She served as the First Lady of North Carolina from 1917 to 1921, as the wife of Governor Thomas W. Bickett, and used her influence in his administration to enact social reforms and support women's suffrage. During World War I, she maintained a victory garden at the North Carolina Executive Mansion and promoted home gardens to support the war effort. Bickett was the commandant of the Southeastern District of the U. S. Training Corps and visited American troops in France as a representative of the YMCA.After serving as first lady, Bickett served in various civic roles, including as a member of the board of governors of the North Carolina School for the Blind and Deaf, as the Head of the Infant and Maternal Welfare Bureau of the North Carolina State Department of Health, and as the Superintendent of Public Welfare for Wake County. In 1929, she was appointed by Governor O. Max Gardner as the first woman president of the North Carolina Railroad. Two amazing individuals who are passionate about trying new things and Doing Hard Things, which is the name of the  challenge program they created, to develop community, accountability, inspiration and so much more. The Do Hard Things Challenge encourages people do and try new things via a list given out at the start of they year, participants share their progress, pictures and stories as the year progresses. Adam Bickett competed in the Race Across America and Race Across the West. He also won the legendary “Furnace Creek 508” (now called the Silver State 508). After getting into cycling and riding many centuries and double centuries, Adam entered road racing and made it to the Cat 2 USA Cycling division and also participated in the Collegiate National Road Championships. Later on he switched back to ultras and made his way to a victory with an 8-person team in RAAM, scored solo finishes at the world's toughest ultra races and added another victory in the RAW 4-person team race. In the last years Adam reduced his training, focussed on other aspects in life, but wants to come back to cycling soon. Let's roll!
