Nick & Tim helm a relatively new project called Disfigure. So far, they have just one tape release though they are working on more. Nick worked on many of the songs in relative isolation while living in New Hampshire and then recorded them with Tim once back in CT. We start as usual talking about what we're listening to. We recorded in October which lent itself to some opening talk about horror movies and bake off. We quickly veer into how the band started and what inspired it to happen; how they were inspired by Godflesh, d-beat and black metal to create their sound. Conversation continues down that path and veers off until we finally trail off talking about the first Redscroll release after becoming a store, Hostage Calm's Lens - a record Tim is on and a band Nick later joined and also a band that bares little other connection to this current project sound-wise other than the people who made it. Welcome back to Just like the Moon (we through phases).This week we meet the force of nature that is Sylvia Mac. Syvia is the founder of Love Disfigure, Child Burn Survivor, Body Image Campaigner, Diverse Model, Inspirational Speaker, Cross Continent Swimmer, Body Image Blogger.Sylvia endured third and fourth degree burns across her body as a result of an accident when she was just three years old. The experience and her gruelling treatment left her traumatised, suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and depression in later life as well as suicidal thoughts. But at the age of 48 she decided she was not prepared to hide anymore. She went on the found Love Disfigure to raise awareness and offer support for those living with burns and scarring, to inspire others to be proud of their bodies. When she was 4 years old Sylvia Mac suffered 3rd and 4th degree burns over my back and various parts of her body. She was put on life support and was not expected to live. But she pulled through only to face years of surgeries and skin grafts as her body healed. The unseen scars of PTSD took much much longer to recover from. These days Sylvia campaigns for those with body disfigurements by raising awareness through her not-for-profit campaign group, Love Disfigure. For this year's Mental Health Awareness Week theme of Body Image, this is the story of a woman who has one of the most spectacular body images I know of!

Today’s episode is a SPECIAL EPISODE that contains a MINDFUL EATING EXERCISE The idea for this episode comes from an experiment that was conducted at the University of Liverpool in England by Dr. Eric Robinson. In the experiment Dr. Robinson had his subjects listen to a 3 minute mindful eating audio as they were about to eat their meals. The experiment showed that the people that listened to the audio consumed 30% less calories. In the spirit of Dr. Robinson’s experiment, I created a 3 minute mindful eating audio for you. If you’re interested in trying it out, all you need to do is put on your headphones and listen to the track as you’re about to eat a meal. Feel free to listen to the track fully, but if you want to get right to the start of the exercise, you can skip ahead to the 2:03 mark. I’m into health and fitness and so are a lot of my friends. I’m also into meditation, but most of my fitness friends aren’t, because they don’t know how to do it, or, they think it’s too hard. Because of that, I put together a quick and easy meditation practice that can be done in approximately 10 minutes and it includes: a moment for gratitude, an inspiration, a visualization and 5 minutes of meditation using a soundtrack that contains a binaural beat or an isochronic tone.
