Spinning Out (another music podcast) We talk to artists about their favorite albums and go on wild tangents. Stacey Castor: Daughter, mother, wife, widow, wife.....widow? Stacey had a good life married to her husband, Michael Wallace. until Michael died at 38 of a heart attack due to his bad heart and substance abuse issues, according to Stacey. She finds love, again, in David Castor, 5 years after burying Michael, tragedy strikes again in the form of David committing suicide and poor Stacey is left alone again. it was truly a horrible, tragic situation, but there's one person that isn't buying it. Stacey Castor seemed to be in a panic when she called the police to report that her husband, David Castor, didn't make it into work. She told them he'd been feeling depressed, and was concerned it was suicide. Police went to the Castor home and discovered David's body on his bed, dead from antifreeze poisoning. Based on Stacey's comments, they were primed to label it a suicide and call it a day. But one detective wasn't so sure, especially when he learned Stacey's first husband was also dead... This episode features our pal, Jonny Disaster, from "Hidden Tracks" alumni Cry Havoc! Unsurprisingly, they are the Hidden Track on this episode, with their classic song, "Fuck You! Just Die," from their classic album, "...And Let Slip the Dogs of War." On this episode, we give a brief history of the band, The Misfits, in its many incarnations: from humble origins on 4/25/77 at the original CBGB, to a reunion that everyone said was impossible. We also talk about each of the band members and their prior and subsequent projects. For instance, singer, Glenn Danzig, would later be in Samhain and Danzig. He went on to direct the baffling Verotika, based on his own comicbook series of the same name. Jerry Only and his real life brother, Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankenstein, would later reform the band with Michale Graves and Dr. C.H.U.D., even wrestling alongside Vampiro and ICP in WCW. We do a song-by-song breakdown of the album, which clocks in at a brisk 24:19. In classic Slashers fashion, we also detail the source material for the songs, mostly film classics. The songs include: 20 Eyes, I Turned into a Martian, All Hell Breaks Loose, Vampira, Nike-A-Go-Go, Hate Breeders, Mommy, Can I Go Out and Kill Tonight?, Night of the Living Dead, Skulls, Violent World, Devils Whorehouse, Astro Zombies, and Braineaters. FeedBack w. Wes Nyle. EP26. Lambchop. 09.10.12Many credit the early nineties as the dawn of indie music. And at the helm of this movement, even if by accident, was Lambchop. A group fronted by Nashville native Kurt Wagner. One that started distributing self-recorded tapes in nineteen-ninety, and is now titled as one of the most original country bands around. You won’t find Lambchop touring much, simply because Wagner’s supporting cast is constantly changing, and even now when on the road, Kurt admits live shows are an interpretation of the current album. Albums that always try to carry a concept; a feat that Wagner admits is getting more drawn out as he moves into his late fifties. Through the years the band has dawned many names, albums, members and even genres. The lineup of each record is impossible for me to comprehend as the list of Kurt’s companions in Nashville continues to expand. And with elements of Soul, Jazz, Lounge, and Country Western, mashed with nonobjective lyrics, even the music snobs settled on defining this eclectic sound as simply Alt-Country. This year Kurt celebrates the release of his 11th studio album Mr. M an album that was recorded with his longtime friend and famous Nashville producer Mark Nevers, and is highlighted with help from Crotney Tidwell, his partner in crime from his folk duet KORT, that coverd 50’s and 60’s country classics from Chart Records.
