This week on the Worn & Wound podcast, Zach Kazan is back from Geneva, fighting jetlag, and chatting with Devin Pennypacker about the broad strokes of Watches & Wonders, how the show was received back home, and some of the notable watches released last week. We'll have a much more thorough breakdown of Watches & Wonders and the surrounding events next week once the whole team has returned from Switzerland, so stay tuned for that discussion coming soon. The rest of the episode is dedicated to talking about a unique collecting phenomenon: the consolidation that many collectors attempt in light of the announcement of so many new novelties. It turns out that post Watches & Wonders is often a great time to troll WatchRecon, eBay, and elsewhere for pre-owned watches being unloaded to fund a newly announced shiny new thing. Devin is currently going through a bit of collection purge himself, and he and Zach talk about how they decide to let something go, and when they know it's the right time to jump on something new.To stay on top of all new episodes, you can subscribe to The Worn & Wound Podcast on all major platforms including Apple Podcasts, Stitcher, Spotify, and more. Welcome to Campfire Classics, a Literary Comedy Podcast!! This one goes some places. The story, yes, but also your hosts. Tangent alert. Heather picks a story by Frank Stockton, an author we've not heard from since his appearance 4 years ago with the story "The Lady or the Tiger." Ken can't finish a sentence, Heather makes up a new word, and dialects wander, generally. Also, this is the week of Aroused Amusements. Oh, and your hosts acknowledge (grudgingly) the Big Game. Send us a textThe Watchmaker Argument for God's existence, also known as the teleological argument, can be summarized as follows:Complex objects, like watches, are designed by intelligent creators. The life exhibits even greater complexity and apparent design than human-made objects. Therefore, the natural world must also have an intelligent creator, which is presumed to be God.This argument, popularized by William Paley in the 18th century, uses the analogy of finding a watch on a beach to illustrate that the intricate design of life and implies the existence of a divine creator. It suggests that just as a watch's complexity points to a watchmaker, the complexity of life points to a cosmic designer.http://buymeacoffee.com/atlaspodcast https://www.youtube.com/@AtlasApologia https://www.instagram.com/atlas_apologia/Support the show

If you're considering a career in watchmaking, it's essential to know whether you have what it takes. Watchmaking is a very individualized career with a specific set of skills, and while it takes years of training, it also requires some innate traits and talent.

My guests this week are watchmaker Dr. Rebecca Struthers and Lewis Heath, founder of AnOrdain. The two are friends and collaborators, so it was fun to get them both together for a conversation about watchmaking in the U.K., what they're up to, and what's next. Lewis Heath founded AnOrdain in 2015. Since then, the Scottish brand has become known for its beautifully crafted enamel dials. He founded the company after working as a product designer and deciding he wanted to make something closer to home. Dr. Rebecca Struthers is a watchmaker and co-founder of Struthers Watchmakers along with her husband and fellow watchmaker, Craig. The two began their business as restorers, but after realizing they'd made pretty much every other component for other people's watches, decided to build their own. This was the beginning of Project 248, their effort to build their own in-house movement. Struthers also became the first watchmaker in the United Kingdom to complete a Ph.D program, making her the country's first "watch doctor." The Neglectful Watchmaker ep.713 E. Kimball still has nothing to promote, except his other story published on Tall Tale TV which was wonderfully brought to life. Submission guidelines can be found at http://www.TallTaleTV.com ---- About Tall Tale TV ---- Hi there! My name is Chris Herron and I'm an audiobook narrator. In 2015, I suffered from poor Type 1 diabetes control which lead me to become legally blind for almost a year. The doctors didn't give me much hope, predicting an 80% chance that I would never see again. But I refused to give up and changed my lifestyle drastically. Through sheer willpower (and an amazing eye surgeon) I beat the odds and regained my vision. During that difficult time, I couldn't read or write, which was devastating as they had always been a source of comfort for me since childhood. However, my wife took me to the local library where she read out the titles of audiobooks to me. I selected some of my favorite books, such as the Disc World series, Name of the Wind, Harry Potter, and more, and the audiobooks brought these stories to life in a way I had never experienced before. They helped me through the darkest period of my life and I fell in love with audiobooks. Once I regained my vision, I decided to pursue a career as an audiobook narrator instead of a writer. That's why I created Tall Tale TV, to support aspiring authors in the writing communities that I had grown to love before my ordeal. My goal was to help them promote their work by providing a promotional audio short story that showcases their writing skills to readers. They say the strongest form of advertising is word of mouth, so I offer a platform for readers to share these videos and help spread the word about these talented writers. Please consider sharing these stories with your friends and family to support these amazing authors. Matt, Darren and G return with the first of a new double episode with special guest Richard, aka @preferablyfolded, a collector and professional watchmaker. Who watches the Watchmaker? In this week's episode of Apologetics 201, we dive head first into the arguments for the existence of creation. Was it, as William Paley put it, an intelligent, benevolet God who like a Watchmaker put the mechanism together? Was it as Darwin purposed a series of changes over time left to chance? Was it as Alan Moore purposed in Watchmen of a Makerless Mechanism that God can create within? Was it as HP Lovecraft purposed with Cosmic Indifference that the mechanisms of the universe move with no god or Uncaused Cause putting them into motion and therefore the universe is a machine that doesn't care about you? Aslo, is there a better way to do apologetics then just trying to win arguments? Nicholas Manousos has had a fascinating journey from Silicon Valley to making silicon parts for watch movements, and now leads the Horological Society of New York. In this two-part conversation with Tania Edwards, we learn how Nick's passion for watchmaking has led him along a diverse path. After watchmaking school, he experimented with 3D printing for the watch industry and in this podcast he brought along his Tourbillion 1000% -- a perfect teaching tool for a complicated movement. Nick also believes in the resurgence of the American watch industry, so much so that he started making the most difficult part of a movement in the hope of getting attention for American watchmaking. He started Fireshouse Horology which manufactured silicon balance springs, an extremely specialist skill that only a few companies, mostly in Europe and Japan excel at. At the end of this podcast, Tania asks Nick a question that many people would like the answer to: "Will there ever be a thriving American watch industry again?" But so much of the fabric of our modern lives is entirely dependent on one thing: the ability to accurately tell the time. Watchmaker and author Rebecca Struthers joins Ellie Cawthorne to chart the long history of watches and other timekeepers, and reveals how they have revolutionised humanity's perception of time. True heroes are so inspiring, and Corrie Ten Boom is one of the best. There is so much more to her story than we see in The Hiding Place, and Larry Loftis has written a non-fiction thriller to share it with us. She walks out the gospel in one particular way in The Watchmaker's Daughter, and we would do well to follow her example!
