Life will punch you in the mouth. That's not pessimism—that's reality. In this episode, Ruth unpacks what actually derails us. It's not the hard thing itself. It's the story we attach to it. When plans fall apart, when the diagnosis comes, when the ankle breaks, when life refuses to cooperate, we quietly decide it means something about who we are.And that's where the spiral starts. This episode is about recalibration—the skill of returning. Because maybe you're not as far off track as you think you are. Maybe you're just in the middle of life. What You'll Learn:Why hard seasons don't derail you—but the meaning you assign to them mightThe hidden story that turns a detour into a verdictWhy “I never follow through” is usually a lie born from exhaustionThe difference between failure and recalibrationWhy progress has never been a straight line (for anyone)What disciplined people actually do differentlyHow Ruth's Think Big, Plan Small system is built for disruption—not perfectionWhy “show up” can be the most courageous wildly important goalHow to return without overcompensating or starting overWhy getting back on track isn't the exception—it's the entire gameKey Quotes:“We don't fall apart because life gets hard. We fall apart because we decide what it means.”“Failure is a verdict. Recalibration is a practice.”“Disciplined people don't avoid getting knocked down. They get back up faster.”“The recalibration isn't the backup plan—it's the whole point.”“You don't need to catch up. You just need to return.”“You're not starting over. This is a special episode from 614 Conference that features a conversation between David Swart and Chris Wienand. We hope you enjoy this and are stirred to ask the Lord how you are meant to GO!+++++Is church planting only for the "spiritual elite," or is it the natural calling of every healthy Jesus community? In this session, David Swart sits down with Chris Wienand (Genesis Collective) to discuss the raw, honest, and surprisingly simple reality of starting new churches. Chris shares his "accidental" journey from the Jesus Movement in South Africa to planting a thriving, millennial-led community in Costa Mesa, California, at age 57.Key highlights in this conversation:The "Table" over the "Stage": Why a dining room table is often more effective than a high-budget school hall. The Call to Multiply: Moving beyond just growing a local church to filling the earth with Jesus communities.Apprenticeship: Why church planting isn't a manual you buy, but a life you share through honest, loving "boot camp" leadership.Radical Faith: A miraculous story of how a small community of baristas and students raised over $100,000 in a single offering to give it all away.Whether you feel a stir to lead something new or simply want to understand God's heart for multiplication, this talk will ruffle your feathers and ignite your faith for the "great global gospel adventure."A Note on the Theology of the "Table"Chris references the early church model found in Acts 2:42-47. This lifestyle of "breaking bread from house to house" is the foundation of what he calls a Jesus Community.Instead of starting with complex programs (children's ministry, worship bands, etc.), Chris advocates for building trust, storytelling, and shared life first. As he notes, "Where there is life, there is growth."CHAPTERS0:00 – Introduction: Chris Wienand and the Genesis Collective1:21 – Why Church Planting Matters for Every Believer3:22 – Increase vs. Multiplication: The Genesis Mandate5:31 – How Do You Know You're Ready to Plant?7:47 – The Apprenticeship Model: Getting "Ready for the World"13:53 – The "Table" Strategy: Launching with Simplicity19:08 – Reaching the "Far Off": Deconstruction and Unreached Nations27:50 – A Lesson in Radical Generosity: Giving it All Away32:42 – 5,000 by Friday: Learning to "Pray Your Money In"34:22 – Moving from Management to Kingdom Mystery35:18 – Overcoming the Fear of the "System"36:05 – Abiding in the Vine: The #1 Secret to Survival38:05 – Self-Awareness vs. Self-Excuse: Facing the Mirror40:09 – Spiritual Push-ups: Building a Financial Faith Story42:21 – Closing: A Call to the Next Generation of Planters
The Town went down 3-1 to the league leaders Cardiff City in Wales on a chastening Saturday afternoon of football. Kev is joined by The Lutonian journalist James Cunliffe to reflect on a sobering beating at the hands of the table toppers. The boys go through where it all went wrong, what really disappointed about the Town performance and where massive improvements need to be made moving forward along with all the main talking points from the 90 minutes. The chaps then reflect on what can change away from home to try and turn our fortunes outside of Bedfordshire and look at where we are at in the season. All this and plenty more on the longest-running, award-winning Luton Town podcast!
Ralph Vacchiano of FOX Sports joins Afternoon Drive on The Fan. He talks about how the Todd Monken hiring impacted the Giants, where the Browns rank in the NFL going into the offseason, how they can address the quarterback situation, and more.

All the cool kids are doing it! ------------- It's the 10th anniversary of the Paris Agreement. In this new series from The Climate Pod, we're looking back on the global pact to determine: how have things changed since 2015 and what has the Paris Agreement accomplished? Our first two episodes were on extreme heat and adaptation. This week, we're looking at the massive gap that exists between the goals of the Paris Agreement and the current state of progress. In the decade that has past since the Paris Agreement was signed, what has changed with the biggest causes of emissions? How far off track are global efforts today? Where are the biggest gaps? To answer these questions, we're joined by Clea Schumer and Sophie Boehm, two of the lead authors on the Systems Change Lab's latest report, State of Climate Action 2025. As they note in the report, "although more than three-quarters of indicators are heading in the right direction, progress is alarmingly inadequate, exposing communities, economies and ecosystems to unacceptable risks." We look at all these indicators to determine what needs to happen now and how we understand the complexity of the current moment. We talk about the state of energy, land use and agriculture, transporation, carbon dioxide removal, and much more. January is the month for people to take stock of their habits and routines – and two new books offer unconventional approaches to shaking up our lives. First, Mark Medley's Live to See the Day is about the pursuit of far-fetched goals. He spoke with NPR's A Martínez about what we can learn from no-hope political candidates, amateur creature-hunters, and dreamers. Then, comedian Chris Duffy's Humor Me asks readers to find the funny alongside the grim. In today's episode, he tells NPR's Sacha Pfeiffer about the inspiration for the book, which came from his experience as a teacher. To listen to Book of the Day sponsor-free and support NPR's book coverage, sign up for Book of the Day+ at plus.npr.org/bookofthedayLearn more about sponsor message choices: podcastchoices.com/adchoicesNPR Privacy Policy
January 26-February 1It was a beautiful fall day in 1894. The Manti Temple looked glorious as the morning light almost gave it a heavenly glow. My handsome, six-foot-four-inch, twenty-five-year-old Grandfather, Peter Daniel Jensen was there to meet and marry his beautiful twenty-year-old bride, Sarah Jane Rees. Family was gathered and it was indeed a day of joy and happiness. Grandpa was known to be a consistent journal keeper. How would he describe this glorious day in his sacred journal? I have seen what he wrote for Wednesday, September 26, 1894. It simply read:“Today I married Sarah Jane Rees.”Adam and Eve also kept a Book of Remembrance and fortunately, they recorded so much more! Let's talk about that in this episode.
Mike Johnson, Beau Morgan, and Ali Mac react to the Atlanta Falcons teasing on social media yesterday that new uniforms are coming in April, speculate on what the new uniforms could look like, talk about what they want they new uniforms to look like, recap and react to the Houston Texans beating the Pittsburgh Steelers 30-6 in Pittsburgh last night in this year's final NFL Wild Card Playoff game, and explain why they think the Falcons aren't far off from what the Steelers have been over the past few years.
Bobby and Mike spoke to a WWL listener about the NFL's Wild Card Round. The guys compared the Saints' roster to some of the playoff teams. Bobby also reviewed the Packers' ridiculous collapse against the Bears.
In our passage this week, Philip encounters a rather unique individual in the middle of the desert, one of the most powerful men from an African empire. He is a eunuch, but he is also a convert to the worship of the God of Israel. In this passage Philip shares the gospel with this man starting with a passage from Isaiah 53. As you prepare for the sermon, along with reading Acts 8:26-40, read Isaiah 53 as well. Meditate on this stunning prophetic portrayal of the sacrifice of Jesus. And consider God's providence in the Spirit's orchestration of this incredible encounter.Pray that we too would open our mouths to explain God's word by the guidance of the Spirit with those we encounter. And may we see God's goodness to bring near those who are far-off.

Far Off Places was a magazine featuring creative writing and illustration which ran from 2013 to 2018.

Psalm 44 English Standard VersionCome to Our HelpTo the choirmaster. A Maskil of the Sons of Korah.44 O God, we have heard with our ears, our fathers have told us,what deeds you performed in their days, in the days of old:2 you with your own hand drove out the nations, but them you planted;you afflicted the peoples, but them you set free;3 for not by their own sword did they win the land, nor did their own arm save them, but your right hand and your arm, and the light of your face, for you delighted in them.4 You are my King, O God; ordain salvation for Jacob!5 Through you we push down our foes; through your name we tread down those who rise up against us.6 For not in my bow do I trust, nor can my sword save me.7 But you have saved us from our foes and have put to shame those who hate us.8 In God we have boasted continually, and we will give thanks to your name forever. Selah9 But you have rejected us and disgraced us and have not gone out with our armies.10 You have made us turn back from the foe, and those who hate us have gotten spoil.11 You have made us like sheep for slaughter and have scattered us among the nations.12 You have sold your people for a trifle, demanding no high price for them.13 You have made us the taunt of our neighbors, the derision and scorn of those around us.14 You have made us a byword among the nations, a laughingstock among the peoples.15 All day long my disgrace is before me, and shame has covered my face16 at the sound of the taunter and reviler, at the sight of the enemy and the avenger.17 All this has come upon us, though we have not forgotten you, and we have not been false to your covenant.18 Our heart has not turned back, nor have our steps departed from your way;19 yet you have broken us in the place of jackals and covered us with the shadow of death.20 If we had forgotten the name of our God or spread out our hands to a foreign god,21 would not God discover this? For he knows the secrets of the heart.22 Yet for your sake we are killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.23 Awake! Why are you sleeping, O Lord? Rouse yourself! Do not reject us forever!24 Why do you hide your face? Why do you forget our affliction and oppression?25 For our soul is bowed down to the dust; our belly clings to the ground.26 Rise up; come to our help! Redeem us for the sake of your steadfast love!English Standard Version (ESV)The ESV® Bible (The Holy Bible, English Standard Version®), © 2001 by Crossway, a publishing ministry of Good News Publishers.ESV Text Edition: 2025.

Officials from Hamas and Israel have come together on the initial framework of a ceasefire agreement. In the first phase, Israeli and Palestinian hostages will be released next week. Other details, such as disarmament of Hamas, governance of Palestine, and the removal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip remain to be seen. President Trump celebrated the agreement and pronounced “lasting peace” in the Middle East, but is that premature?Political violence on the left continues to be a focus of the Trump administration in the wake of Charlie Kirk's killing. The White House has accused massive anti-ICE protests of being connected to large networks of left-wing nonprofits and donors. Is there legitimacy to those claims? Or is the administration silencing any opponents?Global superstar Bad Bunny was announced as the halftime entertainment for this season's Super Bowl. The artist, whose music is predominantly in Spanish, previously avoided touring in the USA after concerns that his concerts would be targeted by ICE raids. In response to the announcement, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said that ICE would be present at the NFL's signature event. But are agents there for law enforcement or other motives?
