Hello Libration Nation! This week we are discussing Still Life with Woodpecker by Tom Robbins. This is a love story… kind of. It's about a princess, an outlaw, a lot of philosophical rambling, and a surprising number of Camel cigarettes. Tom Robbins basically asks: how do you make love stay? The answers are weird, hilarious, and occasionally involve explosives. I'm so excited for my guest this week: Michael Bickett is an award-winning podcaster with over a decade of experience and 1,000+ podcast credits. As the Founder and COO of Certified Crucial, he helps creators monetize their podcasts through eco-friendly, custom merchandise solutions. Michael is also the Founder and CEO of Geeks Under the Influence, an award-winning digital media company and podcast network. A mentor for the RVA Community of Podcasters, he's passionate about making the podcast industry more inclusive and accessible. With expertise in branding, monetization, and community-building, Michael is a sought-after speaker on topics like creator-driven merchandise, co-branded deals, and creating equitable opportunities in digital spaces. Since Tom Robbins did spend some time here in Richmond, I wanted to pick a drink that is local. We went with Kopper Kettle's Bourbon Whiskey In this Episode Geeks Under the Influence Digital Media Certified Crucial Michael Bickett Linktree Village Café - Richmond, Virginia Books by Tom Robbins On the Road - Jack Kerouac Books by Kurt Vonnegut - Or listen to my Slaughterhouse Five Episode

Queerdo Babes From The Horror Pod-O-Rama

Welcome back to Queerdo Babes From the Horror Pod-O-Rama with its goofy but excited host, Murphy. Murphy is a horror enthusiast seeking to immerse themselves further in the genre by watching, reading, researching, playing, and of course discussing aspects both hidden and obvious particularly from a queer point of view. Today is a solo episode on the topic of one of Murphy's horror roots, which involves The 13 Ghosts of Scooby Doo, Vincent Price, and Camp as sensibility. expressed on geeks under the influence are that of the panelists and not of our sponsors 0:11 amazon.com and t public parental discretion is advised 0:17 [Music] i find it kind of funny when some an actor that's kind of fallen off the 0:23 wagon a little bit as far as like good roles has to come back because there's a sequel to something that they were like really good in years before so all of a 0:30 sudden billy zane is apparently like you gotta back for something i think phantom two phantom two no um he 0:36 was good he was the bad guy in the magroover series oh that's true yeah but the one that ended spoil ahead of 0:43 time spoilers for multiverse and madness because yeah for this whole thing spoiler spoilers good disclaimer read 0:50 the title the same dude that played uh black bolt in the 0:56 shitty show in human series that didn't make a pilot i don't think yeah because it was [ __ ] garbage it was it was 1:02 like it looked like a 1996 superhero show [Music] 1:07 it's absolutely bad [ __ ] bad 90s cgi yes it was so [ __ ] bad the the plot was bad the 1:15 script was bad the acting was bad everything was [ __ ] so they could have used anybody but they're like well i guess you're kind of under contract 1:20 yeah under contract black bolts so they got the dude from the pilot series uh inhumans to play black bolt and i was 1:27 like is that the same actor i'd look it up because who [ __ ] knows yeah who cares he didn't say [ __ ] and you can 1:33 imagine him getting the phone call from marvel and him being like really like 1:38 is this you is that you steve steve are you [ __ ] or maybe they're hoping some people will go back to disney plus and 1:45 watch inhumans going i guess i want to figure out about this black bold character i mean they have the rights it's it's on 1:52 [ __ ] disneyland it on disney plus it is agents of shield is too and that is an underrated show that shows that that 1:57 is awesome that is but not that you've got the rights yeah no no that is overrated because 2:03 whatever the level of production yeah but you know who did know who he was was the bernie spears fans were like oh my 2:08 god it's the guy from crossroads what's that that's right you said that he was in crossroads he was the love 2:13 interest in crossroads the wonderful 2002 uh holy 2:19 [ __ ] britney spears oh god that's a connection i never thought about yep nope yeah but the britney spears dated 2:24 black bolt yeah yeah that's uh not something i expected either she was dating justin timberlake then but he was 2:30 in the meeting with him too many he was drifters they were going on a 2:36 road trip and he was the bad boy and then they have sex and she's not a girl spoilers come on 2:42 i haven't seen it yet oh damn it's good is her mom and oh well you know dana creates her dad 2:49 like porky's i'm sorry dan i didn't that's news to me i had no idea dana was in a [ __ ] britney spear spears movie 2:56 until right now karen manning and so wait wait so the blues brothers 2000 3:01 which is dan aykroyd and john goodman yeah dan aykroyd was britney spears's uh dad in crossroads and john goodman was 3:09 the chick's dad in coyote ugly oh that's right holy [ __ ] around the 3:15 same time yeah maybe britney spears should be in marvel because zoe saldana was also in crossroads she's a gamora 3:22 it's like what's going on here you know what you know i'm here for it honestly if they decide to just give 3:28 britney spears a role that is up to her acting talents um 3:34 then why not you know it wouldn't take that long to connect to kevin bacon yeah oh yeah that [ __ ] done in like five like 3:40 two minutes you can't yeah you can connect that oh easily yeah there's too many players what we are connecting to 3:45 on this episode of geeks on the influence is the multiverse of madness doctor strange two that just released in 3:51 the theaters uh we for once are actually gonna be able to uh talk about the property pretty close 3:57 to when it came out yeah so wow that's always a nice little added bonus that's progress 4:03 this movie of course was directed by sam raimi there was a previous director that was attached i can't remember who was 4:09 the previous director we'll look that up but uh samurai this thing is like covered oh 4:16 my goodness yes oh yeah it's very reminiscent of spider-man 2 where there's just that whole shot of 4:22 the surgery room with the camera review so much roominess in this movie so so 4:28 much and that's what i want to get into on the first part of this episode is like how rainy's stamp 4:35 works in a in a marvel cinematic universe property and if it was you know 4:40 too much not enough and how how that was affected but let's get into the intro before anything else thank you so much for listening to this episode of geeks 4:46 on the influence all things dr strange and the multiverse of madness 5:07 or you will be dead 5:12 uh also doctor strange with a ponytail was a really i love that that's his comment he's seen his own dead self he's 5:18 like oh ponytail yeah not that's myself dead i'm a ponytail that was a that's america's ass sort of 5:24 play off of that's what they were doing i think i'm glad it was just a ponytail because from the trailer i thought he 5:30 was wearing cornrows because he only saw him briefly like there's like he just came back from the bahamas 5:37 there's some reality where he does have the cornrows i mean no yeah we just didn't get there yeah i mean they were strange they were all paint at one point 5:44 anything is possible no there's an episode of parks and rec where ron swanson yes with tammy his 5:50 tammy two right and over one night he's got corn rolls and his mustache you know friction i mean i don't know uh bendy 5:56 cover match with dreads uh if you watch sarah live they literally there's a skit and they do a flashback and he's wearing 6:02 dreads and holding a bong i was like never thought i'd see that oh right yeah i remember that yeah 6:08 that was actually the past couple of snl's have been surprisingly funny yeah yeah actually he held he held his own 6:14 really well on there i was speaking of holding their own we've got a pretty solid panel to talk 6:19 about i'm trying to find any center i'm like america chavez trying to find 6:24 the portal to the next [ __ ] dimension over here um a white drinking extraordinaire and uh 6:30 all things let's talk pop we've got tori sipe here hello hello everyone thank you for joining us on this voyage through 6:37 the multiverse oh you're welcome it's my pleasure absolutely you just came back from uh to the states you were on a 6:43 vacation i was i was in london london england london town just london town it was it 6:49 was quite lovely you caught uh a musical while you're out there once i did i saw 6:55 the back to the future music i was hoping it was the avengers from hawkeye no i saw the back to the 7:00 future musical and i cried at the end and it was amazing they don't have it here no they do not my my mug broke 7:07 though and i was so sad about that so that was a bummer but i bought like over a hundred dollars worth of merch so you 7:13 kind of have to yeah you have to but the delorean like spoiler the delorean is on stage and 7:20 then at the end of the show it they're in it like who plays doc and marty and then it comes out over and it was right 7:26 above my head and it was and it flips upside down and it sounds amazing it's absolutely amazing 7:34 don't so don't do acid before you watch it because you might actually freak out no you probably should 7:39 i think you should do acid that sounds like a great experience like a dare yeah 7:45 and not like the one that they did in sixth grade where they told you not to do drugs right so you did it anyways yeah the one that didn't listen to the 7:52 cop that came out in sixth grade to say don't do drugs uh we've got [ __ ] you hunter here what's up [ __ ] what's up 7:58 you uh also got to see part of this movie before a lot of other people right yeah we got to see the exact first part 8:05 till the big reveal it literally cut off and title came up right before you find 8:10 out again we've already said the spoiler thing about scarlet witch being behind everything yeah so you see them talking and then a 8:17 title card so all of us left that theater having no clue even watching the first 10 minutes 8:22 scarlet witch was behind everything so i did appreciate this movie that yeah yeah whoa 8:28 um with this movie and it's the same rainy thing is that he likes to hit the ground running with action in his movies yeah 8:34 if even if there's uh switching around the timelines of when things happen he wants it to hit 8:40 with a punch right at the gate so like there's something actually that happens and this movie is no it's just that ten minutes there was that little bit of 8:46 rainy because you have where he stabs that uh creature in the eye and pulls the eye out yeah the other smart movies 8:53 you would have the stab in the eye and then cut but raymie's like can i get away with the eyeball coming out i mean it's you 8:59 know not a human so yep full eyeball that was awesome and also i think the eyeball made like a 9:05 noise which is definitely a rainy thing to have some like cartoonish level sound 9:10 effects involved with some of this [ __ ] mm-hmm and what it is juicy as it could be yep juicy eyeballs that's what he 9:17 loves speaking of juicy oh man oh yeah you are next to him so he's a 9:22 lot of people that's cool i guess i get the dry rub today yeah the uh yeah the dry hand jobs are from a 9:29 different hand uh this time around less juicy a little less less juicy uh we've got the the sexual macadamia 9:37 nut next to me um well that just happened to everyone's ear holes but hi 9:43 uh kyle smash is here what's up man uh taking in a co-host role this evening i know it's been a little bit since you've 9:49 co-hosted been a long time yeah yeah yeah yeah low down slow downs usually he's pretty pretty on it but uh 9:56 today i guess he couldn't be here with us it just happens yep absolutely especially if you get older and i'm thankful for it 10:05 move now that's right yeah i will be receiving the driver you want your seat back [ __ ] take it from me 10:11 kyle's gonna spray paint on the chair after he leaves kyle was here steven's gonna be like yeah it dried 10:17 it's not going to affect me and i'm like yeah that was my chair i'm actually pissed not mad at all 10:22 well to my left i have you yeah habitus maximus yes the the hobbit uh 10:29 mike hobbit here from geeks and the influence guypodcast.com for links to all the different shows in the network 10:35 including this one uh make sure to rate review subscribe all those cool things you do with podcasts let's get into it 10:42 because there's plenty to talk about holy [ __ ] man there was so much going on with this movie and both good and bad going on 10:48 with this movie i did in fact very much enjoy this movie i thought it was all right excellent 10:53 great yeah it was such a fun popcorn movie ride it you know it was pretty much non-stop it had a 11:00 little bit of it had a couple moments of just like build up uh but for the most part it was pretty 11:06 much full speed ahead and the parts that were built up was like in with the illuminati and stuff where really important [ __ ] was happening i will say 11:12 the best scene in the movie my downfall is is that if you haven't watched one 11:18 division you might be a little bit lost i i i just mean that like why is she obsessed 11:23 with these kids that i don't remember seeing it in the game like right so there's a little bit of kind of required 11:28 watching and that's the one thing i've kind of told people is like you have watch one division okay you're good yeah 11:34 and there's even a moment where they mention the small town yeah but it's not even like a where they go over it again 11:40 for anybody that didn't know what happened and it's like i mean she took over a small town they're like what and like yeah whatever yeah and then they 11:45 just don't he's like i'm not here for that yeah yeah that doesn't just like the three sentences of filling in people 11:52 that hadn't seen it and they're just like nah now we're not gonna well written script i thought uh the 11:59 scarlet witch's uh character got up enough time to say 12:05 hey how powerful she is i mean she is so [ __ ] powerful that when i mean she 12:11 she's basically i guess if she had had that power and end game endgame wouldn't have had happened i would say the movie 12:17 definitely met my expectations because i'm a huge fan of horror right knowing raymie like oh [ __ ] he's gonna be in 12:23 this and obviously i love marvel movies so it's this perfect blend of having someone like raymie who does his stuff 12:29 has a little bit of horror elements without going too overwhelming that it's still a marvel movie so yeah are we surprised 12:35 that it didn't get a rated r i mean there were a couple of things in there that was like really that passed it was 12:41 pg-13 it's pg-13 i think it's it may seem like an r compared to marvel movies 12:46 but if you're looking at other pg-13 movies it's uh i will say i did notice like there was 12:51 like more blood like when uh captain carter gets uh you know 12:57 gutted with the shield the blood is dripping and it's like you see blood and other marvel 13:02 things but the people are still alive yeah oh i i think there's a director's cut the the 13:08 rr where you see captain carter slide in half i mean oh yeah i mean 13:13 yeah go ship style yeah and then also where black bolt you see 13:19 the back of his head actually yeah that was that was shocking yeah talk about using the same tools 13:24 that they used in end game of having the highest highs of the movie and the lowest lows right next to one another so that you're like holy [ __ ] that's 13:30 amazing too oh no uh was happening with the reveal of the illuminati when you have all these 13:35 appearances that you're like [ __ ] stoked to [ __ ] about and then they just all get [ __ ] burnt yeah because you're sitting there going 13:41 all right well these are some powerful [ __ ] nothing's gonna happen to them and then all of a sudden it's just 13:47 like one wall goes down then the other then all these soldiers and then another and it's just like all right let's get her 13:52 and no one comes out on top even captain marvel which i was surprised because i would think if anyone really could 13:59 head to head would be her i did like how the guys like black bolt and 14:05 reed richards they died immediately and then it's like captain carter and captain marvel giving each other a look like oh man 14:12 but i also love that it's straight up like that what happened in the day after tomorrow and every movie where somebody like warns them of the oncoming badness 14:19 that's about to happen and they're just like oh you're cute you're really the problem yeah we're gonna lock you up yeah big weirdo he's 14:26 like [ __ ] scarlet witch is coming she's gonna [ __ ] [ __ ] up and they're like we've met exactly two doctor 14:31 stranges and both kind of sucked so all doctor strangers suck what about scarlet witch like you don't 14:37 really know scarlet witch okay yeah worse i don't know what to do and she's [ __ ] me the soccer mom out in the 14:42 suburbs yeah we're worried about her really our problem i think we're gonna be just fine just really condescending 14:49 [ __ ] we have to talk about uh uh professor x what they did for him was the old 14:55 old-school [ __ ] cartoon which was great they gave them a little bit of music wheelchair hover wheelchair and you start feeling i've watched it 15:01 actually feeling like a kid i was like oh this is sweet and then all of a sudden and then all of a sudden it was not 15:07 sweet anymore it was a dead [ __ ] real quick and broke his neck in his own 15:12 mind oh the music cue by the way when he rolls up is literally from the 90s no it 15:17 is yeah it's exactly and i lost my [ __ ] i gotta say like when he's in the mind and it's just like the quiet and the red 15:24 smoke it's such a sam raimi like oh totally yeah and then just like her coming up like it felt very evil dead to 15:31 me and i just like and you're just like oh like i love that moment so much it totally it was like a hybrid of that and 15:37 dragged me to hell like in the way that i was shot from behind versus yeah yeah you're just like something oh when she 15:43 comes when she comes scarlett comes through that mirror and the way she did it that's straight up rammy like 15:49 thousand yeah like yeah that's driving me to hell with yeah that's a 100 i mean he he put as much as 15:55 he could into this movie they gave him a lot of leeway and that's a lot of the reviews that i've been seeing and people 16:01 have different opinions on whether it's a good or a bad thing but this definitely is the most not feeling like 16:06 the other marvel movies marvel movies out of all of them that um you've got some connective tissue for sure but like 16:13 this feels way more of a sammy rainy movie than an mcu movie right yeah and that i consider that no that's fine good 16:19 thing for the most part i feel like there is a little bit of a mixture of what they were trying to do thrown in 16:24 and i think that's because of switching directors last minute and they also had i think had to switch an actor or two um 16:30 in in the movie so there was a challenge going into it rushing some stuff so it couldn't be 16:36 fully his vision he was still working with producers that wanted specific things you had those moments that were very marvel 16:42 and then all of a sudden was like yeah kitty schmeck like [ __ ] bruce campbell punching 16:48 himself in the face over and over again three weeks yeah he can't control his hand and he's 16:53 getting punched in the face by it i wonder where we've seen that before yeah that was a great little like love letter 17:01 to especially to the fans who love the movie so much with his his his possessed hand i would i was hoping to see just 17:08 something a little more from like bruce campbell like he likes to put him in these roles that's like a mate or d or you know just 17:15 a side like you know roach coach on the side but i wanted to i was hoping there was going to be a little bit bigger role 17:21 for him well usually his bruce campbell's cameos are that somebody that's annoying our main character no i 17:26 get it yeah well there you go they're like a mini little antagonist i just hope it was ad-libbed because this 17:31 whole thing was like that's a good-looking cloak man did you get that from the you stole that from the museum didn't you you're one of them takers you 17:37 just take take take you're gonna take the takes and then you see the cloak in this universe and it's blue and you're 17:43 like bro yeah you literally own a pizza ball cart one 17:48 block from where they keep the doctor strange cloak you don't know what color it is 17:54 probably there's different edits and cuts of different things oh yeah i'm sure they threw out a bunch like we'll go with that one well 18:00 that's fine yeah oh yeah the visuals alone in this movie to to throw that together 18:05 either was fun or maddening like i can see probably more the latter i like when they went through like the 20 different 18:11 dimensions 18:21 it's like really hard to eat i like the built-in that uh that she's just she's always looking for food yeah 18:28 that's her whole face see what this uh universe or that dimensions pizza is like you know like yep 18:35 well that's kind of close to over me that would also be like what's pizza like here pizza balls apparently we talk 18:40 about america chavez she did a good job for the i don't think they gave her enough in my opinion like her role was 18:47 there yes and i get that it was like to go from one universe and that was kind of it and then she had a a victory 18:52 moment at the end but and that was it like so i'm i'm not totally uh 18:58 up on that specific character what is the future in terms of uh doctor strange 19:04 carmitage in terms of learning magic oh i mean i don't know if that's 19:09 something in the comics that she goes to is that something that came up with the movie kind of something new but 19:15 the character's a little different too because i think this is the youngest iteration that we've seen over she's like a teenager in this one and she's like a young woman in the comics yeah 19:22 okay yeah they actually changed that because um she auditioned when she was like 13 and was like i don't know i'm 19:28 i'm not gonna whatever and then they called her back and we're like hey so uh you're a american shabbos and she's like 19:34 oh okay so [ __ ] her for that being the response yeah oh wow cool i mean she was so 19:40 shocked because she was like i'm not gonna get it i'm cool with her being american but [ __ ] her for like oh cool like all right zoomer [ __ ] she's 19:47 probably gonna make room for my schedule i mean that's true that's totally cool like jenzy like whatever no she was just like so shocked 19:54 because it was written like it was written for like a older like i think her i think her age was 21 years old 19 20:01 20 and she was only 13 when she auditioned she was like i'm sorry you interrupted my tick tock yeah uh yeah 20:06 can you call back a little later i think her age works because it kind of makes strange take on a quicker responsibility 20:12 of a protector for her i mean like he's like you're trying to attack this girl because of her ability so i feel like it 20:18 works better with that well yeah and i get that in terms of his evolution and almost de-evolution in the movie 20:25 uh where he he he he becomes that arrogant [ __ ] again i mean he still does what he does 20:32 he protects but he's he's like almo like when he was a doctor he was super arrogant it's like he came back to that 20:38 and only to get and like all right we got to re-teach you this lesson and then that's what that's her role 20:43 right there was like teach him you know love yeah it's like in the beginning when he doesn't like bow and he's like you know 20:50 it's customary to bow to the guy exactly and then at the very end he bows and he's just like it's not he's like yeah 20:56 exactly yeah i guess i'll do it because i have all right okay but i find that him protecting 21:02 america like and the whole goal is carl witch is like i need to kill this chick and this girl 21:08 in order to see my kid so you're like so murder this one child so you can see 21:14 your other two kids all right that's brought up like right away yeah like right at the very beginning they're like hey scarlet witch so what you're saying 21:20 is that like kill this kid because kids are precious and you need 21:25 to be nears but also like [ __ ] their mom too yeah like like [ __ ] that scarlet witch yeah 21:32 and that's what's gonna happen to the mom there and she's like well i guess i [ __ ] murder her there's no i i won't know that squirrel 21:39 which had when she gets pulled out after attacking illuminati like you're just waking up just covered in motor oil and 21:46 human blood like what kind of blackout did i just [ __ ] have 21:51 which believes the question because i got into the jaeger again yeah right goddamn tequila 21:59 now i it begs the question because they have different explanations for things in this whole it's not just a multiverse 22:05 right there's a multiple timeline and then there's pocket dimensions and then there's an alternate universe so 22:11 the alternate is like ours only slightly different depending on choices made so on and so forth timeline 22:17 is something similar but doesn't affect the multiverse 22:22 or is the multiverse the multiverses incorporate into the the timeline as 22:27 well so the answer is rick and morty i mean come on oh [ __ ] like basically as and i'm not going to 22:33 that's my science excuse me as time continues every choice that every human makes or species makes uh splinters 22:40 another timeline right so that timeline then creates another universe yes so the pocket dimension like where the 22:46 gods live is something completely different that's in between the space so does that mean we're gonna get a gym 22:53 mr fantastic yeah and that's keeps with it or was this just a fun cameo uh 22:58 the thing is i think that was such a fan choice for so many years that there have been conversations that 23:05 john krasinski has met with marvel before that is a thing he actually went out for captain america yeah he's a screen tester yeah screen tester for 23:11 captain america i think the new rumor is that he may direct and that is the new rumor maybe and act i'm not sure but uh 23:17 initially the director of the spider-man movies uh was gonna be doing the fantastic four movie but he dropped from 23:22 that project and krasinski has expressed recently that he would love to not only be in the marvel movies but direct one 23:27 as well because you you've got two different ways to look at it you've got where in the illuminati professor x is 23:33 the professor ex we're used to apparently the black bolt that 23:38 is accurate that i didn't know everybody was like marvel okay quite cool but he doesn't have to you have 23:44 that you go okay so i guess that's how it works but then you have that part in wand division where they gave you the 23:50 big middle finger where it's like look it's quicksilver you're like holy [ __ ] that's the quicksilver from the x-men 23:56 oh no no no [ __ ] you assad and so you don't know you have no idea who you're who's going to be that 24:04 but they're doing exactly what they did in the [ __ ] comic books is it like if it's not battle world uh with secret wars or something there's 24:11 gonna be some sort of they've already called it what's the event where the different universes smashed together and 24:16 one survives or they meld together that's i i'm thinking dc yeah that's infinite crisis yeah yeah 24:23 they talked about in doctor strange that there was the the incursion oh yeah so two universes collapsing in 24:29 on each other they either merge together or one destroys the other right what they did with the ultimate and the regular marvel 24:37 universes so all they're doing is they're setting up that like the x-men and a fantastic four are in the same universe 24:43 uh that is what they're suggesting or they're the this version of that yeah and we've only seen 24:48 john krasinski and professor xavier yeah so it makes sense that there's gonna be some version of that universe that ends 24:55 up incursioning into our 616 universe and then that's how you get uh a 25:00 different captain america and a different iron man because like they melded and then one disappeared or replaced we still have eight one eight 25:07 x-men who are coming to revenge put some revenge on professor x yeah and then like the six one six it's like you know 25:14 john krasinski could be in it like he could be he just isn't maybe he isn't reed richards yet like maybe he isn't 25:20 there isn't a fantastic four yet in that in our universe he's still in college his 25:26 timeline could be different of when he gets the abilities yeah i mean that was like the biggest reaction in the entire 25:32 time when i was in the theater which it was very low energy but when he came on it was like oh i was like yeah i was 25:37 freaking out everyone was freaking out so it's just like i mean i want again they can do whatever they want but i want that in like she-hulk or something 25:44 like one of the disney plush shows where they just run across john krasinski as like a client or something it's like 25:50 i was a pleasure working with you bleed blitzards please 26:07 so i don't know i think they might but it's still too early i think they were able to throw that in there because they 26:13 still have negotiation power with john krasinski being like we can replace you like it is 26:18 the multiverse we still have plenty of options that's the amazing thing about it because it's multiverse is that everything is and is not all the same 26:25 time it's like schrodinger's cat like and you don't know until you look until you can see it you guys walk on red like 26:32 right exactly so i mean that was some slider [ __ ] right there [Laughter] 26:37 i did not think we'd have a slider reference goddamn how did you not think i know a multiverse it's a multiverse 26:43 show you did not think there would be some jerry o'connell reference knew it [ __ ] you hunter 26:49 john krazensi is just gonna go and be like i'm jim [ __ ] i was i made a quiet place give me the job 26:55 we just have uh what's her name that plays pam on the office she can be sue or you just have john krazinski play 27:01 john krasinski in 616 and he's married to like emily blunt yeah are themselves people want emily blunt to be oh i know 27:08 sue but that's how you do it where she would do they're just the actors john krasinski and and uh emily blunt and 27:14 then when the convergence happens there's storm and reed richards and they just kind of annihilate john krasinski and uh and uh 27:22 emily emily blunt i think everyone was hoping for all kinds of crazy cameos everyone was like oh chris evans is 27:27 going to be human torch and like and i was like they're not going to do that i don't think he wants to do that like i 27:32 want to it's true in one universe but we don't have to show that that's the shame 27:38 universe he doesn't want to bring up the shame universe people were talking about with every bit of full chested 27:45 confidence that there was going to be this cameo or that cameo that everybody had it dialed in and figured out 27:50 everybody was like 100 zero doubt deadpool in this movie gonna happen well now you have after 27:57 spider-man now you're kind of like what are we gonna see because they kind of set it up now i mean having 28:05 all the spider-man's in that one movie so now you kind of are waiting like who are you gonna bring in and this movie kind of 28:11 helps encourage that with oh [ __ ] there's [ __ ] professor x yep how many times did you see tom cruise is 28:17 tony stark oh god oh yeah i had a group on facebook somebody posted a trailer that somebody made that they 28:23 incorporated tom cruise of tom cruise as iron man and it was it was really well done he probably would 28:30 have done a good job uh i don't think anybody would have fully i wouldn't have fully accepted it 28:36 no i mean that iron man movie was supposed to come out in the 90s that's the whole thing well yeah i know yeah 28:41 that was like at the height of like tom cruise where anything he was in was like a 100 million dollar movie so 28:47 and i don't somehow didn't just fall through hey i don't think tom cruise would have like 28:53 signed up for that unless he had a chance to be iron man in one of the multiverses more than just the cameo yeah well that and you would have gotten 29:00 like the terrible [ __ ] stallone judge red movie where's judge red who's not 29:06 wearing the [ __ ] helmet most of the [ __ ] movie and i see a tom cruise iron man movie where literally he like 29:12 you get a couple shots of the mat the helmet on and then him not wearing well that's how they that's how they did it in the early 90s 29:19 they were like well how long have you dressed up as the superhero for like 10 minutes yeah david hasselhoff was uh nick nick 29:25 fury yeah yeah terrible i just like to bring that up just to be people i have the the last horror con we 29:32 went to i got i got a copy of that i did oh god it was like four dollars i got the fantastic four movie i was like i 29:38 gotta have it i think if you do a very light search on like some sort of tube site where you can 29:44 uh view different videos you might be able to find something regarding uh the you think so the uh hasselhoff yeah uh 29:52 i'm sure shield movie oh i'm sure it's on youtube already i have no doubt dude i'm trying to be chill yeah 30:00 um that movie's amazing now that would have been random i love it if they got any of the actors from the corpsmen 30:05 fantastic four to show up in this [ __ ] movie i i would have high-fived 30:10 everybody where's the bar they were paint like yeah you you don't have 30:15 a world where you can't do that at this point what if it's just like michael chiklis and everyone's like oh it's the 30:21 thing but he's just the cop from the shield yes 100 well that's where because there is going 30:28 to be a point where the where they're on like phase eight or nine of the of the marvel universe and they've done the 30:33 [ __ ] every trick they can do to incorporate stuff and get as big as possible and they're doing like the gods 30:39 that are above the uh the celestials they're going like up to the top tier of the gods that they're fighting and like that's the 30:45 most impossible thing and then they beat that like what do we do now and that's when star wars comes in and they just do 30:52 mega franchises coming on there's like indiana jones star wars marvel mashup movie 30:57 you i mean you could have had fun with it though and had a dimension where literally you show you know michael b jordan as you know his fa was he johnny 31:05 storm or whatever he was yeah bad thing and had some of the characters chris evans and 31:10 had him in this weird universe where it's the shame universe and then just just for like 31:16 15 seconds there's like the x-men in the deadpool movie where they're in just in that one scene yeah 31:21 that's what i'm saying literally just a quick shot of all the shane yeah yeah the dolphin waves his punisher that kind 31:26 of [ __ ] right here's how anything i was because there's a cartoon dimension you know that was one of my favorite ones oh 31:32 my god cartoon dimension and now all i could think was x-men it was the first thing that came to my mind was x-men 31:38 because that was one of the biggest cartoons at the time it still is uh but i wondered what they did with 31:45 that maybe that's the what if universe yeah oh man with multi-universes within it little pocket universities they do 31:51 the avengers assemble moment with the end of this series of phases and it just has like a [ __ ] orchestral version 31:57 like the x-men charging i'm just coming 32:02 everywhere you talk like mad max style like like with the big guitar like riding in 32:07 with the flames yeah they're just like x-men it's simple and it's like and it's like turned to animated 32:12 multiverse and they just start running so huge admin all of a sudden voice becomes ridiculous i'll get you about 32:18 your cube what's going on with my boys canada 32:24 i do i do find it interesting though that um you know in like spider-man they had you know all the three spider-man 32:30 they're all different they're all they're all peter parker but they're all different people and then in this like thing it's like oh no all the doctor 32:36 strangers look the same all the like like captain marvel's the same and all the doctor strangers sucked yeah i was 32:43 like how bad is that to be an [ __ ] on multiple verses like you're an [ __ ] in every one of these and then also 32:48 american shabbos is like what's the spider-man does he come does he she webs out his butt like she has no idea what a 32:54 spider-man i like his responsibilities like no no he did yeah i don't know is there only three peter parkers or those 33:00 the only three that's the only three that bled through because you have miles i mean there's probably other peter parker's that didn't get bitten by that 33:07 radioactive spider yeah oh you mean peter parker the guy that's the annoying photographer sure and there's other yeah 33:12 there's other iterations of spider-man but she didn't know what like any spider-man it'd be like a loki hybrid like what if like an alligator was bit 33:19 by this like well she hasn't been she named it she was that went to like 70 something 33:24 um universes so she hasn't been to all of them mm-hmm there's like infinite numbers yeah yeah and she's 33:30 been to like 70 something she's definitely been into three more 43 so than anyone else she's definitely the 33:36 authority on going to an alternate universe sure but where does like the loki thing play 33:42 like that thing because it's like oh no this is the timeline these alternate versions these very so it's like wait 33:47 aren't they from other universes then why are they getting yeah that brings like i get that they were 33:52 trying to with the show loki they were trying to do kang right obviously kang's gonna be the uh is he gonna be the big 33:58 bad i don't know it's either him or galactus it's one of the other king's supposed to be in the next uh ant-man 34:03 movie spontaneous right which is where apparently and i have watched it again i 34:08 saw it i saw somebody pause on it i don't know i don't know what it was but essentially in the quantum realm is 34:14 where the uh the tva is uh and that's where they exist outside 34:19 of time right in there and if you watch ant-man and the wasp if you go real slow to when he rescues his wife and they're 34:26 escaping it's starting to shrink down there's a little city there's a city under a dome inside this little pocket 34:33 and you you literally pause on it you can see it clear as [ __ ] day i'm not on the tva that's actually uh 34:38 uh that's where kang lived i think yeah i think that's his that's his so is that is that where he was seeing the timeline 34:45 from three hides pretty much is that what he had okay i did notice when they were going through all the multiverses 34:51 uh doctor strange in america you do see the quantum realm for like two seconds yep yeah yeah you do 34:57 so i think that's a good point for us to take the break oh yeah this half we got to do that whole thing um so you can 35:03 hear about some of the other shows on the network and when we come back well we're going to talk a little bit more about the multiverse of madness uh i try 35:10 to think up some dumb thing where we came back with like different names or accents or something 35:29 yes i have a pretty good british accent i think i don't know can you say hi we're supposed to do good accent oh [ __ ] can 35:35 you say harry potter harry potter yeah that's that's the multiverse where it's a guy where we do 35:41 good action yeah yeah yes everything i end up doing ends up sounding like australian and bad like just bad 35:47 australia it's just bad for me i don't think so wolverine from animated series is what you're saying yes okay yeah i 35:52 try to i try to do russian and it comes out jamaican i don't know 35:57 i don't know how you go from one to the other but that's pretty amazing i don't know but we'll try to figure that out on the 36:02 second half so stick around and we'll be right back coming straight from the mouths of madness i'm lowdown i'm fu hunter do you 36:10 love heart we [ __ ] do so this is podcast dedicated to all things world and as always join us or cry 38:10 we're back for the second half of geeks on the influence all things doctor strange in the multiverse of 38:16 madness that's how i hear it when i read the title just like that yeah just like me 38:24 um speaking of madness we're gonna talk about the madness that is having sponsors for your show it's a necessary 38:30 evil but fortunately at least one of our sponsors we like uh the first though 38:35 is our sponsor amazon.com uh which you use it everybody uses it it's a thing 38:40 that's necessary nowadays to get the products that you need so instead of just giving all your money directly over to amazon go through a 38:47 link at guipodcast.com that way some of the money that you spend on amazon goes to us instead of them so uh fight the 38:52 band by giving them most your money um but some of it doesn't go to them that's right that's that little bit thanks for 38:58 shopping today thanks for shopping it's called capitalist activism right there [Laughter] 39:04 it's captivism uh no i mean it is a is a necessary evil sometimes to uh to to use 39:09 the the amazons uh if you don't that's fine no problem we have another option for you and that is of course tea public 39:15 uh t public we have tons of designs and uh we got approval from the show runners 39:20 that we are going to be unveiling the listener illustration program on geeks 39:26 on their meaning that if you as a listener as a fan of the shows on the network if you have an inside joke that 39:33 you like from an episode if there's a logo that you want to play with uh if you want to do anything with any of the 39:38 show's stuff um as a design and want to submit it if we deem it to be worthy of 39:44 going on merchandise and it's not a terribly high bar but 39:49 there is a bar because i know you you [ __ ] you're as sarcastic and shitty as we are so you're gonna put in stick 39:54 figure drawings dude so do you put it on a shirt and it's just gonna be like me like humping stephen and stick figures 40:00 or something yeah things just got very strange so there is a line for sure but if it's 40:06 a solid design we like it we'll put it on a design and as a thank you for sending in the design uh we'll send you 40:12 a shirt or a mug um you know your choice of of the design uh free of charge just 40:17 as a thank you for uh submitting your design to us so if you want a cool design that's 40:23 uh network specific and you want a shirt of it send it to us 40:30 if we like it we will use it as design the agreement is we get to use it for our stuff but you also get a free thing 40:39 yeah so that way you can get in on the fun uh send us some designs if you have a cool idea you want to make a shirt 40:45 that picks on me go for it there's already the shots first please some listener would you like 40:52 suggestions [Laughter] so yeah if you if there's a funny inside joke from an episode that's a great 40:58 choice to make some cool stuff um just on deeply upsetting we talked about a haunted beach full of doll heads so um 41:05 there's plenty of room to work with that there so uh yeah and if you don't want to 41:11 design something for us just go to our store at gypodcast.com t public where there's all sorts of 41:17 designs already on the site very cool stuff on there and there's sales all the time so from instead of 20 bucks for 41:23 sure it'll be 13 or 14 so uh just keep track of the site check it off and on uh guipodcast.com store 41:31 and uh mugs stickers buttons uh laptop bags 41:36 pillows [ __ ] t-shirts whatever baby onesies lay on our face yes 41:41 sit our geeks on the influences sit on our face so that is that that's our new bumper 41:47 sticker method for uh for supporting us is to check out t public there's some that's right stuff on there 41:53 and hopefully some of your designs to be popping on there in the very near future um and you can just send in your designs 41:59 that geeks under the influence gmail.com and link it to like a google drive picture or whatever and i'll just make 42:06 sure it's over three thousand by three thousand size so that it'll it's big enough that it'll be high quality that 42:11 seems fair yeah okay so um yeah that is our sponsors and now into 42:17 what really drives the madness on this show we're talking about what oh wait no we we're going to do a 42:24 live version oh yeah yeah yes thank you kyle's on the show 42:29 yeah we uh we do a live version of it so let me uh i'm gonna do one better 42:34 actually here i don't know here we go 42:41 it'll loop yeah though 42:46 hey what we're drinking we're getting drunk 42:53 you want to know we're here you go hey 42:58 [ __ ] okay yeah the music has to be in the background 43:04 oh yeah it's a lot easier a little head-bopping my mind's like that's right there was one moment you 43:10 were just like i think i'm going to sit no you started being like hey i was like really nice 43:16 too i was trying to count with like when do i come in so uh what we're drinking tomorrow 43:22 you've got a little uh little themed drink that you're drinking on there let's take a look at that what are you 43:27 sipping on yeah so i'm having a uh syrah uh it's called sixth sense it's 43:33 a michael david wine and it has a really cool label it's also a very good wine out of lodi california very good wine 43:40 maker um have lots of good wines but it has a little hand with a eye in the middle so very doctor strange cool if 43:47 you drink enough do you see dead people or is that a dad joke i think that depends on what kind of 43:53 like ptsd you're suffering from yeah uh and how much it away the ghost of war 43:59 past um speaking of thematically on the label being very similar to the choice for the 44:05 share this evening is um i decided to share the pulp free mimosa inspired uh 44:10 beer from trapezium and on the label it's an orange with a eye that looks very eerily similar to dr strange's 44:17 third eye that opens up on his foreheads this took me by surprise this is a this is a summer drink it's a citrus 44:23 treat it is a citrus treat yes this is a dangerous i mean it's only five point 44:28 five percent but it's still a dangerous session that's pretty easy oh yes now if you've listened to me on this podcast 44:34 before you know that i notoriously do not like beer so i have waited to take a sip until this very moment 44:40 to see if i enjoy it here we go which i don't know it smells good so i think i might you might this is pretty 44:45 approaching it's citrusy it's i give it like uh it's very orangey 44:51 i'll give it like a like a six out of ten okay there you go all right 44:56 yeah yeah that was a full like it says pulp free because you know what i don't want to drink [ __ ] pulp in my beer 45:10 i do like how they had to like put that on the label so you're just like and like you give people this beer and like 45:16 and they're in pulp and then they're back that's what you just [ __ ] out yeah yeah i would say this is a 45:21 solid six out of ten i i enjoy this oh solid yeah no for this is i can definitely see the mimosa inspired 45:28 from this i've had moses before uh i think what they call it in the hood is the brass monkey 45:34 is uh you know what this is a vacation this is like a beach vacation beer like 45:40 you could you know get a case of this or more and take it out and just have let the kids play on the beach get [ __ ] faced in 45:46 the sun that's awesome man good just to watch over the sharks make sure they're they're playing close to the shoreline 45:52 that's good you should watch over the sharks up my rating to like a seven and a half because oh nice i think i might 45:58 try to buy this and drink this yeah awesome i'm pretty excited about this thank you that's great and i got this 46:04 actually right down the street at union market they have this available so this is a summer drink definitely this 46:10 is a summer drink it is you know it's gonna be a little more expensive it's like that 10 11 range for a six-pack 46:15 sure that's the quality and the pulp removal the pull the pull-ups that's why it's more expensive exactly it's a very 46:20 expensive pulp removal process the mimosa inspired alone should that that marketing alone as long as they put that 46:27 big enough they need to put that they need to increase that it's fun [ __ ] pulling them free they need to put mimosa inspired this [ __ ] would sell 46:34 like benedict in this [ __ ] my son especially in this brunch set about uh three blocks from here a trapezium will 46:41 be opening their church hill location by the end of the year hell yeah so there's an old masonic temple that's 46:48 about three blocks away that that's massive with these huge pillars in front that they're turning into the trapezium 46:53 churchill brewery so i also just want to say when they mean pulp free because there's an orange with an eye uh on the 47:00 can that they actually like stab the eye and take the eye out of the world yes 47:05 and that's what they mean by pulled free yeah uh no eye pulp in uh no no eyes 47:10 no eye pulp no eye pulp can taste that no eye that's right it's so good yeah this is really tasty and yeah definitely 47:16 a brunch beer beverage for [ __ ] days or like poolside or beach side this would be a [ __ ] fantastic this is 47:22 like hey get drunk but not realize it till it's too late kind of drink oh this is standing up from laying on 47:28 your beach towel for too long and going oh no i had four of them and now i'm sunburned 47:36 i was sitting on i was laying on my back now i'm on my face i don't know what happened your kid like full speed 47:42 sprints and jumps into the deep end you're like no oh oh oh no 47:48 thank you yes the kid is your dad okay he's like yeah that's what he calls de-stressing yeah 47:55 actually he calls his marriage distressing i don't know he just keeps saying but i just keep saying pulp free over and 48:02 over again so yeah i'd say that's a 48:07 very well received uh share for this episode it's been a while since i think really good everybody has oh it's it's 48:14 not been lately that we've had one that everybody agreed with was uh was tasty so yeah good on you trapezium pull free 48:19 fantastic choice and i'll i'll be taking a picture with that to put on our social media as well [ __ ] delicious yeah let's get back 48:26 into the meat let's talk about the thing that we're here for which is dr strange and multiverse of madness now we talked a little bit about the uh the illuminati 48:34 uh on the first half but uh hunter you had something you wanted to start off with here well i mean you know i said 48:40 earlier that one division is kind of essential for this but there's another marvel series and i think you should 48:45 also kind of essential is what if there's a lot of what-if connections 48:51 what if what hunter shut the [ __ ] up [Laughter] even from the point of doctor strange 48:57 pulling people's like powers out of them in order to become stronger yeah and uh 49:02 and like becoming sinister yeah there's the sinister doctor strange in this yeah he's pulling powers out of america 49:08 chavez like at the beginning of the [ __ ] movie captain carter like just there's so many elements even like the 49:13 the drippy inky like separating stuff as the incursion is happening and i'll tell 49:18 you i mean obviously within that particular series they've already wiped out some of those characters oh yeah in 49:24 that whatever they i don't know how many captain carters there are like or you know 49:30 yeah there's two down uh so that takes care of that which i 49:37 really like the look of the live action sharing carter it looks great uh agent carter uh they're not a lot of speaking 49:42 lines they didn't give her a whole lot to do with that role so i don't know if they were her 49:48 presence was strong though yeah definitely i can do this all day yeah yeah okay they were gonna throw that yeah 49:54 is that like i groaned when they said that but it had to be said yeah i'm not mad at them for doing it it had to be 50:00 done it was like the tie-in with the k yeah i get it but it was also very groaning the only other thing you could 50:06 have had is captain marvel go like on your left like yeah that would have been like that's britain's ass 50:12 [Laughter] no it's see no it's different because uh it's sharon carter and goddamn right it 50:19 is but like well she's a yeah but there would be uh there would be too much uh social 50:26 media usage of that's britain's ass uh too many too many cartoons drawn of that 50:33 uh a lot of pictures of peaches with me yeah yeah yeah that would probably make it better yeah so but i mean you get to you 50:40 know him encountering the doc strange from what if that's just gotten so [ __ ] 50:47 corrupted and again you were saying like ink the whole [ __ ] world is pretty much just kind of [ __ ] well that's a 50:54 that's a that's a funny thing that they do in this movie and that's a good point because they start off with him again 50:59 like i said earlier being arrogant and then he kind of goes to this transition and then you think that transition is 51:04 like complete i was like oh he he reached a new level he did reach a new level but it's it's going to go in 51:09 completely different direction than you think and that's the third eye yeah uh which for my understanding is the eye of 51:16 aguimo agamotto essentially like in physical presence physical form 51:22 uh that was brought about from the dark hold but that doesn't make any sense who else thought when that happened probably 51:29 now pat my third eye this tool immediately jumps in your head 51:35 i was just gonna say it's classic raymie because just like drag me to hell where you're like and 51:40 look they did it and then oh wait no she's [ __ ] and you get to that last part and it's that final reveal that was 51:46 so rainy of the [ __ ] third eye reveal and it's like no wait shit's [ __ ] good night so yeah that's the the question 51:53 revolves around does that mean that everything was for naught and he's eventually still gonna become the 51:59 uh dark strange no no more of just he's gonna have to figure out ways to con contain it and you utilize it without it 52:07 turning him into that strange yeah and i think that like tied into the like mid-credits scene too but like i thought 52:12 it was kind of dumb how like the very end he's like walking down the street and he has a third eye but then the mid credits scene this almost exact same 52:19 he's walking down the street again and then i'm like could you put him in like a different place make this scene like slightly 52:26 different that wasn't that was a little disappointing though is that clear shows up as a character yeah and in the comics 52:32 she has this ridiculous perm for a good amount of the time she's in comics and i really want to see 52:38 charlotte's throne with that stupid like pluto perm but they're like no no no she wants a regular hair now uh correct me 52:45 if i'm wrong but in the comics she eventually becomes uh uh sorcerer supreme at one point and one and one is 52:52 the sorceress supreme of the of the different art dimension yeah right is what it is so does she eventually 52:58 take uh i mean are they trying to have maybe of her eventually take the place of doctor strange oh no they get an 53:03 elite in the comics oh they get married they get married he's like the new love interest 53:08 yeah i mean they have kids and all that or does it go deep yeah uh there's a whole 53:13 comic series called strange brood where they have that's not strange strange seed yes 53:19 strange days strange strange spaces strange brew um 53:24 the one the thing that actually pissed me off more than anything else in this [ __ ] movie was the fact that this 53:29 cloak is his [ __ ] wing man through all of these movies is so [ __ ] badass 53:34 does all this [ __ ] when he's unconscious is saving him from [ __ ] aliens and mystical wizard people and doing all the 53:40 hard [ __ ] heavy lifting all this [ __ ] even let him levitate over to get a latte cloak is [ __ ] there for him 53:45 cloaky is the [ __ ] key to all of his [ __ ] and what does he do when he's walking down the street turn him into a 53:51 [ __ ] hipster scarf yep that's what he does this is a douchey little red hipster hipster scarf it's better than 53:57 an umbrella or underwear yeah true maybe cloaky [Laughter] 54:03 maybe cloaky was just healing because cloaky did get injured in the movies and you see that patch yeah do you see the 54:09 patch maybe he just he just needed time to heal he needed some chill time bro he needed some children it could have it 54:14 could have been a vest i mean you know things could have gotten worse yeah it looked cold out there a scarf 54:20 makes sense but it was a little scar it was a hipster's car it wasn't like but it 54:26 wasn't like a doctor who's going to if he had turned it into like a scarf and beanie i think 54:32 and matching beanies bad matching beanie no you want us to hate the character now 54:38 he turns it into like a [ __ ] pop collared shirt it's really it's really just like a rope bracelet too like a 54:43 rope bracelet it's it's the the what is it the crocodile is it izzod that does the crocodiles on the polo shirts it's 54:49 the crocodile brain you just want me to hate this character by the end of the movie it's essentially it's like a slap 54:55 bracelet it would just right on now if a slap race would that be [ __ ] bad yeah better yeah 55:00 that actually would be pretty sweet if he like shrunk it up a little trick flip your arm in the air yeah yeah instead of 55:05 the watch he's like [ __ ] yeah slap bracelet why wasn't it a [ __ ] slap bracelet watch from the like 1990s 55:12 that he had it really that would have been amazing or a swatch watch now of course there's been a calculator 55:19 watch the thing cassio yeah i i agree what if is definitely necessary to get a 55:24 understanding of kind of what they're doing with this because they are expressing just how [ __ ] whack can do and 55:30 it makes me so excited because every time they went into another dimension i was like huh like what are we gonna see yeah what versions of things are we 55:37 gonna see and we saw just the littlest taste and even that was super exciting um but the the options are so [ __ ] 55:44 wide open and there's decades of comics to do different iterations of these characters and uh 55:50 and it not matter that you can do one-off movies now in different universes and it's okay you can uh have 55:56 somebody die and come back because it's an alternate dimension it's gonna they can do the beer fest thing where 56:02 landfill dies and then his brother from texas shows up with a [ __ ] cowboy hat he's like no i'm his twin brother oh 56:07 exactly in the multiverse and it's fine like no i'm captain rogers and they're like 56:13 look you look different you kind of look like sean pan and he's like he's got like a blonde streak it's starkiller 56:19 what a deep cut reference because most marvel fans have also seen beer fights 56:25 they know exactly yeah i mean it's all gone to [ __ ] i mean it all it's not going to make sense and 56:30 it's going to make sense it just is what it is like more just opens the possibilities well from this point on 56:35 unless the movie is just genuinely good like we're just going to anything that comes out like i'm going to watch it if it's bad that's one thing 56:42 but more often than not you'll be like that's okay but it connects to this that's kind of the one thing that look i 56:48 don't know what this did same thing is like uh specifically like moon night like i don't know how this is going to 56:53 connect to everything else in terms of bringing kane just enjoy the ride just don't don't worry about it 56:59 just enjoy the ride listen i have peggy's like look i got this i got you man i'm in the driver's i'm driving 57:04 right now i love i was trusting i watched uh like a stream today getting ready for this of the red carpet event 57:10 for uh multiverse of madness and there's a stream there's some people that are dressing like kind of normal and stuff 57:16 but still like nice and there's people in the full gowns and doing the whole thing kevin fei shows up and i swear it 57:22 was a [ __ ] members only jacket and a [ __ ] ball cap and blue jeans he gives you what the [ __ ] he wants and that's the 57:27 thing nobody said a [ __ ] word to him because they're like no you do you get to do whatever you want he's the lex 57:33 luthor of that world he's the mastermind but yeah there is a good point in that is just like like i haven't seen hawkeye 57:38 and then i like read like oh like oh okay this person cameo like and i was 57:44 like okay we'll now have to watch it because it's gonna set up like all this stuff with like young avengers for sure 57:50 and that's the issue is that we are now [ __ ] programmed to sit and wait for 57:55 some connective tissue to something else we're waiting for even if we can make it in our mind like we want a goddamn see 58:02 that encrypted scene that connects it for us it opens it up in my opinion i like that i don't think it's a hindrance 58:07 i think that like that's cool now that like i mean dude everybody freaked the [ __ ] out when 58:13 quicksilver showed up in one division yeah we literally have professor x in the goddamn marvel movie 58:19 like that's an x-men in a [ __ ] marvel movie it's happened all right it's there so that's fully [ __ ] 58:25 happening yeah yeah not in that like quicksilver uh wanda but they don't mention they're 58:31 they're enhanced yeah mutants kind of [ __ ] no this is professor [ __ ] xavier in the floating yellow wheelchair 58:36 yeah like it happened and that opens up he even had his mind waves just like the cartoon 58:41 like they took they were like if we're gonna do this we're gonna give like every fan out there a little nut a 58:47 little little joygasm i mean i remember watching hawkeye and all of a sudden there's [ __ ] wilson 58:54 fisk and i was like holy [ __ ] they're doing it okay they're doing a comic accurate shirt too yeah but i'm 59:00 just saying like literally you kind of felt like those netflix shows that marvel was like well you know 59:07 we're going to have him on disney plus and that's great but then wilson fist shows up at hawkeye right after that 59:12 [ __ ] matt murdock and spider-man so they're going yeah we're taking everybody close-up magic trick that [ __ ] 59:18 they're like oh yeah look at this cool stuff this oh don't worry about this hand over here yeah you got the netflix shows that are on hulu 59:24 no they're not in hulu we'll put on disney plus because you know they're keep the comic book stuff together it's whatever you know like bam yeah oh [ __ ] 59:31 you didn't think about this that's right [ __ ] daredevils in spiderman movie [ __ ] eat it eat it oh 59:38 they did that [ __ ] with agents of shield i love that show and then they were like it's not cannon anymore for [ __ ] this 59:43 squawk rod with superheroes just shoved down our gull

geeks under the influence are that of the panelists and not of our sponsors 0:11 amazon.com and t public parental discretion is advised 0:19 but definitely we are just our schedules are so busy it's hard to be a [ __ ] up as much as we use not as much gaming as we 0:25 used to no yeah we could actually thank the partly to the 0:32 uh growth of the family and other shows too absolutely because generally 0:38 as show runners outside of just the main flagship you know we if we if we do the flagship then we do 0:43 another episode that's at least two nights we're drinking you know what i mean like it's like you know 0:49 you know and then having a cold one while you're editing helps ease the pain sometimes too so you kind of see this 0:55 going i just recorded like the other night i don't need to go too hard yeah exactly there's just like mine sort of 1:00 like yeah i'm gonna leave i'm a little low-key this one after seven years 1:06 seven years and also with all the other shows that takes a little bit of the pressure off of this is the only time i get to be on 1:13 gui it's like you have your own shows you have other shows that you can get yeah so it's not as much of a oh i only 1:19 get to do this once every like four months let me [ __ ] park 1:24 once every couple months and then also every week well and you even brought up the point 1:29 where like the first 80 episodes now and this is back in the day when we were recording every week every week so 80 1:36 episodes hours six people yeah dude we had it easy he had ahead of that 1:42 [ __ ] oh yeah true that's why it took me 16 [ __ ] hours ever i don't know how 1:48 that's you know i mean it ended up being well worth it because of the the network that we created together and like all 1:54 the episodes that we've done all the cool [ __ ] we've been able to do and also it did give me the opportunity to get my 2:00 day job into the podcast industry so it's true there's true a lot of good that came from it but i also look back 2:05 at every week 16 hours of editing and it still sounded like garbage when i was 2:10 done and it was your garden but it was goddamn garbage god damn it and obviously garbage that's like you know 2:16 hardcore criticism because if you go back and listen they don't dude i've heard some current podcasts that sound way [ __ ] worse oh first and that's 2:23 not [ __ ] on anybody creating i'm just saying like if we're really going to go down nitty-gritty with the qual you know 2:32 that's just facts anybody can listen to that and see a difference i'm not just cheating on it i still hear shows where it sounds like you're talking down a 2:38 hallway for somebody you know quality sounds let's get at least one of the like maybe two things that we actually 2:44 have formatted on this episode is the introduction here before we know a free play if unfamiliar free play 2:49 true can you is a time for us to just be able to kind of wax poetic and talk about whatever 2:55 whatever we want to there is no subject batter at hand so we are just all tan gentle as [ __ ] and we do this a couple 3:01 times a year usually uh the beginning of the year and uh also for our anniversary 3:07 which yeah if you are a long time listener knows april 20th 4 20 man 3:13 unintentional but very appropriate um 3:23 but i remember when we recorded it and it was like two weeks before and i was like i gotta get [ __ ] editing that's perfect 3:30 right i mean the only closer on the nose date you could have had was you know may 4th 3:35 i mean that's the only other day right right may 4th yes so uh 3:42 nonsense for seven years whereas some people 3:49 uh have a doctorate in seven years of their life uh that they have applied themselves to school 3:56 and learning and uh becoming a doctor i have 4:01 uh recording the people talking about their penises yeah right yeah and star wars and star wars we together have uh 4:08 filled i don't know how many buckets of dick jokes um in the seven years i think we're at dumpsters now 4:15 oh see i was even going to say tubs but dumpsters is totally a little tough number one [Laughter] 4:23 [Music] apple just this once let us use that as 4:28 a title please can you put like an asterisk in there something yeah something that would be 4:34 open so this is our this is our seven year 4:40 anniversary free play episode of geek some of the influence so be prepared it's gonna get weird man and it's gonna 4:46 go oh yeah but uh you know what that's the way we do on a free play it's the way we roll man reminiscent of the old 4:52 days on this episode geeks on the influence welcome 5:06 so you better join us 5:14 [Music] 5:20 don't forget about the fart jokes they will never farts are still funny first will always be secondary though i mean 5:25 oh my fair yes i believe i never get tired of the fact that i have a letter 5:30 uh in the studio from senator mark warner yep yeah you do 5:36 celebrating our achievements as a podcast our art form yeah our art form yes 5:42 yes proper terms please we just talk about jerking each other off dry like under 5:47 the table try jacks yes 5:58 that's right that's right i'm aware i know my niche affair 6:10 the senator hadn't ever listened to a single second of the show no no he probably got one of his like 6:16 [ __ ] what are their handwritings doing today to be like hey this show won like a thing go check him out and he was 6:22 like okay and he listened to it and was like i'm not going to say a goddamn thing 6:28 it was probably another one actually listen to it it was probably an unpaid intern even that was just like oh i know who these 6:34 guys are [Music] and just totally pass it off 6:40 oh [ __ ] the uh the panel for this uh seven year anniversary episode is all show runners 6:46 all people that have been here since uh pretty close at the beginning at least yeah um if not the beginning and uh half 6:52 their own shows have helped build this out to being one tire fire to many many 6:58 sm all so tire fighters a dumping yard of tire fires it's 7:03 it's a whole we're like the tire fire from the simpsons the big old mountain firefighters say we're just like killing the ozone 7:10 with the amount of tire fires we have yes yeah yeah we're at least killing people's patients or brain cells sense 7:17 of wonderment sense of wonder it's just hope for the future 7:24 but uh the panel that we're looking at hey i resemble that remark on my show you resemble the geek father that's 7:30 right uh mr scotty p is here hey hey guys we're in i'm some gui uh i did the 7:36 typical dad thing and was just like guy yeah right you know i'm the dad and the 7:42 bleachers you know you're a cheerleader yeah no the dad in the bleachers is like what the [ __ ] ref are you blind 7:48 you're [ __ ] well wait until the second half of the show yeah because wait is it gonna be on at us like what 7:53 does that mean right yeah we i could be yelling at the window 7:59 [ __ ] where the [ __ ] are your dad jokes that there you go yeah i'm looking at 8:04 you there you go where are your dad jokes i haven't bothered any children don't yet are you are you any daddy are above what my 8:12 expectations should be as a man with no children that i don't know are you requesting dad jokes from him they will 8:19 come out no matter what don't no question i don't know what you got we have to build the show okay yeah god i 8:26 don't think we should okay we should not build the show on the back of my puns like that 8:31 well that's where we got our start seven years ago so why not finish this [ __ ] oh that is true so that was the running gag 8:38 for years what the [ __ ] happened dude right come on man everyone's crushing it but you i just stopped giving a [ __ ] really 8:45 i mean it's not it's not a deep mystery he he totally made that turn of you 8:50 [ __ ] do it yeah pretty much that's that's what happened and we do the the father's like i'm the only non-father 8:57 sitting here at the stable right now that's true so there were enough fathers that were regular had their own shows 9:02 and everything that it was just like they're the ones that need to carry on my legacy is that 9:08 no honestly dear your puns your dad jokes come honestly as being fathers mine came from like severe pikmi energy 9:15 and as i got older as i got older i stopped wanting to be picked i was like man wasn't it great 9:21 when i was the last one picked a kickball like that was great i might even sit i might even sit out [ __ ] yeah sit i made it i made it uneven so like 9:29 they just let me say i'll be a [ __ ] binge warmer picking flowers making like just 9:35 chasing butterflies don't be a [ __ ] hippie don't be a [ __ ] hippie but 9:41 another father though not on geek fathers yeah he's on every other show besides this one uh but he used to be on 9:47 father's day father too you've been on geek father as well yeah it's like the old uh bugs bunny cartoons where he's 9:52 the pitcher and the catcher and the batter in the first baseman and the outfielder uh that is for gui we've got [ __ ] you hunter here what's up [ __ ] 9:59 from uh from the mouse madness in beautiful disasters yes yes yes so and again key fathers and a few other 10:04 ones yeah yeah you helped me start the the co-hosting aspect of geek father i would 10:10 like to show up sometimes just [ __ ] with you and try to divert the subject that you told me specifically we were supposed to stay on true just as that is 10:16 shitty giggles but no yeah i i tried to lay down the law and then it was like well [ __ ] already there wasn't so 10:22 much there was one time where kylie decided before he came in the room we're gonna just [ __ ] with you and try to 10:27 divert it to a different direction oh i know how much you squirm and i believe that episode the next week you had a 10:32 disclaimer before the episode probably yeah probably 10:38 well i mean it's a different realm man that's right it's a different realm 10:43 so um finally my uh partner in crime here my uh 10:49 the the butter to my bread that's right he butters you like the 10:55 white bread think about it yeah yeah you wonder 11:04 my partner on the uh running the network and on the show mr lowdown brown macgyver is here what's going on 11:10 everybody we just uh we're in the process of making we're rebooting jungle fever uh 11:16 look out for that in the glistening summer of 2023. it will be uh 11:21 available at no cinemas but but but we did get a sponsorship 11:27 from a said cocoa butter uh manufacturer so that will be heavily displayed in the movie so i like how i 11:35 like cocoa butter and it burns not for me and i don't know if it was intentional 11:41 but i totally saw the pelvic thrust when you were like in cocoa butter oh yeah but yeah yeah that's probably not on 11:46 video so [Laughter] my uh accents are unnoted remember when 11:51 we did that for like right also that was like [ __ ] four years 11:57 ago yeah when we were not as i feel like we were a lot more uh people would like watch us more now now for 12:04 sure you know right it was like a webcam like a low quality webcam that was 12:10 taped to the wall so the other one was a tablet or something no that was to start with a 12:16 tablet that i literally screwed that i ripped with like yarn okay okay 12:22 i forgot like samsung galaxy tablet that i i hung 12:28 by with yarn from the closet door right uh so that it would kind of get what at 12:35 one point you had both though because you had the you had two angles for the video that's when i went to webcams yeah i was just both like okay 12:41 yeah we're both on camera and it's like yeah the the fuzzy distant people on the video right 12:47 are available and the man who missed his calling as a cinematographer 12:53 and in this room as we speak now there is not only is it well lit but there's like 12:58 tons of like lighting stuff around because i'm starting to do like video stuff yes because jungle fever yeah what 13:04 the [ __ ] duh i just said that what do you what do you think it's gonna be low lit yeah 13:10 well if i'm in it it should be yeah but they'll just see me they'll just see like me and then just like like white 13:16 flashes here and there you just see yeah like just a vague uh alabaster skin 13:22 grunting noise well the the fact that you also described it as glistening so it's a glistening aloe vera skin yeah 13:29 you're a cocoa butter i'm just just flop sweat 13:36 [Laughter] 13:41 check out geoidpodcast.com for all the shows we mentioned all the other shows on the network this show rate review 13:47 subscribe all that cool stuff and uh also this will be coming out in the 13:52 month of april uh i hope uh that's the plan and uh for april uh 13:59 reviews number four good uh is the hashtag and that's a podcaster.com a place that was dumb enough to hire me is 14:07 uh doing a thing where they're actually contributing uh 25 cents for every review that they get on the entire platform for the month of april 14:14 for um a non-profit that feeds refugees leaving ukraine so it's um 14:21 more uh important than the actual review is the fact that it's actually that review is gonna help feed 14:27 people that really need the help absolutely yeah and if this over top of [ __ ] can just you know give to a needy 14:33 cause uh there you go yeah right it makes it worth it yeah makes it all worth it hearing long conversations about dry hand jobs 14:40 helps feed children it's going to a good cause yeah that's a good cause the oxymorons are the worst yeah 14:46 well i mean think about back on episode 50 was it ever this could lead to a review to feed 14:53 starving children about the show in the beginning that any 14:58 of us thought was going to do anything being for a good cause in any way i feel like there's nothing about the 15:04 show well all right i'll change it i was going to say i feel like there's never been like a a main thing about about the show that 15:10 was like geared towards bettering humanity but our motto is level up never punched down yeah so yeah i'll take that 15:16 back we'll talk trash we'll have fun with it we'll tease each other but everybody's allowed in the room like it 15:23 doesn't matter where you come from or even the level of geek them that you have right true it's supposed to be a conversation celebrating fandom so 15:30 there's no gatekeeping [ __ ] here i mean i feel like when it started to actually get kind of 15:35 serious when i mean we hit into covid and like we started donating to help 15:41 people out you know and actually bringing stuff up like before that's like you know kind of you know whatever we get from amazon 15:47 helps with equipment with that and there's that period of time where it's like shit's [ __ ] real like 15:52 oh yeah um if you help like we're gonna help people that like are kind of [ __ ] right now in this 15:58 situation yeah like so we actually were pushing for a good cause yeah like for real yeah 16:04 it's true yeah and yeah we've helped out with a couple fundraisers here and there like over the 16:09 years but it's all also one of those things that i don't know if it's just a richmond thing or just our group of friends but 16:15 or maybe just that punk rock ethos i'm gonna say it's also a richmond thing yeah it's original thing where it's like it fits in the same like it's a 16:23 combination long enough this used to be a sketchy as [ __ ] dirty city and it's kind of cute 16:30 it's starting to just turn around a little bit a little bit i was like five shootings last week right like down your 16:36 street right not in your like i was right outside your neighborhood not like next door but no but like in my neighborhood 16:43 yeah six blocks that way closer to mcv excuse exactly yeah well i'm just saying yeah it's not entirely non-sketchy now 16:50 but it's it's that decided to be less sketchy than it used to be oh yeah we're not throwing the cap in anything i think it's a lot of stuff not sketchy it's 16:56 gotten that's good it's got the e off of it yeah there is when i say that in description that is a difference yeah 17:03 you know if i say sketch versus sketchy it's like absolutely sketchy i'm going to get the [ __ ] out of here sketchy just don't park your car in 17:10 certain yeah exactly exactly not anywhere in the area sketchy just normally means that it's a town that has 17:16 a lot of like uh lower income people living in it and that was definitely true to richmond there was a 17:21 whole vice article that was written back in like 2005 or something that's [ __ ] hilarious you could find it online where 17:27 it's like richmond is the town where like you don't have to try to do anything and you're still going to like 17:32 flourish here because like nobody cares you can just work like a 8 hour like cooking job and then just on 17:39 your days off get a cheap 12 pack of pbr and go to the river and just like drink 17:45 all day and people are like that sounds like an amazing day and you're like it really was and that's just your life that would be stupid that really sounds 17:51 like a lot of my years in the 20 my 20s no i'm gonna say like i've definitely lived that holy [ __ ] 17:57 yeah yeah but they're like yeah you don't have to make a million bucks to live in richmond you can just like barely get by but you know it's just 18:03 that kind of culture where you can find stuff to do that's not expensive and kind of do it now let me throw it out 18:09 there too because at one point just to show well mine and hunter's age because i i'm not gonna be the only one 18:14 thrown under the bus about talking about agents damn the baby again on this episode [ __ ] you yeah right the old [ __ ] for that but 18:21 i remember back when we were around even our early 20s still i 18:27 i say decent decent two-bedroom apartment was still like four or five hundred bucks 18:32 depending on where where you were and you're you're also talking about the fifth city days oh very much so the the heyday of the 18:39 punk rock hardcore richmond yeah richmond used to be called fist city because it was just the at one point it 18:45 was like you had dc about 10 years before that and like it seemed to like just you know [ __ ] rolls 18:51 downhill come come down to richmond literally but 18:56 well we just dumped like how many gallons in the river last year yeah we don't talk about it about that i said 19:02 we lost count you're talking about the wrong numbers there man all right no but i mean 19:08 about rough yeah we're wealthy ten years after that richmond really you know late like 99 into the y2k era like really 19:14 during the 80s we had a lot of stuff coming down from dc like bandwise and the way it was and richmond was even 19:20 probably poorer then too you know very much so but the later 90s 19:26 when it was basically going into the next revival of whatever the next level of punk rock the 19:32 music scene and stuff like that was when hunter and i were basically like or you know later teenagers and stuff like that 19:38 it was cheap as [ __ ] to live in i mean and you would you would have a place with like three or four roommates and 19:44 everybody was paying maybe a hundred to two hundred bucks a month for rent i mean i remember you changed i remember 19:49 when there was a certain fan apartments where the uh walk-in closet um was changed from a walk-in closet to another 19:56 bedroom if if need be absolutely like you can basically fit a mattress and however you store the clothes and that 20:02 one small dresser and just like uh and they would work out you know when they could go to their room or not so yeah 20:09 but there was a time where there i mean the cost of living in richmond has increased dramatically oh very much so 20:15 um over the years and there was a point where it was very affordable for me to live my own yeah i went right yeah and that was 20:21 the first studio room that we had mm-hmm yep so moved out and i took over his room as the studio room for gui and it 20:28 was [ __ ] great and i'm like this isn't really that hard like i can i can not make it a million bucks but i can 20:33 afford to live here well do this and do things like you still went out of town and did stuff and then all of a sudden the cost of living increased pretty 20:40 dramatically where at that point i'm like this is great i'm never having a roommate again i'll live with like a partner that's great but like a roommate 20:46 never doing that again and then a couple years later found myself looking for a place to live went [ __ ] i need to really 20:53 wait we'll see that was around because you um even that house uh still was one of those little 20:59 niches where it was owned by someone personally it wasn't through a management company 21:04 and stuff like that that's where at one point jennifer and i got lucky where even the house where before we 21:10 bought you know actually grew up and actually bought a house um the the rent that we paid there was fine 21:17 we still had a usually had a roommate for most of the time we lived there just to make it easier could we have 21:23 gotten by by ourselves sure but it was just like even then you're just like [ __ ] it's going up 21:28 which was part of the reason why we were like let's just buy a house and even if we have to do the maintenance ourself 21:33 it's almost cheaper yeah yeah you know and that's how bad you know a lot of stuff has gotten i mean yeah buying a 21:41 house now no oh it won't be cheaper no this was almost a decade ago that we bought the house so you know you bought 21:47 it the right time exactly exactly i will say one of the advantages with your roommate moving out is is that i believe 21:53 the setup prior to having that room was the living room um 21:58 mike's kind of next to certain easy chairs and other couches yeah and once you had that room 22:05 it did kind of seem a little more as a actual setup instead of all right now sit in 22:11 this chair but don't lean back too far the mic will be here and hold it yeah make sure you had a table and mike's 22:17 that was god those ricky kind of stages right it started to feel kind of more of a it 22:23 got more formal like okay this is an actual thing yeah this isn't just like every week i pull out all these cords 22:30 and microphones sit on this side of the couch and you're on the other side like there was actually a person with windows facing a busy road 22:37 right we have to pause whenever we hear an ambulance come by do you remember that oh i always was against that because i 22:43 thought it added an aesthetic to it it's like this is how [ __ ] good we are right now in the [ __ ] living room 22:49 mic stands because they're like yeah it's ambience right i'm just 23:00 of course but that that's when the the shows actually or the well there's still is just the show got so formal when we 23:07 moved into the other room and i'll never forget when you first put the shield the sound shields up over the mics okay they 23:12 were all hours yeah the flowers they were just all like kind of peeking over at each other like flowers man jesus 23:19 not in the know either not hearing comments about it from that's like a million years ago about this after this releases because 23:25 [ __ ] man oh we gotta have reference for sure yeah so there's these like 200 um 23:31 things that you can buy that attached to your microphones that um that has like the egg foam and on the inside it's 23:36 basically like mini walls yeah like a mini like singers use yeah vocals especially if you have a room that you 23:42 can't do any kind of sound proofing to it exactly uh get more of that non-echoey sound um 23:49 for cheaper than it would cost to like treat an entire room so i was like i can do that 23:54 and then i was like you know what i can use instead of like buying the 200 things i can just get 24:00 lamp shades and 24:08 and then they already have the thing that i can screw into the base of the the phone and the thing is i made it work 24:13 it did and it did help but it was like so incredibly bulky and weird and hard to 24:19 deal with and see each other over everybody who came in that wasn't like straight up just gui 24:26 look would like what the [ __ ] oh yeah sorry i talk into the lampshade 24:33 i will say that reinforce the hand raising yeah because that was the only way you could tell who was trying to say 24:38 over here you were like what and you see a hand go up you're like i think that's steven 24:44 over there oh my god our shortest uh panelists were not having it oh no 24:51 which you are among as well i mean i'm short but like we definitely have much shorter than me oh absolutely 24:57 before that happened wasn't our last like living room episode the batman episode we did remember when you we had 25:03 that couple on remember that it was i thought it was like this dude his girlfriend andreas 25:08 yeah no andre i thought that was his girlfriend that came on she wasn't on the episode she was kind of just chilling oh she you know i think she 25:14 came here yeah no she wasn't on the episode okay yeah yeah yeah yeah i think that was like one of the last 25:19 two or three before moving out right around the living room so that was a fun episode though the last main episode i 25:25 remember doing in the living room which was one that only my wife has been on two was uh the kevin smith episode of the 25:32 two-parter i did for kevin smith um with his q a when he was in town at that time that was a good q a oh that 25:38 was such a killer q a yeah he was like loved it he was basically like no [ __ ] do it yes 25:45 and then hobbit was like have you heard of guar bar why don't you hang out at guar bar because wasn't that when you were trying 25:51 to get the interview with him i didn't get a mic so it was definitely not that was a dude that was uh what's his face 25:56 well someone was doing it for you was it ballsack that actually was doing it okay it was up in the balcony 26:03 it was somebody from guar or yeah it was right no no it wasn't dirks it was um oh beefcake sorry beefcake yeah oh okay 26:10 okay all right there goes my richmond card sorry i was gonna say all right i knew i i knew i wasn't wrong i'm like that's not balls like it's beefcake 26:16 beefcake yeah sorry but yeah i remember just remember that when i heard the voice and i was like that's a different car 26:31 but then later on we actually did get a shout out in a way from mr smith which i still oh i think i opened my child to 26:38 carlton for making that happen that's on my google drive i will never lose it it's just not it's very every once in a while i just listen to it and watch it 26:46 because it's just fun yeah yep seriously that was awesome yeah mad props to carlton for it was the most sure so yes 26:52 love you for that the audio on the front of this episode i don't give a [ __ ] right yeah that was a big highlight 26:58 for gui i mean that carlton like that was seriously that was [ __ ] amazing and it was like just it was the most kevin smith 27:04 way kevin smith could do that right because just by adding the i lot he lied at the end i'm like no dude that's 27:10 [ __ ] brilliant because no matter what we talk about we're definitely not friends unfortunately and i say that seriously 27:16 we're not friends with kevin smith no no we're not related to anything he does with smodco vosku or anything 27:22 but his diy ethos is like legendary right in the 27:28 independent universe i mean you know exactly with talk about podcasting he was very 27:34 early on in the build-up of podcasts i mean like if you when you think when you talk about kevin smith i mean like 27:40 obviously people jump director movies but the next step he did was podcast 27:45 podcast and he did it when it was nothing like you had whatever 27:50 it is now yeah no like two years ago was a tenth of what it is yeah like yeah just saying 27:55 so he kind of jumped on there and built up what this industry is and it was basically him and scott mosher yeah basically getting on there 28:02 going well we're not making a movie right now so let's sit around and i'm going to smoke a joint and yeah let's talk about what i remember getting an 28:08 ipod and like starting to check out some of the you know what podcast they had and going oh [ __ ] 28:13 kevin smith and it was very early in the spot right yeah absolutely checking that out checking out marc maron checking out 28:20 douglas movies things like that these early ones that before now there's a 28:25 [ __ ] ton of podcasts and kevin smith's one of the forefathers of it because it goes into uh not only the way kevin 28:31 smith started making with making movies but what attracted a lot of us 28:36 to be where we are now too is where it was such a independent i'm not having to pay for [ __ ] you can do it on your own 28:44 you can do it with friends you don't have to have some weird like sponsorship 28:49 backer to do anything i mean these days you have to have it to grow to a certain extent 28:55 but we've always made the joke that we'll keep doing this even when the wives and partners unplug the mics and we'll still 29:01 be talking [ __ ] to each other oh yeah with us you know it also i mean in part 29:07 of it it's the uncensored like you know kevin smith everything everything 29:14 everything he's done but before we started the podcast i mean like you know it was just this uncensored i mean obviously but that was 29:20 the feeling with a line that was that was appealing when you listen to it yeah it was like oh you're listening to radio except they're like 29:26 oh [ __ ] you eat a [ __ ] and you're like yeah and you don't you at the time you can turn on the radio 29:32 and listen to anybody say eat a [ __ ] [ __ ] but you could put on a podcast and they're going to tell each other and it was like exactly yeah you were you you 29:38 you're used to that in like r-rated or unrated films right especially if you know with kevin smith films right yeah 29:44 but i mean give me was it clerks randall just lists off how many [ __ ] important videos you know but that's like yeah yeah once you hear that come 29:51 across just your airwaves well it's totally different than watching it in an article there was already an appeal 29:56 because i had already started watching the evenings with kevin smith which is just his q and a's yeah he released them out on dvds so those came out prior to 30:04 his podcast but then you're like oh also if you like that here's a podcast him 30:09 doing the same thing just shooting [ __ ] with scott moser oh yeah except you're not having to [ __ ] pay for it it's 30:14 just there yep yeah dude i found the video oh i'm gonna play the audio real quick for everybody 30:22 hey man it's me kevin smith this is me wishing a happy fifth birthday to the good folks of geeks under the influence 30:28 man i record a lot of podcasts myself but when i'm not doing that i listen to geeks under the influence he lied 30:36 all the smirk dude i know yes yes that was two years ago yep uh we got a little over two years 30:43 ago two years ago it was pretty covered yeah it was right but yeah that was like that last year before all the [ __ ] no 30:49 it's like right now it was right right before early 2020. it was i think february of uh of that year was it oh 30:55 because that happened and then we had galaxy con which is always marked as the weekend before the dark like before the 31:01 dark times the weekend before tom hanks let's test the positive right just say that 31:07 literally a minute tom hanks test deposit for covid is when [ __ ] shut the [ __ ] down as 31:14 soon as they said tom hanks oh oh whoa whoa whoa 31:25 [Laughter] let's be perfectly honest i mean what scandals do you know for tom hanks so if 31:31 something serious like that happens you're like what whoa hold on yeah i'm just saying thanks yeah uh i remember 31:37 being at the theater on a monday when they now said and by [ __ ] thursday we were told we're shutting the [ __ ] down 31:43 all right like it was that quick from monday news to thursday we're not gonna 31:50 have the theater open for a little while that like that kind of [ __ ] yeah amy bogart and i had been dating for like 31:56 eight months when everything shut down yeah um which actually as far as timing goes i 32:03 feel for a lot of new relationships that they have been dating for like ah and then covet [ __ ] happen 32:09 do you hang on to that or do you like hang out together do you hang out separately like all the challenges of 32:16 that we had enough time together before then that we're like we yeah we we like yeah we're good 32:22 we're right i like each other yeah we also had friends though like um stephen who uh actually started dating 32:28 during some of the coveted quarantine time and he now lives with his lady mm-hmm 32:34 you know so it's it was a weird time what about what about those relationships that are 32:39 just hanging by a thread right before it should happen and you go dude i'm i'm 32:44 gonna be moving out on the 15th and on the 12th like everybody please stay in your home so you go uh-huh oh no oh yeah 32:52 all right that's gonna suck for like maybe it's just for like a couple weeks that's what they said it comes with that movie actually where it was like 32:58 all of you you're all pieces of [ __ ] and then you realize oh the door's oh it's a timed ex entry door right yeah 33:05 how are you oh whoa whoa but you're like i just you're in something but you're in that situation where you're like just 33:11 two weeks and they said two weeks and then oh [ __ ] should be under control oh another month okay fine and then you're 33:17 six months later you're like [ __ ] me like because that [ __ ] the updates weren't positive like okay 33:24 um so remember how we said two weeks and you could possibly know and just kept adding and adding so 33:31 in that situation yeah how many how many times were people signed on the dotted line and submitted into the lawyers and 33:36 was like i'm you know like you said like i'm moving out and then they're like no you can't [ __ ] do [ __ ] we didn't i 33:42 would say we did look out in a situation where we were able to adapt using zoom and [ __ ] like that too very much so huge 33:48 that was definitely trial and error for sure kyle 33:55 yeah the nature of podcasting is has always 34:02 been something that had to be adaptive i mean that's just true 34:07 the idea that you're you're farming like uh entertainment from anybody that is 34:13 willing to put a microphone in front of them and post it onto right the aggregators the podcast aggregators um 34:19 the environment necessitates evolution it requires people to learn 34:25 how to adapt and how to change like um improve the quality of their shows 34:30 get better equipment learn how to put some nuance on to the the tags that 34:35 you put on to your your uh episodes before you send it out post and all that yeah sometimes maybe just 34:41 help you know show a fellow showrunner how to properly use a microphone that says she should already know 34:47 that they've had for a year okay but oh my god um hey person i'll just come over 34:52 to say it [ __ ] kyle kyle don't no you don't talk in that part of the mic you've had that mic for a year dude 34:58 i still say before we record geek fathers these days i still sit there and go don't suck to mike's dick when we're 35:04 doing soundcheck [ __ ] but i do remember a certain other show that there were 10 episodes 35:10 recorded before they realized they were recording on the laptop oh 35:17 one of my favorite moments is the utter realization that we had wasted our time 35:23 sucking the microphones [ __ ] just to realize that the laptop was recording us yes that was a 35:29 amazing terrible amazing realization's face 35:34 was blind like oh no yeah that like that was funny come 35:40 back from this and it was a simple gesture that you did you said hold on and you just tap three 35:47 times and we realized holy [ __ ] there's no tapping showing up on the 35:53 [ __ ] laptop and that's what i think roots the first five minutes of that episode is him just 35:59 apologizing for the fro the prior 10 episodes i remember we just can't get to the sound just as i 36:06 remember hearing that yeah for some reason we're trying to get this to sound right and it's just not working yeah you're absolutely right yes 36:12 everybody in the early days of discovery madness came along way later so uh we 36:18 just learned everyone else is [ __ ] up early days of well when it was geek father when i'm 36:24 sitting there i'm doing something like hobbit check check hobbit check it 36:29 when we started gui um i mean talking about like from the most oppressively 36:35 bad starting points it's like okay cool we're gonna do a two-hour show once a week six people 36:41 all drunk one room mic [ __ ] joke yeah right that sounds like 36:47 a tournament like i've posted that in like uh facebook groups on facebook and [ __ ] where it's just podcasters talking 36:54 and i've they're like what would you never do again i'm like six panelists 36:59 two hours all drunk and the people responding it's all the 37:05 laugh things like jesus christ no i'm not jo i'm not joke no no no go back and listen 37:11 go get the zip file with the first 42 episodes i was about to i was about to say how many episodes did this if i'll have before it was 41 37:17 41 well 40 one is like lost and forgotten one is lost 40 episodes 37:23 waiters robot dong is that in the zip file no episode one the first one that is in the zip file so 41 episodes 42 is the first 37:30 one 42 hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy is the first episode actually posted like 15 or 16 we're like we're gonna go 37:36 ahead and take that first episode off i remember when i started my well i'll 37:43 say like again because i know we talked about every anniversary doctor who was my first episode that was still like six months after it 37:50 happened that was still the joke of yeah we got to get rid of that vader dong [ __ ] yeah man [ __ ] no no uh but it was 37:57 there it was a funny episode well they're like the first 41 if you haven't caught that in 38:03 previous episodes is that we were using an old board we the audio was not great 38:10 no uh dude are you still drinking pumpkin beer i had found the back of the fridge yes 38:16 they have a shelf life bro that is way past oh i checked it oh god i got two weeks oh that's disgusting wow i'm sorry 38:23 that must have been like the last batch that came out of whatever pumpkin bottle pumpkin beer oh i got [ __ ] to be late 38:28 middle of you remember that was that i i didn't get it till december this was shipped for my sister oh that's yeah 38:34 yeah but it's april yeah and that's back in the fridge yeah 38:40 oh pumpkin beer that said yeah i mean i don't yeah seriously i disgusted facebook at him like trooper yeah 38:47 dude do it done but with those early episodes the the reason why they're not on it it's 42 38:52 is the first episode that you see on our stream is because uh they are bad um they are not 38:59 the like later parts of the 30s plus are listenable they're not very good quality but they are you can listen to them you 39:05 can understand what we're saying and stuff um but the last thing you want is for somebody to be turned on to a show oh 39:12 you got to listen to show and then they check out an early episode and they're like oh wow this sounds like a bunch of raccoons banging on trash 39:18 yeah isn't it hilarious 39:23 like in the background who actually whenever they are suggested or come across one uh a show that they 39:31 want to listen to starts at the beginning actually a lot of people i do not no i don't i've i've 39:36 done it some will check out current episodes and then if they like that then right yeah right so you really think 39:43 about that current episode yeah but then you see the transition that they've actually 39:48 put work and effort into progressing yep like i have i have done that maybe not all the way back to the first but like oh with the first year you know what i 39:55 mean and like oh wow i'm gonna go back and listen to new ones i like your [ __ ] this sounds like it also depends on that 40:01 it depends on the show as well because sometimes you know if you listen to more recent stuff they have certain ongoing 40:06 gags or jokes that definitely would not fly back in some of the earlier episodes and stuff like that 40:12 so it's it's all it all depends on the show and who's doing it it's funny though that when i look at places where it has like 40:19 an aggregation of like how many episodes i've been on for stuff and like like podcaster you have a creator profile 40:24 there and it says how many episodes that i'm either an executive producer on or the other day and stuff and it's like 40:31 it's like 800 something and i'm shocked it's not a thousand honestly 40:36 well yeah but i also have to remember to add 41 to that because it's not on the stream yeah 40:42 841 thank you very much you're right um but it's at this point that i think we have broken for gui alone 40:50 um on the number of hours uh we are past a month where it takes more than a month 40:56 to listen to non-stop for one month if you listen to from just the streaming ones so it's more 41:02 than that if you count in the first 41 um it takes more than a month to listen to all the audio there you go it's 41:08 almost 24 7. 24 7. yeah so start downloading now and when you have to hide in the bunker during the apocalypse 41:14 you have at least a month of entertaining you are yeah there you go and then like when the fallout just 41:20 drops and then they we somehow meet they'll be like savior they just like recognize our voice 41:26 they're like right oh they're like you're the all father is that where we do the classic scene of 41:32 like walking up over the hill and we're all just like an apocalyptic mad max gear yeah and they're like the saviors 41:38 they'll make us laugh again [Laughter] and he's like shut the [ __ ] up 41:52 you guys were [ __ ] drinking and i wanted to know 41:57 how did the beer taste what i wanted to know you said here you go 42:02 we will join you and now we will not die 42:08 here we go number one number one that joke number one that's right the church of 42:13 gui [ __ ] nightmare why is that not been a shirt yet hobbit right i mean i guess 42:19 for the anniversary why not let's make it to church and i will totally pay to for you to rip off scientology 42:26 for that oh my god 42:40 that's all they spend their money on but anyway on that um let's take a break uh when we come back again just more 42:45 [ __ ] nonsense with some what we're drinking 42:50 we will be back in just a minute but before we continue on with our seven year anniversary free play of geeks 42:57 under the influence we're going to be getting into our sponsors a little bit amazon.com has been with us for a long 43:02 time sometimes it's just necessary that you've got to order stuff online because life gets so busy it's hard to be able 43:09 to run out and get stuff hit multiple stores to get the products that you need for your day-to-day 43:15 and so if you are already using amazon.com why not go through our link at guipodcast.com go to the links 43:20 section click on amazon that will send you to the amazon site and everything you purchase after you get to that site we 43:27 get credit for so some of the money that you're spending there will go to us instead of amazon so it helps us pay for 43:34 storage fees for new equipment whatever we need that is 43:39 involved with this podcast another way to help us out is through t public we have over 40 designs available 43:46 nrt public store from all the different podcasts on the network inside jokes from the different 43:52 shows just funny designs fun mashups all sorts of cool stuff that you can check out at goypodcast.com 43:59 store click on the t public link and it will send you directly to our store where you can get 44:04 t-shirts buttons stickers baby onesies mugs cups all sorts of stuff with our 44:10 logos and designs all over it they have sales all the time so if it's not a sale when you get there wait a couple days 44:16 check again and there will most likely be a sale again and make sure to share those links as 44:22 well if you really like one of our designs one of the most popular ones is our tucci gang t-shirt 44:27 share that on social media that is a great way to help us out speaking of helping us out the only reason that 44:32 we've been around for seven years is because of you because of our listeners and there aren't words that properly express 44:39 our appreciation for the amount of support and love that we've gotten over the years i wanted to make sure that you 44:45 know as our listeners are the most important part of this podcast you are the most important member 44:51 of this little gaggle of weirdos that we've cultivated over the years so thank you 44:57 and we appreciate it and back to our show we're back for uh the last little bit of 45:04 this first part of geeks under the influence uh we are splitting this into two episodes so instead of a guy nights 45:11 you're getting a full second episode of uh debaucherous uh gui i i i farted a 45:19 little bit when you came in with that man it was like wow that was very sharp that was very 45:24 morning we're back who cares i don't come into the meeting it's on 45:30 sunday morning god damn it yes i'm calling k-rock and 45:36 gonna sell that [ __ ] to them so hard the meaty mitts i like it you just need that 45:42 noise [Laughter] 45:47 uh anyway uh yeah we're instead of uh doing this as like the midway uh we ran 45:52 late anyway we are cutting this after the what we're drinking which is amazingly anticlimactic 46:00 getting into the uh the meat of the second half on a totally different episode that you will get next 46:05 week so uh for what we're drinking uh there are no shares because [ __ ] it we're going old-school days for 46:10 anniversary yeah but we do have some uh points to 46:16 bring up uh first off one mentioned earlier was that hunter's drinking pumpkin beer in april that's right 46:22 that's gotta taste like that tastes like [ __ ] fresh i that's your opinion i like it so yeah 46:28 but it hasn't expired yes it's also only an inspire in my stomach it's also on tap's opinion so i'm yeah okay but on 46:35 the same end also is that as we're talking about his pumpkin beer being expired literally in the stairwell 46:41 of the studio is a pumpkin that has been there since the second week of october that it's 46:47 still pristine as [ __ ] there's no mold on it after that it's been there that's crazy the whole 46:53 time we had two the second one uh left us last month 47:01 it was toiled off to that uh that uh off the mortal coil into pumpkin heaven 47:07 last night a great big pumpkin patch in the sky yeah i wouldn't move jeez i wouldn't move that pumpkin because the 47:13 bottom might completely be right out it looks really nice smell that you would [ __ ] smell that like done the 47:19 detective work of like my head down near the bottom looking at it and sniffing and like no this is can i get a picture 47:25 of that like a little video like well hey baby it smells well we'll message amy that one to be like let us 47:31 know when he checks the pumpkin again she'll be at the top of the stairs like he he records you just see that random 47:37 flash and you look it up going should you use your phone holder against you you won't even see here just be sure to be like holding it like this around 47:42 the door the doorway how's the pumpkin honey yeah [Laughter] 47:48 like you said it was our video equipment yeah well then we got but no that'd be good because then we'd get her reaction 47:54 as you say oh i think it's done honey no yeah right yeah that'd be awesome but 47:59 how the [ __ ] is that thing not i don't know man like yeah the fact that it is mid to late april and i still have a 48:06 pumpkin from mid-october that is pristine can i make it a year i would say i don't know 48:12 that stairwell is going to get warm yeah the the first really hot day is when 48:17 that goes and looks like the face of the the nazi and 48:23 i was gonna say it's just gonna melt and like glue to get you know oh that's gonna smell so bad yeah 48:30 i bet it's insides are already like rotted it's just the shell refuses to go yeah it's like just black somehow the outer skin got 48:36 hot like super hard for whatever reason and what are you doing that pumpkin that is between me and the pumpkin 48:44 if you coat it it acts like wax exactly like a lacquer yeah all right let me check your diet bro 48:51 it's a lot of fiber i don't know if fiber will do that no i don't think it 48:56 does i don't know what what you think is fiber but 49:02 just eat glue sticks like popsicles oh yummy all right 49:09 the next one i'll point out is that scotty p thematically along with his uh gui t-shirt that he's wearing is also 49:14 is his gui hat oh my god dude all you're missing is the [ __ ] foam 49:20 hand yeah you just you are that should be next on our merch no it shouldn't be you are like one step away from being 49:25 garth and wayne's world was like i don't know i just don't understand 49:40 [Laughter] you're being thematic uh yeah in a way 49:45 yeah uh with i made one fuck-up statement 49:50 oh man for like six years old yes remember i said we need to bring back 49:55 that [ __ ] koozie design and the creator was on the last last episode i was like man because that's 50:02 i'm a fan of the ones we have now i mean yeah not just because i created it because it's definitely ref it definitely is a hard reference to the to 50:08 the show sure and the whole segment but like that original one just god damn it it was so good so it was yeah anyway but 50:13 yeah uh you're drinking the yingling yes sir yeah classic yingling lager the east coast local original oh no hold on hold 50:20 on you're like yingling really yeah it's local what east coast local regionally 50:28 [ __ ] oh it takes less than a day you got to give a crumb though that's sure yeah 50:34 like he's a [ __ ] [ __ ] east coast local it's less than a day drive to the 50:39 brewery and where they make it you know that's sluglish no no no 50:45 no no steven you are actually drinking an east coast local i am i'm a local local i'm drinking a beer from bingo 50:52 beer co uh in richmond virginia which i am digging this local yeah that's actually lovely yeah actually but 50:58 bingo has been putting out some killers they opened up it's funny so the name they actually 51:05 bought a bingo location that location right bingo nice very old bingo hall yeah yeah um so hence the name but yeah 51:12 this is their free space this is their hazy pale ale india paleo excuse me it's a single so it's only 6.3 but they have 51:19 a really good lager a really good dark lager really good brown ale i mean i've i've got a i think i've got some of the 51:24 log one the loggers at home see i love the original i love their standard logger but whenever they release that 51:29 dark lager oh my god yeah my giblets because because as a parent i take my kids to bingo beer company for video 51:36 games and beer they don't drink the beer i do i'm glad you were like they do 51:41 they do cut that [ __ ] off at a certain time though because we were out and about we went to eat somewhere and we wanted to go into bingo afterwards and 51:48 mike was with us and they're like oh i was like hey man can he come in and he's like uh after and had this done the dots no we do we 51:54 do like sunday afternoons or something yeah yeah yeah oh yeah the kids can have fun and pop 52:00 get up all the trunks are out yeah nothing like watching daddy drink kids she's a skateboard young kid hey good 52:06 let me get a beer and we'll go play ninja turtles [ __ ] it yes you know and uh 52:11 i'm drinking a uh bourbon and ginger uh as as taught to me by uh the the crump 52:18 uh is that you put a little bit of bitters a little bit of lime in with your bourbon and ginger and it's a tasty little treat i am not doing a jim beam 52:25 i'm doing benchmark which has been my go-to just like mixer uh i gotta say yeah i i'm enjoying that 52:31 because i got i didn't get the the bigger bottle uh but i got a small ball just to try because it was more like a like a comparison mm-hmm and honestly 52:39 like man i'm i'm not digging jim beam as much as i used to as far as for like a standard like mixer yes there's like a 52:45 sweetness on the back end oh there it is yeah but i used to like it i don't like it anymore well as your palette 52:51 grows as you get older changes as you get older there are certain things that you just don't enjoy as much and nothing against jim beam because i was no it's 52:57 like [ __ ] being if it's there i'm gonna [ __ ] drink it i've still got some at the house too i mean i buy it for the house like but for 53:02 the house like i don't know man like i just i'm not into it like i was and it was like the go-to 53:08 standard for me like [ __ ] jack daniels i was jim beamo yeah i think i think i saw that black cherry for my birthday this last year oh yeah the flavored stuff 53:14 yeah the fire i'll still [ __ ] with because that's supposed to be sweet yeah [ __ ] you fireball get jimmy my birthday 53:19 my birthday last year we we at one point really didn't care while we were drinking yeah yeah that happens yeah 53:25 that happens that makes for a really bad hangover though uh it was even though it was a super hot day i was drinking 53:31 plenty of water and actually woke up pretty well the next day oh cool yeah so i was my old age i was smart because 53:38 also the old age with hangovers it's just like yeah and especially with two well for i should say normally with kids 53:43 but the parents had the kids for the weekend i know we're most of the way through what we're drinking but i forgot to play the the intro so 53:50 hey we're [ __ ] drinking we're getting drunk 53:56 you want to know well here you go hey we're drinking 54:01 we're getting drunk i was less for me to worry about later i would just do it now i figured you would 54:07 play the bow version as well for this episode yeah yeah yeah it hasn't only left like for like i think two episodes 54:13 and then yeah because it didn't fit with like the spooky yeah right right but on that uh 54:19 that this is the end of the first part of two of the gy free play uh 54:24 anniversary episode so thank you so much for listening to this [ __ ] garbage and uh and be in store for more uh next 54:32 week for another episode of uh the silliness uh where we're continuing this so we're just going to get more drunk 54:38 and more silly entire fire uh stories from our time this tire fire doesn't burn out no it does not no yeah 54:45 uh it'll fade away about midnight for me okay fair and hopefully we'll be done well 54:51 before that but absolutely yeah um so here we go thank you so much for listening uh i'm mike the hobbit join us
