Americans are obsessed with thinness, yet statistically two thirds of Americans are overweight. The obsession goes so far that there are women who will buy clothes a few sizes too small, on the perchance that they will lose weight to fit into them, or as an incentive to lose weight. Yet, for those who need to lose weight, the struggle is sometimes lifelong. Our guest Lisa R. Young, PhD, RDN, CDN, an internationally recognized nutritionist, and portion size expert is here to talk about how what we believe are adequate food portions, are in fact oo much, and where the calories in the foods we enjoy, and think are healthyare in fact hidden. Lisa says that we really do not need to fill an entire plate with food to feel full or know that we have eaten enough, and what is proper portion control. She also discusses the new fad diets for losing weight, and the people in the ads who claim are losing weight, and that there is no miracle ingredient exist to losing weight, and also about the effects of yo-yo dieting, and emotional eating.

The near two-year wait is over as #HawaiiFB can now welcome a full house of fans, albeit at much smaller Ching Field, capacity 9,000, far from the 50,000 seats at Aloha Stadium. But is that necessarily a bad thing? How big is the fan base these days anyway? Longtime Warrior Fan Aaron Montoya joins Wayne and Sean to discuss where the program is trending. Wayne was among the 1,000 allowed into the UH/NMSU game and talks the venue, the Colt Brennan ceremony and why on-campus is likely the future for the Bows, for better or for worse. We also talk about a big tour next week for those Titans fans in the 808 looking to see their team up close! We got the best seats on the vistiors tunnel at SoFi and are throwing in the AIR, ROOM, and GROUND Tranportation as well as the Club Seats! At last, after almost 1 year learning to be a full stack developer. It's time for me to look for a job. Preferably landing a job as Software Engineer or Full Stack Developer. This gonna be quite a challenge for me as I don't have any prior job experiences related to this field. Except my internship 3 years ago during my college days. After that, I've been freelancing and doing a lot of odd jobs. Anyway, this journey was never been about anybody else but me. Searching for what should I do with my life this whole time always have been my top priority. I just feel excited and anxious at the same time. The more I stumbled, the more things I get to learn and reflect on it. What left to do is just keep hustling until I get to where I needed to be. :-) Let's just try our best then!

Lisa R. Young, PhD, RDN, CDN, is an internationally recognized portion-control expert, professor of nutrition in the department of nutrition and food studies at New York University (NYU) and author of Finally Full, Finally Slim: 30 Days to Permanent Weight Loss One Portion at a Time. To celebrate National Nutrition Month, Dr. Young joined Bottom Line president Sarah Hiner to discuss how portion control, mindful eating and certain easy lifestyle changes can help jump-start your weight-loss goals and ultimately lead to a happier and healthier life. Today, food portions can be FIVE TIMES the size of what they were in the 1950s, making weight management as difficult and as complicated as it’s ever been. People have lost their whole perspective on proper portion sizes. In a world of fad diets and weight-loss pills, Dr. Young’s approach is simple yet effective: “Live well and eat sensibly while enjoying the foods you love!” Listen in as Sarah and Dr. Young discuss the following: How to identify unhealthy eating habits and effectively implement new lifestyle changes How to declutter and organize your kitchen to ensure positive eating behaviors How to adapt your environment for improved portion-focused eating Strategies for shopping at the grocery store and eating at restaurants Young’s favorite seasonings to help add flavor and boost weight loss The Bottom Line: Steer clear of rigorous dieting, overthinking and deprivation. You can eat [virtually] anything, as long as you do it in the right amount. The results will follow. A few years ago I was a mess around food and my body. My entire life revolved around what I was eating next. If I wasn't preoccupied with my next meal, I was thinking about what I'd eaten earlier and what that meant for what or how much I'd allow myself to eat later. On the rare occasion I wasn't thinking about food, googling gluten-free-dairy-free recipes, or checking out another vegan restaurant's menu I was thinking about my body and how I was terrified of it changing in a way I wasn't comfortable with. I'm embarrassed to admit all of this but that was my internal reality until I found the work of today's repeat guest Isabel Foxen Duke. Isabel showed me there's another way to live. She taught me why I and so many people fall into an obsession with thinness and therefore dieting and consequently food, all as a result of thinness as a standard of beauty in our culture and the pervasive diet culture that has created. She taught me about fat phobia and how I had internalized it. She taught me about intuitive eating and deconstructing my diet mentality to listen to my body's hunger and fullness signals. She taught me about emotional eating and how it's not wrong, rather it is merely a coping mechanism and a response to years of deprivation with food. She taught me to diversity my hobbies away from wellness alone and to instead focus my attention on my career, creativity, and relationships. Most of all, she helped my to finally stop fighting food and work on making my life as a whole really beautiful, not just my body. We talk about all this and more in today's very long, robust episode. As I mentioned in the inro, I took Isabel's flagship program in 2014 and it honestly really helped me. She's launching it again and that means her free video training series is available for a while so watch those videos here to see what you think.
