Lola and Ryan kick off 2025 by talking about diversifying your platform. With the temporary (and possibly future) loss of tiktok many piercers learned the risks of focusing on one platform. We also answer a submitted question "how do you manage clients who aren't naughty enough to fire, but still make you dread their appointment?". We also talk about the 2025 conferences we'll be attending, and a short chat about Christina piercings. If you're interested in more Christina piercing info Ryan has a newly published video on the subject available at www.patreon.com/ryanpba. You can also get info about a March 2025 seminar in Quebec Canada at www.ryanpba.com.

“The SDSN has been set up to mobilize research and science for the Sustainable Development Goals. Each year, we aim to provide a fair and accurate assessment of countries' progress on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. The development goals were adopted back in 2015 by all UN member states, marking the first time in human history that we have a common goal for the entire world. Our goal each year with the SDG index is to have sound methodologies and translate these into actionable insights that can generate impactful results at the end of the day. Out of all the targets that we track, only 16 percent are estimated to be on track. This agenda not only combines environmental development but also social development, economic development, and good governance. Currently, none of the SDGs are on track to be achieved at the global level.”In today's podcast, we talk with Guillaume Lafortune, Vice President and Head of the Paris Office of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN), the largest global network of scientists and practitioners dedicated to implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We discuss the intersections of sustainability, global progress, the UN Summit of the Future, and the daunting challenges we face. From the impact of war on climate initiatives to transforming data into narratives that drive change, we explore how global cooperation, education, and technology pave the way for a sustainable future and look at the lessons of history and the power of diplomacy in shaping our path forward.Guillaume Lafortune joined SDSN in 2017 to lead work on SDG data, policies, and financing including the preparation of the annual Sustainable Development Report (which includes the SDG Index and Dashboards). Between 2020 and 2022 Guillaume was a member of The Lancet Commission on COVID-19, where he coordinated the taskforces on “Fiscal Policy and Financial Markets” and “Green Recovery”, and co-authored the final report of the Commission. Guillaume is also a member of the Grenoble Center for Economic Research (CREG) at the Grenoble Alpes University. Previously, he served as an economist at the OECD in Paris and at the Ministry of Economic Development in the Government of Quebec (Canada). Subacute Ruminal acidosis, commonly referred to as SARA, could be robbing your herd of production. When pH dips too low for too long the biology of the rumen shifts, butterfat slides and overall health of the herd is negatively impacted. But how can you tell if your herd has SARA? In this episode, fellow podcasters of the Coffee Sketch Podcast, Kurt Neiswender and Jamie Crawley, join her for a conversation on the current state of architectural practice and their vision for its future. Jamie currently serves as the Design Lead for the Texas Historical Commission, while Kurt is an Assistant Professor of Practice at Lawrence Technological University and owner of Urban Colab Architecture. First, we reflect on the Young Architects Forum (YAF), where Evelyn and Kurt initially connected, and the significance of organizations like the National Associates Committee (NAC) in fostering professional growth, innovation, and collaboration within the field. Then, we discuss the evolving role of technology in design, the significance of interdisciplinary collaboration, and Jamie's viewpoint on preserving historical architecture alongside changing landscapes. Kurt also shares his experience of starting his own practice and the impact of diversifying his income. How many studio projects in a typical architecture curriculum actually start out with the name system building as the prompt? Most schools don't have that. That's a reality that a lot of students moving into practice will have to face. I think it's important for them to be challenged by it to a certain degree. If it means education needs to up its game and teach in a different kind of way – I think it's really important. - Jamie CrawleyTo wrap up the episode, Kurt and Jamie share their advice for studying young architects and their thoughts and goals as they move into 2024. A good bed of coals will keep your cooker humming along smoking bbq for what seems like forever. I liken Shawn Bevins to a good bed of coals, little rain, no worries; it's still burning. I first met Shawn after Hamrforge while he was building out Hellrazr. We spoke around the time of his new grill releases. Fast forward to September 23 we are knee deep in the biggest train looking cooker I've seen. Plus his heart tried to check out but he wouldn't allow it to quit….. So we are headed back north to Quebec Canada this week to get the first word from Shawn on his recent bbq transition to what's new in his bbq world. He's hosting bbq classes as well as other food courses right from his outdoor kitchen. Full disclosure; we went deep on this one we speak weekly about so much positive in bbq and when you're forced to transition or die its difficult at best. Lots of life lessons and tidbits to take from it. Trying to slow down the conversation enough to have it in a single episode was tough. We even chatted post episode. Just didn't seem to have a final word to end with, we probably could have gone four hours chatting about the bbq lifestyle.

“It slowed me down. It made me realize so many beautiful things around me. I paid more attention. I paid more attention to what the fire crackling sounded like, to the chipmunks outside, the snow falling around me.” We're in great company with Emily Padan and Mauricio Padilla, Co-Founders and Owners of hinter, where they design innovative spaces hidden in nature with minimalist design and a climate positive business approach for guests to experience the world like never before, starting in Quebec, Canada.  hinter is a collaborative project - crafting spaces with like minded architects, concepting interiors with soulful designers, curating partnerships with local artisans - all with the intention to create destinations where guests can leave behind their baggage and find themselves in nature.  In this episode, Emily and Mauricio share how they are inspired to build a space where their community can be inspired, and how recently this inspiration has led them to grow their sense of place naturally, digitally, and internationally.  Top Takeaways [1:40] How they took the leap into a new relationship and new business together - Mauricio from a career in the software industry, and Emily from a career as an elementary school teacher.  [3:35] From growing up with the backdrop of the Andes in Ecuador, to seeking out hikes across Canada, to falling in love with the Nordics during international travels - Mauricio got lost in the beauty of the natural world, finding his way home with hinter.  [11:45] As they look back on their 1 year wedding anniversary, Emily shares why having a “third thing” is healthy in any relationship. [16:50] How “hinter,” German for “behind” or “hidden” came to be - from being hidden in the woods to leaving behind your baggage to be present with yourself.  [21:30] hinter is much more than just a space to stay, they are spaces to inspire - “livable showrooms” filled with unique work by local artists to be experienced and purchased directly.  [25:40] Sustainability is ingrained in every inch of Hinter spaces, so much so that Emily and Mauricio have made it their mission to give back more than they take. [30:30] Wanting to have more impact beyond the physical property itself, “the hinter planet” is building a community and conversation in the digital world around design, culture, sustainability, wellness and more.  [37:40] Coming Soon - the hinter outpost, a landscape hotel and hidden gem nestled in the nature of Vermont, reimagining what hospitality can be when you learn from the past and build towards the future.  Notable Mentions  O-p-e-n Guided Meditation Fellow Products Coffee Bang & Olufsen Speakers  Inspiring Architects: Olson Kundig & Peter Zumthor Visit For Yourself hinter website | 10% OFF with code STAYINGOODCOMPANY @hintercompany @hinterhouse Stay In Good Company Website

Their findings showed that indoor plants can actually clean air of cancer causing volatile organic compounds like formaldehyde, and benzene. These chemical compounds are actually found everywhere. Silva Santé  So, there's more energy basically, I would say, in a fresh sprig of mint, or basil, or anything that you pick from your garden, basically, than there is in a whole processed meal. They're not there just for weed killer. In fact, don't put weed killer on them, save them. Silva SantéIf you are taking in some kind of herbs, keep fresh basil around all the time. That is actually adaptogenic herb. So, an adaptogenic is a plant that will go and find what's not balanced in your body and balance it for you. It's not complicated. Silva Santé 16:14 Sage is excellent as well, but I would mostly suggest it for women who are menopausing, it does lower your body temperature. So, you might not want to take it if you have if you're already like chilly if you have a problem with being more cold and then I wouldn't use sage but I suggest sage all the time for my clients who are menopausal because it really does help with the hot flashes.   About Silvana Santé: A Natural Health Consultant and author. Since 1996, I've specialized in the use of therapeutic plants in various forms and their incorporation in the preparation of daily meals. In 2019, I was a guest on a talk show called Bienvenue chez Cécile Diane which airs on CTRB TV; a French station in Quebec Canada where I showcased a few of my recipes. Due to popular demand, I documented these savory recipes and more! The Silva Santé cookbook is chock-full of information on the benefits of all the ingredients used in the recipes, a section on essential oils, plus a chart of edible flowers. Now available in French and English.
