Evolutionary biologists have attempted in a multitude of different ways to genetically alter a species of fruit fly in an attempt to create some kind of new species. But their efforts have not yielded the desired results. In addition, contemporary discoveries pertaining to our own human genetic make up have brought a significant challenge to the reigning orthodoxy of Neo-Darwinian evolution. Naturalists are bereft of any kind of explanation regarding from where the information in the genome has come or how nature on its own could create such specified and complex information. This week on the Profile we wrap up Daniel Ray's informal conversation with Discovery Institute fellow Dr. Paul Nelson. Paul discusses these and other philosophical and theological implications of Darwin's groundbreaking theory for us today. Paul Nelson, PhD, Senior Fellow, Center for Science and Culture, is an Adjunct Professor in the Master of Arts Program in Science & Religion at Biola University. He received his PhD in the philosophy of biology and evolutionary theory from the University of Chicago, and he lectures frequently at colleges and universities throughout the United States and Europe. His scholarly articles have appeared in journals such as Biology & Philosophy, BIO-Complexity, Zygon, Rhetoric and Public Affairs, and Touchstone, and his book chapters have appeared in the anthologies Mere Creation (Intervarsity Press), Signs of Intelligence (Brazos), Intelligent Design Creationism and Its Critics (MIT Press), Darwin, Design, Public Education (Michigan State University Press), and Next Generation Systematics (Cambridge University Press). Heis co-author of thebiology textbook Explore Evolution, and he has appeared in several films on intelligent design for Illustra Media. Since Charles Darwin's 1859 publication of On the Origin of Species there has been much debate and discussion about the relationship of Darwin's naturalistic hypothesis as it relates to and/or contravenes the creation account found in the Book of Genesis. Darwin's ideas have gone far beyond mere empirical science as they touch on the very philosophical, theological, and moral aspects of the origin and development of human beings. On this episode of the Profile we speak with Discovery Institute fellow Dr. Paul Nelson about these implications of Neo-Darwinian evolution and the challenges facing the theory of natural selection today. Daniel Ray caught up with Paul at the 2025 Science and Faith Conference in Denton, Texas this past February. It's a conversation you don't want to miss!Paul Nelson, PhD, Senior Fellow, Center for Science and Culture, is an Adjunct Professor in the Master of Arts Program in Science & Religion at Biola University. From 2016, * Raymond Damadian on RSR: Real Science Radio co-host Bob Enyart interviews Raymond, inventor of the MRI magnetic resonance imaging device. If you love learning about the history of scientific discovery, inventions, and absolute truth, you will absolutely LOVE listening to today's program! A year ago Bob logged onto Wikipedia to edit the entry on the MRI after noticing that the events listed in the History section of that article were out of chronological order. After making a minor change, moving the sentence about Dr. Damadian earlier in the section to where it belonged chronologically, Bob noticed that the heavy-handed Darwinist editors at Wikipedia, obviously seeking to diminish the contribution of young-earth creationist Damadian, reversed Bob's correct and to the day of our interview, they insist on presenting the History of the MRI out of chronological order. Selah. * Upright MRI: Dr. Damadian explains the benefits of the Upright MRI. This technological advance help doctors treat patients with spinal column ailments, MS, and many other health challenges. Just click on the image for more information, and check out the doc's informative website at fonar.com. * rsr.org/mri: If you'd like to share today's show, feel free to use our permanent URL for this program, rsr.org/mri. And at rsr.org/mri-2 check out next week's conclusion to this interview! Thanks! * Update -- Upright MRI and MS Diagnosis and Treatment: Hear the October 7, 2016 RSR follow-up program with Damadian at rsr.org/mri-ms on his important discoveries and recommended treatment for multiple scleroris. * Update MRI Used for Basic Research: The Illustra Media video, Metamorphosis, uses MRI to explore the development of the butterfly inside the chrysalis. You'll just LOVE that DVD and you can get a copy, thanks to Illustra, Dr. Damadian, and God, at rsr.org/butterfly. * Please Support RSR: Please consider making a one-time or automatic monthly donation by clicking on the Store tab (above, which is at rsr.org) or call 1-800-8Enyart (836-9278) to help us reach our vital $30,000 goal for our February 2016 telethon to keep RSR broadcasting for another year! * Damadian Not a "Real Scientist" But an MD: Dr. Damadian and Bob Enyart discussed a couple of the objections that the scientific community had to recognizing him as the inventor of one of the greatest advances in physics in the realm of medical science. One objection is that he is a biblical (i.e., young earth) creationist. A second objection is that Raymond Damadian is not a "real" scientist but only a medial doctor. Bob pointed out a parallel instance whereby creationist will ignore the work, including astounding confirmed discoveries, of Dr. Walt Brown, PhD from MIT in mechanical engineering, because he is not a professional geologist. [After today's program, during their off-air discussion, Dr. Damadian happily agreed to receive a copy of RSR's Global Flood and Hydroplate Theory video. If you enjoy these excerpts of that educational presentation, please consider getting a Blu-ray or DVD or download of the full video!
On today's ID the Future, biologist and intelligent design researcher Ann Gauger tells host Eric Anderson the rest of her story about how she was drawn into the intelligent design movement. The two discuss everything from the challenges she faced making it in a male-dominated field to the evidential power of beauty in the natural world. But how did she end up in the ID movement? After stepping out of a promising career as a research scientist to focus on her family and meeting the needs of an autistic child, she assumed that her life as a scientist was behind her. But then several years later she began reading the work of Darwin skeptics and intelligent design trailblazers—Phillip Johnson, Jonathan Read More › Source

Have you ever struggled to wrap your head around something really big. Perhaps you have stared at the ocean, or the Grand Canyon. For me, it is looking up into the night sky and trying to comprehend just how far away the stars are. Even Mars, at its closest approach to Earth, is 33.9 million miles away.1 We sort of glaze over at that number - 33.9 million. We know sports stars that sign contracts about that big! But as a distance, it is harder to comprehend. You could fly around the equator of the Earth over 1,300 times, and you would still not travel the same distance as going to Mars. An even bigger number to comprehend is the probability of life arising by chance. Take just the development of a single protein molecule. We're not talking about all the proteins to form DNA and a simple cellular life form. Just forming one protein by chance has a probability of 1 in 1 followed by 164 zeros.2 That's a big number! And that means the odds of it happening are horribly bad! But many people just glaze over at that number. They think that given enough time, even the impossible can happen by chance. It you really want to understand how impossible it is for life to form by chance, take a moment to watch a 10 minute video on this topic. A link is in the show notes. You will see, that the overwhelming odds are in favor of creation, not evolution. 1. From the BEL archieves, * Real Science Radio has a Far Ranging Conversation with Krauss: Co-hosts Bob Enyart and Fred Williams present Bob's interview of theoretical physicist (emphasis on the theoretical), atheist Lawrence Krauss. Fred says, "It's David vs. Goliath, but without the slingshot." As the discussion ranges from astronomy and anatomy to cosmology and physics, most folks would presume that Dr. Krauss would take apart Enyart's arguments, especially when the Bible believer got the wrong value for the electron-to-proton mass ratio. But the conversation reveals fascinating dynamics from the creation/evolution debate. (The planned 25-minute interview ran 40 minutes, so there's also a Krauss Part II and once in each half we say, "Stop the tape, stop the tape," to comment.) * "All Evidence Overwhelmingly Supports the Big Bang": Contradicting Dr. Krauss'

On today's Bible Answer Man broadcast (08/25/20), Hank welcomes writer, director, and producer Lad Allen to discuss Illustra Media's film, Origin: Design, Chance, and the First Life on Earth. Where did life come from? Why is there something rather than nothing? Why are we here? How did life on Earth begin? Hank and Lad address these questions along with some of the erroneous ideas posited by evolutionists such as panspermia and the multiverse theory. When looking at the evidence, however, it's clear that chance cannot explain the complexities and origin of the universe. In fact, all the evidence points to a divine Creator who has a purpose for His creation.https://www.equip.org/product/cri-resource-cri2008wa/
On today's Bible Answer Man broadcast, Hank welcomes back Dr. Paul Nelson, Senior Fellow of the Discovery Institute and Adjunct Professor in the Master of Arts Program in Science & Religion at Biola University. Illustra Media's film, Origin: Design, Chance and the First Life on Earth examines a question that has baffled science for centuries: How did the first life arise at a moment in time when there was no life of any kind? Hank and Dr. Nelson discuss the purpose and importance of this film; the need to address the topic of origins with gentleness and respect; the odds of life emerging on earth by chance; and the fact that science and Scripture don't have to be enemies.https://www.equip.org/product/cri-resource-cri2008wa/

On today's Bible Answer Man broadcast (08/12/20), Hank welcomes Dr. Paul Nelson, Senior Fellow of the Discovery Institute to discuss Illustra Media's film, Living Waters: Intelligent Design in the Oceans of the Earth. https://www.equip.org/product/cri-resource-cri2008wa/Hank and Dr. Nelson explore the change that has taken place in our culture from an open view of science, which is a gift from God, to scientism and the philosophy of naturalism, which says everything can be explained by purely material processes. One of the features of Living Waters is the amazing echolocation system of dolphins. A dolphin's bio sonar is so precise that it can detect a BB at the bottom of a pool and distinguish the difference between a ping pong ball and a golf ball. Such precision cannot come from blind chance, but can only be the product of intelligent design
After playing college football in sunny Southern California, Director and Producer, Lad Allen told his father that he wanted to become a Filmmaker. His dad simply responded, “well, be a good one.” That was the push Lad needed to pursue his passion and dedicate his life to making high quality documentary films to reveal the incredible design throughout all of creation. In addition to being a kind and wonderful West Coast soul, Lad Allen is the founder of Illustra Media – a nonprofit film production ministry based in Southern California. Since 1997, Illustra has produced more than 100 films that explore the scientific case for intelligent design in the universe. These documentaries have been translated into 25 languages and are distributed throughout the world. Lad will tell you that he is married to the most wonderful woman on the planet and that he is the proud father of four sons.Through the work of Illustra Media, Lad and his team are helping us all get a glimpse at the incredible life and beauty we are surrounded by each day.

Dr. Paul Nelson is a philosopher and a prominent leader in the Intelligent Design movement as well as a key figure in the films of Illustra Media. Dr. Nelson joins Hank to discuss how the power of cinema can convey the complexity of the universe and how the films by Illustra Media, such as the most recent film The Call of the Cosmos, use the evidence of creation as an evangelistic tool to expand the kingdom of Christ without saying a word. Topics discussed include: the significance of the new film from Illustra Media, The Call of the Cosmos (9:00); does nature reveal the existence of God? (11:05); how NASA scientist Robert Jastrow began to hold the belief that if there was a beginning to the universe, there is also a Creator (14:30); the difference the films by Illustra Media are making around the globe and how Christians can use these films as an evangelistic tool to transform lives (18:10); does God speak to us through the book of nature, His creation? (23:00); is the size and complexity of the universe a sign of a creator? (28:25); lunar eclipses as an example that we are living on a privileged planet (32:20); was Carl Sagan right when he called our planet insignificant? (36:20); looking to Christ as our example for how to practice proper evangelism (40:15); what is Intelligent Design? What is the state of the Intelligent Design movement? (45:20); the importance of following the truth, wherever it leads (48:20); arguments against popular Darwinian positions such as his view of common descent and Darwin's Tree of Life (51:00); what the theory of evolution fails to explain [click for further review as referenced in conversation https://bit.ly/2z6NDdZ ] (56:20); remembering the presence, power, and control of the Holy Spirit (59:20); how Illustra Media harnesses the power of a camera lens to reveal the complexity of design in the universe (1:02:00); the metamorphosis of a butterfly as a metaphor for resurrection (1:06:30); thinking critically about the popular icons of evolution (1:13:00); how Paul Nelson once wanted to be an artist before he fell in love with the beauty of science forty years ago and never looked back (1:15:35).
On today's Bible Answer Man broadcast, Hank presents the newest resource available for those that support the ministry of CRI all this month, The Call of the Cosmos: What the Universe Reveals about God, a new film by Illustra Media. This stunning new film points to a cosmic designer with unsurpassed artistry, wisdom, and unfathomable power. It's hard to believe that anyone who watches this film could walk away unconvinced of a creator, making it must-see viewing for believers and skeptics alike. Hank also shares a sermon from St. John Chrysostom that was sent to him by a dear friend and it has been a balm of Gilead in Hank's life and he prays that it will be a balm of Gilead in your life as well. Hank also answers the following questions:Why did Mary give a sin offering if she was without sin?My prayer group is going to see these so-called modern day apostles. How do I confront them about this?Does the law of divorce in Deuteronomy 24 apply to us today?
God reveals Himself to us through the things He has made. Lad Allen, founder of Illustra Media, believes in the power of preaching without words, and that the observation of the universe is one of the most powerful ways God reveals Himself to us. Illustra Media has made internationally acclaimed documentary films exploring the case for intelligent design in the universe for more than 20 years. On this edition of Hank Unplugged, Hank and Lad discuss past productions of Illustra Media in addition to their shared excitement about the power of digital media to share the gospel through ventures such as Allen's new John 10:10 Project. Topics discussed include: how Illustra Media has been able to produce internationally acclaimed documentary films making a scientific case for intelligent design in the universe (3:00); the power of a supportive spouse (5:20); the unique way that travelling can teach us (7:00); evoking a sense of wonder and general revelation through creation (8:30); metamorphosis as an example of intelligent design (10:55); having healthy relationships with people we disagree with (13:35); how advances in animation allow us to unveil and magnify complex scientific ideas in ways otherwise impossible (16:30); the metamorphosis of a caterpillar to a butterfly as an analogy for our resurrection in Christ (20:30); Bill Nye propagating Carl Sagan's materialist worldview that we are insignificant and alone in the universe (24:45); the vision of The John 10:10 Project (29:30); the power of digital media to share the gospel (33:20); working with Joni Eareckson Tada (43:30); a preview of upcoming short films by The John 10:10 Project (46:15); demonstrating the evidence of a designer by investigating God's creation (51:00); Hank shares a personal testimony of God's providence (53:25); investigating Messianic prophecy as a powerful apologetic tool (1:05:30); King of Creation: Meditation on God's Wisdom and Works (1:09:40); the importance of reflecting the glory of God in all that we do and working for an audience of one (1:12:15); the best year of Hank's life is the year he was diagnosed with cancer (1:58:30); how Illustra Media is able to produce monumental projects out of a spare bedroom (1:16:00).
