It not only allows me to help them possibly win scholarships at an early age, but I can also help them build their resume and Personal Narrative for even more scholarship success later in high school. Students who start applying for scholarships in their junior year of high school have a distinct advantage compared to their peers who wait until senior year. They build the skills for scholarship success. Plus, some scholarship opportunities for high school juniors are not open to seniors, including a full-ride scholarship! But I've also helped multiple students who came to me in the spring of their senior year still win scholarships. The only time it's “too late” to apply for scholarships is after you graduate college. So, no matter where you and your student are, start applying for scholarships today! If you would like a free scholarship consultation to find out how your student can get started on their scholarship journey, just drop me an email to get started.

The Tom Ficklin Show: Human Rights Essay Contest for New Haven Public Schools by WNHH Community Radio
Today on our show, we bring you a story by one of Allison's 7th grade students. She spent two months teaching English to 7th and 8th graders at a private school in Miami, and because she's her, she assigned personal essay after personal essay. She learned about their parents, what they eat for dinner, their nannies, grandparents, and favorite sport. They resisted getting personal, the same way Allison did when she started writing. Most people seem to struggle with writing about themselves, getting vulnerable, telling a story that might get them made fun of. But, not Webber. Webber is a kid who draws in class to stay focused. He pays attention and asks questions. When he speaks, his words matter. By the end of the first week of school, Allison had an inkling Webber was brilliant and unique. The Hispanic Heritage Month's Essay Contest was optional for the school but a graded class assignment for Allison's class. The students worked on the 500-word essay in class and those who weren't Hispanic were stumped. Allison told them to write about being stumped. On the day the essay was due, Webber handed in an incredibly mature and well-written essay. A week later, at the culmination of the week's Hispanic heritage celebration, Webber won the competition. Today, we bring you Webber's essay, completely written on his own. Allison did no editing. What's cool about this essay and many essays that are created from a writing prompt, is that Webber played the piano and let his mind wander. On this episode we talk about ways to relax our minds so we can write--either through being quiet, playing a sport, or using another art form. Webber is a 12-year-old student at Ransom Everglades Middle School in Coconut Grove, Florida. His story is called The Bossa Nova.Writing Class Radio is hosted and produced by Allison Langer, Andrea Askowitz, and Zorina Frey. Join us on the latest Naval History podcast as we chat with this year's winners in the Professional Historian category of the CNO Naval History Essay Contest, Lieutenant Colonel Pete Owen, USMC (Retired), and historian Andrew Blackley.
We held a writing contest to celebrate our third year anniversary, and it is our pleasure to present our essay contest winner, est, by Mia Idrissi to you today. Mia Idrissi grew up in Seattle, WA in a home filled with gifted artists, musicians, and other emotionally challenged people. In her early twenties, she moved to New York determined to be the next Bette Midler. After 10 years at large on the streets of 1980s NY, a couple of trips to rehab, and a few years spent back in Seattle long enough to get married and divorced, she finally met her “person”, her husband Phil. Together they've spent the past 15 years having a blast working in divergent parts of the entertainment industry here in Los Angeles. With a litany of ridiculous, sometimes glamorous, sometimes dangerous adventures, her stories are winding their way into a memoir that is currently incubating. Being the only 16-year-old in an Est training weekend in 1980 full of hundreds of adults is but one of her curious life experiences.
