Read the full transcript here. Why does it seem that many people read self-help books with no intention of actually doing what the books prescribe? Why are self-help books often less clear than it seems they ought to be? What are self-help books actually designed to do? Why do self-help authors continue to write as though their ideas will help everyone when it seems fairly obvious that no single self-help book has ever been a global panacea? Should self-help advice differ based on the gender of the receiver? How does life coaching differ from self-help? How does therapy differ both from life coaching and from self-help? Should therapists fire their clients once the clients' problems have been solved? Should therapists give homework? What are the best and worst ideas commonly found in self-help books?Kristen Meinzer is a culture critic, podcaster, and author. She cohosts the podcast How To Be Fine (Apple Podcasts, Instagram), formerly called By The Book, which looks at the good and the bad of the wellness industry. She also cohosts the podcast The Daily Fail, which does comedic close readings of the tabloids. What a CreepRoyal Family PR FiascosSeason 24, Episode 5With the latest news of an insanely unusual news cycle that, unfortunately, includes Kate Middleton being diagnosed with cancer, we decided to speak to supreme royal expert and friend of the pod Kristen Meinzer of the Daily Fail podcast to talk about what the heck is going on with the House of Windsor. With baffling (or complete lack of?) strategic communications, a frighteningly low number of royals who can pinch-hit while King Charles is convalescing, and novice photoshopping--can this get any weirder? On today's episode of Hear Me Out… ‘tis the damn season. Break out the glitter and the ugly sweaters. If you're on social media, you've probably seen a lot of minimalist holiday décor this year — from celebrities, influencers, and DIY-ers alike. It seems trendy to try “class up” the holidays and eschew the bright and gaudy for the monotone, the understated, or the expensive-looking… but does living in fear of committing a faux pas maybe miss the point? Kristen Meinzer, culture critic and cohost of The Daily Fail, joins us to defend the tacky — as not only counterculture, but as the real reason for the season. Picture the moment at the end of dinner with a friend when the bill arrives and you lock eyes with one another, silently asking…how should we split this? It's awkward, and it's one of many conversations about money – small and big – we have to navigate with the ones we love. We're diving into mutuals & money in this episode with a story from Kristen Meinzer (author and host of How to Be Fine, Daily Fail and many more) who lent money to a friend with the right intentions, but the wrong logic. We also hear from financial expert Gigi Gonzalez (aka The First Gen Mentor) who spills all her etiquette tea around talking money with friends. What a Creep: Hilaria BaldwinSpecial Guest: Kristen Meinzer “Daily Fail”Season 21, Episode 9Sonia Mansfield is still in Ireland having the time of her life, but fear not cohorts--we have an excellent special guest to help us call out some Creeps! Kristen Meinzer (How To Be Fine / Daily Fail / By The Book / Movie Therapy with Rafer & Kristen Author, So You Want to Start a Podcast / How to Be Fine) discusses one of our most confounding subjects. Hilaria Baldwin was a popular yoga instructor in NYC when she met and married one of our Creep subjects, Alec Baldwin.Between posting intricate (and lingerie-heavy) poses on Instagram and appearing on several shows as a Spanish cooking expert, something lurked underneath her heavy accent (“How you say, ‘cucumber?”) and European. She was a Boston girl named Hilary Hayward Thomas who was making up a whole persona. Kristen has launched a new podcast called the Daily Fail, and we're giving you a taste of it today! In each episode of the Daily Fail, Kristen and her friend Maura read the dumbest stories in the world's worst daily tabloid so you don't have to - from dangerously stupid weight loss stories - to misogynistic celebrity profiles - to flat out racist hot takes on Meghan Markle. The Daily Fail is a comedy show. It's close reading. And to quote one Apple Podcast reviewer: "it's service journalism at its finest." If you like what you hear, be sure to subscribe to the Daily Fail wherever you get your favorite shows.
This week, Daily Fail hosts Maura Currie and Kristen Meinzer join us to unwind from a particularly steamy week! We swap tricks for staying cool, talk about the joy of eating in front of the TV, and debunk sexist myths about hunter gatherers. Plus, in another installment of our ongoing Nerdy Jobs series, we meet Jennifer Mundt. She is a sleep psychologist at Northwestern Medicine, where she directs the Behavioral Sleep Medicine Lab and Training Program. She takes us on a trip to the lab and explains why we should accept night owls for who they are. ]]>
On today's episode of Hear Me Out… royal pains. The British Royals are far from the imperial power they once were. Whether you love the institution, hate it, or simply don't care, it's hard to deny that it feels like an artifact of another time. Which is perhaps why Meghan Markle's arrival on the scene – and subsequent departure, with Prince Harry at her side – threw so many people for a loop. Meghan continues to receive racist, sexist, and downright fabricated harassment from the public, and particularly the tabloids… and so do the people who defend her. Kristen Meinzer, culture critic and host of The Daily Fail, joins us again to explain why we need to care about Meghan — and defend her. The last couple of years have been a time of enormous change for the House of Windsor, the United Kingdom, and the 14 nations that comprise the Commonwealth, and we are so grateful to be joined by podcasting superstar and Royal watcher extraordinaire Kristen Meinzer to discuss. When Queen Elizabeth II died on September 8, 2022, Prince Charles, England's longest-serving Prince of Wales, immediately fulfilled the obligation he had waited 73 years to meet: He became King Charles III, and his second wife, the former Camilla Parker Bowles, was coronated Queen alongside him on May 6 of this year. It's no secret that Charles and Camilla's history is… complicated. Kristen walks us through the decades of history behind their 2005 marriage, as well as the toxicity of Camilla's close friendships with some of the UK's least savory media personalities. Check out more of Kristen's Royal (and more) watching at The Daily Fail podcast on Apple, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts. Learn more about your ad choices. We temporarily emerge from our continued hibernation to react (let's be real - rant!) to the outrageous Daily Fail and Sun articles from this past weekend. We also cover the latest book reports, (the lack of) legal updates, Britney & Lynne's recent possible step forward, a few music rumors and pose a burning question: why can't they afford poop bags?!

Then, Podcast LEGEND, Royal Family Correspondent/Expert Kristen Meinzer joins to fix King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla Parker Bowles. Meghan Markle won her legal battle against the Daily "Fail" - and Piers Morgan didn't like it.
This week we chew the fat about trash tabloids such as the Daily Mail and The SunThe ridiculous headlines they publish and the lies they spread for likes.
Hosts: Ed Brown, Dr. Shayne Joseph, Penny Dumsday 00:00:48 A study seemed to find a link between artificially sweetened drinks and serious health problems. Many media outlets quickly proclaimed that "Diet drinks triple your risk of stroke and dementia" (Daily Fail). But how seriously should that study be taken? 00:05:27 Humans produce about 311 million tons of plastic each year, a number that's is predicted to double in the next twenty years. But an accidental discovery from a Spanish bee scientist points to some caterpillars that might help break plastic down. 00:12:07 A new paper published in the journal Ecology finds that female dragonflies are faking their own deaths in order to get away from horny males! 00:17:34 A team led by Viviane Slon from the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology has managed to extract and sequence the DNA of ancient animals from sediment - not bone - that's up to 240,000 years old. This episode contains traces of Mary Bubala and Tracey Leong talking about artificial sweeteners on CBS Baltimore.
This week brings you March for Science, a correction from Bethania Palma regarding last week's interview, Catherine of Siena, more bad measles news in Europe, BBC and homeopathy and new fact checking tools on Google. On top of that you will also be shocked to find that The Daily Fail is spreading that deliberate tape worm infections can treat autism…
Dave Lane from Brentford blog Beesotted rang up Adrian Durham on Talksport to take him up on his latest article in the Daily Fail - condoning James Tarkowski's stance to refuse to play for Brentford against Burnley - dubbed #Husky-Gate "James Tarkowski was RIGHT to refuse to play for Brentford against Burnley... why should he try and take points off a team he wants to join and win promotion with?" - Durham Listen for yourself. You will hear Durham comes up with the most simplistic theories for things that are not quite that straight forward. He constantly refers to stats - obviously unaware that stats are not the only way of Brentford identifying (key word that) players as they also use traditional means. He fails to mention that using stats to identify possibly new targets is actually more widespread in the league that one may think. Even Arsenal (the team of which Durham is proudly wearing the shirt) have actually bought outright a football stat company Stat DNA (http://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/oct/17/arsenal-place-trust-arsene-wenger-army-statdna-data-analysts) - only that story is not so interesting for Durham. He also keeps banging on about how Brentford 'sacked' Mark Warburton (we won't even dwell on that … its old hat …. and not quite correct) - whereas only two years ago he was lambasting Warburton and the system he was using for creating a side with two many loan players - LoanFord (http://bit.ly/1V5bzAy). He bangs on about loyalty. And why should Tarkowski show loyalty to an owner who showed a previous manager no loyalty? Quite frankly that is a gibberish argument. Surely you should show loyalty to your team mates and also fans who pay your wages. Never mind having some values and … manners. The saddest thing is ... as an Arsenal fan who occasionally finds himself down at Peterboro .. Durham doesn't seem to understand the concept of a player being contracted to one team .. being paid by that one team ... and then playing for that team week in an week out because that is what he is paid to do. The irony (or should we say hypocrisy) of the Daily Fail lambasting the junior doctors for striking but then condoning a footballer for doing exactly the same thing is quite frankly laughable. The parallel would be TalkSport giving him Durham a 3 year contract .. then the BBC trying to headhunt him (fat chance .. but you get the drift) .. Talksport knocking them back as the BBC refused to pay the remaining years of his contract … and Durham then sulking and refusing to do his show. Ironically, Andre Gray - who Durham was only too happy to chirp on about being signed by Burnley - was subject to a £6m plus bid by Bristol City a few weeks before his move to the North East. He looked all set to move to City. However, he still played against them at Ashton Gate and even scored. His theory that Tarkowski may not have wanted to help his new team (Burnley) to win while playing for the team he is contracted to (Brentford) - even though a deal is far from being done - is quite frankly laughable. And makes you think - why have we spent so much time trying to pick holes in his argument. We will be discussing this plus much more on the Beesotted PrideOfWest.London podcast this week so subscribe on itunes with this link http://bit.ly/BeesottedItunes #BrentfordFC #BurnleyFC #posh
