Will the distinctive taste of kefir win over Sue and Ollie or will it get their goat? Ollie is back from his recent jaunt to Indonesia and he's full of tales about the country's amazing foodie offerings. If anyone knows of a great Indonesian restaurant in London, do let us know… What is a microbiome? What damages it and what can we do to reverse that damage? How can you tell if a goat is happy? These critical questions and more are put to gut health expert Shann Jones of Chuckling Goat, the UK's number one producer of kefir. She's brought some of the company's products to try and it's safe to say that Sue's reaction won't disappoint. But you'll have to tune in to see whether Shann can convert Sue and Ollie to kefir by the end of the show. After discussing the admirable attributes of goats, the team turn to investments – specifically, what to do with that spare £100,000 they've got lying around. Sue wants to know which areas of food tech are on investors' radars right now if they want to stand a chance of good returns in the future. Luckily, food entrepreneur and business growth advisor Rekha Mehr has popped into the studio to offer her expertise on the food trends of today and tomorrow.

Have you ever thought on how other chemicals enter our body? In this week’s Insight, I talk about the negative impact these strong chemicals and what you can do about it. Visit https://www.bodyshotperformance.com/podcasts-blog for the complete show notes of every podcast episode. Topics Discussed in this Episode: The effect of harmful household cleaning products How harmful chemicals in personal care products enter our body Key Takeaways: You don’t to kill all the bacteria. It’s good for our microbiome. It’s good for us to built up immunity using these things. So that, we aren’t too clean. They are full chemicals and that can cause problems with our hormones. A lot of these household products will come and close contact with your skin, if you use bleach on the floors and you walk on the floors, your feet will be absorbing some of that bleach. And they clean, but they also take out everything else. And they have a significant amount of collateral damage in terms of the fumes you inhaling. The largest organ of the body porous, so it absorbs very very easily. An implication to some of these is it can affect your hormones. It can affect the hormones in a number of different ways, and in every estrogen could be affected by certain products. Other hormones can be affected that can significantly impact our health. A few study in recent years, theories that aluminum based deodorants could increase the risk of breast cancer. That study suggested that chemicals in these deodorants, including aluminum, absorbing the skin and can have this effect. Action Steps: Slowly reduce the the use of chemical household cleaning products. Look for more natural products. Start small, reduce exposing your body to chemicals. Get to know more familiar on what these products do and what’s with in them. Leanne said: “This week, I just want to highlight and to create an awareness of what you put on your skin. And then, the chemicals and other such thing that are sprayed, wiped or used in home, because that also has benefit. Then you more likely to breathe them in, as well as absorbing them through the skin.” “So pay attention to all the different ways to come and contact with these chemicals, and try to reduce that chemical footprint if you like in your body.” Thanks for listening! The Arctic Circle Race just might be the next extreme adventure you’re looking for! Visit https://www.bodyshotperformance.com/podcasts-blog for the complete show notes of every podcast episode. Topics Discussed in this Episode: The Arctic Circle Race and why we did it How we prepared for the race My thoughts on the journey What the experience was like Key Takeaways: Both mental and physical endurance are very much needed to take on this kind of challenge. Incredibly powerful things happen when you push yourself into your discomfort zone. You don’t have to go as big as we’ve gone with The Arctic Circle Race, it might be learning an instrument, going online dating, learning a new language, or playing a sport. Taking on a challenge and achieving something is good for your confidence and your resilience. You get a bit more comfortable in very uncomfortable situations. You feel a little more comfortable with unpredictability, and life is unpredictable. A key part of resilience is not your toughness. It’s not what you can endure. It’s more around if you have the tools to cope with the various things that life throws at you and the emotional bandwidth to deal with them. Action Steps: If you are doing a fundraising event, set a really big target and don’t be afraid to ask people to support you. Do something that takes you into your discomfort zone. Have a think about what that thing might be and make sure it’s the appropriate level of challenge at the appropriate time. Leanne said: “[The Arctic Circle Race] is absolutely brutal. It’s the most extraordinary challenge. It’s more like the world’s toughest herring boning and walking race with bits of skiing.” “If you feel that life is pretty smooth and you want to test yourself in some way, then start to look at what you can do. Tim Gray - Entrepreneur & Health Optimization Expert Our guest this week is Tim Gray. Tim is a seriously interesting person and deeply committed biohacker/health optimization expert. As you’ll learn, Tim and T.A. met by happenstance at Baby Bathwater—an entrepreneurial event hosted in Croatia—where they quickly realized their shared enthusiasm for science, technology, and longevity. Tim’s approach to health optimization stems from his passion and commitment to everything he does; what Tim calls his “all-in or nothing” mentality. As an entrepreneur, Tim is a specialist in psychology, neuro marketing, cognitive hypnotherapy, conversion rate optimization and SEO. His expertise in digital marketing is rooted in his own experiences as the founder of a very successful e-commerce business, and over 13 years experience of search engine marketing and psychology. He has a keen interest in body language and human behavior led him to study and gain various Oxford University recognized qualifications, including a Diploma in Cognitive Hypnotherapy (HPD), a Master Practitioner certification in NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) and NVQ in Business Management. His growing interest in optimal health, having a sharp and clear mind (and “biohacking”) has also led him to open the first Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy clinic in London. In this episode of How to Live to 200, T.A. explores some really interesting and less popular areas with Tim. We ask and answer questions on biohacking, mercury poisoning, gut bacteria, and more. Here’s a sample of what we cover: How Tim used the Ketogenic diet and Bulletproof Coffee to kickstart his journey to biohacking and health optimization Why Tim doesn’t like the term “biohacker” What symptoms allow him to easily detect mercury toxicity in strangers What tests Tim recommends to measure your mercury levels What foods to avoid if you’re worried about mercury toxicity What farm-raised salmon can do to your body and brain Should you have your old fillings removed? Tim’s personal gut microbiome optimization techniques What Tim data currently tracks and how he decides what to pay attention to How you can use Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy to thrive How do you learn to enjoy your current moment while still striving for improved health There’s so much great info packed into this episode, so don’t be surprised if you need to take a second listen to capture all of Tim’s knowledge. Are you ready for another dose of helpful information about what goat milk kefir can do for you and your health? In part 2 of my interview with Shann Nix Jones, the owner of Chuckling Goat, we talk more about IBS, depression, and anxiety, and the possible natural remedies for those conditions. Visit https://www.bodyshotperformance.com/podcasts-blog for the complete show notes of every podcast episode. Topics Discussed in this Episode: The effects of dopamine versus serotonin The 4 Cs that you can do to get serotonin Why you need tryptophan and where you can find it The problem with taking anti-depressant drugs or SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) The causes and symptoms of IBS How goat milk kefir can help with IBS Key Takeaways: You can either experience pleasure or you can be happy but you can’t be both. Biochemically, the experience of pleasure and the experience of happiness are two different things. The experience of pleasure is something that you get from the reward circuit or the dopamine circuit in your brain. The problem with dopamine is that it is a neurotoxic chemical that damages the receptor on the other end over time. Eventually, that receptor cell will die, and at that point, you have a full-blown addiction. Serotonin, on the other hand, creates that calm, zen-like feeling of happiness that is actually sustainable. You can reduce the amount of dopamine and increase the amount of serotonin by making good food choices. Medical doctors don’t have a solution for IBS because it’s about your gut bugs. But the science is in, and there is an answer, there is a solution. Action Steps: Make that switch in your lifestyle and concentrate on serotonin activities and serotonin food. Try the natural remedies first before you take any chemicals in your body. Get outside. The fastest thing you can do to make yourself feel better is taking a 15-minute walk outside. Boost your immune system by getting under the trees and inhaling the phytochemicals coming off the trees. Interact with nature by growing plants. Look at your personal care products and your household cleaning products and see how you can make them more natural. Shann said: “It is an incredibly serious thing to block your body from absorbing serotonin because it is not just your brain that absorbs serotonin, it is your entire body, every single organ… You block that, you increase your risk of death by 33%.” “They have now shown that it is a disruption in your gut bugs that actually cause IBS... It is dysbiosis. Whether or not your doctor knows it’s dysbiosis, if they don’t know it, then they haven’t done their reading. The science is out there. You tell them to go and catch up.” Thanks for listening! Are you looking for a natural remedy for IBS, depression, and anxiety? Look no further! Chuckling Goat owner Shann Nix Jones is back in the podcast and this time she talks all about gut health and the wonders that goat milk kefir could do for IBS, depression, and anxiety. Visit https://www.bodyshotperformance.com/podcasts-blog for the complete show notes of every podcast episode. Topics Discussed in this Episode: Gut health and the gut-brain connection Shann’s Yellowstone Park analogy of the gut The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse or the four things that cause damage to our guts The benefits of ashwagandha Key Takeaways: Natural healing is a bumpy up-and-down road. It’s not always straightforward. It can be one step forward, two steps back. Natural healing is not like suppressing a symptom with a chemical, which can happen instantly and which is temporary. Your gut and your brain are connected. They all work together because of something called serotonin inside your system. If you have IBS, chances are excellent that you will develop anxiety and depression within the year. And if you have anxiety and/or depression, chances are also excellent that you will develop IBS within the year. Action Steps: Drink kefir and rewild your gut. Sign up for a vegetable delivery service, preferably one that comes straight from the farm where they just pull up what’s good to go. Take the challenge of eating 50 different foods in a week. Take collagen every day, and take ashwagandha. If you drink coffee, take your coffee a few hours after you wake up rather than right off the bat. Get rid of household products containing triclosan. Shann said: “To resolve your IBS will also resolve anxiety and depression. And you can enter that loop at any point… It’s obviously easier to treat your gut than it is to treat your brain, but all of those issues resolve together.” “Modern life is just ironing us out. And it’s sort of getting rid of all the biodiversity in our systems. The health of an ecosystem is tested and measured by the number of links between the organisms in it. That’s the health of an organism. It’s complex.” Thanks for listening! Last year I wrote a blog called How to get through the December and the Christmas season without gaining weight, which was one of our most popular blogs of the year, so I thought I’d turn it into a podcast recording and get it out to you. In this episode I offer you 10 ways to avoid gaining weight during the Christmas season and give you several tips and tricks for getting through it without feeling like you need a holiday at the end of it all. I cover exercise, fitness, food, alcohol, water and much more. Follow my advice and you shouldn’t gain a pound but still be able to enjoy yourself. If you’re already a member of our private Facebook group The Green Room (link below), you can ask your questions there or send an email to info@bodyshotperformance.com and I’ll get back to you. Remove the Guesswork: Health, Fitness and Wellbeing for Busy Professionals
A few weeks ago I drove across to West Wales to meet Shann Nix Jones. Shann tells the story of how she left her job as a talk show host in the US with over 1m listeners a night to move to Wales with her then husband. That relationship didn’t work out, and Shann found herself alone with her two children in a small Welsh village wondering what to do next. She met Rich, a neighbouring farmer, and together they now run a thriving business called Chuckling Goat, providing goat milk skincare products and goat milk kefir. The benefits of these products have been proven to help with asthma, eczema, IBS and IBD, bronchial infections and gut health issues. This was a really fun interview, and Shann’s knowledge of gut health and the benefits kefir can bring are eye-opening. Links to the products can be found below – enjoy!
