat the cost" of aging gear just to justify the initial investment. In this episode, Chris Black discusses the massive industry shift toward Equipment as a Service (EaaS) and why owning technology has become a liability while having access to the latest tools is the real asset. On this episode:The Evolution of Leasing: Chris looks at how commercial vehicle leasing and software subscriptions paved the way for a new mindset. Why get stuck with a depreciating asset when you can cycle through the newest safety features and efficiencies?CapEx vs. OpEx: Learn the financial strategy behind moving from a massive capital outlay that drains your cash flow to a predictable monthly operating expense. Chris explains how this shift gives you the freedom to scale your fleet up or down based on actual needs. The Peace of Mind Factor: When you stop being the "owner," you stop being the one responsible for repairs, maintenance, and disposal. If a radio stops or a platform needs an update, it's the provider's job to ensure your uptime—not yours.Future-Proofing Your Mission: For critical sectors like education and emergency services, a technology gap can be dangerous. In the world of business technology, it is easy to get blinded by glossy brochures and a laundry list of technical specifications. But frequency ranges and battery life mean absolutely nothing if they don't solve a headache for the person on the other side of the desk. In this episode, Chris Black challenges leaders and sales teams to move past the "what" and get straight to the "why" of professional communications. On this episode:The Paperweight Trap: Chris explains why the most advanced radio on the planet is just an expensive paperweight if it doesn't translate into tangible value for a transportation director or a site foreman. The True Currency of Connection: Real value isn't found in a manual; it's found in the quiet moments of a workday—like a fleet manager getting their team home for dinner thirty minutes earlier or a bus driver instantly alerting a dispatcher during a medical emergency.Buying Back Peace of Mind: Learn how to reframe your pitch. We aren't just integrating the Horizon platform; we are eliminating dead zones, ensuring DOT compliance, and buying back the time lost to logistical guesswork.Investment vs. Expense: Chris discusses how to shift the conversation from a "line item on a budget" to a "foundation for growth." The trucks are headed back to the yard, the weekend is in sight, and it's time for some Friday Freedom.Today, we're doing things a little differently. To wrap up our first week back on the air, Chris Black is playing a round of "Two Truths and a Lie" regarding his journey at DCCI. Think you know the man behind the mic? Think again.Chris lays out three "facts" about his rise from the service bay to the President's office. One of them is a total fabrication, and the other two are the gritty reality of what it takes to build a legacy in the Alabama heat. This isn't just a game—it's a look at why having "dirt on your boots" makes you a better leader and why DCCI will always be a "technician-first" company. On today's episode, can you spot the lie?The Odd Job: Was Chris a professional repo man before taking the helm? The Career Pivot: Did he almost trade the radio business for a BBQ food truck in 2022?The Grunt Work: Is it true he started by crawling under dashboards in July to rig 12-volt systems?Tune in to hear the reveal, the lessons learned from the "un-glamorous" years, and a Friday reflection on why stewardship is the ultimate goal of the FamBoss.
Description: In 1994, the "beep-beep-beep" of a pager was the gold standard of business communication. Today, we're deploying AI-driven dash cams and real-time GPS fleet tracking. The tech has undergone a total revolution, but at DCCI, the mission hasn't moved an inch in over 30 years. In this "Throwback Tech" episode, Chris Black bridges the gap between the legacy and the cutting-edge solutions driving Alabama businesses in 2026. While we've moved from "call me back" to "I can see your entire fleet's safety score," the core value remains the same: Reliability over everything.Learn why a 1994 pager can teach us more about modern business than most AI gurus. Chris explains the "DCCI Standard"—why having a local expert who knows the dead zones in Elmore County and the heat of a Montgomery summer is worth more than any "bargain" you'll find on a national website. In this 7-minute legacy deep dive, we discuss:The 1994 Time Machine: Honoring the our roots and the evolution of the "beep."The Reliability Factor: Why "Old School" durability is the only way to survive a 2026 crisis.Fleet Freedom: How AI and GPS are protecting drivers and protecting employees. The Heritage Advantage: Why being a neighbor matters more than being a serial number.Don't let your fleet get stuck in the past while your competitors move into the future. Episode Title: Beyond the Signal: Why ‘Taking Time' is the Ultimate ConnectionDescription: Just because you have a five-bar signal doesn't mean you have a relationship. In the world of family business, it is easy to confuse being "connected" with actually being in sync.In this Mid-Week Check-in, Chris Black moves beyond the tech to talk about the heartbeat of the FamBoss Frequency: the people on the other end of the mic. At DCCI, communication is the product, but at home, it's the lifeblood. Chris dives into the "Always On" trap that many entrepreneurs fall into—where the phone becomes a tether that tells your family they come second to a client.Using a powerful radio analogy, Chris explains how many families "mash the PTT button" at the same time, creating nothing but static at the dinner table. If you want a family legacy that lasts as long as your business, you have to treat "taking time" as a maintenance requirement, not a luxury. In this 7-minute deep dive, we discuss:The Five-Bar Fallacy: Why technical connectivity doesn't equal emotional connection.Maintenance for the Marriage: Why your relationship needs a pit stop more often than your service trucks. The Radio Reality: Learning when to stop talking and start receiving the "Home Frequency."Protecting the Perimeter: How the Black family creates a "Home Zone" to keep business stress from ruining the peace.Don't let your business connection ruin your family connection. The Feeling Fallacy: Why Your Business Doesn't Care How You Feel"I'll do it when I feel like it." It's a phrase that kills more businesses than a bad economy ever could. In this Monday Morning Motor segment, Chris Black tackles the dangerous trap of waiting for "inspiration" to strike. We live in a world obsessed with finding passion, but if you're waiting to feel inspired before you fix a broken repeater or balance the books, you're already behind.Chris looks back at the pivotal moment in October 2024 when he signed the papers to take over Darden Communications Consultants INC (DCCI). That wasn't a "feel-good" contract; it was a commitment to a 30-year legacy and his family's future. Whether the coffee has kicked in or the fleet is down in the Alabama rain, the FamBoss standard demands discipline over mood.In this 7-minute kickstart, we discuss:The Coffee Test: Separating the pros from the amateurs when motivation is at zero. The Legacy Check: Why your 70-year-old self will thank you for the work you do today. The 5-Minute Rule: A practical hack to beat the "blues" and get moving.Leading by Example: Why your kids need to see you bossing your emotions, not the other way around.Stop waiting for the vibe and start laying the bricks. Legacy isn't built on feelings; it's built on discipline.
“I probably brought a bazooka to a knife fight with this equipment, but the message is what matters.”After a four-year hiatus, Chris Black is back behind the mic, but things look a little different than they did in 2022. The kids are driving, the "side hustle" is now a premier Alabama business, and the Chris Black Podcast has officially transformed into The FamBoss Frequency. In this Season 2 premiere, Chris pulls back the curtain on his transition from a salesman to the owner of DCCI in Wetumpka, Alabama. Send us a textDr. Christopher S. Black is a returning guest on our show! Be sure to check out his appearances on episode 426 and episode 454 of Boundless Body Radio!Christopher S. Black, DC, aka DocBlack and The Chiropractic Carnivore, is a chiropractor, speaker, and advocate for ancestral health. DocBlack's passion for natural healing began early, fueled by his own life-changing health transformation through chiropractic care. That experience set him on a lifelong mission to help others achieve alignment-in body, mind, and purpose. For nearly three decades of clinical practice, DocBlack realized that the healing power unlocked by a chiropractic adjustment- the removal of neurological interference- had limits when the body was poisoned and poorly fueled by the modern diet. This epiphany led him to explore and ultimately adopt the carnivore lifestyle, finding that when structural alignment and pure, nutrient-dense, ancestral foods are combined, the body's capacity to heal becomes virtually limitless. He is the author of his recent book Your Aligned Life: Where Healing Is Natural, Energy Is Abundant, and Freedom Is Your FoundationFind Dr. Christopher S. Cease Fire (Star Trek: Enterprise, S2 E15) was recommended by nazzy (she/her), who said: For being a founding member of the Federation, the Andorians have gotten seriously short shrift over the years by various Trek series. Enterprise made that up to us, giving us more Andorians per capita than any Trek before or since! And best of all, it gave us Shran, quite possibly Jeffrey Combs's best role in a career full of them. And Cease Fire is a great showcase for the Andorians, and for Shran. We learn more about the long, ugly war between Andoria and Vulcan, and how that conflict has poisoned perceptions on both sides, leaving humans (in the form of Jonathan Archer) as possibly the only group capable of bridging the gap. And for a delightful bonus, we get the wonderful Gary Graham in fine form as Ambassador Soval, whose Vulcan reserve can't hide the fact he doesn't think Archer can hack it either.Cease Fire first aired on February 12, 2003, written by Chris Black, and directed by David StraitonCaptain Archer negotiates a cease fire between the Andorians and the Vulcans. The Joy of Trek is hosted by Khaki & Kay, with editing & production by Chief Engineer Greg and music by Fox Amoore (Bandcamp | Bluesky)Send us your recommendations, or support us on Patreon.Find us at joyoftrek.com · Twitter · Facebook

Oops! It's been a while. Between Madeira's recovery, the 40+ hours it took to get home from Madeira Island, working the Magoon ranch on the Big Island, and traveling to Jackson Hole, Wyoming, for Satisfy, we just haven't had time to record a podcast. Never fear; we are back! In this episode, we deep dive into the six days I spent with the Satisfy team, Carson's experience in Jackson Hole and his emergency evac of the mountain, our workouts of the week, an upcoming Indonesia surf trip, and hacking the Instagram algorithm. We also spend a moment giving thanks to my late athlete and friend, Danny Hartman, who died tragically and suddenly a few months ago. I wanted to give his family and community time to grieve, and I wasn't sure if I should say anything. But letting his death, and more importantly, his life, go unacknowledged has felt like hiding. So here's to Danny, a man whose impact reached far beyond his immediate circle and an athlete I was so lucky to get to know. He is missed by me, the Beast Coast running community, and everyone fortunate enough to interact with him along the way. Learn more about Danny in Vermont 100's Remembrance or read his obituary here. In This Episode This week, we bring you Part III of exclusive insights from Fintech Xchange '25 at the Stena Center for Financial Technology and the University of Utah, powered by U.S. Bank. Host Jason Henrichs engages in a dynamic discussion with Jason Mikula of Fintech Business Weekly and Chris Black, CEO & President of Thread Bank. Their conversation spans topics from Banking-as-a-Service (BaaS) and regulatory shifts under the new administration to the dual-edged nature of innovation in today's financial landscape. Chris delves into Thread Bank's unique transformation as it evolved from the historic Civis Bank—established in 1906—into a fintech-enabled community bank. In 2021, new leadership recapitalized and revitalized the institution by adopting an industrial approach to BaaS and launching Thread. Thread's goal is to deliver the unparalleled value of a community bank to individuals and businesses, leveraging intuitive technology to meet customers where they are. Maintaining two local branches, Thread is delivering on its mission of embedded banking -- deposits, loans, and payments, and exemplifies the integration of traditional banking services with modern embedded banking solutions. By transcending geographical limitations and focusing on scalable, durable models, Thread collaborates with partners to manage risks and capitalize on the strengths of partnership banking. In the second segment, University of Utah alumnus Rhett Roberts, CEO & Co-founder of LoanPro, joins "the Jasons" to discuss the evolving fintech ecosystem and APIs. Are they coming of age? Naturally they talk about cores, and how banks are in the process of conscious decoupling to build resilient infrastructures in order to weather future disruptions. Rhett shares LoanPro's journey from inception to powering some of the biggest lenders in fintech. LoanPro offers a scalable, API-first lending and credit platform that fosters innovation by streamlining origination, servicing, collections, and payments across various loan types, lines of credit, and credit cards. This narrative underscores the transformative impact of fintech solutions in modernizing financial services. Listen and watch to explore these compelling stories!
On this week's show, Dana and Stephen are joined by Supreme Friend of the Podcast (SFOP) Isaac Butler, author of The Method: How the Twentieth Century Learned to Act. The trio first explores The Wild Robot, DreamWork Animation's handcrafted, lovingly made film that's the surprise of the year.
