During February 1864, Camp Sumter was opened in Macon County, Georgia. Camp Sumter came to be known as Andersonville, and that is what it is referred to still today. Of all the prisons we have featured on the podcast, Andersonville Prison might just be the worst. This prison was opened to house Union prisoners during the Civil War and to say that it was overcrowded would be an understatement. The amount of prisoners who lost their lives at this prison reaches into the several thousands. And the prison was not open for very long. These kinds of conditions and numbers of death usually lead to paranormal activity and there seems to be quite a bit of it going on here. Join us as we explore the history and hauntings of Andersonville Prison. The Money Wise guys kick off this week's episode with a reflection on last week's numbers from Wall Street. They report that the markets closed out May on a high note, with all three major indices posting solid weekly gains and even stronger monthly returns. The Dow rose 1.6%, the S&P 500 climbed 1.9%, and the NASDAQ led the charge with a 2% increase. For the month of May, the NASDAQ soared 9.6%, the S&P 500 jumped 6.2%, and the Dow finished up 3.9%. The team goes on to highlight the second revision of Q1 GDP and the latest core PCE reading—formerly the Fed's go-to inflation gauge. With year-over-year PCE now at 2.1%, the data suggests inflation is nearing the Fed's 2% target, igniting debate about when rate cuts may finally happen. However, the media continues its gloom-heavy narrative, with financial figures like Jamie Dimon casting shadows of stagflation and looming bond market stress, despite signs of economic resilience. Later in the show, the team does a deep dive into proper portfolio construction, because how your investments are structured can make or break your financial goals. A Gloomy Wall Street Despite the strong performance across the markets in May, Wall Street sentiment remains surprisingly downbeat. Financial media and major voices like Jamie Dimon continue to push cautionary narratives, raising concerns about stagflation, cracks in the bond market, and long-term economic risks. Even as inflation readings like the core PCE show progress toward the Fed's target, the tone from many in the financial world leans more pessimistic than the data might warrant. It's a reminder that headlines often lag reality, and that investors need to stay focused on facts, not fear. In the second hour, the Money Wise guys discuss Equity Index Annuities. You don't want to miss the details! I don't really want to have to start on a bum note, but if there is a thing that we do on the show, it's honesty. So let's be honest about it. What the Reserve Bank decision told you today is how much trouble our economy is in. If you're in business, you already know this and you don't need me to tell you this. I was talking to a couple of CEOs yesterday. They were telling me they cannot see the green shoots - we've been waiting. We were told - survive til '25, we're halfway through and we're still stuffed. Well, let me tell you what we got today. We got a 25 basis point cut. We needed 50 percent because that OCR is still too high. It's now sitting at 3.25 percent. It's probably actively still dampening our economic growth because I think the consensus is that 3 is neutral, and we're not there yet. But they could not give us a bigger cut today. And even they must realize how much damage they're doing, because they themselves have admitted that the economy is even more stuffed than they thought it was as recently as February, when they last met. Back in February, they predicted that in the first quarter of this year, we would have seen growth of 0.6 percent. They have revised that down to 0.4. This quarter that we're in right now, they forecast that we would be growing at 0.6 percent. They just halved that to 0.3 percent. Next quarter, they thought would be 0.5 percent. They've taken that down to 0.2 percent. That's not good. That's bad. And now, why couldn't they give us a bigger cut to help us along? Because they might set off inflation again if they do. We just saw a rise in inflation the other day, and there is potential for it to keep on creeping up. We've got dairy prices going up, we've got electricity prices going up, we've got rates going up - I could go on and on and on. The Budget that we just had last week is not super deflationary, is it? And their job at the Reserve Bank, remember, is not to help the economy grow. That is not their job. Their job is to contain inflation, and it's kind of borderline, and they can't take any chances there. Could we have a touch of the old stagflation back? No growth, prices going up? Feels a bit like that's a risk at the moment, isn't it? Now, I hope not, but 'I hope' is not a strategy. And yet, what else have we got left when even the Reserve Bank can't get out of the economy's way? LISTEN ABOVESee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

A meditation preached by Fr. Eric Nicolai on a day of recollection in Ernescliff College on May 11, 2025.I saw photos of Pope Leo XIV visiting Santa Maria Maggiore, praying in front of the Icon of Our Lady, Mother of God. She is showing us the child. She is showing us her son during the month of May when we have recourse to her.We can ask him to stir up the fire of our faith. Put little twigs and branches into the fire. The best twigs to get that faith raging is the devotion to our mother, as mother. It may be small now, but little aspirations, glances at images of our Lady are there to awaken something within us. Josemaria would as to “Stir up that fire of faith. Christ is not a figure that has passed. He is not a memory that is lost in history.” Mary seems to stir up devotion in us. She awakens our faith and makes us strong.Music: Michael Lee of Toronto.Thumbnail: Icon of Mary in Santa Maria Maggiore, Rome.

Donald Trump's decision to slap tariffs on global trade has sent the world reeling. Stock markets have tanked. Gloomy economists have hit the airwaves. Governments, their backs against the wall, have responded with either stoic resignation or threats of revenge. But it's business owners who find themselves at the centre of the storm. Steve in Boston, USA, runs a company whose flagship product contains three Chinese parts. He's concerned about the effect tariffs will have on his business and others at home. We also hear from business owners in Lesotho, India, Italy and Germany covering industries ranging from steel and spices to cheese and beer.

Joe Biden's shortcomings for the last 4 years hid the corrupt behavior of the NGO's to perpetrate the corruption. The Dems are now admitting to Biden's shortcomings and are speaking out. The US legal industry was already in a tough spot before President Donald Trump started attacking Big Law firms. Gloomy economic conditions and tariff-related uncertainty quickly tanked law firm leaders' expectations for a rebound that followed Trump's election. They're looking to stay off the president's target list in a wave of executive orders, while navigating a slowdown in deals activity and across practice groups. "From cautiously optimistic to cautious." That's how Gretta Rusanow described the mood shift she's seen in recent weeks among managing partners at some of the country's biggest law firms. Rusanow, the leader of Citigroup's law firm advisory group, says firms are feeling much more bearish now than at the end of last year. There's potential for an economic contraction, she says, and the fact that the huge revenue growth of prior years is now looking more like an aberration. Even as the country's elite firms come off of a record year for revenue and profits. Rusanow joins our podcast, On The Merits, to talk about why 2025 likely won't see the industry outperform its average growth numbers. She also tells Bloomberg Law reporter Roy Strom that any overachieving that does happen this year will likely flow toward just a handful of the largest firms. Description In letters and at ministry events, we often receive challenges mainly from skeptics trying to stump us by citing passages in the Bible about God killing, or ordering others to kill, ‘innocent’ people. But the Bible clearly presents a consistent narrative from Genesis to Revelation of God’s big picture plan for the salvation, redemption, and judgment of human beings. Jesus paid the penalty of sin for all who trust in Him, God is free to extend mercy to those who repent.
