Drew Herridge with the Marshall-Putnam County Fair Board joined Ken Peel on Wake Up Tri-Counties to give an update for the 2026 Marshall-Putnam Fair. The Marshall-Putnam County Fair is celebrating 105 years with a packed schedule in Henry, running July 15th through 19th, with pageant activities beginning July 12th. Drew Herridge, Director and Chairman of Events, says the fair remains free to enter with free parking every day. Highlights include Wednesday's kickoff dinner and wine tasting, Kids Fun Day on Thursday, the demolition derby on Friday, and America's PPL pull on Saturday. The biggest draw is Thursday night's concert featuring Scotty McCreery, with Taylor Bruninga and Cody Calkins opening. Fair details and tickets are available at marshallputnamfair.org and on Facebook. Scotty McCreery has been a household name for nearly half of his life, making history in 2011 as the first country artist and the youngest male artist of any genre to debut his first studio album, the Platinum-certified *Clear as Day*, at No. 1 on the all-genre Billboard Top 200 Albums chart. The 31-year-old has sold over 4 million albums and achieved 6 No. 1 hits: the recent “Cab in a Solo,” the RIAA Platinum-certified “Damn Strait,” the RIAA Gold-certified “You Time,” the RIAA Gold-certified “In Between,” the RIAA Platinum-certified “This is It,” and the RIAA Triple Platinum-certified “Five More Minutes.” His latest album is *Rise & Fall*, and his current EP is *Scooter & Friends*, which features the smash hit “Bottle Rockets” with Hootie & The Blowfish.

That Don‘t Sound Right
What Wins a Ribbon? Judging Hay, Gourds, and Lego at the County Fair

That Don‘t Sound Right

That Don't Sound Right is a podcast about talking—the way we did before the internet, when you couldn't instantly prove anyone right or wrong and all the expertise lived in the people around the conversation. We hope you enjoy our conversations, and if you ever find yourself thinking, That Don't Sound Right, send us a comment. You're one of us. This week, Peter and Cecil take a nostalgic trip through one of America's most beloved traditions—the county fair. From prize-winning hay bales and giant gourds to elaborate LEGO creations, decorated vegetables, homemade crafts, baked goods, and collections you never knew people judged, they explore the wonderfully quirky competitions that make local fairs so memorable. Along the way, the conversation drifts into childhood memories, favorite fair exhibits, the surprising pride behind earning a blue ribbon, and the unique personalities that keep these hometown traditions alive. The hosts even share a memorable "Judge's Choice" story that proves sometimes the most unexpected entries leave the biggest impression. Why do people spend months growing the perfect pumpkin, arranging vegetables into works of art, or carefully displaying lifelong collections? Peter and Cecil celebrate the creativity, community, friendly competition, and simple joy that make county fairs a cherished part of small-town life. Whether you grew up walking the livestock barns, admiring the quilt displays, or heading straight for the funnel cakes, this episode is a fun reminder of why county fairs continue to bring generations together. Because somewhere between the giant zucchini, the prize-winning tomatoes, and the blue ribbon hay bale... you'll probably find yourself saying, That Don't Sound Right. #tdsrpodcast #ThatDontSoundRight #CountyFair #StateFair #BlueRibbon #SmallTownAmerica #Agriculture #FairSeason #Nostalgia #Community #LEGO #Homemade #CountryLife #FarmLife #Americana #LocalTraditions #FunnelCake #SmallTownStories Connect with us:

Residents are encouraged to pick up locks weekdays between 8 AM and 4 PM. Firearm suicide claims 64 American lives daily, and keeping both guns and ammunition locked can sharply reduce these risks. Free gun locks are also available via the Veterans Crisis Line—call 988 and press 1, chat at VeteransCrisisLine.net, or text 838255. For more safety news, the departments are hosting free blood pressure checks, sharps disposal, and insurance help at the Henry County Fair on June 17th and 18th.
