For a child in a new culture, counseling can make the difference between adapting and embracing the new school and national culture or the whole family being miserable and coming home early - a costly mistake for employers sending their best talent overseas. Coaching and counselling are both conversation-based but not the same. Denise explains more about the role of counseling in Dubai international schools and how this dynamic city is embracing diversity at a rate that most European countries can only dream of.

Ever tell yourself you're OK when you're not? Ever get a text from a friend asking if you're OK and you reply "yeah awesome", when you're not? I did this ALL THE TIME, and this contributed to my recent 'breakdown', as you might call it. This therapy reflection outlines why this isn't good for you/us, and the path to truth and honesty, both for yourself, and for others.
I take 18 minutes to delve into a recent therapy session I had where I reflected with my therapist on why I got to feeling frustrated and over burdened, how I now want to try deal with the mental load I have as a dad, leader and husband, and how the coaches of the world need to protect themselves from taking on too many of other peoples problems. Ultimately, if you're too busy fighting and helping everyone else with their problems, you might not have the space and ability to deal with your own.
Last week I restarted therapy. Why? Find out....

An increasing number of people are experiencing a gender identity that does not wholly correlate with the gender they were assigned at birth. This has led to the field of Gender Identity in psychotherapy and new ways to support people suffering from gender dysphoria or being very unhappy with their assigned gender. This is a complicated subject that is eloquently addressed by this week's guest, Michelle Bridgman. Shelley is a psychotherapist, a professional speaker and author. She is in the process of completing her doctorate in psychotherapy and is a regular communicator on gender identity issues in the media. In this episode we discuss the 'gender spectrum' the problems that arise for some people and the role of therapy in the various areas of need that people experience in dealing with this issue. In this candid and inspirational conversation, Shelley describes how `gender is just a space suit we walk around in' and that learning to know and be who we really are is at the root of all happiness. Shelley aims to encourage well trained and talented therapists to help guide people to a place where there understand their beliefs and discover who they want to be and which expression of gender identity is right for them. Shelley hopes that people will become empowered to be who they really are and thus act as agents for change in creating a more tolerant world accepting of diversity.
