Cleaning can feel satisfying, but did you know many household products might actually harm your health? A 2021 Which? study revealed that nearly half of common UK cleaning products contain potentially dangerous chemicals. Even those labeled “eco-friendly” or “for sensitive skin” aren't always safe. Preservatives like Methylisothiazolinone and Benzisothiazolinone are known to cause allergic reactions, while others may disrupt hormones or affect reproductive health. And then there's bleach—a go-to for many households, but a major contributor to indoor air pollution and respiratory problems. So how can you clean safely without risking your well-being or the environment? Or my health ? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions! In the world we live in today it feels like we are being bombarded by more and more chemicals in our food, cosmetics and various household items. As if eating healthy is not hard enough already, now add the challenge of reviewing the chemical impact of the items you use as you get ready each day or as you cook and clean your home. The goal of this episode is to not overwhelm but provide some starter level education on the potential chemical burden of some of your common daily products and allow you to slowly take charge and control over your chemical environment.80,000 chemicals have been produced and are circulating on this earth yet only 20,000 have been tested by various agencies. Of those, many have been allowed to be found years later posing significant health risks.Autoimmune and cancer rates have been increasing at an alarming rate over the past few decades and we have to consider all potential causes and the chemicals we are exposed to on a daily basis need to be considered as a contributing factor. If you are looking for starting points to clean up your routine, EWG Health Living has an app that can be used to scan the bar codes of various products. Although not perfect, this app helps identify some of the worst offenders you may be using and it is free to use.We hope you enjoy our episode on environmental toxins, their potential impact on our health and starting steps to make meaningful changes.Yours in health,Health, Wealth and the UltimateSelf Team!

Healthy Alternatives to Toxic Household Products Today's episode is a continuation of last week's on toxicity in our daily lives. With spring cleaning upon us, it's important to note that cleaning up our homes can also mean cleaning up our health, and we're here to give you some tips on how to do just that. Learn what household products could be causing harm to your body & what healthy alternatives we suggest in order to avoid the damage of toxins. First up let's talk about water. Tap water has been found to contain a plethora of toxic chemicals including arsenic, and lead just to name a few. Not only can this be harmful when you're drinking water, but also when you're taking a shower, brushing your teeth, etc. The easiest thing you can do to avoid toxic tap water is to get some sort of filtration system whether it's individually on your shower head, sink, or through your entire house with a whole-house filtration system. Another toxic household item you may want to consider switching is your cleaning products. Ashley Berlin explains that what you're spraying on your kitchen counters matter because if your kids drop food on the table and eat it, they may be consuming remnants of the toxic cleaner that was previously used there. There are plenty of clean brands nowadays that make non-toxic cleaners such as Branch Basics, but if you're looking for a cheaper option check out our article to see how you can make your own at home! Be sure to listen to the full episode to hear Dr. Ryan & Ashley's recommendations for non-toxic cookware, makeup, and more! And be sure to reach out to your local MaxLiving office for details on how you can attend their Terminate Toxins event in just a few weeks. *Please note: the information shared on this podcast are the opinions/views of the hosts. Keto flu symptoms aren't hard to miss. Headache, fatigue, nausea... are these keto flu symptoms easily fixed? Yes! Use these household products to stop symptoms of the so-called "keto flu" (dehydration). Help is here! Symptoms of the “KETO FLU” Is the keto flu a real thing? Or are you just having sugar withdrawal? New Keto dieters often experience an “adjustment” period. Dieters might complain about one or more of the following real keto flu symptoms: TIRED Dizziness or shakiness headache Leg cramps or other muscles cramps, especially at night Constipation or a feeling of uncomfortable bloating Heart palpitations or racing heart Nausea or vomiting Are these symptoms some kind of hazing for keto? Actually not.  This isn't college! There is a difference between “detoxing” from eating excessive carbs (sugar withdrawal) and suffering from symptoms of electrolyte imbalance. It's normal to feel sad (or even angry!) about missing those beloved carbs that comforted you for so long. You might even get a low carb headache! It's NOT normal, however, to feel metabolic health problems like those listed above. By maintaining balanced electrolytes, you will prevent and relieve yourself of “keto flu” symptoms. How is this done? First, you must increase your water intake to ensure proper hydration. Next, increase the amounts of daily electrolytes in your diet. Electrolyte Supplements Ideas: Bone broth (exactly what it sounds like – the broth from boiling bones) Drink pickle juice - really! Consuming commercially purchased sugar-free drinks that include electrolytes Eat foods rich in potassium (nuts, salmon, avocados, leafy green veggies, and mushrooms) Eat foods rich in calcium (dairy foods like yogurt or cheese, leafy green vegetables, broccoli, fish, almond or coconut milk, canned salmon, shrimp, and peanuts) Supplementation of electrolytes via tablets (under the advisement of your doctor) Keto Flu Symptoms - Something to Avoid? The bottom line is that you don't have to suffer from low carb flu symptoms. “Keto Flu” can be avoided and prevented. Take preventative actions to ensure your body is cared for. Don't let this be your excuse to quit. Stephanie Laska is the USA Today bestselling author of the DIRTY, LAZY, KETO books with over 10,000 positive reviews on Amazon and Goodreads. I also like their fabric softener. I love many of their non-toxic beauty offerings from so many great brands you will be familiar with: http://grove.pxf.io/P04YWq   They have some great choices in facewashes and lotions.  Easy to make those swaps.  Simple changes and better choices is my mantra here at The Güüd Company – and this is a great way for you start. PLEASE REMEMBER:  you still need to check products for yourself using the EWG Healthy Living App.  You can either scan the barcode of a product or enter the name, and you will see a report giving it a grade from an A to an F and listing any toxic ingredients that you should know about. I encourage you to start somewhere today. Perhaps under your kitchen sink, your laundry room, or in your very own bathroom. Scan your products and make a list of the products that get D's or F's. Then armed with your mobile app head to Grove Collaborative and find better products. While I am not affiliated with many brands I just started working with Grove Collaborative and this post contains affiliate links and I will be compensated if you make a purchase after clicking on my links.

When Jeff Lovett and his wife moved from New York City to southeastern Ohio, they got back in touch with small-town living. It was the early 2000s, and the DIY movement was in full swing. The Lovetts experimented with things like home brewing and soapmaking, among many other endeavors. Whenever they shared their soaps and lotions with people, they received overwhelmingly positive feedback. People loved the fact that the products actually worked, and that they were comprised of simple, clean ingredients that they could trust. The Lovetts realized they were onto something, and even though they had no prior business experience, they decided to take a leap and launch Lovett Sundries. While living in Appalachia, Jeff had been studying the history of company stores. This inspired the branding, product naming, and labeling for their concept. Sustainability was also a driving factor for them, so the Lovetts sourced materials that were recyclable and reusable for their packaging. In this episode, Jeff talks about some of the funnier moments when they were finding their way in the very beginning. Ultimately, it was a trade show back in New York City that helped them to refine their product offerings and build some important relationships in the industry. Today, the Lovetts make all of their products in their studio located in the Wilkinsburg neighborhood, and they also operate a small retail space in the front of the building. If you have any questions or if you’d like to chat, you can reach me at my contact info below. Have you ever thought on how other chemicals enter our body? In this week’s Insight, I talk about the negative impact these strong chemicals and what you can do about it. Visit https://www.bodyshotperformance.com/podcasts-blog for the complete show notes of every podcast episode. Topics Discussed in this Episode: The effect of harmful household cleaning products How harmful chemicals in personal care products enter our body Key Takeaways: You don’t to kill all the bacteria. It’s good for our microbiome. It’s good for us to built up immunity using these things. So that, we aren’t too clean. They are full chemicals and that can cause problems with our hormones. A lot of these household products will come and close contact with your skin, if you use bleach on the floors and you walk on the floors, your feet will be absorbing some of that bleach. And they clean, but they also take out everything else. And they have a significant amount of collateral damage in terms of the fumes you inhaling. The largest organ of the body porous, so it absorbs very very easily. An implication to some of these is it can affect your hormones. It can affect the hormones in a number of different ways, and in every estrogen could be affected by certain products. Other hormones can be affected that can significantly impact our health. A few study in recent years, theories that aluminum based deodorants could increase the risk of breast cancer. That study suggested that chemicals in these deodorants, including aluminum, absorbing the skin and can have this effect. Action Steps: Slowly reduce the the use of chemical household cleaning products. Look for more natural products. Start small, reduce exposing your body to chemicals. Get to know more familiar on what these products do and what’s with in them. Leanne said: “This week, I just want to highlight and to create an awareness of what you put on your skin. And then, the chemicals and other such thing that are sprayed, wiped or used in home, because that also has benefit. Then you more likely to breathe them in, as well as absorbing them through the skin.” “So pay attention to all the different ways to come and contact with these chemicals, and try to reduce that chemical footprint if you like in your body.” Thanks for listening!
