I can’t wait for you to dive into today’s episode where we chat about how we can better serve ourselves by changing how we talk to ourselves and how we can’t expect to always be “perfect”! I’m a (recovering) perfectionist so this topic is super close to home & something I’m constantly working on. Here’s what you can expect!   What I’ve been working on: Aiming to eat before 7pm because that's when I notice my PCOS symptoms are most at bay. Over the weekend I got so upset & frustrated because it was after 7 when I ate & I turned into a monster over it! Perfect doesn’t exist. PROGRESS ALWAYS WINS. STRIVE FOR BETTER NOT PERFECT. Maybe you had a few extra drinks over thanksgiving or ate some stuff you’ve been avoiding.  Maybe you skipped a workout. Whatever it is for YOU, we ALL go through it. The feeling of DAMN, I “SHOULD’VE” done this or I “SHOULDN'T” have done that!⁣ Maybe it’s TRUE you made CHOICES that weren’t EXACTLY in line with your health & hormone goals.⁣ BUT that doesn’t mean YOU SUCK & need to feel GUILTY about it! It means you have an OPPORTUNITY to GROW & get BETTER!⁣ If you hold yourself to an EXPECTATION that’s UNATTAINABLE, you’ll NEVER be PROUD of yourself for the SMALL GAINS that turn into BIG GAINS that you’re doing OVERALL.⁣ We need to look at everything as, am I BETTER than who I was yesterday? Am I taking steps in the RIGHT DIRECTION?⁣ When you’re changing your lifestyle it can be OVERWHELMING & if you don’t look at it as being BETTER than BEFORE, rather than being PERFECT, you’re missing out on an OPPORTUNITY to feel PROUD of yourself & give yourself the MOMENTUM to KEEP GOING!⁣ When we CELEBRATE 3 days of lemon water instead of feeling DEFEATED from the 4 days without it, it make us want to keep going!⁣ Be PROUD of YOURSELF for the changes you ARE MAKING!⁣ Acknowledge them & it’ll help you CONTINUE making progress. PROGRESS over PERFECTION. ALWAYS! I’m not saying to not hold yourself to a high standard and take care of yourself. BUT beating yourself up over it ISN;T DOING ANYTHING. Would you say the things you say to yourself to your friend, sister, daughter? Probably not! We need to treat ourselves & talk to ourselves internally like we would to the little girl inside of us You’re not a piece of shit because you didnt 100% stick to something. You made a choice. That doesn’t make you a failure. Do we always want to be getting better & making the best choices we can? Of course. But not at the cost of our mental well being.    WAYS WE CAN CONNECT! I’m so excited for you to listen in on my conversation with Jen Emswiler! We hit on so many amazing topics that I think you’re really going to vibe with.   First things first, Jen Emswiler is an entrepreneur, podcast host, writer, yoga and meditation teacher, life coach and mindfulness expert dedicated to helping individuals navigate change and live life mindfully. She is the Founder and CEO of Thought Leader, which aims to bring mindfulness to teams through short, simple and powerful techniques.    Jen offers 1:1 mindful coaching sessions and consultations through her website. You can connect with Jen on social @fromjentozen or by tuning into her podcast From Jen To Zen!   Jen talks to us about how she was in a severe car accident, on birth control & got Lyme's disease which left her in chronic pain- mindfulness & meditation helped guide her through that.   TOPICS WE CHAT ABOUT: Meditation is a vehicle to mindfulness. Mindfulness is awareness of the present moment. The here and now. Everything is temporary Mindfulness- research has shown- the fight or flight part of your brain shrinks & - the part responsible for making decision, concentration & focus thickens- when we practice mindfulness we are decreasing our stress response but increasing our ability to handle more stressful situations more skillfully & take more time to respond rather than react. Mindfulness/meditation allows our brain to change. Not a one size fits all- find what works for you. Walking meditation, morning,  night, after a workout John Kabat—Zinn Mindfulness based stress reduction clinic in Massachusetts  Study: Basketball athletes were split into 2 groups. One athlete was shooting free throws for several weeks. The other athlete didn’t practice. He sat and visualized him successfully doing it. At the end of the study, when the athlete who visualized the free throws actually played he was more successful and had a different perspective (even when he missed) than the player that was physically practicing for weeks. Mindfulness calms your nervous system, lowering cortisol levels which is so important for hormone balance. Your mind, body & hormones are all connected- you will not be able to fully heal if you are only focussed on food and exercise. We are holistic beings and our mind & our thoughts are so powerful. If our mind and what we’re telling ourselves don’t align with the actions we’re taking, we’re essentially hurting our progress and we’re stuck.   TIPS FOR MOVING FORWARD: pay attention & be present when you’re doing little things- things you already do (brushing your teeth- cooking- sipping on tea etc) look for SMALL tasks to be mindful of throughout the day set reminders in your phone: to stop & notice 5 things around you. What’s present? What can you see/hear/touch/smell. Take deep breaths & let it go. Start a gratitude practice (journaling)- SMALL things you’re grateful for even in a season of loss/grief/uncertainty. Meditation apps: insight timer, headspace, calm WAYS WE CAN CONNECT! I’m so excited for you to dive into this episode because this topic is SUPER important. Many of my clients have been telling me they’re nervous about heading into the holiday season and worried they won’t be able to stay on track. SO I've decided to bring some of my tips to you!   First things first: throw away ANY expectations whether “good or bad” because this holiday season is going to look different than any other year. We get to choose how every situation feels and what we make of it.   Be GRACEFUL with yourself during this season and know that you’re NOT ALONE.   But ALSO let’s do our best to make the BEST of it.   5 steps to stay on track hormonally over the holidays:   Stick to your MORNING ROUTINE glass of water warm lemon water HIGH PROTEIN BREAKFAST: aim for a smoothie so you can get a ton of greens & nutrients since you probably won’t later in the day. How you start your day sets the tone for the rest of the day.   MOVE YOUR BODY: Do some kind of movement for 30 minutes before starting your festivities. Movement increases the diversity of gut bacteria It also boosts our mood which is so helpful for this time of year If you can- take a 10 minute walk after dinner to aid digestion & help blood sugar balance   MAKE MINDFUL CHOICES CHOOSE 1 DESSERT AND ENJOY IT rather than taking a bite of every single thing. EAT YOUR VEGGIES FIRST. This aids digestion because it’s loaded with fiber. Meat doesn’t have fiber so pairing it with veggies will help you digest & it will help you feel more full.   HYDRATE drink 1/2 your body weight in ounces of filtered water a day if you’re having some alcohol, increase that amount of water & have water in between each drink room temp water, not cold! Cold water constricts digestion.   BE PREPARED FOR THE NEXT DAY Make sure you have a nutrient dense, fiber rich, high protein breakfast set for the next day get right back into your morning routine   Don’t let 1 day of indulging turn into 2 months of indulging.   MOST IMPORTANTLY: DON’T FEEL GUILTY. Enjoy the holiday and know that it’s not about being perfect! It’s 80/20. One salad isn’t going to cure all your problems just like one indulgence isn’t going to sabotage all the progress you’ve made. It becomes a problem when 1 day of indulgences turns into 1 season. Being stressed & guilty about it causes MORE IMBALANCES than eating it and enjoying it. WAYS WE CAN CONNECT! Today we’re chatting all about progesterone & ovulation because it’s VITAL for our hormones & overall health. Ovulation is the ONLY way you make PROGESTERONE which is a hormone that is beneficial for mood, energy, libido, insulin response, thyroid, skin, hair, metabolism more.  Progesterone is essential for healthy reproduction & periods but it also supports your brain, immune system, and detoxification enzymes! Here are 7 ways Progesterone supports you! (Adapted by Lara Briden- sources linked below!)   Boosts energy by stimulating the thyroid and amping up your metabolism. That’s why your body temperature goes up half a degree when you make progesterone after ovulation. It also relieves adrenal fatigue which is really HPA dysregulation because it stabilizes the communication between the hypothalamus (modulates the endocrine system through its connections with the pituitary gland)  & adrenal glands.  Soothes mood and rescues sleep because stimulates sleep centers in the brain and is essential for combatting PMS insomnia  Nourishes hair and clears skin because it reduces male hormones (androgens) by inhibiting the enzyme 5-alpha reductase. The result is faster-growing hair, less skin oil (sebum), and fewer skin break-outs.  Lightens periods (heavy periods come from excess estrogen) by counteracting estrogen’s stimulating effect on the uterine lining. Prevents autoimmune disease because it modulates immune function reduces inflammation, and up-regulates detoxification enzymes. Builds bones and muscle by stimulating bone-building cells which are called osteoblasts & the growth of new muscle. Protects against cancer by counteracting estrogen’s stimulating effect on breast and uterine tissue. HOW TO TRACK OVULATION: Cervical fluid- egg white consistency & stretchy leading up to ovulation Before ovulation it’s between 97 and 97.7 After ovulation it increases about .5 and maintains that higher level until your period Take your temperature before getting out of bed, at the same time every morning. I'm so excited for you to tune into another Q&A episode! Here are the 4 JUICY questions I answer: 1. What can I do to lessen/prevent heavy periods & clotting? 2. How much impact do exterior toxins have on your body/health? 3. How does long term use of an IUD affect your hormones? And 4. Is a post workout drink harmful to my hormones like a preworkout drink is? SUCH awesome questions!! I can’t wait to hear what you think!   What can I do to lessen/prevent heavy periods, clots,? Heavy periods are mostly from EXCESS ESTROGEN-body isn’t detoxifying your estrogen it properly (in your liver &/or gut) Your LIVER processes and metabolizes hormones and then moves it onto the gut where they’re eliminated through poop. Go back to EPISODE 10 to learn more about healing your gut TIPS TO HELP: Reduce/remove caffeine, alcohol & dairy because they increase estrogen, & add in cooked Cruciferous veggies (kale, brussels, cauliflower, cabbage, collards) Check out EPISODE 11 for more info on CAFFEINE & HORMONES. 2. SARAH: How much impact do exterior toxins have on your body/health Skin is your largest organ- it absorbs 80% of what you put on it. Most of the chemicals in conventional products are BANNED in Europe but allowed in the United States Whatever we put on our skin goes right into the bloodstream There are more than 80,000 chemicals on the market & many don't have any safety data. Especially those used in the skin care and beauty industry. The Food and Drug Administration (the agency that regulates cosmetics in the United States) does not have the authority to remove harmful ingredients from the products we put on our bodies every single day. Decades of studies show that health issues such as asthma, cancer, and infertility are on the rise and are due in some part to our ongoing exposure to toxic chemicals—whether it's from the products we use in the shower, when we get ready, on our commute, while we eat lunch or when we clean our homes. Toxic chemicals can alter important biological systems (like the endocrine system, which regulates our hormones). Candles, household cleaning products & environmental toxins put a burden on our liver which slows down our ability to metabolize excess hormones. Go to ewg.org/skindeep for more info & to check your products! Check out EPISODE 8 for more info on SKIN CARE & TOXINS EPISODE 2 for more info on pesticides and hormones. MY ABSOLUTE FAVE SKIN CARE PRODUCTS are SKIN ESSENCE ORGANICS. US website: www.skinessenceorganics.com CANADA website: www.skinessence.ca CODE CORINNE saves you 15% off! And FREE EXPRESS SHIPPING when you spend over $50!   3. How does long term use of an IUD affect your hormones? Copper IUD does not change your hormones- it doesn’t prevent ovulation. The copper ions impair sperm motility and the physical presence of something in the uterus changes the uterine lining so that a fertilized egg cannot implant and develop. NEGATIVES: It causes an INFLAMMATORY reaction in your body, it can cause painful periods, heavy periods, it disrupts the vaginal microbiome and doubles the risk of bacterial vaginosis which causes discharge with a fishy odor. Copper toxicity can lead to anxiety & mood problems. The Hormonal IUD- MIRENA & SKYLA IUD: releases progestin and it thickens cervical mucus, inhibits sperm survival, prevents build up of your uterine lining Progestin is not progesterone. Side effects of levonorgestrel include acne, hair loss, hirsutism, depression, anxiety, headaches, breast pain, yeast infections, and weight gain. It causes ovarian cysts in 5 percent of users. It doesn’t aim to suppress ovulation but it CAN and sometimes does suppress ovulation one study found that it does suppress ovulation in 85 percent of cycles during the first year (when the dose of the levonorgestrel drug is higher), and then in 15 percent of cycles after that. fertility returns to normal almost as soon as you remove a hormonal IUD.  According to endocrinology professor Jerilynn Prior, “regular menstrual cycles with consistently normal ovulation…will prevent osteoporosis, breast cancer and heart disease.” IUDs are still NOT GETTING TO THE ROOT CAUSE of your period problems/hormone imbalances. Other forms of contraception that DO NOT disrupt your hormones: CONDOMS. Sustain Natural Condoms are my fave brand. For more info on the BIRTH CONTROL PILL check out Episode 9.   SOURCES: https://www.larabriden.com/pros-cons-mirena-iud-natural-health/ https://drbrighten.com/iud-side-effects/   4. AMBER: Is a post workout drink harmful to my hormones like a preworkout drink is? Depends on the product! Read the ingredients! If there’s sugar it’s going to cause a blood sugar spike. If there’s whey protein that’s inflammatory to your system. Always look at the ingredients POST WORKOUT FUEL can be an actual MEAL with protein from legumes, quinoa or a vegan protein powder shake.   WAYS WE CAN CONNECT! Today we're chatting all about "random" symptoms that could be signs of a HORMONAL IMBALANCE! Maybe you're not sure WHY you’re getting all these “RANDOM” symptoms? I used to feel the SAME WAY!⁣ I struggled with DIGESTIVE issues for YEARS! ⁣ I would be so BLOATED after EVERY SINGLE thing I ate it would feel like I was 3️ months pregnant.⁣ I would go back and forth with CONSTIPATION and go DAYS without going to the bathroom!⁣ ⁣ I also used to get severe MIGRAINES at least once a month.⁣ On top of that, I had more obvious hormonal imbalance symptoms such as an IRREGULAR period that turned into a NONEXISTENT period.⁣ ⁣ But I had absolutely NO IDEA that my BLOATING, CONSTIPATION & MIGRAINES were coming from the SAME ROOT CAUSE that my IRREGULAR periods were coming from: A HORMONAL IMBALANCE.⁣ ⁣ For me it was PCOS. For others it isn’t necessarily a syndrome like that, but rather an imbalance of specific hormones in the body.⁣ ⁣ I talk to so many women who say to me, “I’m not sure if I’d be a good fit to work with you because I don’t know that I have hormonal imbalance. But I do have ACNE, I’m extremely FATIGUED, I have a lot of CRAVINGS, and I really CAN’T LOSE WEIGHT.”⁣ ⁣ Those are CLASSIC hormone IMBALANCE SYMPTOMS.⁣ ⁣ But when we go to our doctors with these issues, instead of identifying the CAUSE of these symptoms & recognizing they are ALL CONNECTED, they treat the SYMPTOM with MEDICATION.⁣ ⁣ If you have ANY of the below symptoms, you need to consider the fact that it can be caused from a hormonal imbalance.⁣ ⁣ Start looking at your body as a WHOLE instead of separated parts.⁣ EVERY single SYMPTOM you are experiencing is coming from a DEEPER problem.⁣ Your body will continue giving you symptoms until it’s SO LOUD that you CAN’T IGNORE it.⁣ ⁣ Your body is DESIGNED and WANTS to HEAL.⁣ But the ONLY way to do that is to recognize that your SYMPTOMS ARE COMING FROM A ROOT CAUSE that NEEDS your ATTENTION.⁣ ⁣ Here are the symptoms & signs of HORMONAL IMBALANCES:   DIGESTIVE PROBLEMS (Bloating, constipation, diarrhea, IBS) FATIGUE CRAVINGS   ANXIETY MIGRAINES ACNE HAIR LOSS STUBBORN WEIGHT LOSS IRREGULAR/MIA PERIODS HEAVY PERIODS CRAMPS EXCESS FACIAL HAIR This is the GUT EPISODE I referred to in today's episode! I can’t wait for you to dive into this episode with me because I think it’s SUCH an important topic & REFRAME!   Chugging coffee and/or pre workout FIRST THING in the morning is the NORM for so many people. BUT we do it without knowing WHAT it’s actually doing in your body and HOW it’s affecting your hormones.   Here’s some of the juicy details:   How having PRE WORKOUT/COFFEE/CAFFEINE first thing in the morning affects your body:   It dehydrates you which SLOWS DOWN DIGESTION & INCREASES FATIGUE.⁣   CAFFEINE is very STIMULATING to our nervous system & increases cortisol (stress hormone) that when functioning properly is already high in the morning (because it’s the hormone that wakes us up) & is going to increase more when you workout.   This continuous increase in cortisol leads to BLOOD SUGAR IMBALANCES & DECREASES PROGESTERONE.⁣ ⁣ [PROGESTERONE supports our metabolism, skin, hair, thyroid, ability to hold onto a pregnancy, regular periods & moods.⁣ Progesterone is easily DECREASES with POOR SLEEP & STRESS.]   SUGAR, ARTIFICIAL SWEETENERS & DAIRY (in pre workout or coffee) are all INFLAMMATORY & start your day with a BLOOD SUGAR SPIKE. What goes up must come down. This BLOOD SUGAR ROLLER COASTER creates a cascade of problems that can lead to WEIGHT GAIN, CRAVINGS, FATIGUE, IRREGULAR PERIODS, ACNE, FACIAL HAIR GROWTH, SLEEP DISTURBANCES, PMS.⁣   REASONS to AVOID/REDUCE caffeine ESPECIALLY if you have PMS, are trying to conceive or have menstrual issues:   Caffeine DECREASES FERTILITY rates because it: - Increases cortisol levels & stresses the adrenals which INTERFERES with OVULATION -DEPLETES vital vitamins & minerals including B VITAMINS & FOLATE needed for OVULATION & healthy FERTILITY. - In the 2016 research in fertility & sterility they found that “3 or more caffeinated beverages a day prior to conception increases the risk of miscarriage by 74%.” In the FLO by Alisa Vitti pg. 114 Caffeine DEPLETES MICRONUTRIENTS essential for hormone balance, REDUCES the ABSORPTION of key nutrients & minerals such as MAGNESIUM & B VITAMINS.   The acidity in coffee can alter the microbiome which: - Imbalanced gut flora reduces the ability to absorb nutrients - Without adequate nutrients it's harder for your endocrine system to balance your hormones.   RESOURCES In the FLO by Alisa Vitti Beyond the Pill by Dr. Jolene Brighten Ways to connect with me! MIND your hormones
10. Is your GUT the problem?!

MIND your hormones

Play Episode Listen Later Oct 20, 2020 23:38

I’m SO excited for you to hear this week's episode because your gut is one of the MOST IMPORTANT aspects when it comes to your health (if not THE most important)! Your gut is responsible for absorbing nutrients which helps you make the hormones you need AND break down and eliminate the ones you don’t. It has its organisms/bacteria that add up to MORE than the amount of cells in our body!! Those organisms influence our mood, weight, inflammation & overall hormonal health. Your gut is responsible for moving hormones out of the body and helping you detoxify.   When your gut isn’t functioning properly, you can experience anxiety, depression, headaches, joint pain, fatigue, difficulty gaining or losing weight and hormone imbalances.   You need a healthy gut to remove excess estrogen and other waste from the body. Estrogen is moved out of the body through the bowels so when your gut function is compromised estrogen goes back into circulation in your body which leads to those excess estrogen symptoms of bloating, cramping, heavy periods, irritability a.k.a. PMS. You need to poop at least once a day to remove the excess estrogen your body no longer needs so if you’re constipated, you’re most likely suffering from estrogen excess.   Birth control pill disrupts normal flora and produces an environment that allows for overgrowth of harmful bacteria and yeast.   Leaky gut leads to widespread inflammation and hormone disruption throughout the body. We could get a leaky gut when the cells of our intestinal lining are compromised a.k.a. little holes that are food particles go through and into the bloodstream. This is caused by stress, medications, eating foods you’re sensitive to, birth control, gluten, low fiber diet, pesticides, high sugar diet & more.   When you have leaky gut, toxins, microbes, and undigested food particles make their way through your intestinal lining & it sets off your immune system because your immune system doesn’t recognize them so it starts defending them. This results in an inflammatory attack by your immune system. Leaky gut leads to food sensitivities and immune disorders like autoimmune disease.   This inflammation from an imbalanced gut flora leads to insulin receptor dysfunction and higher levels of testosterone which is of course root causes of PCOS. (Beyond the Pill) TANGIBLE TIPS: Add in FIBER to every meal. Fiber is ONLY IN PLANT FOODS. (start with a salad- make veggies the largest thing on each plate). Fiber grabs onto excess hormones, toxins & cholesterol & helps eliminate it out of the body. Add in Omega3 FATS daily- if not in every meal. Omega 3s= avocado, nuts, seeds, olive oil. Omega 3s are ANTI INFLAMMATORY & NOURISH the gut. MOVEMENT. Movement INCREASES the DIVERSITY in our gut! Take the stairs, get up at least once an hour, park in the furthest parking spot, dance around, pick a movement you love. REMOVE/REDUCE: Sugar, processed foods, dairy. Do this ONE AT A TIME! Look at your diet & see what you consume the most of out of the list above. Start with what you consume most and remove/reduce ONE thing at a time until it becomes a habit to NOT have it. Then add another. My favorite dairy alternative brands: Good Planet, Miyoko’s, Kite Hill, So Delicious, Melt Butter, Califa SOURCES: Beyond the Pill by Dr. Jolene Brighten PCOS SOS by Felice Gersh The Encyclopedia of Natural Medicine Ways to connect with me! MIND your hormones

Play Episode Listen Later Oct 13, 2020 23:22

I am FIRED UP for today's episode about what hormonal birth control ACTUALLY DOES to your body! First off, I want to preface by saying I of course believe there is a time and place for hormonal birth control & that we need access to it! But I ALSO believe we need INFORMED CONSENT about what the pill is ACTUALLY doing to our bodies. I believe doctors need to recommend NATURAL treatments (that actually HEAL the problem) BEFORE turning towards birth control as a “fix all” approach. Birth control DOES NOT HEAL acne, PCOS or IRREGULAR periods. It puts a BANDAID on it! I also am NOT SAYING to just stop your birth control pill. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THAT. If you are interested in transitioning off I recommend talking to your doctor or working with someone to help you transition off so you have less negative side effects. (For more info on how to connect with me see below!).  Here’s what we dive into today: You’re not getting a real period How it affects your mood/anxiety & depression How it alters your gut microbiome & depletes you of nutrients How it lowers your sex drive A problem with the pill is that you aren’t getting a crucial piece of information about your overall health. Your period is not just your period. It’s a vital sign of your underlying health. It’s like a monthly report card that you’re missing out on when you’re on the pill because you don’t get an actual period when you’re on the pill! It’s SUPPRESSES OVULATION. It completely turns it off! It TURNS OFF the communication from your brain to your ovaries so you’re not getting an actual period. It’s not a bleed that comes after ovulation like it would if you weren’t on the pill and you were getting an actual period. It’s a withdrawal bleed from the drugs that stimulate your uterine lining to shed but shut down your ovaries. A pill bleed is about the dosing of a drug not about the health of your period or your overall health. When you’re on the pill you have no sex hormones of your own. You have steroid drugs given to you as a kind of hormone replacement. They are not the same as your own estrogen and progesterone. QUOTE: “I don’t think it’s necessary to shut down a woman’s entire hormonal system just to accomplish the simple job of preventing pregnancy....Fertility is an expression of health not a disease to be treated with a drug.” LARA BRIDEN in Period Repair Manual Page 17. You’re not making progesterone on the pill because you’re not ovulating. You have a synthetic form of progesterone called progestin in birth control but is does not give you the benefits that our own progesterone gives, such as: improving brain health and cognition, supporting your mood, bones, thyroid, muscles and metabolism. Birth Control is proven to increase anxiety and depression! How it affects your mood is it makes your nervous system more sensitive to stress and also changes the structure of your brain.  It lowers your sex drive because it switches off the testosterone you need for libido. Libido isn’t just for sex, it’s part of your vitality and motivation for life.  Since most people start the birth control pill at such a young age you don’t even know what your period naturally looks like nor do you know what your libido naturally looks like. The pill also makes you nutrient deficient, alters your intestinal and vaginal bacteria which can lead to digestive problems & yeast infections. Your gut is responsible for removing excess hormones and waste from the body so if you’re experiencing symptoms of anxiety, depression, headaches, joint pain, fatigue and/or difficulty gaining and losing weight that can be a symptom of gut dysbiosis and hormone imbalance. You need a healthy gut to remove excess estrogen. When you come off the pill you can experience: Post pill acne, post pill PMS & post pill PCOS. It so important to start natural treatment at least one month before you stop the pill to reduce the severity of post pill problems. Today's episode is all about mindset and intentions across athleticism, career, fitness, and wellness.  You will hear from former podcast guests (on new topics) including top professional and elite athletes, Andia Winslow and Andrew Kalley, and entreprenurs and founders Murray Hidary and Louis Sagar and learn how they  leveraged thier athletic mindset to empower them with the perseverence, focus, and dedication to succeed in their career, the strenth and flexibility to power through severe life illnesses and overcome family loss.  From triathlon, golf and running to CBD, music, and meditation you will be inspired and motivated to get started on your next athletic or entreprenurial endeavor. This was the first Marni on the Move LIVE panel which took place at world renowned athletic complex and NYC gym, Chelsea Piers Fitness.Panel guests include:Professional Athlete-Golfer and Runner, Andia Winslow, who has been building her career as a successful on-air personality and voice over talent over the past several years, Andrew Kalley, an winning Elite Athlete, triathlon coach and personal trainer at Chelsea Piers Fitness with his own portfolio of clients at Kalley Fitness, Louis Sager, the CEO of The Alchemist's Kitchen , and Murray Hidary, piianist, entrepreneur, creator of MindTravel, a musical meditation and experience. It truly was a magical evening. We were on the deck outside, overlooking the Hudson. The event began with the panel, where listeners got to experience first-hand,, what it was like to be part of the podcast with digital wireless headsets almost as if they were in the room where it happens, thanks to Murray Hidary of MindTravel. Following the panel, Chelsea Piers Fitness talented and popular yoga teacher, Danielle Prager led a vinyasa style yoga class to the music of MindTravel and Murray continued to play trugh savasana into the night. While all of this sounds wonderful and amazing, the episode audio is a little rough at first. Like a true entrepreneur, I had a vision and took a big risk, my first time recording a live event at this venue and really set the barre high. We were outside, recording digitally, no wires, with some technical interference and signals and occasional helicopters in the background.  My audio engineers are terrific. But it’s not the same as being in the studio so I wanted to prepare you for a few glitches here and there. However, it’s a really inspiring and empowering conversation and can maybe plant some seeds for you as we move into the New Year! Ok......so it's not a new show but we'll be back next week....so stay tuned! Just to keep the vibe going I'm uploading a live show from one of my favorite bands of the 60's...The Move [I have many but Roy Wood and his band of Brummies won out this time]. I love the SHAZAM period of The Move and this live show encapsulates some of the songs from it while paying homage to Todd Rundgren's genius. The show opens with Rundgrens' early band The Nazz's "Open My Eyes"....what a great cut! Brilliant!....they slow it down with a heavy version of Brill Building Soundsmiths, Barry Mann & Cynthia Weil's "Don't Make My Baby Blue". Some light humor with "Cherry Blossom Clinic" puts you on the analyst's couch for "The Last Thing On My Mind" which was written by folk staple Tom Paxton. "I Can Hear The Grass Grow" is one of the greatest singles ever....the only other version that comes close is The Blues Magoos version! Lightening the mood is a version of Ars Nova's "Fields of People"....a really good song no matter who does it. "Goin' Back" was written by Gerry Goffin & Carol King and The Move do it justice....I think the first version of this was done by Goldie & The Gingerbreads but that needs some fact checking for sure...and hey!.....Freddy Mercury recorded a version of this under the name of LARRY LUREX in 1973 with Roger Taylor & Brian May......back to SHAZAM with "Hello Suzie"....which is just about everyone's favorite...and they end the show with another NAZZ song "Under The Ice" from NAZZ II... Well I hope you forgive me for not laying down any vocal tracks and I hope you enjoy this live show!

#100 Episode Celebration LIVE Game Show! Hello 2018! Well, 2017 was rough and can seriously stick it. We are here now in 2018, and I started it right with a live game show of The Match Game called "Marta Match" complete with magic by Lee Terbosic, a musical drag show by Deep Violet, free craft beer, retro gaming, a butt load of laughter, merriment, a good cause like Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Pittsburgh and welcome friends! The night was better than I could have expected. I had THE best time, and it truly was a dream come true for me to be your game show host for the evening. We had such wonderful talent on stage. Deep Violet and Lee Terbosic NAILED their performances to the point I couldn't breathe I was laughing so hard. Remember to support Pittsburgh creativity and local events, because there is so much of it out there that is making it happen. A few hundred thanks... I wanted to give a personal thank you to the staff at City Theatre for rocking my evening. Everything was so on point, professional, and fun. Adam Nelson for being my personal "Manna White", and game master, Thomas Douglas for providing his expert musical skills, and my panelists who MADE my evening so much brighter. I could do this everyday. Hopefully I will get to do it again, very soon. A MASSIVE thank you goes out to my sponsors- Helicon brewing, Levity, Selective Foods, Gaucho Parilla Argentina, Aldo's Food Service, Harris Grill, and The Church Recording Studio. Without your support, this would have never have happened. Last but not least, I want to thank each and every one of you who donated your time on the coldest day of the year to come out to this event. I know it is hard getting out of that onesie. Hell, I am in one right now. You did though, and you made my wish happen. THANK YOU! IF you didn't get the chance to come (That does suck cause you probably missed the best party of the year, but we won't hold that against you.) Here is the audio from the evening that I am releasing as my 100th episode. I truly hope everyone's 2018 is magical. Let's make some amazing memories together :) NOTE- I have many requests for T- Shirts for the event, so I am doing a one time pre order. The design will be up soon. If interested please email Martafoos@gmail.com Also if you subscribe to my newsletter you will get pictures from the evening that are not posted here. Special thanks to Rob Larson Photography and Buzzy Torek Photography for capturing moments from the evening. Also special thanks to these folks who donated items and cash to raise money for Big Brothers Big Sisters! Jason Bowden, Pittsburgh Love, Enter The Imaginarium, Spork Restaurant, Muv Integrated Physical Culture, Body Work 412, Fredrick Wildman and Sons, Hunt's Treasures, Helicon Brewing, Harris Grill,  Games Unlimited, and Pittsburgh Retro Gaming. Jesus expected his followers to truly be the evidence of the change God wanted an unbelieving world to see. This week , Pastor Butler speaks to us about one of the most difficult challenges we face when God calls us to Move - live different.
