Recently retired from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), after 24 years as a special agent, Eric Robinson worked a range of crimes including white collar, counterterrorism, crimes against children, gangs, drugs, and public corruption. He served as a SWAT operator, a firearms instructor, and a tactics instructor. Eric will soon release his first book, a collection of the humorous, surprising, and intriguing moments from his career. The memoir combines his years in law enforcement with his career prior to the Bureau. Eric joined the FBI after 12 years in Christian ministry, to include pastoring a Baptist church in Western NY. With a background as a pastor and years of experience in HUMINT, recruiting and developing informants, Eric is a gifted and easy speaker. He uses humor to disarm and a quick wit to win people over.
Before joining the FBI, Eric Robinson spent 12 years in Christian ministry. He then embarked on an extraordinary 24-year career in federal law enforcement, investigating everything from white-collar crime and public corruption to counterterrorism, gang activity, narcotics trafficking, and crimes against children. Along the way, he served as a SWAT operator, firearms instructor, and tactical trainer. What makes Eric's story especially compelling is not simply the breadth of what he experienced, but the perspective he brought to the job. His years in ministry equipped him with something many investigators never develop: a deep understanding of human nature, trust, redemption, and the hidden stories people carry beneath the surface. That unique foundation shaped the way he built relationships with informants, conducted investigations, and navigated some of the darkest corners of society. It also influenced how he processed the moral complexity, danger, and emotional weight that often accompany a life in law enforcement. In this fascinating conversation, Eric reflects on the intersection of faith and justice, the realities of investigating terrorism and violent crime, the psychology of those who operate outside the law, and what decades of confronting humanity at its best and worst have taught him about courage, character, and the human condition.#LivingToBePodcast #EricRobinson #FBI #FaithAndPurpose #HumanNature #Leadership #PersonalGrowth #Spirituality #Counterterrorism #TrueCrime #LawEnforcement #Resilience #FaithInAction #PurposeDrivenLife #PodcastLife #MeaningAndPurpose #Character #Courage #Redemption #LifeLessonsConnecting with Eric Robinson:Instagram:

Eric Robinson, retired FBI agent, author, and former pastor, shares a gripping story from his time working in the FBI's National Security and Counterterrorism Division. This episode dives into one of his earliest and most unforgettable cases—and it comes with a warning: parts of the story are intense and may be disturbing. The case involved an individual already charged with providing financial support to a spokesperson for Al-Qaeda. While in prison, the suspect confided in another inmate that he wanted to have the judge overseeing his case murdered so a new judge could take over. That inmate quickly became a critical informant. Following the lead, Eric and his team carefully guided the informant on how to handle future conversations. During their discussions, the suspect openly described how he wanted the murder carried out. The informant then suggested he knew someone who could perform the hit. When the suspect agreed, shook hands on the plan, and exchanged money for the job, the evidence was undeniable. The plot sealed his fate—ultimately resulting in a 40-year prison sentence. As part of the operation, Eric had promised the informant a possible five-year reduction in his sentence for cooperating. But in a surprising twist, the informant declined the deal and walked away from the offer entirely. Morgan FriedmanEric's LinkedInEric's Instagram

Eric Robinson examines M Scott Peck's non-linear stages of pseudo-community, chaos, emptiness, and true community through the lens of the early church in Acts. He wonders what it would look like if we were okay with seasons of necessary chaos and intentional emptying to experience true community. #225 - A Baptist pastor walks away from a church he planted… and ends up kicking doors with SWAT as an FBI special agent. That's the real-life career pivot Eric Robinson lived, and his story isn't just a wild résumé line. It's a clear look at how pressure, identity, and responsibility can build slowly until you finally admit the truth: you need a different path.We talk through Eric's early years in ministry, the surprising toll of carrying other people's crises, and why the stress of law enforcement was easier for him to process than the stress of being a pastor. From there, he takes us behind the scenes of a 24-year FBI career: drug squads, gangs, public corruption, organized crime, crimes against children, counterterrorism, and what it means to run human sources who do not have to help but choose to anyway. If you've ever wondered what the FBI is really like beyond the Hollywood version, Eric gives an honest and often funny reality check. We also get into SWAT training and why repetition matters, how agents handle the emotional weight of difficult cases, and what leadership looks like when you're surrounded by smart self-starters. Eric closes with reflections on faith that's been refined by experience, plus details on his upcoming book, Irreverend: From Saving Souls To Chasing Sinners In The FBI.To follow Eric check out his Instagram account @_eric_robinson. In this episode, I sit down with Eric Robinson, a retired FBI agent with a truly unique story. Eric didn't follow a lifelong plan to join the Bureau. In fact, he applied on a whim. But that one decision led him into a career filled with intense investigations, SWAT operations, and moments that most of us only see in movies.Eric gives us a behind-the-scenes look at what it's really like to work for the FBI: from the detailed application process to the realities of working cases involving terrorism, informants, and high-risk arrests. He shares how agents build trust with people, how cases come together, and even walks us through an award-winning investigation that led to a major conviction. We also talk about the emotional side of the job, how agents process difficult situations, the importance of teamwork, and what it takes mentally and emotionally to do this kind of work. Eric clears up common misconceptions about the FBI and explains the difference between what we see in the headlines and what most agents actually do every day. What makes Eric's story even more powerful is his background as a pastor. He shares how his time in ministry shaped the way he approached people in law enforcement, and how lessons about accountability, change, and character carry over into every area of life. This is a fascinating and meaningful conversation that will give you a whole new perspective on law enforcement, purpose, and the power of the choices we make. Eric Robinson was a Baptist pastor before becoming an FBI agent. He was a SWAT operator for 15 years, a tactical and firearms instructor, and worked in Human Intelligence, National Security, and most of the criminal offenses covered by the FBI. He recruited informants, dealt with teen prostitutes, interrogated terrorists, arrested drug dealers and peadophiles, and much more. Two of his cases won the Attorney General's Award. He is writing a book, not released yet, titled "Irreverend." We talk about becoming an FBI agent, morals and ethics in work, why he left his ministry to join the FBI, similarities between the ministry and the FBI, interrogation, why torture happens (and shouldn't happen) in interrogations, the benefits of professional conduct, foiling mass shooters, why school shootings have become more common, lessons learned in the ministry that were useful in his FBI work, prostitution and how girls (and boys) fall into it, practical jokes, drug cartels, ripping off drug dealers, wiretaps and listening to suspects, crack dealers' phones, the Epstien files, how redactions should be done, peadophiles, ICE and how they have been conducting business under the current administration, the current FBI leadership, Antifa, Christian nationalism and white supremacy, and more. links are on the podcast shownotes page support the show through Patreon

Why "lethality maxim" is not a theory of victory and the Iranians know it "A focus on a gunfight is why we're in this strategic mess to begin with. There's no amount of successful engagements that will become strategically meaningful if you don't have a vision of victory." The NCTC resignation, its anti-Semitic undertones, and the hollowing out of American counterterrorism infrastructure "An institution that was designed to fix the leaks that gave rise to 9/11, staffed with extraordinary analytic capacity, started chasing the Sinaloa cartel." Whether Iran can strike the US homeland — and why the dog hasn't barked "Did we build a titanium golem that was really a clay monster? Did we dramatically overestimate this operational capacity?" The naval escort nightmare: how keeping the Strait open would consume the entire destroyer fleet and gut Pacific deterrence "If you do this escort operation, it's going to take every available destroyer on the East Coast and in Europe for the duration." DHS corruption, Corey Lewandowski's hundreds of millions, and why American grift has graduated to a new level "Even in somewhere like China, you still have to kind of hide it. On this third Sunday of Lent, Eric Robinson roots us in a spirituality of the wilderness. Eric reminds us of how anxiety spreads through systems and communities to scapegoat either one of the most powerful people in the group or the least powerful. He encourages us to resist the temptation to emotionally fuse with anxiety or to cut ourselves off, but to instead self-differentiate. We are encouraged to look at the Triune God and imitate being separate-together. Belonging in the Wilderness lays bare the tension between our vulnerable humanity… our desire to simply be, without hustling for worthiness or trying to fit in… and our longing for Beloved Community with our friends, family, neighbors, enemies, creation, and our Creator. The wilderness is an unavoidable part of this journey. It is where we abandon the game of dressing up like our mythical heroes and begin to uncover the mystery of our one wild and true self. A life so rooted in Divine Love, we find ourselves simultaneously set apart and intimately connected to God's global family. We rarely choose to go to the wilderness, where all our distractions and pretense evaporate. Yet the wilderness invites us to live together for what really matters, because here there is energy for little else. There are no shortcuts in the wilderness. It is a solitary journey, which we cannot walk alone. Reflection Questions: What is a triangle you see in your own life? Where might God be inviting you to more self-differentiation? How might you be involved in changing societal systems that are triangulating?

A talk with Eric Robinson, a recently retired Federal Bureau of Investigation agent and former pastor, about what actually works in real-world interrogations—and what doesn't. Drawing on 24 years in the FBI, Eric explains why techniques like friendliness and rapport are so powerful, discusses the use of silence to induce information-sharing, and talks about the importance of asking only a single question at a time. Eric also explains why he thinks nonverbal “body language” cues are not useful in law enforcement and interrogation settings. Other topics include: the reasons why so many people talk at length to police, despite it being so well known that you should ask for a lawyer; the downsides and risks of deceiving people to try to get information and confessions; some body language ideas discussed in Joe Navarro's books; Eric's opinions on the lie detector; and more. God's Love is in plain sight all around us, yet it seems so obscure. We may feel orphaned from homes where we once experienced spiritual vitality. Coercion and condemnation have left us on the streets looking for a better way. In John's gospel, Jesus' first words are, “What are you looking for?” and they're followed by an invitation to “come and see.” We aren't given certainty or a system to sell. We are invited to experience a common and awe-inspiring grace as we abide with Jesus. Where do people find transforming grace at Vox? What particular ways are we invited to embody Divine grace and invite others to experience this sustaining grace with us? In this second week of our series, Eric Robinson looks at how the early believers were scattered across the Mediterranean to different cultures and how God's grace was powerfully present as they realized God was not static, but rather widening circles of mercy and belonging. Reflection Questions: What are the signs marking your journey? Wher is the last time you saw one? Who are the bicultural people in your life who might have seen the markers you missed?
