In this episode of How to Build a Profitable Nutrition Business, Chris Hughes sits down with Rupert Bryce, a seasoned performance psychologist who specializes in helping entrepreneurs, executives, and business owners push beyond self-limiting beliefs to reach their fullest potential. Rupert dives deep into the psychological barriers many face, such as imposter syndrome and doubt, which can prevent professionals from fully embracing their worth and charging appropriately for their services. He emphasises that while these self-imposed limitations may offer temporary comfort or safety, they also keep people from achieving their bigger goals. Drawing from his extensive experience in performance psychology, Rupert introduces the concept of understanding one's “Underberg”—the underlying beliefs, assumptions, and stories that shape our actions. Through thought-provoking questions like “Who am I now?” and “Who am I yet to become?”, he encourages listeners to reflect on past experiences and inherited narratives that may no longer serve them. By cultivating curiosity and emotional agility, Rupert explains, individuals can break free from old patterns and move towards ambitious, fulfilling goals. Chris and Rupert also discuss the value of leaning into discomfort as a pathway to growth, stressing the importance of building mental resilience just as one would train physically. This insightful episode offers actionable strategies for any nutrition professional seeking to overcome self-doubt, improve their business mindset, and elevate their practice. Tune in to discover how embracing a performance-oriented mindset can transform your career and personal growth journey.

Our beer fest tour continues...Last weekend we took our happy selves to Duluth, GA for the Les Bon Beer Festival hosted by our good friends at Good Word Brewing.Good Word always puts on a great event and this highly-curated selection of brewers and oyster farmers was no exception.  We enjoyed a variety of saisons, mixed fermentation brews, and oysters as we chatted with some of the events participants. We always love to learn more about things we don't know about.  Ed Mera of Mera Brothers Oysters joins us to drop some general knowledge on oysters, the impact of hurricanes on oysters, green gills, and merroir.Averie Swanson from Keeping Together tells us about her brewery and the journey from Texas, to Chicago, to New Mexico while educating us all on mixed culture beers.  We get a shot of Underberg to keep our digestion in check, and discuss the wonders of Malort. There are a few people we know well and always have good conversations with.  Orpheus Brewing's Jason Pellett is one of those people.  Jason's been on the show a handful of times over the years and was one of first guests wayyy back in 2016.  Jason recently closed his taproom in Atlanta and is in the process of moving to Amsterdam where he'll open a much smaller brewery, The Hollows, thanks in part to more friendly brewing laws.  We talk with Jason about these changes, the "protections" of the three-tier system, and why everything is so damn expensive these days.  FYI... even though the taproom is closed you can still find Orpheus beers at retail and on draft thanks to their partnership with Bevana. Thanks for listening to Beer Guys Radio! The Root Cause Medicine Podcast is created by Rupa Health, the best way to order, track & manage results from 30+ lab companies in one place for free. The Root Cause Medicine Podcast is a weekly one-on-one conversation with renowned medical experts, specialists, and pioneers who are influencing the way we look at our health and wellbeing. This week we're joined by Dr. Natalie Underberg, CEO of The PCOS Doc. In this episode, Dr. Natalie Underberg shares the causes, strategies, and lifestyle changes necessary to effectively manage Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). As a seasoned researcher with over a decade of experience studying PCOS, Dr. Natalie is a distinguished expert in her field. In addition to earning her doctoral degree, she has devoted countless hours to advanced functional medicine training through the Institute of Functional Medicine and Apex Energetics, as well as intensive coursework in internal disorders through the American Board of Chiropractic Internists. Dr. Natalie was personally diagnosed with PCOS in 2010, and has since been dedicated to educating, empowering, and advocating for women who also grapple with this complex condition. Alongside her work helping women with PCOS, Dr. Natalie specializes in assisting women with infertility and other hormone-related issues from a holistic perspective. Key Takeaways: What is PCOS? PCOS, which stands for Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, is a hormonal disorder that affects women of reproductive age. Women with PCOS have imbalanced levels of hormones, such as higher levels of androgens and insulin, which can cause a range of symptoms, including irregular menstrual cycles, fatigue, acne, excessive hair growth, weight gain, and even difficulty getting pregnant. Dr. Natalie states that one in seven women are now dealing with PCOS. Challenges of PCOS diagnosis and management When it comes to a PCOS diagnosis, thorough investigations are not being done. There's also a misconception that you need a cyst on your ovaries to qualify for a PCOS diagnosis, which is not true. Many women are being misdiagnosed or mislabeled due to either the presence or lack of polycystic ovarian morphology. If a woman has two of the three Rotterdam criteria, she has PCOS. However, Dr. Natalie believes there is a need for more expansive criteria for diagnosing PCOS than the current Rotterdam criteria. She also mentions that PCOS is a lifelong condition that can be managed well with the proper practices and strategies. Exploring the Rotterdam criteria In order to qualify someone for a PCOS diagnosis, specialists look for two of the three Rotterdam criteria, which are the presence of polycystic ovarian morphology or a cyst, ovulatory dysfunction, and the presence of excess androgens based on labs. However, Dr. Natalie also looks for other signs like inflammation, insulin resistance, chronic stressors, chronic adrenal dysfunction, and more. What causes PCOS? The root causes or drivers of PCOS include inflammation, insulin resistance, environmental toxins, stressors, childhood trauma, sexual trauma, and toxic maternal relationships. Night shift workers, gymnasts, and high-level athletes often have adrenal stress patterns which can lead to hormone dysregulation and PCOS. Additionally, genetics can play a role in PCOS development as well as metabolic issues such as pancreatic beta cell dysfunction and insulin resistance. Dr. Natalie's bits of advice Adopt lifestyle strategies such as getting exposure to natural light within twenty minutes of waking, eating breakfast outside, taking a ten-minute walk after meals, establishing a consistent sleep pattern, eating an anti-inflammatory diet, managing stress through meditation and vagus nerve exercises, using essential oils for self-care, and re-evaluating close relationships. You can also use supplements, herbal therapies, bioidenticals, and natural antimicrobials. Also, check out Dr. Underberg's recommended lab testing: CBC CMP lipid panel, Iron and ferritin panel, DHEA and DHEAS tests, Progesterone test, Pituitary test, LH and FSH tests, Full thyroid panel, Insulin testing, LDH test, A1C test, DUTCH test, GI-MAP test, CDSA test Order tests through Rupa Health - https://www.rupahealth.com/reference-guide

This episode is a special one! Today I have three of my favorite women's health colleagues and friends on the show: Dr. Saru Bala, a licensed naturopathic physician; Dr. Natalie Underberg, a Functional Medicine Practitioner; and Danielle Kepics, a physician assistant, certified fertility educator, and nutrition coach. Dr. Natalie Underberg is a Functional Medicine Practitioner and the founder of The PCOS Doc. With a doctorate of Chiropractic and advanced training through the Institute of Functional Medicine, Natalie is a leader in the women's health space. She has helped hundreds of women reverse the symptoms of their PCOS and get pregnant naturally through her group program, The PCOS Collective, and her one-on-one tailored holistic approach.  Danielle Kepics is a physician assistant, certified fertility educator, nutrition coach, master's level therapist, and former personal trainer. She is the CEO and founder of Empowered Medicine, where she guides women to be the CEO of their health. She offers one-on-one as well as group coaching services.  Dr. Saru Bala is a licensed naturopathic physician specializing in women's hormonal health. Having been through her fair share of hormonal and gut issues, she knew there were more options than she was presented with, and having to figure it out on her own was exhausting. Dr. Bala wanted to be able to educate other women on their bodies, what's normal, what isn't, and really be an advocate for them to KNOW there are plenty of other options if what they're seeking now isn't working for them or if what they're presented with isn't the path they're looking for. In this episode, we talk about what we consider to be the most critical aspects of women's healthcare that need attention. We discuss why women aren't getting the care they need, the fact that women are more confused than ever about how to take care of themselves, how you can access the care you need, why you should prioritize your health (even if it feels selfish!), the problems with keto, intermittent fasting, and alcohol, our non-negotiables for our health, and so much more! Thought For Today

I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Tuesday morning, the 15th of November 2022, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.“Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.” Romans 5:5Hope does not disappoint. Faith is for now, hope is for the future. Hope is faith in the future tense. Isn't that beautiful? Hope is grief's best music. That's right - don't give up. People who have hope are people who have patience. I think John Calvin said that. They are prepared to wait for their miracle. People who lose hope become very impatient, and very erratic and they do things in desperation, and then normally mess it up completely. Many years ago, I went to Underberg. It is about maybe three or four hours drive from our farm, Shalom, to purchase a beautiful Simmental bull from the late Cedric Taylor. I went with my truck to load him up. Cedric wasn't there but he had asked his staff to help me load. We got there and this magnificent bull weighed over a ton. This bull could have pushed any international rugby pack around the field with no problem at all. He was a beast of an animal but the harder the staff tried to load this bull, the angrier he became and he would not load. The staff started losing hope and so did I, and then all of a sudden I heard the pick-up arrive and old Mr Taylor got out. He was not a very big man but he had massive hands and he said, “Boys, just stand back a bit.” Quietly, with patience and lots of hope, he walked up to the bull and started quietly speaking to the bull and rubbing him on his back. Quietly and gently the bull walked straight onto the back of the truck. We closed the tailgate and we drove home.Be patient, do not lose hope. Trust in Jesus and He will do it for you!Have a wonderful day,Jesus bless you and goodbye.
