Chris Barber has been involved in folk music and folk clubs as long as he can remember, and joined Forest of Dean Morris in the 1980s after getting married and moving to Gloucestershire. Shortly after joining the team, he was asked if he would like to be the Old Fool. The Fool is 'the Lord of Misrule' - his role is to attract an audience, keep them entertained between the dances and add an element of danger to the dances by interacting with the dancers. Forest of Dean Morris wear rag coats. These are homemade garments made by stitching multi coloured rags on to old jackets or waistcoats. Chris and his wife made his Fool's costume from an old tailcoat. They created his top hat out of a cornflake packet.

Dean Morris is a very good man. It's a feeling you get immediately—he feels like the human version of an all-encompassing, welcoming hug. A longtime educator, he found his way to being a pastor, an athlete and lululemon ambassador and now co-host of the podcast A Little More Good & A More Good Media cofounder. He grew up in Richmond, on an acre property in the middle of the city. It was a quintessential childhood, running free and exploring the outdoors—he was always curious about how things worked and wanted to understand the world around him. In high school, his class was tasked to research their heroes, leading him to find leaders like Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr., both of whom looked up to Jesus as a guiding light. Religion was not a foundation of his household, but Dean had friends who were part of a church and, in his curiosity and despite some skepticism, met with a pastor to ask about Jesus. He started to go to church, with some wise words from his father: keep your brain turned on. When his parents divorced after his high school graduation, Dean went through a huge transformation within and began to truly understand the spiritual nature of who he was. He began working at church, where he did some music and teaching and eventually went to seminary and got his masters in ministry leadership and culture.       In this conversation, we explore topics from ownership versus belonging; his desire for social justice; reconciling with his ability to carry the weight and hold space for many others; the tools he uses to regulate his nervous system and triggers; religious doctrine & Christianity and how it's moved away from the original values of pure love and acceptance; the advent of ‘new religions'; how his relationship with running and his physical body has changed recently; and more.[TIMESTAMPS]5:46 - His childhood19:29 - The thing in his life that changed his perspective 26:52 - How he deals with dis-regulation in the body31:59 - His spiritual path1:05:36 - What religion means to people nowadays1:17:05 - His university path1:19:59 - What is he unlearning1:29:29 - What holding space means to him1:31:31 - Final question 1:35:17 - Where to find him[TODAY'S SPONSORS]Before Company: https://beforecompany.com/discount/CRAFT10 - get 10% off your entire order; one-time use per customer; no expiry dateotō healing: https://www.instagram.com/otohealing/ - email otohealing at gmail.com to get 10% off your initial sound therapy sessionBefore Company: https://beforecompany.com/discount/CRAFT10 - get 10% off your entire order; one-time use per customer; no expiry dateotō healing: https://www.instagram.com/otohealing/ - email otohealing at gmail.com to get 10% off your initial sound therapy session

To take a page from the legend that is Oprah, if there is one thing I know, it's that being well is not just about the food we eat. Which is why I called this The Allsorts Podcast…because I wanted to talk about all sorts of things! I truly believe that our sense of purpose, connection to community and a belief in something larger than ourselves impacts how we perceive the world around us, and ourselves. Which is why I've been thinking about doing this episode for a while now. We're going to talk about faith, religion and spirituality, a topic that I know can be incredibly divisive and triggering for many people. And I could not think of a better person to have this conversation with than my friend Dean Morris, the “rebel” pastor and co-host of A Little More Good Podcast. I feel like I should lay my cards on the table right now: I am not a religious person, despite having been baptised Catholic. In fact, I am wary of the idea of organized religion, because so many harms are inflicted in its name. So I don't think I could have imagined this episode without knowing Dean. This conversation is honest, open and probably contains a lot of hot takes that will surprise you. Dean (who was not raised Christian!) has an incredibly kind, modern and inclusive approach to faith that might change how you view - if not church itself - then the core messages of Christianity. If you're at all curious, or if you consider yourself a seeker, I hope you're going to love this conversation! About Dean Morris: Dean Morris is a person who wears many hats… Dad, Teacher, Runner, Podcaster, Pastor, Community organizer, and plant based human. On this episode we chat about: Dean's journey to Christianity, growing up without religion How Dean's love of Rage Against The Machine led him to learning about Jesus Why faith should be about love and freedom How embracing the teachings of spiritual leaders like Jesus and the Buddha would radically change the world for the better How Spiritual community is as central to wellness as nutrition or movement How to move towards spirit/source/God if you have not felt safe in religious spaces The role of prayer and meditation in spiritual connection The challenges of interpreting the Bible when it was not written to us in modern times How plant-based eating aligns with Dean's interpretation of the Bible How breath connects us to spirit Why an afterlife-focused faith has contributed to the destruction of nature Support the Pod! We couldn't make this podcast happen without the support of our amazing listeners. I love hearing your feedback on these episodes to be sure to join the conversation on our instagram @theallsortspod @deaner as well as in our Nutrition with Desiree community. If you love this episode, please share it with your friends and family, or take a minute to rate, review or subscribe on your favourite podcast app. We appreciate EVERY. SINGLE. LISTEN! Thanks so much for listening to this episode of The Allsorts Podcast, which is produced by myself and edited by Brian McCalman. We are grateful to live and work and learn on the unceded and ancestral territory of the squamish, musqueum, and tsleil-waututh peoples. Hello friends,We are very excited for this week's podcast. Not only is this conversation rich, fun, and inspiring, it is my first-ever collaborative podcast with my dear friends Zach Berman and Dean Morris of A Little More Good podcast. And the reason for this creative format was inspired by our guest, the one and only Jeff Hamada.Jeff is a Japanese-Canadian artist who hails from right here in Vancouver, or Richmond to be specific. Jeff is perhaps best known for his website Booooooom, which he launched in 2008. The website was wonderfully curated and deeply interactive with guest submissions, collaborative projects and the ever present invitation to poke around and be inspired to create something yourself. Booooooom quickly became Canada's largest online art publication, giving thousands of artists and creatives exposure on a huge level.Jeff is many things: an artist, a film maker, games master, tenacious hockey player, and great pal to be stuck in a waiting room with. But, above all, he is very humble and approachable, and is always wanting to create community and connection. We were thrilled to sit down and chat with him about his upbringing, his sense of wonder and creativity, the future of the internet and how web personalization is a threat to our creativity, aliens, and more.We KNOW you're going to enjoy this episode. As always, thank you for tuning in!May, Zach & Dean

Alright friends, we're flipping the script a bit this week, and Zach is jumping in the interviewer seat to do a deep dive on his co-host Dean Morris - aka Deaner.Dean wears many hats, father, Lululemon run ambassador, teacher, musician and pastor. And in this conversation Z&D follow a free flowing conversation that covers many aspects of Dean's life, and his work in the world beyond A Little More Good.If you are turned off by Christianity, or have had bad or painful experiences of Church this episode might be challenging for you, but we invite you to listen with open ears and minds, as Deaner is a bit of a rebellious, outside of the box pastor. Whatever bad things you might have to say about Church, Dean likely agrees with you, but still advocates for hope, love, and generous welcome of the divine to each and every one of us! We also talk about:How Jesus and the bible inspired Dean to embrace a plant-based lifestyle Simple truths that are hard to practice; like forgiveness, love and treating others the way you want to be treated. A fresh look at the teachings of Jesus and the bible, the danger of literal interpretations of the bible, reimagining what a faith community could look like & the responsibility the church carries in perpetuating the plague of loneliness Meditation and the power of turning off to tune inChrist consciousness, the magic of coincidences and how Covid may play a role in us all coming together stronger in communityWe had fun doing this one, we hope you enjoy! My name Is Dean Morris, I am 17 years old. Over six years ago, I started a campaign called GOSAC which stands for Give Our Strays A Chance. It is about raising awareness of adopting and donating to animal shelters. I am raising donations for animal rescue groups in Perth and GOSAC has truly made a difference. Many poor strays have been saved and thousands of dollars were raised to pay for vet, food, beds etc. GOSAC really saves lives! During COVID-19, I partnered with ARC and Petbarn Foundation to work on "Act Of Kindness", helping struggling families feed their pets. I also help homeless people and families at risk with pet supplies. Keeping families together! During crisis's, I help collect medical supplies to treat wild life injured by bushfires.
