Interview by Angela CroudaceMelbourne's burgeoning music scene is buzzing with the emergence of Druid, a band turning heads with their unique sound blending and captivating performances. Guitarist Daeyul Baggins discussed the band's journey, their new single Chokehold, and their distinctive musical influences."We started a few years back under a different name," Daeyul explains, recounting the band's evolution. "We released an EP and then realised we were heading in a different direction musically. So, we decided to rebrand ourselves as Druid." This change allowed the band to redefine their sound and connect deeper with their musical identity.Regarding the name "Druid," Daeyul admits there isn't a profound story behind it. "We just couldn't agree on anything else! Someone suggested Druid, and we all liked it." Despite the lack of a backstory, the name resonates well with their musical ethos."We're inspired by bands like Thornhill, Alpha Wolf, and Bring Me The Horizon," says Daeyul. "When writing our songs, we try to channel that vibe." These influences, combined with a relentless drive to push sonic boundaries through the fusion of rap and metal, create a familiar and innovative sound. The band members have deep roots in music. Daeyul himself started out playing guitar but found his calling on the drums before ultimately transitioning to guitar. "My parents wouldn't let me get a drum set, so I started with guitar," he shares. "But once I got behind the kit, I realised I had a natural knack for it."Chokehold is their latest release, produced by Sam Yates, known for his work with Aussie band Dregg. Daeyul explains the creative process: "We recorded it about a year ago. Our drummer Alex wrote the demo, and we were thrilled when Sam liked it enough to work with us." The accompanying music video, directed by Martin Wood, showcases a unique blend of heavy music and pole dancing, capturing the skill and artistry involved. "We wanted to show the talent behind pole dancing, not just the suggestive aspects," he emphasises.Druid is also making waves with their collaborations. They teamed up with the talented Misstiq, who contributed a lo-fi remix of their song DTHBLW. "She was really into the idea, and her remix turned out amazing," Daeyul notes. "It's great to see different genres blending together."When asked about future aspirations, Daeyul shares their excitement for what lies ahead. "We have another track ready for release early next year, and we're supporting Outer Worlds in November. There's a lot coming up, and we can't wait to share it with everyone."As a band that's managed to weave different genres into their music while staying true to their heavy roots, Druid is poised to stamp their mark on the Aussie metal scene and beyond. With their fresh approach and dedication to artistry, they are certainly a band to watch. For fans of nu-metal and those looking for something different, Druid is a name that will soon be on everyone's lips. Be sure to check out Chokehold and keep an eye out for their upcoming releases. The future looks bright for this Melbourne band, and it's clear that Druid is just getting started.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

Interview by Kris Peters*interview contains some language that may be offensive to some readers/listeners*Since bursting onto the scene in 2015, Melbourne noise machine Dregg have been a musical force unto themselves, throwing an eclectic mix of genres against the wall and making cherry pie with the resulting residue.Their music has always been ferocious, confronting, and, most importantly, different, with a fearless blend of elements of metal, hardcore, rap, and electronic music, crafting a sound that embodies their bold, no-rules attitude. But just when you thought it was safe to go back into the moshpit, Dregg return with a new lineup, increased energy and more metal in the form of new single Dog Cunts. It is a vicious, snarling slab of music that hints at the slightly newer direction Dregg will be taking with more upcoming music.New guitarist Zak Thom sat down with HEAVY to talk more, starting with the early response to the track that came out on May 17."(It's been) Great, actually," he enthused. "I honestly had no idea how it was going to go, because it's my first time being in a band that's had this much reach. So I'm fully just gauging off everything Chris (Mackertich, vocalist) says (laughs)."We ask if he attributes much of that positive response to the use of the suddenly popular C word in the title."Yeah, definitely," he laughed. "If you look at the comments that have been popping up, people are saying 'Dog Cunts, are these guys Aussie?' I feel like it's such a draw. Even when we sent it to our managers over in America, they loved it immediately. Just the fact it says Dog Cunts which is such an Aussie term."In the full interview, Zak talked more about the release of their new single Dog Cunts and the positive response it has received. He also talked about their upcoming album, which will feature heavier and more experimental elements, and their intention to explore diverse musical genres. He discussed the visual concept and storyline of the music video for Dog Cunts and the potential release date and the working title of the next album.Additionally, Zak introduced himself as one of the new band members and discussed Dregg's unique mix of music genres and their process of pushing boundaries in their music. He also talked about the band's upcoming show and how the addition of new members and a slightly more aggressive sound will alter the live performances.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

Good Things Festival not only brings Australian music fans a feast of international talent for their annual December listening pleasure, but they also showcase the best in established and rising local talent as well. Not just with the bands named on the initial bill but also by way of a unique and unexpected finale to the line-up that involved local bands in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane facing off for one last spot in each city.It is a bittersweet situation. On the one hand, it pits mates against each other in a show of public popularity that reflects on the groundwork put in by bands on all levels, but on the other, it is a concept that has to be taken seriously by participating bands with such a prestigious and potentially career starting prize up for grabs.Brisbane winners Apate deservedly take their place on stage just after midday this Sunday, December 4, after emerging triumphant in last week's final. Now, with the competition stage of the journey now behind them, the Brisbane metal outfit can focus on the big stage, with vocalist Zakk Ludwig and guitarist Caleb Patch joining HEAVY to talk about their path to Good Things. We start by asking if they feel they are ready to rise to the challenge of mixing it with the big boys."We're ready brother, trust me," Ludwig said confidently. "We've been looking forward to it for a long time, so we're ready. We're hungry to play. We wanna play, so…""We're used to playing a lot of small rooms and stuff," Patch took over, "but I think our set has the energy to hopefully take a couple of people that haven't seen us and make them think 'oh, I'd love to come see that again'."Although the whole experience will be unlike anything some bands never get a chance to experience, even smaller things like stage sizing has to come into consideration. Bands at the local level are generally used to playing on smaller, indoor stages, so the shift to a massive outdoor expanse is something that can't be overlooked."We actually have experienced something similar to this before," Patch offered. "We won the chance to play a festival when we were first starting out as a band - it was called the Live It Up Festival - and Apate got the chance to open up the festival and In Hearts Wake played and Parkway Drive played. Violent Soho were there… it was a pretty cool experience. That was when we were really young, and we ended up playing to… 3000 kids showed up super early to watch us play which was mental. We did well then, and I think we've been touring quite heavily the last few years as a band with several months playing back to back shows, so I think we're definitely ready. We all play off each other quite well in that sense."In the full interview, the boys talk more about the heats in the lead-up to last week's final, the feeling amongst the other bands, who they are looking forward to sharing the stage with, tailoring set lists to suit crowds, Good Things' focus on Australian music, the deluxe release of their recent album RAGE, heading back into the studio, next year's tour with Dregg and more.
Sydney post hardcore outfit HEISTS epitomize the working spirit of the typical Australian. With a firm DIY ethos the band hit the ground running and full of momentum with their first two singles Outrage and Revenant, laying the platform for debut EP Disquiet and announcing the band as something special on the local market.Wasting little time, Heists have recently released their debut album, Troubled Souls, plus announced an Australian tour as main support to DREGG, further cementing their growing reputation.Vocalist Chris Zagas and bass player Sean Nevin joined HEAVY to discuss a fruitful start to 2022 for Heists."Our sound... we don't really try to stick to one kind of thing,” Zagas measured. “From start to finish, it will start heavy, then there's a melodic section smack in the middle, then we have a song that pays to all the bands we used to froth for, and that's about it.""It was definitely a combination of the influences that we were listening to at the time,” Nevin added. “There was a phase when we were writing the record where we were like, the albums not riffy enough! And then we had these soft, melodic songs, and we said six months before that we had written a lot of riffy songs so why not smash them all together? I suppose that's Troubled Souls musically."In the full interview, the boys dive deeper into Troubled Souls, discuss the underlying theme, talk about developing their sound, give more details on the upcoming tour with Dregg and more.

Australian music is on the rise. With the world around us locked out and international bands no longer on the immediate touring circuit, music fans are being forced to look into our homegrown talent more than ever and the results are showing. Not only are our emerging bands receiving more exposure, but some of our seasoned campaigners are also benefitting from local interest.More recognizable bands like Frenzal Rhomb, Grinspoon and The Superjesus are back on the touring wheel and slaying it with each performance, but other bands from that era – that are just as good but not as much in the media spotlight – are also finding a resurgence in popularity. One of those is Tumbleweed who this year celebrate 30 years in the Australian music industry. It is a milestone shared by the above bands and more, and one which is richly deserved for Tumbleweed who have always maintained a strong presence despite never quite reaching the same heights. Tumbleweed will be touring as part of the Uncaged Festival early next year, joining Magic Dirt, Kingswood, The Getaway Plan, The Superjesus, Tumbleweed, Bodyjar, End Of Fashion, The Hard Ons, The Meanies and Twelve Foot Ninja plus a host of rising bands such as Psycroptic, These Four Walls, Dregg and Lagerstein.Front man Richie Lewis joined HEAVY to discuss Uncaged and 30 years as a rock band."Yeah I am,” he beamed when I mention they must be looking forward to sharing the stage with their mates again – old and new. “We sort of feel like we're arrows that have been pulled back on a bow waiting to be released. That's how we feel. It's a real cool festival. I like how it's diverse. It's got old people like us and some of my great friends like The Hard Ons, The Meanies and Magic Dirt, and it's got a whole bunch of young uns as well which I'm looking forward to. I think that's a great thing about festivals full stop is I'm always surprised by something so I'm looking forward to seeing some of the other stuff as well."With a well balanced line-up of the past, present, and future, it could be easy to see festivals such as Uncaged as something of a changing of the guard, but as Lewis points out is could also be something far more simple."Or an appreciation of rock as a genre,” he smiled. “A celebration of all of it and what we've got in this country at the moment. Most of those bands... The Hard Ons just put out a fantastic album, Meanies are always putting out something. Magic Dirt, us, we're still alive and we're still putting out stuff so I think it's really cool we aren't being caught up in this trap of being something for the latest up and coming thing and being on the cool crew or whatever. They want to spread their wings wide and brought in everything that they like about Australian music."In the full interview, Richie tells us who he is most looking forward to playing with at Uncaged, bringing through the next generation of music, the fact it is a 100% Australian line-up, celebrating 30 years as a band, Tumbleweed's new singles box set which comes out on November 26, their anniversary run of shows and more.

Turtle Soup: The Ongoing Journey of The TMNT, From the Beginning.
Greetings Turtletarians! Welcome to our most monumentous 268th episode of Turtle Soup Podcast! This episode marks the end of our coverage concerning the 1987 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Animated Series as herein we review the 8th and final episode of season 10 as well as the series as a whole, entitled "divide and conquer!" Not gonna lie... This hit us hard. This cartoon was fundamental to not only our individual lives, but pop culture in general. More specifically, this show was one of the main impetuses behind us starting this podcast! I believe prior to the starting the podcast, I (Eazy) had attempted to watch all of the episodes but could only make it into about season 3 before I gave up. So, crossing this herculean task off our bucket lists is a huge deal. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles end their inaugural animated series with a solid banger! The TMNT find themselves in the midst of a battle with an unknown alien threat. The struggle ends with this alien who we named "Roach Daddy," teleports away right before the turtles can pressure them for any answers. Before beaming away, Roach Daddy swipes Leo's belt and peace's out, leaving the TMNT perplexed and needing answers. We find out that Roach Daddy essentially was a contestant in a little bar game that is being put on by none other than Lord Dregg. He's attempting to find anyone who can go toe to toe with the TMNT for at least 90 seconds and make it back with a souvenir. Fast forward a bit and Dregg has his 5 best fighters that consist of C3PNO, Devils Lettuce, Roach Daddy, Gora, and Sweet Potatoes (all names given by Turtle Soup respectfully). Dregg stops by Mung's micro(bot)brewery that is breeding the microbots for the invasion force or something like that. Dregg demands that he be given some microbots to make a suit of armor to battle the TMNT. Mung says no because they need all the microbots to continue preparation for the invasion. Dregg just starts blasting and hits one of the containers filled with microbots. He scoops them up and heads out to the tune of Mung yelling that he's gone mad, thus, presumably, ending Dregg and Mungs relationship. We then see Dregg revealing his newly created suit of armor "The Morphogenesis Exoskeleton" to his new friends. Upon donning his new apparel, Dregg reveals that the 5 "xbox logos" on his chest actually open up to reveal Doctor Octopus arms that grip the 5 warriors and then Dregg proceeds to steal their "abilities." After acquiring the new abilities, Dregg makes his way to Earth and summons the TMNT to test out his new abilities. Basically, the Morphogenesis Exoskeleton gives him Ant-Man powers. He can also grow another set of arms, morph into a ball of clay and roll around, has X-ray vision sorta, and can also do some robot android things. He displays all of this against the turtles and gets them to run into the sewers. This eventually leads to Dregg punching down through the street and the TMNT flooding the sewers to cause enough pressure to send him flying away. The TMNT decide they need to get Krang's Android Body from Dimension X and more specifically The Technodrome! Donatello brings out the ole portable portal generator and while setting it up, Lord Dregg appears on its tiny monitor and informs us that he's captured April O'Neil in her apartment and to come get her. Raph and Leo go get April. Don and Mikey go get Krang's Android Body. The fight with Dregg in April's apartment is pretty funny, as the TMNT true to form, rope-a-dope Dregg into freezing the floor with liquid nitrogen and falling through. The turtles and April make their escape in the Turtle Van with Dregg in motorcycle form in hot pursuit. They end up at a junkyard and Dregg starts to use the compactor on them. Meanwhile, in Dimension X, Don and Mike find the Technodrome in utter disrepair and currently occupied by some weird android men and a phony Krang's Android Body.
Turtle Soup: The Ongoing Journey of The TMNT, From the Beginning.
Greetings Turtletarians! This episode of Turtle Soup Podcast was live streamed on September 30th, 2021. In this episode, we review episode 7 "The Day The Earth Disappeared," which is the penultimate of the 1987 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Animated Series' 10th and final season. This is a bitter sweet moment for your deep diving daddies here at Turtle Soup. We've spent countless hours watching, notating, and reviewing these episodes and here we are at the end of another monumental chapter in our journey, not only for the TMNT but for pop culture in general. As with the actual main plot of the episode, this one kinda sucks. So, basically, Lord Dregg and Mung plan to bring Earth to Dimension X as they believe that they are always losing because they are playing on the enemy's turf. The baddies create a vortex or warp or portal or something to Dimension X. However, the portal needs time to grow big enough to fully take in the entire Earth. They then create a blackhole to suck the Earth into the portal to Dimension X. This causes minor damage to things on Earth but it is enough to trigger the TMNT's early warning systems. Donatello discovers what's happening and coincidentally happens to have finally fixed his portable portal generator. They turn it on and are immediately met with the sucking force of the blackhole. Leo and Don are the first to succumb to the pull of the hole through the portable portal generator as is Splinter. This leaves Michaelangelo and Raphael hanging on to Michaelangelo's grappling hook for dear life. At the same time across town, we have April O'Neil enjoying a cool evening with the windows open and indulging in some sweet sweet 90's internet when all of a sudden she experiences the effects of the blackhole. She instinctively heads to the lair after making a FaceTime call with the Turtles where they basically inform her that they're in trouble too. We find that Leonardo and Donatello end up on some weird planet in Dimension X and have to fight some rock creature that's appendages protrude from the ground and hold them captive. Splinter however gets transported to the Dreggnaught after Mung initiates something in an attempt to expedite the process. Upon arriving, Splinter immediately goes into ninja rat survival dad mode and is probably one of the only redeeming parts of this episode. He makes his way through the Dreggnaught, finding the "invasion force" of suited up batmen and then continues on his way through the ship. April O'Neil shows up to the lair where Michaelangelo and Raphael are still hanging on but almost immediately let go once they see her, and allow themselves to be sucked into the portable portal generator. This leaves April to figure this problem out. Michaelangelo and Raphael are sent to a similar but different place in Dimension X. They fight a giant fire breathing devil dinosaur and then are able to flee to another place in Dimension X where they fight a giant snow ape like creature and then run away. Back in the lair, April O'Neil is able to do something to the portable portal generator. Splinter eventually gets caught by Dregg but is able to trigger the portal to bring Leonardo and Donatello to the Dreggnaught. They fight. Then April opens the portal and Michaelangelo and Raphael arrive in the Dreggnaught and Splinter rushes them with Leonardo and Donatello in tow and make it back to the lair through the portal. This leaves Dregg, Mung and all the batmen to be sucked into the blackhole. The episode ends with the TMNT back in the lair sometime later watching the news not give them their due recognition for stopping the global disaster. Donatello informs them that he's fixed the portable portal generator and turns it on. Immediately a giant monstrous hand comes through and the turtles throw their weapons at the machine to destroy it. What did you think of this second to last episode of the entire se...

Here we get introduced to Professor Huxley and his protein computer, that would have totally been featured on Channel 6's "Highly Desired Technological Showcase" segment prior to the channels demise in red skies. Nevertheless, the news of this technology has reached the ears of some villainous mobsters as well as the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Donatello. Both of whom are attending a symposium on the device at the same time. Professor Huxley demonstrates the uses of his protein computer by turning off the lights and what not. A shakedown takes place and the TMNT are able to prevent the theft. This failure results in the mobsters returning to their base to face their boss, The Globfather, an anthropomorphic being of slime that, as far as we know, has some shape shifting abilities and can expose others to his slime and turn them into beings like himself or at least cover them in slime. The rules of his powers are not ever fully explained. We then get introduced to Professor Huxley's son, Ronnie, who, throughout this entire episode is basically ignored and brushed aside by every adult. He for some reason has made it into a highly defended science facility unbeknownst to anyone, even his father. His presence is made known by means of his remote control car. The Globfather shows up with his mobster goons and they are able to thwart the security of the science facility as well as the TMNT who show up eventually. The Globfather procures the protein computer and Professor Huxley albeit sans the slab of protein that is essential for the device to function. The TMNT review some security footage and discover Professor Huxley places the protein in Ronnie's backpack. This eventually leads to everyone finding out that Ronnie has the protein piece of the puzzle and all parties are in pursuit of the boy and his backpack. This leads to a show down with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and The Globfather's mobsters who have Ronnie cornered. The TMNT make short work of the mobsters but then have to deal with The Globfather. After a little bit of fighting and running, The Globfather is able to acquire the boy and the backpack but leaves the boy dangling from a fire escape and takes off with the backpack containing the protein piece. Now that The Globfather has all the pieces of the device, he contacts his boss for further instruction. None other than Lord Dregg himself is the mastermind behind this plan and reveals that he's trying to use this device to take over all the major cities of the world. The Globfather eventually puts on the helmet of the protein computer and uses it to wreck some stuff around the city and takes control of the Turtle Van. The turtles destroy the computer system in the van and then take take Ronnie (who is unphased by the TMNT in any capacity) to their lair. There they create a helmet that could rival the original. The TMNT and Ronnie make their way to the National Phone Switching Network building where Dregg and The Globfather are taking control of satellites and threatening the League of Nations. The TMNT drop in through a skylight and rope a dope the baddies leaving Donatello to match whits with Dregg's ability to use the protein computer via their helmets. This results in the inevitable win for the TMNT resulting in The Globfather being sucked up by some vacuum car and Dregg taking him and his mobsters back to the Dreggnaught in Dimension X. What did you think of The Globfather? Have you ever been considered a "mobster?" Are you a Ronnie or a Donnie?

Greetings Turtletarians! This 265th episode of Turtle Soup Podcast was live streamed on September 16th, 2021 and we reviewed the 1987 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Animated Series Season 10, Episode 5 entitled "Turtles to the Second Power!" We also read a few emails and give some more details about our very own (and first iirc) "Ryan's Radically Rewatchable Rerun Raffle!" This episode finds our heroes on the receiving end of the life transfusion that the TMNT from the past were brought to the present to provide. This takes... 15 hours apparently. After the 15 hours have passed and all 8 Turtles are back in tip top shape they head out to take care of some small disturbance in the form of a "Robot Chicken Invasion Force" that took Dregg and Mung around... 15 hours to manufacture. No big deal. So, Carter decides to split the team up and have the TMNT from the past stay and deal with the Robot Chicken Invasion Force and the TMNT of the present go with him to take care of Dregg. During this time, Shredder and Krang are walking around the streets of New York planning their revenge on Dregg. They come up with a plan that involves Krang using his "mental brain powers" that apparently allow him to hypnotize weak-minded individuals for about 30 minutes. They decide on capturing one of Mung's Batmen, who happen to just be in the same area as them, and so using the ancient foot clan art of "try to shoot me and miss and hit this other thing that falls on top of you," Shredder and Krang now have their hypnotized Batman. They get him to treat them as captives. They head to the power plant and then try to fool Dregg with a bogus chip but get ratted out by Dregg's Krang brain. Just then the TMNT show up and fighting ensues. This ends in Dregg seemingly winning the fight and then enacts his plan to bring a little piece of the sun into all the major cities of the world. He then calls the "league of nations" to make his demands and they just laugh him off and say they don't deal with fake threats. Turns out, while the fighting was happened, Donny T does some machines and basically rigs the computers virtual reality simulator to make Dregg think his plan had worked. Mean while, April O'Neil is trying to get the help of the local authorities but they apparently are too busy to care. The TMNT from the past are rope-a-doping the Robot Chicken Invasion Force and manage to commandeer one of them and head back to the power plant. Splinter is just chillin in the lair when Landor and Merrick finally show up. Oh I forgot to mention that there was a subplot of "will the future cops be able to make it back in time to take the past TMNT back to the past from the future because we can't get the internet to bounce a signal off a star to the future to let them know that the present day TMNT have received a successful transfusion of live force from the TMNT of the past and they are pretty much no longer needed..." At the power plant, more fighting is about to take place when the TMNT from the past burst through the wall with the Robot Chicken Invasion Force machine and then are quickly dismantled by Dregg's microbots. Then more fighting happens and then the Donatello's are able to reconfigure the transport machine and basically send all that remains of Dregg's Robot Chicken Invasion Force from wrecking all the major cities around the world to a remote asteroid in space... basically sentencing them to space prison death. And then the Donatello's turn Dregg's plan against him by sending a piece of the sun into the Dreggnaught, thus enacting a death sentence on all of its crew and then they end up sending Dregg, Mung and the rest of the Batmen up there as well. Shredder and Krang are presumably sent back to Dimension X but its not very clear. The 8 TMNT and Carter all book it out of the nuclear power plant as its about to blow due to some weird connection with the Dreggnaughts transport device and the ...

Greetings Turtletarians! In this episode we take a look at some TMNT toy news from Neca and Playmates as well as discuss the announcement from Mirage Licensing. Finally, we take an in-depth look at Episode 4 of Season 10 of the 1987 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Animated Series - "A Turtle In Time!" Starting things off with a highlight in the way of NECA announcing they reached an agreement with Stan Sakai enabling them to make action figures of Sakai's signature samurai rabbit, Usagi Yojimbo! We take a look at some of the previous Usagi Yojimbo action figures that we've got in past TMNT toy lines, how he appears in the 87 animated series and compared them to the 3d rendered image NECA released to the press. This is looking to be the best Usagi Yojimbo figure we've ever seen! The hype is real here at Turtle Soup! And then the hype train comes to an abrupt halt with Playmates reveal of their TMNT vs series, starting off with a Cobra Kai crossover. We discuss the popularity of Cobra Kai and how this concept is kind of cool, but then quickly turn to talking about how Playmates seem to be missing the mark with their repeated use of nearly a decade old sculpts of the TMNT figures from their classics line. Lastly, for the news, we discuss the formal announcement of the official dissolving of Mirage Licensing and what witnessing this means to life long TMNT fans. Finally, we get to the meat of the episode with our review of Episode 4 "A Turtle In Time" of Season 10 of the 1987 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Animated Series. This is the climax to a 3 part story where Dregg and Mung finally execute their plan to drain the TMNT of their "ninja abilities" and as a bonus, due to their newly discovered punk rock attitude, Shredder and Krang have been added to the Dregg's brain drain cocktail. However, Dregg greatly underestimated the cleverness of the Shredder, who is able to escape and take his emaciated "friend" Krang with him back to Earth and find a way to restore him to full health by giving of his own energy through a transfusion! An act that shows so much growth and maturity from two tired and played out characters that found them revitalized and renewed, leaving us (at least us here at Turtle Soup) wanting more! The turtles eventually escape with the help of Carter and Splinter who bounced a message from the internet off a star to our friends from the future, Landor and Merrick, who hear and respond by returning to the present to then return to the past and recruit the past TMNT to assist them in the rescuing of the present day TMNT. April manages to get the present day Turtles out of their cells and eventually meets up with Carter and the past TMNT and with their powers combined, are able to yeet Dregg into another room, giving them enough time to escape the Dreggnaught and make it back to Earth only to be confronted with the weird metal monstrosity that Mung used the microbes to create. How are the turtles gonna get out of this one? Why would Dregg think that a giant robot would be a threat to a team of mutant ninjas who have spent most of their lives destroying giant robots? Were you happy to see Landor and Merrick again or meh? Have you ever bounced a message off a star to the future from the internet? Lettuce know what you think! Here is Episode 263 of our Podcast Turtle Soup! This was live streamed on Thursday 8/26/2021 at 8pm EST. On this episode we review the 1987 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Animated Series Season 10 Episode 3 - "The Power of Three." We also have some news in the way of April O'Neil herself as a playable character in the upcoming beat em up video game, Shredder's Revenge! This episode of the Animated Series, ushers in the return of the original antagonists of the show Shredder and Krang, when Dregg hear's tale of two villains from Dimension X who tangled with the Turtles from Mung and decides to use their transporter to bring them back to Earth and assist in their scheme's against the TMNT. However, Shredder and Krang do not play well with others who think they are on their level or above. Carter finally decides to accept the cure for his mutation and then takes off presumably back to college. April finds herself at a new job or at the very least with a paycheck from a different news outlet than Channel 6. She gets stuck in traffic only to find herself unwillingly the chauffeur for Shredder and Krang who are in the process of fleeing Mung who is pursuing them from a ship above as they violently rejected Dregg's alliance offer. The Turtles home gets flooded as a result of the power it took Mung and Dregg to bring Shredder and Krang from Dimension X that basically blacked out the city and effected the sewage system as well. They eventually find Splinter and then immediately gets the distress call from April. They eventually catch up to April, Shredder and Krang still running from Mung. High speed car chase / car rooftop ninja action ensues. Eventually, our heroes and villains find themselves transported to Dregg. Fighting continues and this results in Dregg getting the upper hand and puts April in an electrified cage while the TMNT are placed in some sort of cryochamber and declared his intentions with the captured Turtles and their now mutual antagonist Shredder and Krang. Come hang out and join our discussions on the episode and other stuff like: Were you happy to see Krang and Shredder back? Why were the TMNT scared of water? Do you ship Shredder and Krang like we do? How creepy is too creepy for touchy uncles? Do you prefer Dregg and Mung over Shredder and Krang? Are the TMNT better off with or without Carter? Is this the first time we've seen a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, whistle? Do Ninja Turtles dream of Ninja Sheep? Let us know your answers in the comments or email us at turtlesoupshow@gmail.com Lastly, we mention the "Win Ryan's 87 Turtle Van Dvd Set" raffle/contest! On this 262nd episode of the Turtle Soup Podcast, we review the 1987 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Animated Series - Season 10 - Episode 2 "The Beginning of the End" from Sept 21st 1996. This episode finds the TMNT still dealing with Leonardo's "hyper mutation" brought on by Dregg's Microbots disrupting the power to the lair during an attempted cure for their unstable mutations from episode 1 of this season. Donny tries yet again to cure Leo of his hyper mutation and appears to be successful however Leo starts to feel sick again and the other Turtles (namely Raphael), are ruthless in their needless bullying of him. Carter is still lamenting that he is still uncured of his mutation as well. All the while, the baddies are continuing their schemes to further mutate the turtles out of existence. In order to accomplish this Dregg needs some materials that they don't have at the moment so Mung suggests Plutonium as an alternative. We see hyper mutated Leo hit the streets again and this time destroys a hockey arena. We also get to witness more of April's apathetic attitude toward doing any TMNT related stories for the news anymore. On top of that, we get to see her fawn of the wonders of the internet and its glorious ability to allow her to research stories. Stories about carjackings and how to determine who, what, when, where, and why the next one will take place. Dregg gets the Plutonium. April hides in a car that gets stolen, in an attempt to get into a chop shop (an attempt that is successful, surprisingly). Dregg shows up at the chop shop and uses the microbots to transform it into a... science base? Leo is potentially "cured" but quickly is informed that he's nuclear! Can the Turtles prevent Leo from exploding and taking a chunk of New York with him? Will this be the Turtle story that breaks April's back? Why is there a room full of animals in cages and 1 loose gorilla? Will we see "Otto Wrecker" ever again? Will Carter walk away and go to college this time? Is breaking into a facility to steal plutonium as easy as cartoons make it seem? All this and more to be discussed on Episode 262 of Turtle Soup Podcast, live streamed every Thursday at 8pm EST! https://www.turtlesoupshow.com Help keep The Foot Clan from destroying the show: Tipping: https://streamelements.com/turtlesoupshowpodcast/tip Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/turtlesoupshow Greetings Turtletarians! This is Episode 261 of our Podcast Turtle Soup, that was live streamed on Thursday 8/12/2021 at 8pm EST. And so begins our journey's steps toward the bitter sweet "beginning of the end" part of our trek through the entire history of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, as we start our review of the 1987 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Animated Series, Season 10, Episode 1 "The Return of Dregg!" We last left our heroes still appearing on CBS and in what is referred to as the "Red Skys" of New York City. They have finally locked Krang, Shredder, Bebop and Rocksteady and the rest of the Foot Clan in Dimension X, dealt with the mutant cult H.A.V.O.K. and its leader Titanus, quickly dismissed the lackluster threat of Doomquest while simultaneously disgracing the would be alien dictator Lord Dregg and sent him packing. If that wasn't enough, the turtles have to deal with their unstable mutations manifesting themselves at the worst times, as well as having to search for a remedy to them. Helping the turtles is their new friend Carter, who has joined the team in hopes of training under Splinter's tutelage (or so he claims.). April O'Neil, is still around but is very much different from how we remember her from the seasons leading up to the "red skys." Now, in season 10, we find the Turtles and Carter on the precipice of a cure to their unstable mutations. However, while they've been making headway toward a remedy, Lord Dregg has made his way back to Earth. This time he has banished his second in command, The Hi-Tech to a mission out in space, and replaced him with a new character named Mung. Along with Mung comes new henchmen that look sort of like a variation of some red para demons. In this episode, all the turtles besides Leo, get their mutations seemingly cured. While Leo's mutation evolves into more of a monstrous form. Carter feels like he's to blame for this and attempts to walk away from the turtles and splinter and contemplates going to college lol. There are microbots that are the creation of Mung that can replicate themselves and in mass, they can disassemble material objection and reassemble them however they are directed. There's also a crystal that can be replicated from just a shard of it to make an exact copy of it and its properties as well. Come hang out and join our discussions on the episode and other stuff like: Would you choose Mung over Hi-Teck, like Dregg did or nah? How does the TMNT's virtual reality tests work? Did you like Mikey and Leo's further mutations? Have you warmed up to Carter or really hope he goes away to college? Have you enjoyed the red skies seasons of the animated series or do you prefer blue skies? Were you disappointed to see Dregg return, especially after the end of Season 9? All this and more to be discussed on Episode 261 of Turtle Soup Podcast, live streamed every Thursday at 8pm EST! Let us know your thoughts by emailing us at Turtlesoupshow@gmail.com Elsetime!
Melbourne heavy outfit Dregg are a band that is not only constantly evolving, but also one that are dragging more people into their zany and fun-fuelled world seemingly with each passing breath.Their energetic and carefree approach to music while constantly blurring the lines between musical genres is almost groundbreaking in its intensity, with the band not just proclaiming their intent to fly against acceptable parameters, but proving it time and time again with the release of each new and engrossing body of music. To the uninitiated, Dregg are what could be deemed an experimental metal outfit, but only experimental in terms of a unique mashing of genres to create a sound that often shouldn't work, but somehow always does.Their live show is said to be next level and the band should be readying themselves right now to prove that fact with a tour kicking off in Brisbane next week but as we all know in the modern age a little thing called COVID has the ability to turn even the most meticulous of plans on its head.Enigmatic frontman Chris Mackertich joined HEAVY for a chat about new music from the band as well as their upcoming tour and the current perilous landscape that threatens it."We dropped another song yesterday,” he began. “That's what we're doing at the moment, we're just dropping songs as regularly as we can but Internet's cool. We got to do a video for that one and it was super weird and different. We got to talk about the positives and negatives of the internet and social media and stuff, not in that cringy way, but we wanted to talk about it more from a realistic sense of what it is and how shit it can be. We decided to do a tour around it because it was definitely a song that struck the vibe of 2020 for us."With the tour scheduled to start in Brisbane on June 11 – and less than 24 hours after the potential easing of Melbourne's lockdown procedures – Mackertich is bracing himself for the seemingly inevitable."It's looking grim,” he admitted. “It looks like some dates might stay where they are and some dates might move but we still have to work things out and figure what's going to happen because everything is so unpredictable. Venues are obviously booked out months in advance and pray that things like this don't happen so we'll have to see what we can put together and announce rescheduled dates as soon as we know."In the full interview, Chris talks about Dregg's new songs, their plan to release a steady but constant stream of music, booking tours in the present climate and the risks associated with that, signing to Epitaph Records and the importance of retaining creative control of the band and more.

Melbourne quintet Dregg are a band on the rise. With a powerful musical message unlike anything else heard from Australian shores, Dregg pack a punch akin to a sledgehammer strike, mixing a don’t-give-a-fuck attitude with current lyrics and upbeat disposition to create a genre ultimately their own despite drawing on influences from hardcore, heavy and rap elements. After nearly six months of relative silence for a band who love to be in the limelight, Dregg return with new single “Evolve”, a timely nod to energy drinks and the potentials pitfalls that come with mass consumption.Vocalist Chris Mackertich caught up with HEAVY on the eve of the single to release to introduce us to the world according to Dregg. We start by asking him to give a brief overview of Dregg as a band."I guess Dregg is like an experimental hardcore band,” he measured, “where we're trying to push the limits with not just what you can do with the sound of hardcore but what you can do with the ideas behind it; the way you present yourself; the visual... I dunno, we just approach it from a whole new perspective. A lot of us grew up on hardcore, especially going to shows, and that's the primary genre for everyone. We loved it as kids but as we've gotten older we had other influences that we wanted to bring into it and that's what we've made. It's a band that's very focused around where the worlds currently at. We're never really speaking too much on the past, we just like to comment on where the worlds at socially."“Evolve” is yet another catchy as fuck tune from the band, with Mackertich admitting it is a song that contains all of the elements for which the band is known for."Basically, it's a hybrid song,” he offered. “We love a lot of hip hop, we love a lot of rap and everything but we wanted to experiment with beat flipping; we wanted to experiment with taking the hardcore element of the song and take hardcore as far as we could push it and then taking the hip hop part as far that way as we could. Lyrically we wanted to fuck around with a lot of wordplay - I did a lot of that in this one, I love doing that sort of shit. We wanted to push both ends of the spectrum as far as we could and see what it made."In the full interview, Chris runs us through the song in greater detail, talks about the film clip and working for the first time with a director, the difficulties the band has faced during COVID and how they have responded, future music, their political stance (or lack thereof), Dregg’s musical mission statement and more.
