During the Christmas season, joy can feel like something we *should* have, even while we struggle to stay afloat with everyday life plus the responsibilities of making magical memories for our children. But what if joy were so much more than a feeling—were instead an assurance of something weighty and eternal that can never be taken away? I wrote The Joyfulness Challenge to explore these exact themes, and we're chatting about both the particulars of the challenge and practical, daily ways we can choose joy, even when our circumstances don't seem like they warrant it on the show today.May this episode and this challenge be a blessing to you this Christmas season and beyond.Mentions:The Joyfulness Challenge The Gentleness ChallengeSponsor Info:Voetberg Music AcademyVoetberg Music Academy provides online, at home, shareable lessons so that your kids can pursue their musical passions without stress or hassle.Use Code: MISFORMAMA20 For 20% Off Of Each Month That You're Enrolled!King's Ridge ElderberriesKing's Ridge, works hard to grow and harvest high quality fresh frozen elderberries and elderberry products from their family to yours. Multiple studies have proven that the holiday season exacerbates mental health issues. For some, the pressure to have “a perfect Christmas” can be overwhelming. For others, their loneliness is amplified. Such people need a real Christmas, one that results in great joy. But joy is not the same thing as happiness. It is infinitely better. Happiness is an emotion. Joyfulness is a condition. Happiness comes from your circumstances. Joyfulness comes from Christ assuring you of his abiding love and your glorious future. Therefore, happiness—“holiday cheer”—is fleeting. Joyfulness is enduring. The historic Christian Church gave Latin titles to each Sunday. Stephanie welcomes Alastair Sterne to discuss the intricate and joyful dance of divine longing. They explore the innate human desire to seek God, the mysterious nature of joy, and the cultivated wisdom that guides us towards spiritual fulfillment in Christ. Alastair Sterne describes the innate human desire to connect with God as a dance. This longing, he notes, arises from the paradox of God being both mysterious and revealed. Jesus Christ reveals God in ways we are invited to explore. The pursuit of God is a journey towards an eternal dance—an unmistakable yearning threaded throughout humanity's history. Joy is not the absence of pain but a testament to divine triumph through trials. Alastair reflects on his personal battle with severe depression—a transformative experience that led him to explore the cultivation of joy. He draws inspiration from the apostle Paul's paradoxical journey: finding profound joy amidst suffering, as explained in Philippians. Joy serves as a divine longing, a sort of homesickness for the eternal. Alastair and Stephanie ponder the concept of joy, highlighting its elusive yet universally appealing nature. Joy transcends fleeting satisfaction, and aligns with a deep-seated desire for God's presence. Wisdom, as discussed by Alastair, provides a framework for cultivating environments where joy can thrive. Drawing upon Proverbs and Miroslav Volf's insights, he argues that wisdom is integral to experiencing "the crown of the good life." By nurturing habits and attitudes, we can plant seeds that allow joy to grow—even amidst life's challenges. Beauty too can be a bridge to divine presence: aesthetic experiences often lead to deeper spiritual connections. Beauty is a precursor to worship, signifying God's creative handiwork. Joy remains contagious regardless of its expression. It can manifest subtly through introspective personalities, or vibrantly via extroverted expressions. This contagious nature inspires others to pursue joy and strengthens the collective spiritual journey. The church calendar invites us towards spiritual awareness, as well. Alastair values the rhythm it brings, providing opportunities to reflect on joyous seasons like Eastertide and introspective ones like Lent. He emphasizes integrating these spiritual practices into daily life to heighten one's awareness of God's presence. Alastair Sterne invites us to explore the deeper dimensions of joy, wisdom, and longing. By embracing the dance with the divine, cultivating wisdom, and recognizing beauty in creation, we can align ourselves with a spiritual trajectory ever deeper into Christ. Alastair's prayer for all those who are listening, asking for God's joy to fill hearts, encapsulates the hope and assurance that await those seeking enduring joy in their spiritual journey. MORE ABOUT ALASTAIR STERNE Alastair Sterne (DIS, Fuller Theological Seminary) is a creative director turned pastor. He serves as the associate pastor at Coastline Church in Victoria, British Columbia. He previously partnered with Redeemer City to City and founded St. Peter's Fireside, a creative liturgical church in Vancouver. He is the author of Rhythms for Life: Spiritual Practices for Who God Made You to Be. Alastair and his wife, Julia, write and podcast together at ordinarymatters.org and collect joy with their daughters. MORE ABOUT “LONGING FOR JOY.” Can we still have joy in a world of pain and anxiety? The troubles around us and in our lives lead many of us into a joyless experience where despair and hopelessness are the norm. Yet something within us still longs for a joy that transcends our challenges and gives us meaning and satisfaction. Alastair Sterne says that our inner longings for joy actually point us to a God of joy who gives us both the capacity for joy and the realities of joyful experience. Sterne explores pathways to joy and why we often experience the absence of joy. He then offers theologically grounded and research-based practices for becoming people of joyful presence. Even if we are not temperamentally happy enthusiasts, we can gradually cultivate the deep abiding joy that we were created for and that enriches the world around us. SAMPLE FROM “LONGING FOR JOY” “When it comes to having children, someone once said, “You'll have less fun but more joy.” I'm not sure I agree with the former but I wholeheartedly agree with the latter—being a father has amplified my joy. Indeed, it is among my greatest joys. My eldest fractured her wrist yesterday. And today, we figured that out. Oops. It's a relatively minor fracture (compared to her broken arm five years ago). She's casted up and ready to go. I can't say it was fun to be in the emergency room for hours on end. But there was nowhere else I'd rather be than by her side . . . even though she was mostly engrossed in a movie or book. On my run this afternoon (my ankles are getting stronger, thanks be to God), I came across an intriguing bench. A rather idyllic path leads to it. The plaque reads: “A place to rest, reflect, and remember in loving memory of our grandmother, mother, sister, and daughter.” But when you sit on the bench, the view is rather, well, uninspired. A beautiful lake resides just around the bend, but this bench is positioned to look at . . . bushes. But should you sit, rest, and reflect, you will see more than bushes. You will see the beauty of the ordinary. The unremarkable transfigured into glory. I won't pretend to be able to name all the species of plants and trees. As I stood there, no longer perplexed by the position of the bench, I was enamored by the gift it offers: the beautiful ordinary. Back to being a father: most days are ordinary. And if I'm careless, they can even feel unremarkable—a compilation of repetitions. But then moments poke holes in the veneer of banality, like hospital waiting rooms for relatively minor injuries. You look at life with a renewed thankfulness and your heart becomes a little more sensitive too. When I sit, rest, and reflect, I find that joy often abides somewhere between thankfulness and a sensitive heart. Would it have been more fun to play hooky from school and go on a walk in the woods with my daughter rather than wait, and wait, and wait among the injured and sick? Of course. Nevertheless, joy sat quietly with us as we waited. The joy of fatherhood and the joy of a well-placed bench.” We invite you to check out the first episode of each of our series, and decide which one you will want to start with. Hi there, Joe Fier here and today I'm sharing some vital takeaways about the importance of play. We get so lost in the momentum of our work that we often sideline the joy and simplicity that play brings. Let's jump into how reintroducing play can, not only enhance your work-life balance, but also reignite your passion for life and business. In this heart-to-heart, I indulge in some real talk about the significance of play. I reflect on the eye-opening moments I've had while watching my kids play, and I bring in perspectives from Dr. Gabor Maté, who spoke about the weight of regrets and the longing for more play and family time. The core message is simple: we need to look beyond the hustle and bustle of 'business' and find true joy in our everyday doings. Lessons Learned from Little Ones I open up about the times I spend with my children, playing and laughing, and how these simple moments can provide profound insights. It's about realizing that some of the things we stress over in our adult lives are not as significant as we make them out to be. If we could just see the world through the carefree eyes of a child, perhaps we'd understand how to lighten our load. Heartfelt Insights from Gabor Maté A moment with Gabor Maté hit me hard, as he shared his own reflections on life and work. His words about always feeling the need to justify his existence through work, at the cost of play and enjoyment, are a stark reminder to us all. We dive deep into the concept that perhaps the value we seek in busyness is misplaced, and it's a discussion I believe we all need to hear. Rethinking the Hustle of Business During our conversation, an idea struck me about the true meaning of 'business'—is it just a fancier word for being 'busy'? I challenge you, as I challenge myself, to redefine what business means to us. What if we put our efforts into fulfilling endeavors that resonate with our soul instead of swimming in a sea of tasks? Discovering Your Superpowers with Kolbe The Kolbe assessment was a game-changer for me, as it outlined my strengths in ways I hadn't considered before. By sharing my own Kolbe scores and what they mean for my approach to work, I'm hoping to encourage you to uncover your own innate powers. It's about working smarter and tuning in to what genuinely allows you to shine. Words of Wisdom from Frank Shamrock In a previous episode, Frank Shamrock shared with us how play is a fundamental learning tool and a form of communication—even in the animal kingdom. His insights remind us that the essence of play goes far beyond simple entertainment; it's a way of interacting with the world in a curious and engaging manner. Making Play Part of Your Daily Grind Now, my friends, let's bring it all home. I invite you to think about how you can weave play into your daily routine. How can you make your days less about the grind and more about the joy? I'd love to hear your thoughts. Let's start a conversation about rekindling that childlike sense of wonder and how making room for play can transform the way we live and work. Wrapping It Up In this conversation we took a closer look at play, not just as fun, but as a crucial component of a well-rounded life. We delved into the sentiments of children at play, insightful advice from Gabor Maté, and the powerful wisdom of Frank Shamrock, all pointing us to one undeniable truth: it's time to put play back on the agenda. Whether you accomplish this by exploring your natural inclinations through assessments like Kolbe or simply by enjoying a playful moment with loved ones, I urge you to nurture your playful spirit. I'm eager to learn how you'll make play a real part of your day, so hit me up with your stories and plans. Remember, it's not just about staying busy; it's about staying brightly, vibrantly alive. Keep playing, keep laughing, and let's make every moment count. Thank you for tuning in to another episode of the MHS podcast where we had the pleasure of having Farzin Mazinani on the show! https://www.linkedin.com/in/clearflow/ https://www.facebook.com/farzinjcc https://www.instagram.com/joyfulfix/ More on Farzin below: I'm an award-winning author and a dedicated Joyfulness Transformation Coach and Mentor, Certified Emotion Code Practitioner, Certified Belief Clearing Practitioner, and the creator of a modality called “JoyfulFix Quantum Healing”. My story dates back to the time I got injured at work many years ago. Even after recovering initially, I suffered from chronic upper back pain. MRI scans and other tests didn't reveal much, and all therapies provided only temporary relief, lasting no more than a week. For 15 long years, I had to visit physiotherapists or chiropractors just to function normally for a short while that mostly wouldn't last over a week. You can imagine the time, money, and countless medications I tried, along with their side effects, just to manage the pain. After going through the training and certification process under the biggest authorities in that field, as I worked on myself and others on various issues, I found that most problems have a root-cause in invisible trapped emotions and beliefs. I noticed a significant shift from anxiety, depression and anger to a profound sense of joy often experienced during the clearing process. This transformation motivated me to help more people experience the same shift from within. I gradually developed my own approach and modality called “JoyfulFix Quantum Healing”, to enhance the effectiveness of the work I was doing. Today, my greatest satisfaction comes from witnessing someone break free from the prison of inner blocks, embracing a joyful life through this transformative process. My methodologies center around addressing the root cause of problems at the subconscious level like trapped emotions, limiting beliefs, social programming to ensure people not only excel professionally but also thrive personally. https://jelqtogain.com/ www.masculinehealthsolutions.com Book a Consultation Call with CJ Now! IG: @masculine_health_solutions.pe IG: @crodzfit FULL ONLINE FITNESS COACHING PROGRAM (WORKOUT AND NUTRITION PLAN!) GET IN SHAPE NOW!!!!! Masculine Health Solutions YouTube Channel! How to Make Your Penis Bigger EBOOK Looking to get started in PE check out TotalManShop hanging rig or their complete starter pack as you have all the tools you'll need and more. The historic Christian Church gave Latin titles to each Sunday. They titled the Third Sunday in Advent “Gaudete,” which means “Rejoice!” As we reach the midway point of Advent, we remember that when the King shall come, he will bring us perfect and everlasting joy. Joy is not the same thing as happiness. Happiness is an emotion. Joyfulness is a condition. Happiness comes from your circumstances. Joyfulness comes from your King entering into your heart and assuring you of his abiding love and your glorious future. Therefore, happiness is fleeting. Joyfulness is enduring.

In this week's episode, Chief Victory Officer Eric Guy talks with Chief Joy Officer, Faith Guy about the lessons we can learn from Buddy, from the movie ‘Elf' and how we can share some holiday cheer even through these difficult times!Key Takeaways:Do you have a word of the year? Faith's word of the year was ‘joy' and having a joyful mindset everyday.  Be joyful for existing, breathing and getting opportunities. There is so much power in giving specific compliments to others.Step outside of your comfort zone, do one thing for somebody today. If you can refine what your purpose is, you give yourself a second chance to have a purposeful life.If we've lost our way, focus on the simple steps of being a good person, a good neighbor, and a good friend.Find your joy in the small thingsTreat everyday like a holidayQuotes:‘Treat everyday like Christmas' ~ Buddy‘You have such a pretty face, you should be on a Christmas card.' ~ Buddy‘You can sing alone, you can sing in front of people; there is no difference.' ~ Buddy‘The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear.' ~ Buddy‘They just lose sight of what's important in life, it doesn't mean they can't find their way.' ~ Santa to BuddyIf you can refine what your purpose is, you give yourself a second chance to have a purposeful life. ~ FaithFind your joy in the small things. - Faith

What is joy? Where can I find it? How can I develop it?There are nine Hebrew words translated as “joy” in the Old Testament. They describe: A deep feelingTaking delight in someone or somethingJoyfulness that accompanies musicTaking pleasure in somethingShouting for joyWhere Do I Find Joy?There are two kinds of joy: Temporal and EternalTemporal joy is found in the world. Temporal joy is not all bad. However, it will never bring lasting satisfaction (Eccl 2:1-2). And certainly, sin is enjoyable for a season (Heb 11:24-25), but the consequences are significant (Gal 6:7). Temporal joy is found in the world.Joy for today and forever is experienced only in Jesus.Temporal joy is circumstantial.Eternal joy is positional.DEVELOPING JOY1. Engage daily in God'sWord in a meaningful way. 2. Engage daily in meaningful prayer.3. Obedience4. Trials5. Focus on JesusWhat was the joy of the cross? The joy of doing the Father's will (Obedience). The joy of providing the way to God (Salvation). The joy of paying sin's penalty once and for all (Substitutionary Atonement). The joy of defeating death and Satan (Resurrection). The joy of celebrating his completed work (Exaltation). The joy of living in us through the Holy Spirit (Indwelling Presence). The joy of his return (Second Advent). The joy in presenting us blameless us to the Father (Justification: Declared not guilty and righteous). Joy for today and forever is experienced only in Jesus.---------DAILY DEVOTIONAL WITH RON MOOREGet Ron's Daily Devotional to your inbox each morning; visit biblechapel.org/devo.LIVING GROUNDEDLearn more about how you can grow deeper and embrace the foundational truths of the Christian faith with Living Grounded. Barton sang in operas like "Marriage of Figaro" and "La Boheme," took acting classes, and performed a solo concert to receive his BA in Music.  Before graduation,  he spent a year in Aix-en-Provence studying French and traveling Europe and North Africa.  Barton's two trips to Morocco instilled in him a curiosity and profound respect for the diverse cultures of  West Africa.  Once back in the US, he applied for the Peace Corps so he could travel back to Africa and immerse himself in the culture and learn about their way of life.  Barton spent two years in Diadjibine, a small village of 2,500 people in Southern Mauritania, West Africa.  As a Peace Corp volunteer, he taught English, helped build water pumps, and started a solar-powered computer center.   The time in Mauritania shaped Barton's mindset on the importance of community, teamwork, leadership, and supporting hard-working people who don't have the resources Americans have at their fingertips.  After Peace Corps, Barton moved to New York City to pursue singing and acting.  He was accepted into the Maggie Flanigan Studio and spent two years studying Meisner technique and writing a one man show about what he learned as a Peace Corps in West Africa.  His show opened up new doors for him and he performed it around the country.  On one of his trips, he traveled to Austin, TX where he met Valerie.   Barton moved to Austin after graduating from the Acting Studio and four months later, they were married.  When Barton moved to  Austin in 2007, he became a personal trainer.  concurrently, Barton created  a voluntourism company taking people to East and West Africa to do volunteer work and enjoying Safaris.   He was introduced to Camp Gladiator in 2012 and his love for performing and passion for fitness made Camp Gladiator a perfect fit.  He sold his tour company and went all in to his new role with Camp Gladiator.  The Mindset Forge Podcast is Barton's  newest passion. Barton hopes the podcast will  help  people  find the tools and inspiration to go after the things in life that matter most to them.  He deliberately chooses guests from a variety of athletic and artistic backgrounds to help listeners gain multiple perspective of how they show up big for performance and how we can too.  Austin Rowing Club Event: https://bit.ly/3zRVkloJoin Premium: https://themindsetforge.supercast.techThe  “Go for the Gold” Competition- https://www.eventbrite.com/e/162602413195IG: @mindsetforgepodcast
