Episode 82 – How young is too young to start Behaviour Meds?   “Oh, I'm sure they'll grow out of it…”. A phrase that makes my heart sink when it comes to young dogs with obvious behavioural diagnoses. Now, what do I mean by “young”? We're talking about dogs somewhere between 6 and 12 months of age and yes, it is absolutely possible that these youngsters already have a behavioural diagnosis based on genetics, epigenetics and early life learning experiences. Should we wait to treat them? Absolutely not! In this episode, I chat through my reasons for making this bold statement and present you with a nice study by Dr Jill Sackman, DACVB, et.al. “Outcomes and side effects of Behavior Medications in young dogs”, that shows that the use of behaviour medications in young dogs (6-12 months of age), is safe and prevents the continued development of more troublesome problem behaviours!   To learn more about adolescence in dogs, have a listen to Episode 67 of this podcast !   If you'd like to learn more about Veterinary Psychopharmacology, then click on the link below for more information on Psychoactive!   PSYCHOACTIVE – PRACTICAL VETERINARY PSYCHOPHARMACOLOGY https://katrin-jahn.mykajabi.com/psychoactive This course is epic. This course is my soul's work and contains the wisdom I want to share with you after safely and effectively using Veterinary Psychopharmacology in hundreds of my patients.   And… if you're not quite ready for Psychoactive, here is the link to my hour-long Masterclass on the Basics of Veterinary Psychopharmacology: https://katrin-jahn.mykajabi.com/veterinary-behaviour-basics   I really hope you enjoy this episode!   If you liked this episode of the show, The Pet Behaviour Chat, please LEAVE A 5-STAR REVIEW, like, share, and subscribe!   Facebook Group: Join The Veterinary Behaviour Community on Facebook   You can CONNECT with me: Website: Visit my website Trinity Veterinary Behaviour Instagram: Follow Trinity Veterinary Behaviour on Instagram Trinity Veterinary Behaviour Facebook: Join us on Trinity Veterinary Behaviour's Facebook page Trinity Veterinary Behaviour YouTube: Subscribe to Trinity Veterinary Behaviour on YouTube LinkedIn Profile: Connect with me on LinkedIn   Thank you for tuning in!

In this episode of Psychedelics Today, Joe Moore sits down with South African ethnobotanist and healer Jean-François Sobiecki to explore the rich and largely underrecognized world of African psychoactive plants. With over two decades of fieldwork and research, Jean-François sheds light on the traditional use of these plants in healing, divination, and spiritual practices across Southern Africa. Topics covered include: Jean-François's early inspirations and the ancestral roots of his herbal knowledge His discovery and documentation of 306 African psychoactive plant species The ritual use of Ubuwalu (dream-enhancing emetic infusions) and their role in personal transformation How vomiting, dietary restrictions, and sensory isolation are used as part of initiation processes Cross-cultural parallels between Southern African and Amazonian plant healing traditions The underexplored use of psychoactive plants to treat mental health conditions like schizophrenia and hysteria Ethical fieldwork, indigenous knowledge protection, and the dangers of overharvesting sacred plants Visions for healing and conservation gardens in Africa and the role these plants could play in global mental health Jean-François shares moving stories of his 15-year mentorship with a Northern Sotho diviner and healer, Letti Ponnya, and how she introduced him to African “plant teacher” medicines. His message is clear: Africa has a deep, sophisticated, and scientifically underappreciated tradition of psychoactive plant use that deserves recognition, respect, and further study.

Focusing during wartime with Dan Schachter on The Living Process with Greg Madison. E29 Welcome to this episode of The Living Process, following quite soon on the last episode because of the topical nature of my conversation with Dan.  In our conversation, we speak mainly about the experience of living within the conflict between Israel and Palestine. We also talk about Dan's gradual transition from psychoanalysis to experiential therapy back in the early 1990s. Dan has trained in Somatic Experiencing and EMDR and works in a trauma clinic as well as privately.  We touched on what it is like to work as a clinical psychologist with clients who might have a very different perspective on the war going on around them. What it is like to be living in a society that is undergoing such a deep crisis which all clients and therapists are affected by on a daily basis? Dan talks about how crucial felt sensing, TAE, and Gendlin's underlying experiential philosophy have been as a resource in his attempts to navigate the complexity of feelings and attitudes amongst Israelis. We acknowledge how difficult it is to hold the tension between one's own truth and wanting to remain open to the nuances of other opinions with an awareness that even in this podcast we are inevitably stepping into this minefield of judgment and criticism. Dan mentions his participation in PsychoActive, a mental health group for human rights opposed to the occupation of Palestinian territory, and how taking such a stance does not close him to being curious about other ways of experiencing all that is happening in his region of the world.   Dan Schachter,  Is originally from Norway and has lived in Israel for many years, speaking English, Hebrew, and Norwegian fluently. Dan is a Focusing coordinator, a Focusing Oriented Therapist, and a clinical psychologist in private practice. He teaches Focusing, TAE (Thinking at the Edge) and the philosophy of the implicit and is well known in the Focusing community for his contributions to various projects including the International Focusing Institute Certification Weeklong core faculty. This episode is sponsored by Magi Ancestral Supplements, whose leading team of neuroscientists, ethnophamacologists, and phytochemists, has unlocked the formulation of an ancient Eastern psychoactive elixir that was lost to time.Lets talk about ancient alchemy today! Today I chat with Dr. Shauheen Etminan, the founder of VCENNA an advanced biotech company specializing in natural drug discovery for mental health, seamlessly blends ancient Eastern medicine with modern science. As a scientist, researcher, product developer, and dedicated entrepreneur, Dr. Etminan is committed to creating holistic wellness solutions rooted in the convergence of medicine and …mysticism. Armed with an MSc and Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Dr. Etminan's expertise extends beyond the technicals. He is a mystic who has been practicing Sufi whirling meditation for many years, reflecting his deep commitment to holistic well-being.
Renowned as a world expert in phytochemical extraction technology, Dr. Etminan explores the realm of psychedelics with a particular focus on ancient texts. Dr. Etminan and his team have unveiled neurological health properties in beta-carbolines. This groundbreaking discovery has led to the formulation and launch of multiple psychoactive supplements designed to promote longevity, mindfulness, and therapeutic benefits under Magi Ancestral Supplements.Ancestral Magi is co-founded by Dr. Shauheen Etminan and has the legendary Dr. Dennis McKenna on its scientific advisory board. They have combined modern neuroscience with ancient Eastern medicine to formulate 100% natural nootropic supplements that are psychoactive and legal!Magi's products' primary group of compounds are beta-carbolines extracted from the sacred plant, Espand, also known as Syrian rue. Their products promote neuro-longevity, mindfulness, and mental wellbeing. Did you know that Espand has the same psychoactive compounds that exist in the Ayahuasca vine? I'm not relating to DMT, but beta-carbolines. Experience the magic of their supplement, Stard, Magi's meditation supplement, which has been my favorite. It provides 60 to 75 minutes of pure bliss, where the mind stops wandering and can be present in the here and now. (Whether you're new to meditation or a seasoned practitioner, Stard is an ancestral catalyst that will take you further on your journey) Magi's supplements are fully legal and currently available in the US. Stay tuned, as they will be available in Europe in July. So you're thinking about trying psychedelics? Are psychedelics right for you? How do you know?  It can be daunting to try to sift through all the information, hype, and stories and truly understand whether or not healing with sacred medicines is something you should invest in. Psychedelics and entheogens are starting to make a comeback, as science and medicine strive to catch up to what our ancestors have known for thousands of years. And there is still a large gap in education, awareness, and understanding of who should use these medicines, what they can do, why you might want to give it a go, and what you need to do to get really ready.    Psychoactive plants and compounds like ayahuasca, San Pedro, psilocybin, and LSD, DMT, Bufo (5-meoDMT) (just to name a few) can offer profound, transformational experiences and healing for everything from depression to addiction, but it can feel like there's a lot of mystery around going from just being curious to taking the leap, finding a guide, or sitting in a ceremony, whatever that looks like for you.  Psychedelics call to us for different reasons. Some of us want to expand our consciousness and deepen our connection to Spirit, or make changes in our own lives to be better stewards of our world and our time in it. Others are seeking healing for physical diseases, emotional trauma, and mental health issues like depression, anxiety, or PTSD. And others find psychedelics through recreational means and often have accidental breakthroughs with life altering results.  The main thing to keep in mind is that people often come to psychedelics looking for a miracle or an overnight cure. I say this all the time, but rarely does it work like that. Working with psychedelics is a long process that takes constant reflection, shadow work, determination, and resilience to get the most out of your journeys. It can open up a process that may last the rest of your life. It's that powerful, and knowing how much work you may need to do after the fact is something that should be considered before beginning the process.  WORK WITH SINCLAIR Join NEST Group Integration Membership 1:1 Private Coaching: Learn More and Book a FREE Connection Session Join my mailing list and get my FREE Ultimate Quickstart Guide to Healing with Psychedelics  Come to an event or retreat Book a private or group experience --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/psychedelicintegrationpod/message

In this episode, Joe interviews Ethan Nadelmann: author, speaker, Founder and former Executive Director of Drug Policy Alliance, host of the PSYCHOACTIVE podcast, and one of the leading voices in drug policy reform and harm reduction.  Nadelmann shares his journey from Princeton University to founding Drug Policy Alliance, to working with George Soros, encouraging Gary Johnson to push cannabis legalization, and interacting with prominent figures like Milton Friedman and Grover Norquist. He explores the motivations behind the drug war, the massive growth of incarcerations it led to, why the US spread its war on drugs abroad even when it went against our best interests, and, thankfully, the progress made in fighting the drug war – particularly with cannabis and psychedelics. And he discusses much more: the banning of drug testing kits; the damages of our slow learning curve against the idea of a safe supply; the risks of under-prescribing opioids for people who actually need them; how libertarians, the right, and left are all starting to become against the drug war for the same reasons; why cigarette smokers should all switch to vaping; the concept of needing to pass a test at the pharmacy to prove you understand (and won't abuse) medication; and some strong arguments for decriminalization as an incremental step. And he asks some pretty important questions that we can all simmer on for a bit: how do we find a balance between helping people and not opening the rest of society up to harm? How do we challenge abuse in a way that doesn't hurt future harm reduction efforts? And how do we incentivize people into acting in their own best interests?  Click here to head to the show notes page.

Can synthetic drugs induce true feelings of love?Looking for a link we mentioned? It's here: https://linktr.ee/philosophyforourtimesFrom the Christian tenet 'God is love' to the plots of countless novels and films, love is seen as central to our lives. Yet from scientific studies along with anecdotal accounts we know that psychoactive substances and MDMA in particular can enhance and even induce feelings of love. If love can be hacked by a change in brain chemistry, might our romanticised idea of love itself be the distortion? Should we use drugs to encourage, initiate and repair relationships as some therapists advocate? Or are such experiences false, damaging, and potentially socially dangerous? Is love a product of brain chemistry, or, is it something deeper that a drug could never replicate? (www.Bendistillery.com) all located in Bend, OR.   I was made aware of LFTD Partners by Scott Weis from Semco Capital, and after doing a quick dive into the company, I invited them on to better understand how LFTD has gotten to where they are today.   You hear me gush a little bit in this interview, not a recommendation nor do I own LFTD Partners, but I've been interviewing cannabis companies for 8-9+ years now, was right there at the beginning interviewing psychedelics companies, and have chatted with countless investors/experts that are active in the space. The majority of the companies, I would argue, have or will fail in building a business in cannabis or psychedelics, especially in this nuclear winter, negative sentiment environment for this space. And so, when I come across a company like LFTD, I wanted to share a story that, for all intents and purposes, is not just surviving, but also thriving. That's not to say there hasn't been bumps in the road, which we discuss, as well as: Lifted Made's brands: Silly Shruum and Urb Finest Flowers Managing regulatory risks Building out their distribution and sales networks Importance of Brand IP; and Running a psychedelics/cannabis company through the current nuclear winter/negative sentiment With that, please enjoy my conversation with Gerry Jacobs and Nick Warrender from LFTD Partners, Inc.   Today's episode is sponsored by: Socialsuite takes the complexity out of Environmental, Social, and Governance or ESG reporting. Hamilton Morris and Dr. Mark Plotkin — Exploring the History of Psychoactive Substances, Synthetic vs. Natural Options, Microdosing, 5-MeO-DMT, The “Drunken Monkey” Hypothesis, Timothy Leary's Legacy, and More | Brought to you by Athletic Greens all-in-one nutritional supplement and 5-Bullet Friday, my very own email newsletter. More on both below.Welcome to The Tim Ferriss Show, where it is usually my job to deconstruct world-class performers, to tease out their routines, habits, et cetera that you can apply to your own life. This time around, we have a very special edition featuring two of your favorite guests: Dr. Mark Plotkin and Hamilton Morris. Mark takes over my duties as host and interviews Hamilton for an episode of the Plants of the Gods podcast. You, my dear listeners, are hearing the audio before anyone else, so this is a Tim Ferriss Show exclusive. I've previously featured some of my favorite episodes from that show at tim.blog/plantsofthegods. These episodes cover a lot of fascinating ground.Who is Mark? Mark (@DocMarkPlotkin) is an ethnobotanist who serves as president of the Amazon Conservation Team, which has partnered with ~80 tribes to map and improve management and protection of ~100 million acres of ancestral rainforests. He is best known to the general public as the author of the book Tales of a Shaman's Apprentice, one of the most popular books ever written about the rainforest. His most recent book is The Amazon: What Everyone Needs to Know. You can find my interview with Mark at tim.blog/markplotkin. And the guest today is Hamilton Morris. Hamilton (@HamiltonMorris) is a chemist, filmmaker, and science journalist. A graduate of The New School, he conducts chemistry research at Saint Joseph's University. Hamilton is the writer and director of the documentary series Hamilton's Pharmacopeia, in which he explores the chemistry and traditions surrounding psychoactive drugs. You can find my most recent interview with him at tim.blog/hamilton. This is a tightly packed 60-minute interview. Mark and Hamilton cover the history of different psychoactive substances, Timothy Leary's legacy, the “drunken monkey” hypothesis, conservation, microdosing, the differences between 5-MeO-DMT and DMT, a disease that afflicts people who smoke enormous quantities of cannabis, causing them to vomit continuously and only find relief from their nausea by taking a hot shower (yes, really), the impact of the placebo effect, a synthetic vs. a natural product, the role of ritual, and much, much more. Please enjoy!*This episode is brought to you by Athletic Greens. I get asked all the time, “If you could use only one supplement, what would it be?” My answer is usually AG1 by Athletic Greens, my all-in-one nutritional insurance. I recommended it in The 4-Hour Body in 2010 and did not get paid to do so. LSD is a powerful, mind-bending drug. Only a crazy person would try and tell a coherent and compelling two-hour-plus historical narrative while frying their brain on the equivalent of four hits of acid. And well... I am that crazy person. Today, to celebrate the 300th episode of Timesuck, I try and pull this story off immediately after dropping two double-hits of LSD. And things get.... weird. Also, what an amazing story! Bass Reeves' name and story are finally getting more exposure and it's about damn time! There's a good reason some people think Bass is the real-life inspiration for the Lone Ranger. This guy was a borderline superhero. Quick on the draw, fearless, and possession a relentless sense of justice, if you were and outlaw and Bass had ahold of your warrant.... you were as good as caught. Or as good as dead. The man was like a Wild West Boba Fett. He was the best at one of the hardest jobs in the Wild West  - a Deputy Marshal tracking down wanted men - and the occasional wanted woman - in Indian Territory, an especially lawless land that sat where present day Oklahoma now stands. Adventure awaits in today's yip, yip, yaw episode of Timesuck. Bad Magic Productions Monthly Patreon Donation:  The Bad Magic Charity for June is The Rainbow Railroad. We're donating a TBD amount.
