So I am still in my unofficial hiatus to work on my novel-in-progress. I really had to do this episode because like many people I have tons of thoughts about Andor Season 2. I gathered some friends and colleagues that I thought would have good takes on the series. In this panel I welcomed a diverse group of folks. Issa Diao former vocalist of Good Clean Fun and veteran of my Star Trek breakdowns is back, then we have (Fn)David Woken who is a librarian who has studied labor and revolutionary history in Latin America. Finally we have author Alma Katsu who before becoming an award winning, and bestselling horror novelist worked as an intelligence analyst at CIA. We talk about the highs and lows of Andor, what is good spycraft and what isn't, The film and revolutionary influences on Andor, what we want in Star Wars media and more. •You can find my books here:Amazon-https://www.amazon.com/David-Agranoff/e/B004FGT4ZW•And me here:Goodreads-http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/2988332.David_AgranoffTwitter-https://twitter.com/DAgranoffAuthorBlog-http://davidagranoff.blogspot.com/

Stephen Graham Jones should need little introduction. He was the guest on the 13th episode of this podcast, talking about his horror masterpiece The Only Good Indian. He was also on a panel episode with Paul Tremblay and Josh Malerman talking about one of our favorite topics Basketball. Very excited to point out that I got to be Stpehen's first interview on this incredible vampire novel Buffalo Hunter Hunter. In this conversation we talk about Stpehen's Vampire class that inspired this book, his process on it, some of our favorite vampire classics and of course the forthcoming novel (out 3/18/25). We stay mostly spoiler free, but I give a warning before we go deeper into the themes and the final act. Buffalo Hunter Hunter was one of the best reads I had last year. One of the new releases I consider a masterpiece. They talked about Mave Fly for a solid twenty minutes singing its praises. They hyped it so much, and I respect their opinions that I think the novel could not possibly meet the hype. For many readers, CJ Leede's first novel Mave Fly more than met the hype. It was a massive success, and I was excited to read her follow-up American Rapture. In this episode CJ and I talk about her excellent weird apocalypse novel American Rapture. Episode 122 of Postcards is a special episode featuring the return of one of my favorite authors. Cyberpunk, Science Fiction, and horror legend John Shirley is most famous as one of the screenwriters of The Crow. He is the author of several dozen novels and multiple award-nominated and acclaimed short story collections including the award-winning Black Butterflies and the recently reissued Really, Really, Really, Really Weird Stories. As a novelist I consider John to have masterpieces in both Science Fiction (City Come A-Walkin) and Horror (Wetbones). The last time he came on we talked about his recently released SF novel Stormland. This time we are talking about his new Science Fiction action novel Subortibal7. Developed alongside the studio Alon Entertainment who developed the TV series of The Expanse and the recent Blade Runner sequel. Suborbital7 will be on my top ten when the year is over so highly recommended. In this interview we breakdown this new fresh take on military science fiction and orbital combat that is ripped from tomorrow's headlines. We talk about John's recent projects, the real-life inspirations for Suborbital7, deep research, and writing realistic space combat. The first 45 minutes or so is spoiler-free. Then after a spoiler warning, I make John very uncomfortable talking about all of the writing process. Multiple people responded saying it wasn't their favorite of the year. I invited all the people who weighed in and trying to schedule 4 time zones and five people's schedules proved impossible. So it ended but three people instead six. I tried. This interview is overdue on the podcast. David James Keaton is a guest I have wanted on many times before. His work circles around bizarro, science fiction, and horror. Head Cleaner is a Sci-fi horror hybrid that exists pays loving homage to the VHS era and more importantly the random video stores. In this discussion, we talk about movies, video stores, VHS time distortion, and this mind-bending and at times hilarious novel. Don't worry we give a spoiler warning before we get into details. David James Keaton's writing has appeared in over 75 publications, online and in print. He received his MFA from the University of Pittsburgh and was the co-founder and Editor-in-Chief of Flywheel Magazine. His first collection of fiction, FISH BITES COP! In this episode of the podcast,I talked with Steve Davidson, the co-editor of the original science fiction magazine Amazing Stories. A lifelong active member of the Science Fiction fan community a few years back Steve noticed that Hasbro the one-time owner of Amazing Stories has let the trademark lapse. In this episode, we talk about how Steve became the owner of the classic trademark, the magazine, and the legacy of the OG Hugo Gernsbeck. We also talk about the 1920s SF community highlighted Davidson's book Cents of Wonder. The stories in this book were entries in a series of writing contests held in 1926 and 29, that used a piece of art as a story prompt. Writers could submit stories inspired by the art and Gernsbeck choose winners and honorable mentions. There was a cash prize for the top winners. The reason for this contest is simple. Gernsbeck needed to encourage new writers and expand his pool of talent. This is a must listen for fans of Science Fiction history. •You can find my books here: Amazon-https://www.amazon.com/David-Agranoff/e/B004FGT4ZW •And me here: Goodreads-http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/2988332.David_Agranoff Twitter-https://twitter.com/DAgranoffAuthor Blog-http://davidagranoff.blogspot.com/

Barry N. Malazberg and his multiple Science Fiction personalities were on the frontlines as eras shifted from Asimovian ideas to a counter-culture middle finger held high novels filled with sex, drugs, and political points of view. One of his weirdest meta- SF novels was the thin 1974 masterpiece Galaxies. The novel is the story of a 40th-century starship captain and the science fiction writer creating her and the novel at the same time. Galaxies was reprinted a few years ago by Professor D. Harlan Wilson's Anti-Oedipus Press. So who better to join me for this discussion... In this episode, we talk about why Barry Malzberg is a genius, underrated, and vastly more important to 20th-century Science Fiction than given credit for. Why he alone was in a position to make this commentary, we go on tangents about Philip K. Dick, John Brunner and some on this panel argue that Ursula K. Leguin is overrated. D. Harlan Wilson is a researcher, publisher, and author. His fiction includes a dozen novels and plays including Dr. Idenity and Jackanape and the Fingerman. His non-fiction includes the Modern Masters of Science Fiction series book on J.G. Ballard and a critical companion to the Stars, My Destination. James Reich is the author of Soft Invasions and The Song My Enemies Sing. These are two of my favorite writers and I loved every stinking minute spent talking with them, I hope you will too. •You can find my books here: Amazon-https://www.amazon.com/David-Agranoff/e/B004FGT4ZW •And me here: Goodreads-http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/2988332.David_Agranoff Twitter-https://twitter.com/DAgranoffAuthor Blog-http://davidagranoff.blogspot.com/
