Lots of fun in this episode. To start off, you'll hear the lovely tones of Exotica Vol. III, by Martin Denny. Its fun music you may, or may not, like. Straight into what's bugging me. I cannot stand that we're questioning "Climate Change" as something that's real. The evidence is in, dummies, and it's for realsies. Recycling, though very underemployed as far as an industry, is easier than ever. There's a way if you have the will. Oh, and there's a shortage of water on this planet folks. I promise you that. In this special “wait, he’s not interviewing a jazz musician” episode, VJC Q&T podcast host Russell Schmidt took the show in a different direction. With a goal of exploring creativity in various fields, and expanding beyond the realm of jazz, he invited comedian Genevieve Rice (https://genevieverice.com/) to share questions and tangents with him. There is certainly much common ground between jazz and comedy: performance aspects, creative development of source material, rhythm and pacing, even improvisation. The wide-ranging discussions in this episode included how a one-time, open mic opportunity grew into a stand-up career for Genevieve, whether or not the writing of a particular joke is ever truly finished, and the impact motherhood has had on her comedy. Laura was introduced to Dr. Kristina Mitchell's (@KMWMitchell) research at the last National University Technology Network (NUTN) conference back in 2017. Kristina's study offered findings around Gender Bias in Student Evaluations from university instruction and was co-authored with Jonathan Martin. We were thrilled to have Kristina on the #InVinoFab Podcast, Episode no. 18 to share about her passion for political science, gender equity, international relations, and action films.Dr. Kristina Mitchell is an Instructor of Political Science at Texas Tech University. Her research interests include pedagogical technique, best practices in higher education, gender and diversity, and issues in international relations. They were a lot more likely to mention his competence or refer to him as a ‘professor.” ~ Dr. Kristina MitchellDr. Mitchell said the language used in the ratings indicated that “we were evaluated on two different sets of criteria.” Comments about her personality or image or her body were being sexually objectified. Kristina said, “Students were looking at me not as a source of expertise on a topic, but either as a barrier to them not getting the grade they wanted because I'm too mean, or as a potential sexual conquest.” This was not a surprise based on her study of research and examination into how learners evaluate women and men differently at the university-level. Welcome to Feel the GLOW Podcast, a fan podcast on the GLOW TV series, now available on Netflix.
Hey Glowers, Today's podcast episode is an interview with San Francisco based reporter and journalist, Melissa Hellmann, who reports on news, arts, culture, health, education, politics and design, and who has traveled to over 20 countries! Melissa is a former colleague of mine from when I lived and worked in Shanghai, and at the time of this interview she's living in Hong Kong and interning for TIME Asia and reporting on Hong Kong-China relations and international affairs. In our interview, she talks about the cool stories she's worked on, some awesome backpacking-in-India tales and other traveling experiences, and the importance of chasing her dreams and having the courage to change careers to work in her passion. A great quote from Melissa in regards to working on her craft and interning before she had her dream job was, "I didn't want to spend my entire day doing something that I wasn't especially interested in, so I needed to have a few hours in the day to do something I was really proud of." And a great jewel about not giving up after she made some mistakes was, "You have to fail to realize what you're capable of doing better." To read some of the stories she's covered and to follow her travel adventures, go to www.MelissaHellmann.com. And to subscribe to my blog, watch Go and Glow TV or to book me for a branding consultation for your business, go to www.GoandGlowProject.com or email me at GoandGlowProject@gmail.com. Until the next podcast, Go and Glow!
