The Bible we hold is a translation of ancient manuscripts. But does that gap between the original autographs and our English Bibles introduce error we should be worried about? In Lesson 27 of Christian Ethics and the Old Testament, Dave Rich works through the transmission and translation of Scripture—and makes the case that we have every reason for confidence.Rich opens with the logic: reliable manuscripts plus faithful translation equals God's Word in English. Either piece can fail, and he walks through what happens when it does. From there he examines the manuscript evidence for the Old Testament—the Masoretic Text, the Dead Sea Scrolls, and the Septuagint—showing that agreement across those sources is remarkably stable. The one significant variant, Psalm 22:16, turns out to have strong textual support for "they pierced my hands and feet," consistent with its unmistakably messianic context.New Testament transmission is even more extensively attested—over 5,800 Greek manuscripts, with 99.5% of the text determinable from existing evidence. Rich walks through the nature of the variants honestly, showing that the most significant ones are well known, clearly marked in modern translations, and doctrinally non-threatening.The lesson closes with a survey of English translations across a spectrum from highly literal to outright corrupt: the YLT, NASB, LSB, ESV, NIV, New Living, and then the Message, the New World Translation, the Passion Translation, and several others that distort the text to serve a theological agenda.God had a purpose in giving His Word, Rich argues, and that same providence extends to its transmission and translation into every language. ★ Support this podcast ★

TA continues our Year of the Word series by walking us through Ezekiel 37 and the vision of the valley of dry bones. These bones coming to life show that God brings the spiritually dead back to life through his Spirit. This prophecy points to Israel's restoration, the outpouring of the Spirit at Pentecost, and the new life believers receive in Christ today.

In Week 5 of our Made New series, we dove into Ephesians 4:17–32 with a hard but freeing truth: you can't live in freedom while still wearing what you were saved from. Recovery isn't just about letting go of the old—it's about fully embracing the new life Jesus offers. We explored what it means to take off old patterns like bitterness, lust, deception, and shame, and instead put on truth, righteousness, forgiveness, and love. This transformation isn't a one-time moment—it's a daily decision to walk in the identity Christ gave us. God didn't set us free so we could stay stuck. He set us free so we could finally live. The old doesn't fit you anymore—so take it off, and walk boldly into the new you.
A new affordable housing solution has just been completed. The Living House, designed by RTA Studio, takes just six weeks to build, costing only $333 thousand. It costs $253,000 less than the Government's average Kainga Ora build, and Architect Rich Naish told Mike Hosking they got frustrated by the failure of successive governments to build truly affordable housing. He says they've designed it to be scalable, optimising it down to the cheapest and simplest build so it can be repeated by individuals or organisations. Pastor Jeremy | BFBC-Glendive | Sunday Eph 2 - In a position to win ● You used to be: dead in trespasses, walking the way the world walks, ruled by the lust of your flesh & mind, children of wrath, without Christ, aliens, strangers, hopeless, without God, far off, separated, strangers, foreigners, against God ● You are now: Alive, loved, together, raised up, seated, saved, His workmanship, near, at peace with God, new, reconciled, have access to God, citizens, members of the household of God, a dwelling place for God Col 2:11-15 - Free to Win 1. He has made us alive together with Him. 2. He has forgiven us of our sins, set us free from the captivity of sin, and Jude says it this way that God is able to keep us from stumbling. 3. New Living says it this way “He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross.” 4. He has disarmed principalities and powers. You might say it this way “No weapon formed against you shall prosper” or maybe you like the way 1] Psalms 91 says it “no evil will befall you nor shall any plague come near your dwelling, for the Lord has given His angels charge over me and they keep me in all my ways” Ability to Win Ez. 36:26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. 27 I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them. 1. John 14, 15, &16 The Helper 2. 1 Cor 2 The Mind of Christ 3. Romana 8 God's in YOU!!! Purposed to Win Mark 16:15 And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. 17 And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; 18 they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.” Empowered to Win Luke 10:19 Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. ● Authority (empowerment): power that's been given to someone to do something with. ● Interesting that a serpent attacks with their heads, and scorpions attack with their tails. ● Whether you see it coming or not, God has still given us power to overcome. We Have the Coms to Win 1. Rom 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. 2. John 15:15 No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you.

Histories of North Korea typically focus on one man — Kim Il Sung — and one narrative — his grand rise to absolute power. Andre Schmid's new book, North Korea's Mundane Revolution: Socialist Living and the Rise of Kim Il Sung, 1953-1965 (University of California Press, 2024), tells a much more complex and richly textured story. Moving away from the focus on Kim Il Sung, Schmid looks at how the Korean population participated in party-state projects to create “New Living”: a quest for a better life, realized through socialism. Each part of North Korea's Mundane Revolution focuses on a question that was central to a different aspect of New Living: How to self-improve? How to build more efficiently? How to make a happy family home? How to consume properly? In exploring these questions, Schmid looks at a wide range of overlooked sources, especially North Korean magazines and journals, complete with tongue-in-cheek cartoons and photographs. Wonderfully nuanced, empirically rich, and utterly compelling, this book not only sheds light on the origins of North Korea's durability, but it does so through a fascinating history of unhappy housewives and prefabricated apartments. North Korea's Mundane Revolution is sure to appeal to those interested in Korean history and global histories of gender, socialist revolution, and print culture, as well as anyone who has ever wondered "How do you do North Korean history?"
