Eileen Dillion, CEO of Gilda's Club South Jersey joins me to discuss how Gilda's Club is helping those affected by cancer and their families by offering support and services, all free of charge.  Their model of care is based on in-person gatherings and when the pandemic closed everything down, they were remarkably able to pivot to virtual programs in a matter of days to continue to help their members.  Since central and north Jersey branches are no longer part of Gilda's, the south Jersey Gilda's now provides service to the entire state and will continue to provide their programming online, even as in-person meetings resume.

Welcome to episode 25 and part 2 of our project with Gilda's club. Our Guest today is Danielle Gilbert and it was a joy to sit down and interview her. In this episode we talk about growing up in TX and her move to Nashville. We discuss her running the country music 1/2 marathon in 2006 with her friend Gail who was the lady who started Gilda's gang 15 years ago. We talk about hiking, yoga, philanthropy, and how sacred the gift of life is. Danielle does a lot in her everyday life to give back and help other people and she is a great example to follow. Danielle has some of my favorite answers we have had so far on this podcast. We are both excited for the Gilda's Gang 5k that takes place on Saturday April 3rd in Shelby Park and we hope to see many of you there as well. Thanks to Gilda's for asking me to be a part of this project, Thanks to Laurie and Danielle for letting me interview them and thanks to you for listening to this podcast.

Both this episode and episode 25 feature ladies who are a part of Gilda's club and are promoting their 1st annual 5k race that will take place on Saturday April 3rd here in Nashville. Our guest in this episode is Laurie Rice who is a Rabbi in Nashville and has a fascinating story about her life, career path and love for running. Laurie is such a great ambassador for running and we discuss how she got started in the sport and her involvement with Gilda's club.  We also discuss some of her favorite races that she has participated in like the 2020 virtual race where she ran across the state of TN ... and then back ... over the course of 4 months! Yes indeed Laurie is truly a "running Rabbi" and hearing her story will make you appreciate the sport even more. Thanks as always for listening and be sure to check out part 2 .. episode 25 that will be out soon.

On this episode of the WoWP, its with absolute pleasure that I welcome a dear friend of mine, Lauren Srodka. While we usually spend these podcasts diving into a person, their struggles, their faith, and so on; this episode is going to be slightly different. Lauren works for a wonderful, and I mean wonderful, organization called Gilda's Club of Middle Tennessee. (https://www.gildasclubmiddletn.org) This non profit organization's mission is to give emotional and mental support to those fighting cancer, or their families. What many people fail to realize is that cancer not only attacks the body, but it has effects on the mental and spiritual level as well. Whether its the person who is living with the disease or their family members, it takes a huge mental and spiritual toll on them. Gilda's Club was formed to give that mental and emotional support to those who need it. If you or anyone you know suffers from cancer, please listen to this episode as Lauren explains the mission, the purpose, and the work of Gilda's Club. It could be just what you or your loved one needs in this battle with such a difficult disease. While this show is focused on Gilda's Club and their mission, Lauren and me also have a few laughs. She's my most traveled friend, an amazing mother, and a supportive friend to me. The fact that she works for such an amazing organization only makes me respect her even more than I already do. So listen in, learn about Gilda's club and their mission and the hope they give. Also learn what Lauren has against Tom Hanks movies, why her life story includes Jason Aldean and Toby Keith, our love of Mustangs, motherhood, and bad drivers. Thank you for listening! Leave us those 5 star reviews and share (especially this episode) with the people you think it could benefit the most!God bless

Cancer Pathways was formerly Gilda’s Club Seattle – named in honor of Gilda Radner, who, when describing the emotional and social support she received when she had cancer, called for such places of participation, education, hope and friendship to be made available for people with cancer and their families and friends everywhere. The New York flagship facility, with its International Training Center, opened in June of 1995.Anna Gottlieb, our Executive Director, saw an article in People Magazine on a rainy Seattle afternoon many years ago about the first Gilda’s Club opening in New York City. She was so intrigued by the family focus and the humor that went along with a cancer support community that she went to NY to see it for herself. She was so convinced that this wonderful program was needed in Seattle that she spent the last 19 years pursuing this dream. Anna says, “This has been a journey filled with much love, dedication, passion and commitment on the parts of so many. It has been a privilege and honor to play a small part of this incredible team.” We officially opened the doors to our clubhouse in 2001 and have been continually growing, adapting, and walking along side people with cancer ever since.

In Life Now with Coach TMB is super excited to bring this episode to you tonight as I have the awe inspiring opportunity to interview the President and CEO of Gildas Club in Grand Rapids' Leanne Arkema! "Gilda's Club became more of a passion than a job for Arkema, and she became attached to the beauty of the club and the good that it does for people. She muses that a lot of people are emotionally unhealthy, especially when big things happen to them, and part of becoming emotionally healthy is learning to laugh. Gilda Radner, the namesake of Gilda's Club, had the same opinion. The engaging comedienne and original SNL cast member was diagnosed with cancer in 1986 and passed away in 1989.
