Dr. Sabrina invited Steve Bousquet back to the show to hear more about how he has grown his team from twelve team members to twenty-seven team members over the last few years using strategies that are taught in Dr. Sabrina’s How to Hire the Best book series. Today, Steve shares his entrepreneurial story, his highs and lows when it comes to building a team, and how he has had to grow personally in order to grow his team. If you’re needing some ideas on how to attract and retain the A-players to your business that will help give you your life back, you’ll want to listen in to this inspiring and insightful conversation! Steve’s story is included in Dr. Sabrina’s newest book, How to Hire the Best: The Entrepreneur's Ultimate Guide to Attracting Top-Performing Team Members, which just published November 18th, 2020! Don’t miss it! Steve Bousquet, a blue-collar executive, founded S&B Lawn and Garden Care in 1983 while in high school. Graduating from college with a BA in Economics, Steven continued operating his landscape company with the new name American Landscape Service. Steven added Lawn Science to the company in 1991 to form American Landscape and Lawn Science LLC. In recent years, Steve has grown his team from 12 team members to 27 team members, using the How to Hire the Best™ System. Profit by Design is a Tap the Potential Production in collaboration with Small Business Consulting Group. Show Highlights: Steve summarizes his backstory around being deeply in debt and his need to understand his numbers. Without profit, there is no business. Having consistency and profitability in your business is necessary in attracting A-players to your team. Steve shares why he thinks his team members are so loyal. Tap the Potential’s Breakthroughs on the Bayou Retreat inspired an epiphany in Steve that ultimately allowed him to grow his team from 12 team members to 27 team members over a four-year period. Dr. Sabrina explains the costs of high turnover rates. When you don’t have turnover, that money becomes profit! The benefits that Steve has seen since implementing one-on-ones with his employees have been numerous. Steve had to work on his own personal development in order to be the leader he needed to be for his team when he was able to turn his business finances around. If you’re not willing to work on yourself, you won’t be able to keep the A-players that you attract to your team. Be intentional about creating the culture that you want for your business. Dr. Sabrina’s guest today is Don Zerby, who owns Ecolawn. Don has been following the How to Hire the Best, Profit First, and The Pumpkin Plan systems for at least four years now and today he is sharing his story of his first hire after reading How to Hire the Best, as well as how he has integrated what he has been learning from the Better Business, Better Life™ program at Tap the Potential. Fully implementing Tap the Potential’s solution has allowed Don to create a business that is giving him his life back. Listen in to this inspiring conversation as Don shares his poignant story about why that is so important to him, and be prepared for a few ‘a-ha!’ moments that will be immediately implementable for you. Profit by Design is a Tap the Potential Production in collaboration with Small Business Consulting Group. Show Highlights: Don provides an overview of his lawn care business and the organic nutrient program that he developed. Learning that a deep root system was the foundation for a healthy lawn, Don went on a mission to identify clients whose objectives resonate with his own, as there are components to a healthy lawn for which the homeowner is responsible. After reading the first book in the How to Hire the Best series four years ago, Don made his first hire. This past summer, he received a surprising testimonial from a customer that gave him confirmation that he had hired his first-ever A-player. Don asked his office manager to read The Pumpkin Plan, Profit First, and How to Hire the Best because he planned to implement and execute these systems. Positive feedback from clients he hasn’t even met is now a regular occurrence in Don’s business. Don relates a catastrophic event that occurred three years ago that put him out of work for a month, and how his business operated well in his absence. This experience showed Don how critical it was to create a sustainable business that could operate independently of him. Don shares some of the important lessons he’s learned in the year that he has been a Tap the Potential client. Identifying your immutable laws and core values produces profound change. I'm pleased to have Becca Switzer from Roof Sales Mastery back on the show with me today. If anyone knows about the sales process, it's Becca. She has tons of direct sales experience and she's mastered the sales art of the storm restoration industry, too. Becca really knows her stuff, and she's ready to share what she knows about increasing your profits when working from the insurance claims side, as well as tips for retail sales right here on the show today. What You'll Hear in This Episode: Becca shares how she started Roof Sales Mastery and the development of the six full programs that she offers. Becca is a keynote speaker at RoofCON in Houston, TX that's being held October 15-17, and she will be a breakout speaker at the Roofing Process Conference in Orlando, FL on December 3-4. The storm restoration industry differs from retail roofing sales in a number of ways, which Becca details: The leads generation process is different Dealing with the insurance company and getting the damage approved Pricing - everyone uses Xactimate Supplementing - getting the claim where it needs to be There are 3 groups of people, according to Becca: The early adopters The bandwagoners The late adopters Most contractors don't have great sales skills, and if they don't win the “easy” sales, they think they've missed their opportunity. This is the wrong mindset! Xactimate is the only insurance claims estimating software used by the industry. She does not sell it, but she can train you on how to use it! On today’s episode, Tap the Potential’s valued team member, Stacey Seguin, returns to the show to interview Dr. Sabrina about her upcoming book, the latest in her How to Hire the Best series! Listen in as Stacey and Dr. Sabrina discuss How to Hire the Best: The Entrepreneur’s Ultimate Guide to Attracting Top-Performing Team Members, the story behind the book, and just why business owners are falling back in love with their businesses. Don’t miss this exciting conversation with its many nuggets of wisdom! As a Tap the Potential strategist, Stacey specializes in Profit First and Pumpkin Planning and supports Tap the Potential by providing clients with guidance towards advancing their company goals and assisting them in problem-solving any business challenges they may encounter along the way. Profit by Design is a Tap the Potential Production in collaboration with Small Business Consulting Group. Show Highlights: Dr. Sabrina announces the two winners of signed copies of David Jenyn’s latest book, Systemology! The big win for Dr. Sabrina this week has been having the Audible version of her upcoming book ready to be uploaded. Dr. Sabrina’s expertise in psychology played a part in solving the most common issue among her clients. “It’s just the way it is” versus “What if it’s not true?” Dr. Sabrina explains “dominant discourse” and how this presents challenges to small business owners. When Dr. Sabrina found small business owners who had at least one A-player on their team, she discovered a common theme: they had no idea how they attracted these people and they didn’t know how to replicate the process to find even more. Stacey details what she thinks is the perfect trifecta of important books for business owners: Profit First - For the financial piece The Pumpkin Plan - For competing in the market place How to Hire the Best - For building the team who advances your goals Dr. Sabrina addresses the natural progression of her How to Hire the Best book for rural business owners becoming a series for contractors, entrepreneurs, and beyond. Dr. Sabrina shares from the heart about the naming of her business and her desire to help people reach their potential. There are many benefits of hiring A-players, including lower turnover and profitability. Dr. Sabrina’s passion project will be her next book, The 4 Week Vacation™, which will be all about work supports life, not the other way around. She is so excited to show the research that shows the irony of when we work less, we’re more effective and more productive. Coming up, Dr. Sabrina and Stacey will be previewing some of the chapters in How to Hire the Best: The Entrepreneur’s Ultimate Guide to Attracting Top-Performing Team Members. They’ll cover why hiring is such a challenge for small business owners, and Tap the Potential’s solution to having the business that gives you more money in your bank account than you’ve ever had before and more free time for what matters most to you!
