With 70 Caps and 35 International Goals to her name, Sarah Walsh is one of the most formidable Matildas to ever play football for Australia. Sitting 5th on the All-time Matildas’ goal-scorers list, Walshy was as much of a weapon off the field as she was on it. Serving as a long-time member of the Professional Footballers Association and playing a pivotal role in helping the Tillies secure their first Collective Bargaining Agreement back in 2010. In that same year, she also lifted the Asian Cup and now, 16 years later, is working as Chief Operations Officer at the 2026 Women’s Asian Cup as the Tillies try to lift that iconic piece of silverware once again. Emily Gielnik has played more than 50 games for the Matildas, and counting.  It's a career that's so far included an Olympic Games and a FIFA World Cup. But her journey into that side was far from the textbook. In fact it was a school camp at the Australian Institute of Sport that started her footballing career, when her PE teacher asked if she could join in on a training session with the Matildas.  Fast forward and Emily made her debut with the Brisbane Roar at age 18. And then with the Australian Under-19s, where she scored a hat-trick on debut, and eventually with the Tillies a year later. After an extensive career around the world, Emily is back scoring goals at the Melbourne Victory. In her spare time she works with teammate Chloe Logarzo running Future Baller, clinics designed to equip young girls with holistic football skills and mental strength. The FIFA Women's World Cup kicks off tonight, with the Matildas playing Ireland in Sydney. The 83,500-capacity Stadium Australia is completely sold out, making it one of the biggest crowds in the history of women's football. But, as the game's popularity explodes and the players cement themselves as household names, the Matildas are still fighting for basic rights – like equal pay.
