Steve and Devin went live for Episode 113 as the World Series reached Los Angeles with the series tied 1–1. Through two games, it's been everything you'd expect from two balanced, well-prepared teams. Toronto took Game 1 by sticking to their plan — long at-bats, traffic on the bases, and patience that wore Blake Snell down early. Addison Barger's pinch-hit grand slam, the first in World Series history, broke the game open and set the tone for how the Blue Jays want to play. The Dodgers answered in Game 2 behind Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who threw a complete game while allowing just one run and no walks. His command and tempo completely reset the series before it shifts to Dodger Stadium. Now it's 1–1, and both teams have shown what they do best. Toronto creates pressure and forces mistakes, while Los Angeles controls pace and leans on execution. The rest of the series will come down to which approach holds up longer. Steve and Devin also discussed Tony Vitello leaving Tennessee to manage the Giants, Bryce Harper's frustration with trade speculation, and Rob Manfred's comments on MLB's ongoing gambling investigations. The 2025 edition of the World Series got off to a raucous start after the Toronto Blue Jays took Game 1 with an offensive blitz, leaving everyone wondering if this could be the year the Commissioner's Trophy lands in Canada. However, Yoshinobu Yamamoto put those early thoughts to rest with his Game 2 gem that helped the Los Angeles Dodgers even the series at a game apiece. With the Fall Classic now shifting to Dodger Stadium, the question is whether both teams will be returning to Toronto before a champion is crowned. On this episode of the Baseball Bar-B-Cast, Jake Mintz and Jordan Shusterman recap all the action from the first two games, including the Blue Jays' impressive offensive onslaught in Game 1 — highlighted by the first-ever pinch-hit grand slam in World Series history. They also discuss the complete-game shutout from Yamamoto in Game 2 that has helped establish him as one of the best pitchers in all of baseball.Later in the episode, Jake and Jordan preview what to expect from Game 3 in L.A., with Tyler Glasnow taking on Max Scherzer to see who will go up 2–1 in the series. The guys also discuss the San Francisco Giants hiring Tony Vitello as their new manager and why it's such an out-of-the-box move.1:44 – The Opener: Yamamoto's Game 2 gem8:49 – Recapping Dodgers' victory20:54 – Game 1 recap32:28 – Addison Barger sleeps on the couch38:14 – World Series Game 3 preview43:31 – Giants hire Tony Vitello Subscribe to Baseball Bar-B-Cast on your favorite podcast app:
The World Series is tied after two games. Game 1 saw the Toronto Blue Jays bats explode for a 9-run inning on route to an 11-4 win. The inning was punctuated by Addison Barger's pinch hit grand slam, the first in Series history. Game 2 saw the Los Angeles Dodgers rally back behind a Yoshinobu Yamamoto complete game and solo shots form Will Smith and Max Muncy as they won 5-1.The series shifts to LA for the next 3 games where the Jays will send Max Scherzer and Shane Bieber up against Tyler Glasnow and Shohei Ohtani. Can the Jays wake up their bats again or will the Dodgers starting pitching keep them quiet?
After a cap-tip-worthy performance from Yoshinobu Yamamoto in Game Two (and an inexplicable appearance from the Jonas Brothers) the Blue Jays and Dodgers are taking the World Series to California tied at one game apiece. The Jays will need to win one of the next three to get back to Canada with a chance to become champions, and this week we talk about how we got here, and how they might get there.Plus: The Bo Bichette of it all, folk hero Addison Barger, and thoughts on upcoming starters Max Scherzer and Shane Bieber.FOR AN AD-FREE VERSION OF EVERY EPISODE AND TO UNLOCK ALL OF OUR PLAYOFF COVERAGE, FIND US AT patreon.com/BJHH Hosted on Acast. Early on, it looked like the Dodgers would use a familiar postseason plan in the Fall Classic opener. The Jays had other ideas, though, erupting with a nine-run sixth -- highlighted by pinch-hitter Addison Barger's grand slam -- in a Game 1 rout. Guests: Addison Barger, Bo Bichette, Ernie Clement The Blue Jays not only won the opener of the MLB Fall Classic on Friday, they sent a firm message to the defending champion Los Angeles Dodgers that Toronto is not going to be just another pit stop on their road to a repeat. The fans also sent a firm message to Shohei Ohtani when he came to bat in the ninth inning, chanting, "We don't need you!" The Jays exploded for the biggest single inning in a World Series game since 1968, scoring nine runs in the sixth. Bo Bichette, playing for the first time in seven weeks, started that inning with a walk. Ernie Clement gave the Jays the lead with an RBI single three batters later and later still, Addison Barger clubbed the first-ever pinch-hit grand slam in World Series history. All three Blue Jays join us in Deep Left Field to talk about the big game. Plus, we open the mailbag at deepleftfield@thestar.ca!!

American League Championship Series Game Seven RecapSeattle Mariners @ Toronto Blue JaysIt all comes down to this. Game Seven. One team looking for their first AL Pennant in 32 years. The other looking for their first pennant ever. The Blue Jays survived game six thanks to a gutsy outing from youngster Trey Yesavage, as well as homers from Addison Barger and Vladimir Guerrero, Jr. Manager John Schneider will hand the ball to former Cy Young winner Shane Bieber, who delivered a strong start in game three. Expect the leash to be short, and for everyone outside of Yesavage to be available. On the offensive side, do not be shocked if postseason legend George Springer makes a mark, as he often has in previous game sevens. The Mariners have never been closer to a World Series, but they missed their first opportunity to advance. And since they didn't take care of business in Seattle, this is their last shot. Rodríguez, Raleigh, Naylor, and Suárez have done their part at the plate, but the rest of the lineup has practically been nonexistent in this series. If they want to close this series out, the big bats will need some help. Despite getting shelled in game three, George Kirby will take the mound in a winner-take-all game, as he did against Detroit in the ALDS. It will be his first ever playoff start on the road, which may cause some jitters for the righty. Manager Dan Wilson has a lot of options out of the bullpen; however, they've been heavily taxed in the postseason so far. Gabe Speier and Eduard Bazardo have been used in nearly every game, and their effectiveness has waned. The big question is how many outs can Andrés Muñoz get, and will the Mariners have a lead when he enters?Game Seven, here we go!Seattle Radio KIRO - Rick Rizzs and Aaron GoldsmithToronto Radio SN590 - Ben Shulman and Chris LerouxAudio clips from MLB.tvAs always, thank you to Baseball Reference and SABR for statistics, box scores, background information, and much, much more.Catch you next time,P.C.O.

Guest: Blue Jays outfielder Myles Straw Game Four of the American League championship series is going to go down in Blue Jays history because of one singular moment – John Schneider's mound visit in the fifth inning in which Max Scherzer basically barked his manager off the mound. In this playoff bonus episode of Deep Left Field, we'll break down that "conversation" for you, and hear from both Scherzer and Schneider, as well as a couple of innocent bystanders. Outside of that moment, the win for the Jays was massive. Scherzer's unexpected performance on the mound, another huge hit from Andres Gimenez, Addison Barger's incredible performance in right field in a game he expected to start at third base, and the Jays are back on even footing in a series that looked lost when they hopped on the plane to Seattle. Myles Straw joins us to talk about that mound moment as well as the resilience of this team that we've seen all season long and, as always, we'll open up the mailbag at deepleftfield@thestar.ca.
Blake Murphy and Julia Kreuz recap Max Scherzer's incredible performance last night and highlight the big hits and clutch defensive plays leading to the win. Afterwards, Sportsnet's Chris Black (30:06) dives into Andres Gimenez's home run, Daulton Varsho's bases-loaded walk and Addison Barger throwing out Josh Naylor at third base. Sportsnet's Shi Davidi (50:25) reflects on Scherzer's outing and what the removal of Anthony Santander from the roster means. Following that, Nathan Bishop (1:07:49) of ‘The Light Bat' Substack outlines the Mariners' side of the first 4 games and in what capacity Bryan Woo could factor into the rest of the series. Lastly, Dodgers broadcaster Stephen Nelson (1:18:53) recaps the starting pitching and Game 4 between Los Angeles and Milwaukee. The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are those of the hosts and guests and do not necessarily reflect the position of Rogers Sports & Media or any affiliate.

Guests: Blue Jays third baseman Addison Barger, left fielder Davis Schneider, associate manager DeMarlo Hale Deep Left Field is on the road in Seattle with your Toronto Blue Jays as they try to get back in their best-of-seven American League Championship Series with the Seattle Mariners, having lost the first two games. We assess the mood around the clubhouse with Addison Barger and Davis Schneider, the latter of whom may have thrown a little shade on Jose Bautista's famous Bat Flip home run as we spoke on the 10th anniversary of the big swing. DeMarlo Hale was the Jays' bench coach when Bautista hit the homer that shook the baseball world but, more importantly, he was on the staff when that Jays team overcame a two-games-to-none playoff deficit, having lost both games at home. We talk to him about that accomplishment, now that the Jays are trying to do it again. And, as always, we take your comments and questions in the mailbag at deepleftfield@thestar.ca.
BT and Sal unleash a fiery critique on the Toronto Blue Jays after their spectacular meltdown in Game 3, which allowed the Yankees to come back from a 6-1 lead and avoid elimination. The hosts focus on Toronto's costly defensive errors—including an initial drop by Addison Barger—calling it a "bad, bad sign" that proves the Blue Jays are the "lesser team." They discuss the seismic shift in series momentum, now fully believing the "rolling" Yankees will win Game 4 and the series, and question whether the Blue Jays have the mental fortitude to recover from such a catastrophic collapse.
The Blue Jays quite literally kicked away their chance to sweep the Yankees in the American League division series, uncharacteristic errors and shoddy fielding giving New York the opportunity to overcome a five-run deficit and roar back to win the game and keep their playoff hopes alive for at least one more day. We'll go through the gory details for you on this special playoff bonus episode of Deep Left Field: -Did Shane Bieber get taken out of the game too soon? -What happened on that pop-up that Addison Barger missed to open the floodgates? -Should Anthony Santander be in the lineup and, if so, should he be playing the outfield? As well, and as always during the post-season, we open the mailbag at deepleftfield@thestar.ca to go through your questions and comments, including whether it would be wise for the Jays to use Kevin Gausman in Game 4, how they'll work a bullpen game, when will Bo Bichette come back and what's up with Chris Bassitt and Max Scherzer?
Jeff Blair and Kevin Barker break down the Blue Jays' 9-6 loss vs. the Yankees in Game 3 of the ALDS. They take your calls and texts, and they get to the five-run blown lead - who wears that the most? Shane Bieber after only managing 2.2 IP, the defence after an error-filled night, or the bullpen for allowing six runs after Bieber's departure? They get into the decision to pull Bieber, uncharacteristic errors from Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Addison Barger, Anthony Santander's role on defence, and who gets rolled out for Game 4. The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are those of the hosts and guests and do not necessarily reflect the position of Rogers Sports & Media or any affiliates.
Jeff Blair and Kevin Barker open the show discussing Anthony Santander's injury status, the ideal spot for him in the batting order once he returns, Addison Barger cleaning up, and the magnitude of the Blue Jays' final series against the Boston Red Sox. Then, NESN Red Sox's studio host Tom Caron (19:26) jumps on to discuss Boston's path to the post-season, the velocity from their top starters including Lucas Giolito, the glaring gap without Roman Anthony, the ramifications if the club don't make the playoffs, Alex Cora's future, where Aroldis Chapman's year stacks up in his career and Red Sox's history, and who needs to step up during this chase into the Wild Card. Afterwards, we hear from Blue Jays' manager John Schneider on Anthony Santander's road back to becoming active on the roster. The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are those of the hosts and guests and do not necessarily reflect the position of Rogers Sports & Media or any affiliates.

They share expectations for the young starter, takeaways from the Jays' weekend sweep over the Baltimore Orioles, Addison Barger's push for a larger role, and much more. Later, Rays TV analyst and former pitcher Brian Anderson (32:40) joins the show to discuss what's behind Tampa's streaky season, Junior Caminero's breakout year, and how the Rays' bats might attack Yesavage's tricky release point. The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are those of the hosts and guests and do not necessarily reflect the position of Rogers Sports & Media or any affiliates.
Sho Alli and Julia Kreuz break down the Blue Jays' 11-2 win over the Orioles to complete the series sweep in Toronto! They take your calls and texts, and discuss the team's 87th win of the year - with 13 games to go, what's still ahead for the Jays? They get into the offence knocking around the Orioles bullpen, as Ernie Clement, George Springer, and Addison Barger all provided standout moments, and discuss Shane Bieber throwing six innings of one-run ball. Plus, they discuss Trey Yesavage getting the call to the majors, as he is scheduled to make a start for the Blue Jays in Tampa on Monday. They get to your calls and texts, and get right to Alejandro Kirk, who came through with both a pinch-hit RBI single and the game-winning RBI sacrifice fly - how important is it that he gets going offensively again? They discuss the ninth inning at-large, including the Jays stringing together hits off the Orioles bullpen, Tommy Nance and Eric Lauer both pitching well in relief of Max Scherzer, Addison Barger smashing a solo home run, and take a look at the team's playoff positioning with their 86th win now secure. Then, Buffalo Bisons play-by-play voice Pat Malacaro stops by to elaborate on Santander's rehab, Trey Yesavage's adjustment to pitching in AAA, Orelvis Martínez's struggles, and the outlook on Alek Manoah's potential road back to the Majors. Ben Ennis and Brent Gunning open the final show of the week with the Jays' rubber-match win over Houston, gushing over Kevin Gausman's masterpiece, that finished one pitch shy of a “Maddux.” They break down how the complete game builds a three-game cushion in the AL East, gives the bullpen a breather, and sets the tone for the weekend. They highlight the steady contributions from Davis Schneider and Addison Barger, then touch on Anthony Santander's Bisons rehab debut and debate who would sit if he returns this season. After the break they dig into the Green Bay's win over Washington on TNF, highlighting a smothering defense, an efficient Jordan Love, and Jayden Daniels' struggles.
