Biermann, Ulrich www.deutschlandfunk.de, Kalenderblatt

Edgar Bergen and his wooden dummies Charlie McCarthy and Mortimer Snerd, though predominantly radio stars, briefly appeared in the Walt Disney film "Fun and Fancy Free.” This episode of the Bergen show will be a treat for Disneyphiles. Walt himself makes a rare guest appearance to promote the film, as well as Donald Duck (played by Clarence Nash), who joins the cast for a parody of the Jack and the Beanstalk segment. Tony Anselmo's face may not be familiar, but the whole world knows his voice—that is, when he speaks as his alter ego, Donald Duck! Tony inherited this unique job from its creator, Clarence Nash, and he feels very protective of the famously furious mallard. He is also a graduate of Cal Arts and has been an animator at the Walt Disney studio since 1980. Leonard and Jessie are longtime fans and friends, as they share a love of all things Disney.

March 7, 1943 - George Burns and Gracie Allen Sub For Jack. With Jack Benny sick Don Wilson calls of Jack Benny's personal friends George and Gracie, along with thier cast Bill Goodwin, Herman the duck (Clarence Nash), Tootsie Stagwell (Elvia Allman) and Paul Whitman and his orchestra. References include Mayor La Guardia, Walter Pidgeon, Artie Shaw and Toscanini. Listen after the program for a clip from The Burns and Allen Show "Concerto For Index Finger" where Gracie plays Carnegie Hall.
Time to lighten up the podcast with probably the most famous duck of all time. Voice impressions by Clarence Nash made an impression on Walt Disney that resulted in Nash voicing Donald Duck in cartoons and films for 51 years. He became a regular performer on TV commercials and USO bond rallies. Clarence even voiced the duck in foreign languages. He also played Gracie's pet duck, Herman, on the Burns and Allen Show. His voice was heard in the films “Pinocchio,” “Bambi” and “101 Dalmatians.” His final performance was “Mickey's Christmas Carol.” Of course we'll put him to work in this podcast, including an unusual singing bit.
MICKEY MOUSE THEATRE ON THE AIR! 1938 “Snow White Day” Radio Show! November 18th marks the birthdays of Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse! November 18th was chosen as the anniversary date (by the late Disney historian and archivist Dave Smith) as that's the date that “Steamboat Willie” (by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks) was released. It's the first “talkie” Mickey Mouse cartoon from the Disney Brothers. But Minnie and Mickie made their actual screen debut in “Plane Crazy” on 15 May, 1928. After the success of the sound “Steamboat Willie”, “Plane Crazy” was scored and vocal and sound effects were added, and the short was re-released in 1929! And the first voice of Mickey Mouse in the films? Walt Disney! I always wondered why Mickey didn't have his own radio show. He, and all the characters created by Disney and voiced by such wonderful voice talents would have been a natural. Particularly as music was so important to all of Disney's films, and rapid fire dialogue, character voices, and verbal humor was king in the movies and radio of the 1930s, 40s and 50s. But Mickey and his friends were on the radio in the late 1930s. Perhaps radio, and Walt being primarily a visual storyteller, was just too much for the growing studio after they released their feature animated cartoon, “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs”. Of course broadcasters we after Disney to do radio, and when the opportunity to help promote Snow White presented itself, Disney leapt at it, and put his all into it, like he did with everything. Mickey Mouse Theatre On the Air was a short lived variety radio program that debuted on NBC in January, 1938. Remarkably well produced and performed, it moves swiftly and packs the short program with great familiar characters and songs. It's a shame that Mickey Mouse Theater on the Air only lasted until May of 1938, with only about 20 shows produced, broadcast every Sunday afternoon. There are so many wonderful possibilities for Mickey and friends on the radio…it could have been somewhat groundbreaking had it been given the chance, much like The Muppet Show was when it debuted on television in the 1970s… Here's the second show, “Snow White Day”, originally broadcast on January 9th, 1938. With The Felix Mills Orchestra. Spike Jones conducting Donald Duck's Swing Band. Clarence Nash as Donald Duck, Thelma Boardman as Minnie Mouse, Stuart Buchanan as Goofy, and the announcer is Joe Hiestand. Walt Disney appears as himself, and as Mickey Mouse! Mom and Isaac conclude their discussion of Disney's Golden Era with some controversial takes on the gorgeous, esoteric Bambi. Listen as we discuss the differences between film and book, gush over the incredible hand-painted backgrounds of Tyrus Wong, express disdain for Thumper, and attempt a series of ill-advised Donald Duck impersonations in honor of Clarence Nash. http://www.attractionchecklist.com - Mickey's PhilharMagic has made its way into Disney California Adventure. Will it receive a standing ovation? Grant reviews it in this episode! Recorded on May 13, 2019. TRANSCRIPT: Welcome to Attraction Checklist. This episode we check out the latest show offering at Disney California Adventure, Mickey’s PhilharMagic! Located in Hollywood Land in Disney California Adventure Park, Mickey’s PhilharMagic is described on the Disneyland Resort website by saying: Immerse yourself in the wonder of Disney animation and music when you experience this 12-minute, 3D movie starring Donald Duck. There are no age or height requirements for this attraction. Before we don our opera glasses, here are five fast facts about Mickey’s PhilharMagic. 1. Mickey’s PhilharMagic opened at Disney California Adventure on April 26, 2019. 2. The first iteration of Mickey’s PhilharMagic opened at Walt Disney World in October of 2003 in a specially built theater. Because the former MuppetVision 3D theater in California Adventure is smaller, a smaller version of the film is used. This is similar to the version that opened in Disneyland Paris in 2018. 3. The attraction is the second collaboration between Walt Disney Imagineering and Walt Disney Animation Studios, the first being the nighttime spectacular Fantastic! 4. Most of Donald Duck’s dialogue used in the film is archival recordings of Donald’s original voice actor, Clarence Nash. 5. The Little Mermaid animator, Glen Keane returned to render Ariel in 3D for the attraction and Beauty and the Beast animator Nik Ranieri returned to animate Lumiere. Now let’s check out Mickey’s PhilharMagic! After the performance, I’ll share my thoughts with you on this attraction and this is recorded in binaural audio so you’ll want to put on your headphones! Here is Mickey’s PhilharMagic at Disney California Adventure! The attraction audio recorded for this episode is available exclusively to the Saturday Morning Media Patron Patron. The Disney Family Album was an original documentary series produced by The Disney Channel in the mid 1980’s. Episodes aired from June 1984 until January 1986 with each episode running about 30 minutes. They were produced by Michael Bonifer along with Carden Walker, the son of Card Walker (The third Disney Company leader after Walt and Roy Disney). The series lasted just 20 episodes and was designed to take a look at the artist and performance that shaped Disney Studios and Disney Parks, most of whom worked directly with Walt. The people featured created some of the most iconic Disney characters, movies and attractions ever developed. Narrated by Buddy Ebsen, the series is a true history lesson and provides the perfect time capsule with incredible insight and behind the scenes stories. In the greater scheme of things, the timing of these 20 episodes was perfect; any earlier or later in Disney History, and they may not have happened. Of the 20 episodes produced, 7 showcased one of Walt’s Nine Old Men: Marc Davis, Frank Thomas, Ollie Johnston, Eric Larson, Wolfgang (or Woolie) Rytherman, Milt Kahl and Ward Kimball – all featuring stories directly from them! Only Les Clark and John Lounsbery, who both passed away in the 1970’s, are missing from Walt’s Nine Old Men. Other episodes featured Disney Legends like The Sherman Brothers, Ken Anderson, Annette Funicello, and Jim Macdonald to name just a few. One episode focused on Voice Actors, while another Disneyland Designers and WED Imagineers including interviews with Herb Ryman, Bill Evans, John Hench, and a very young Tony Baxter. Disney Family Album was produced by MICA. The master tapes were given to Disney sometime after the series was cancelled in 1986. Most of the original footage was lost in the Disney tape vault, which was not digitized. While some has been found, most of the original footage and the finished first episode, “Clarence Ducky Nash”, was not found. The remainder of the episodes come from Disney Vault replays captured on VHS in the 1990’s. The Clarence Nash episode was not replayed in the 1990’s. Brian McEntee and John Lasseter are credited with the “Title Design”, which of course, was computer generated; the timing is very interesting. Shortly after the production of the title design in early 1984, John was fired from Disney for promoting computer animation making this title design one of his last Disney credits. Of course, he joined Lucasfilms Computer Graphic Group which was later sold to Steve Jobs and became Pixar in 1986 – we all know the story from there. For this episode of SamsDisneyDiary, I’m highlighting the second episode in the series, Ward Kimball. From a tour of Ward’s full size train in his backyard, stories of vacationing with Walt, reminiscing about the Firehouse 5 Plus 2, or his amazing toy collection, Ward covers his thoughts behind animating the Three Caballeros and the creating of Jiminy Cricket. It’s an amazing 30 minute journey into the mind of a remarkable man. Look for all 19 Episodes of The Disney Family Album at www.SamsDisneyDiary.com and www.youtube.com/samsdisneydiary
