On todays podcast we are featuring Bonnie J Kaplan, PhD, is Professor Emeritus in the Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary. She has published widely on the biological basis of developmental disorders and mental health – particularly, the contribution of nutrition to mental health. Her efforts to educate about the role of nutrition in brain health resulted in her selection in 2017 as one of 150 Canadian Difference Makers in Mental Health, in honour of Canada's 150th birthday. In 2019 she was honoured with the Dr. Rogers Prize for Excellence in Integrative, complementary medicine. In 2021 she was chosen as one of the top “7 Over 70” in Calgary, partly for her book The Better Brain, written with Professor Julia Rucklidge and published by Harper Collins, as well as her two charitable funds supporting research by junior colleagues who study nutrition and mental health (over $1 million CAD distributed). Her primary goal is to bring nutrition education and treatment to the forefront of mental health care. The best news is Dr. Kaplan is coming to my hometown Parry Sound on November 2nd to present at the Stockey Centre on the topic of “The Importance of Nutrition for Brain Health and Resilience.” This event was going to be hosted at the Parry Sound Hospital but apparently a doctor there was opposed to it who essentially stated her work was not based in science. I found this so hard to believe since Bonnie has spent so much of her life in the field of research, and has 142 peer reviewed publications to prove it. So as a community of passionate people about a food as medicine approach as an incredible tool to enhance mental health we found a way to host her here ANYWAYS and for FREE to the general public. So all are welcome to attend this event which will be held from 1pm – 3pm, November 2nd at the Stockey Center in Parry Sound. All donations are going to two local programs to provide fresh food for their participants at The Drop supporting local youth and Hope Pregnancy Center supporting local pregnant moms. Thanks to Home Depot and Sweet Sobriety for sponsoring this event. Vanessa Kehl tells us a very brave story about a difficult time in her youth that affected her for a very long time. Vanessa has been married to her husband, Andy, for 39 years. They have a daughter, Rachel. She is an accountant for a wheelchair company. At 17 years of age, Vanessa found out she was pregnant. Her circumstances caused her a great deal of fear, and she secretly chose toend that pregnancy. This decision would haunt her for the next 20 years. After high school, she joined a community theatre group that was performing "Godspell." Because of the story of that musical and the other Christians in the company, she came to know the real Jesus! This was life changing! She met her husband soon after that and they spent many years serving together in the Baptist Children's Home. Vanessa has experienced the freedom of God's forgiveness and she has learned how to finally forgive herself and find peace and redemption in Christ. She has also volunteered at the Hope Pregnancy Center and helped others going through circumstances similar to her own teenage experiences. Search for Significance by Robert S. "The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much." James 5:16All Jim Maxim ever knew as a child was dysfunction. His father's alcoholism caused the family home to be repossessed by the bank, and he turned to booze and hard drugs to numb the pain. One day while driving under the influence of the drugs and the pain of his reality, he was in a terrible car wreck that left him hanging on the precipice of death, where he recalls actually seeing demons in his subconscious.Although not an overly religious person, Jim's mother prayed fervently for his recovery. Thankfully her prayers were answered and Jim did recover and now ministers to broken people the world over on the healing and life-giving power of fervent prayer. In this episode, you'll hear:-"All I knew was dysfunction": Jim's rocky childhood path to a relationship with Jesus...04:30-A horrific car wreck leads to a mother's heartfelt prayer for her child...08:00-"Jesus, what do you want me to do?"...15:00-Jesus has been made real to me. Now what?...19:30-The moment Jim knew beyond a shadow of a doubt his life would never be the same...23:12-The power of prayer (even when we don't know how to pray)...27:30-Why we need to keep praying, even though we feel like we're finished praying...34:10-Why Jim chose Acts 4:13 as the theme verse for his business...37:30-If you choose to partner with God, you'd better be planning for BIG THINGS...44:30Resources mentioned:Acts 413About the guest:Nearly 50 years ago, Jim Maxim was at the lowest point of his life. As Jim lay at death's door, Jim's mother prayed for the soul of her son. God answered her prayer and Jim's life was claimed, redeemed, and transformed for Jesus Christ. The dramatic story of Jim's conversion is found in his book, “Face-to-Face with God.”Jim served our country as a Marine. In business, he created multiple successful companies within the automotive industry. While working as an entrepreneur, Jim served God in prison ministries, speaking, and as a board member of ministries like Hope Pregnancy Center, The Valley Forge Leadership Prayer Breakfast, and others. In 2011, Jim and his wife Cathy, founded Acts413 Ministries where they evangelize, counsel, and minister in the name of Jesus all over the world. In particular, Jim has been burdened to pray, and to lead others in intercessory prayer, for pastors, their families and churches. The highlight of Acts413 Ministries is city wide prayer gatherings held throughout the United States. They serve as a catalyst to mobilize the body of Christ to intercede for our pastors and their families. Christians from every denomination, socioeconomic background, culture, and color to worship and pray through scripture in the name of Jesus Christ. While the prayers may cover many topics, there is always a special focus on interceding for pastors, their families, and churches. Jim firmly believes that the Church is the primary plan for ministering to God's people on earth. Jim has been married to his lovely bride Cathy for 46 years and has three sons, three daughter-in-laws, and three grandchildren.

Full Hour | In today's third hour, Dom leads off the Dom Giordano Program by discussing the religious angle of the Roe v. Wade reversal, lamenting about a local reporter who has turned a strange direction on abortion after reporting on deeply Catholic issues. Then, Giordano jumps into a conversation centered on inflation, telling about the ridiculous gas prices both locally and nationally, and tells about the ridiculous price of movie tickets after seeing Elvis over the weekend. Then, Dom welcomes Latrice Booker, Director of Philadelphia's HOPE Pregnancy Center, back onto the Dom Giordano Program after she joined the show a couple weeks ago after her building was vandalized after the leak of the Roe reversal, which was solidified into law late last week. First, Giordano asks Booker what this ruling means for organizations like HOPE, with Booker telling that the organization continues to move forward knowing the work needs to be done. Then, Booker takes Giordano through the help that the center provides to pregnant women, telling of the power of hope. Also, Booker tells listeners how they can get involved in their local pregnancy centers, and tells of MultiplyHope.Life. (Photo by Getty Images)

Dom Giordano, WPHT host and former teacher, has dedicated much of his daily show toward parents who are taking it into their own hands to push back against school boards that have a negative impact on their children. This has culminated in a weekly podcast on education, Readin', Writin', and Reason, which has allowed wonderful relationships to develop between Giordano, educators, and parents throughout the country who are speaking out against overbearing school boards. First, Dom welcomes Latrice Booker, Director of the HOPE Pregnancy Center, onto the podcast after the pro-life center was attacked by pro-abortion groups with broken windows and vandalism. First, Giordano asks Booker for the mission statement of the Center, with Booker laying out the positive influences that HOPE has on the Philadelphia community. Then, Giordano asks Booker about the vandalism that took place over the weekend, with Booker telling of the situation and thankfully revealing that the inside of the organization was left untouched. Giordano asks whether there has been any media contact after the incident, with Booker affirming that many media outlets have indeed reached out although there hasn't been much coverage. Then, Stephanie Taub, Senior Counsel with the First Liberty Institute representing Coach Joe Kennedy in his Supreme Court case, returns to Readin' Writin' and Reason for an update on the case as it sits in the highest court of the country. Coach Joe Kennedy was suspended and later fired from his post as a High School football coach because he prayed with players after football games. The firing school district alleges that students felt uncomfortable and felt forced to partake in the prayer circles, with the Supreme Court deciding how this plays out in the frame of religious freedom. Taub tells that the representation team expects a verdict within the next 2 weeks, and defends her client's stance against allegations levied his way by politicians and media members.

A daily news briefing from Catholic News Agency, powered by artificial intelligence. Ask your smart speaker to play “Catholic News,” or listen every morning wherever you get podcasts. www.catholicnewsagency.com - A pro-life pregnancy center in Philadelphia was vandalized last weekend with smashed windows and graffiti. Latrice Booker, director of Hope Pregnancy Center in Philadelphia, told CNA that when she drove by her clinic Saturday, June 11, she found four windows smashed, with one written on with graffiti. It is unclear what the graffiti says. Three glass doors were smashed as well. As of Tuesday afternoon, the windows were boarded up and the clinic is in the process of repairs, but they are still open for business. The clinic offers all its services to help women and families in need at no cost. The clinic director said that the clinic is not dissuaded in its mission by the vandalism and called on people of faith to “stand tall” despite vitriol against pro-life people. https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/251546/philadelphia-pro-life-clinic-vandalized Pope Francis said this week that no Christian is exempt from aiding the poor. In his message for the 2022 World Day of the Poor, published on June 14, the pope said that the worst thing that can happen to a Christian community is to be “dazzled by the idol of wealth, which ends up chaining us to an ephemeral and bankrupt vision of life.” “Where the poor are concerned, it is not talk that matters; what matters is rolling up our sleeves and putting our faith into practice through a direct involvement, one that cannot be delegated,” Pope Francis said. “No one must say that they cannot be close to the poor because their own lifestyle demands more attention to other areas. This is an excuse commonly heard in academic, business or professional, and even ecclesial circles. None of us can think we are exempt from concern for the poor and for social justice,” he added. https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/251539/pope-francis-no-christian-is-exempt-from-aiding-the-poor Today, the Church celebrates Saint Germaine Cousin, a simple and pious young girl who lived in Pibrac, France in the late 1500s. Germaine was born in 1579 to poor parents. Her father was a farmer, and her mother died when she was still an infant. She was born with a deformed right arm and hand, as well as the disease of scrofula, a tubercular condition. Banished from her house, she tended to the family's flock of sheep every day. Despite her hardships, she lived each day full of thanksgiving and joy, and spent much of her time praying the Rosary and teaching the village children about the love of God. She was barely fed and had an emaciated figure, yet despite this she shared the little bread that she had with the poor of the village. After she died at a young age, her body was found to be incorrupt. People in the surrounding area began praying for her intercession and obtaining miraculous cures for illnesses. https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/saint/st-germaine-cousin-497

My guest for today’s episode is Tricia Goyer. I first interviewed Tricia back in April (Episode 13), and I love that I get to circle back around with her to hear what’s been going on in her world over the last few months. Tricia is a busy homeschooling mom of ten, a grandmother to now four grandchildren, and wife to her husband John. Not sure how she manages to find the time, but this best-selling author writes both fictional and non-fiction titles offering encouragement and hope to readers around the world. Tricia is the author of more than sixty books, although I’m pretty sure it’s more than that now. She calls Little Rock, Arkansas home and is the founder of Hope Pregnancy Center in Kalispell, MT. Tricia and I got the chance to see each other a few months ago at MOMcon, MOPS International’s annual conference, and it was awesome to be able to catch up with her. In today’s episode, you’ll hear all about what she’s got going on in the homeschooling, adoption, and writing arenas. She shares some amazing stories here. Seriously, I cried during recording. It was that good. Don’t miss our latest episode, “Walk It Out.”
My guest for today's episode is Tricia Goyer. I first interviewed Tricia back in April (Episode 13), and I love that I get to circle back around with her to hear what's been going on in her world over the last few months. Tricia is a busy homeschooling mom of ten, a grandmother to now four grandchildren, and wife to her husband John. Not sure how she manages to find the time, but this best-selling author writes both fictional and non-fiction titles offering encouragement and hope to readers around the world. Tricia is the author of more than sixty books, although I'm pretty sure it's more than that now. She calls Little Rock, Arkansas home and is the founder of Hope Pregnancy Center in Kalispell, MT.
