Writer and poet Vesna Cvjeticanin migrated to Australia from Serbia 35 years ago. Her book, An Unexpected Life, shares the inspiring journey of twelve migrant women who left their homelands as adults to start a new life in Australia. These women had to come to terms with life in a new language and for some of them a completely new profession. Vesna shares stories of their resilience, determination and courage as they overcame many challenges and personal struggles. Piše Tonja Jelen, bere Maja Moll. Roman Obraz Vesne Lemaić je zaveza tistemu, česar se je avtorica lotila že v prejšnjih romanesknih in kratkoproznih delih. Obravnavanje obrobij družbe se v tem delu pokaže tudi kot izrinjenost znotraj margine. Obraz se razkriva počasi. V romanu se obraz edine preživele v prometni nesreči razkriva skozi osebne, notranje stiske in pritiske drugih, za katere je mislila, da so njena skupnost. Tudi skvot ima svoja pravila in skorajda hierarhijo. Družbena lestvica je namreč pomembna povsod, kot pravi George Orwell v romanu Na robu in na dnu v Parizu in Londonu. Vesna Lemaić nas postavi v Ljubljano, kjer se je v zapuščeni tovarni treba znajti po svoje. Da bi zakrpali streho, si umislijo Titovo sobo, ki je vaba za turiste. Soba je bila že motiv Popularnih zgodb, a tokrat pomeni predvsem ujetost in strašljivost. Je ena izmed ključnih zank romana in prav zaradi nje romaneskna zgodba razkrije kompleksnost različnih oseb. Najbolj ranljiva je protagonistka Bruna, ki je zaradi smrti bližnjih polna notranje bolečine. Pisateljica je pri njej pozorna na stiske, o katerih intenzivno pripoveduje natakarici Nadi, ki na zadnji dan službe zaradi zaprtja lokala časti in prisluhne glavni junakinji, ki se bojuje s svojimi demoni. Bruno spodbuja in ji daje moč. Metaforičnost obraza je večplastna in opozarja na našo obsedenost z zunanjim videzom. Jezikovni in miselni presežki so najbolj opazni v primerih, ko se Bruna najbolj razkriva: »Njen obraz je bil pretrgan. Njen svet je bil prerezan,« piše. Poetični odstavki se prepletajo z Župančičevimi Mehurčki, usidranimi v Brunino podzavest. Ta skače na plan v različnih trenutkih, tudi najbolj groznih. Poudarjen in problematiziran je na primer nenehen boj za obstoj s spolnostjo. Prav vsak, vsaka si želi telesnosti in ljubezni, avtorica pa nas povabi k temeljnemu razmisleku, kako jo uresničiti. In tu je kljub srhu in bolečini spet eden izmed vrhuncev romana. Bolečina zaradi spolnosti je pri geju Janiju ali pri Bruni neznosna in v obeh primerih se prepričljivo stopnjuje proti razkroju osebnosti. Zanimive so tudi fantastične prvine romana, ki so seveda zgolj navidezne. Vesna Lemaić po tiho dodaja elemente čarovništva – likinje so v tem delu glasnice pravičnosti. Kaj še lahko naredi ženska, ki jo označijo za drugačno ali ki zboli? Boji in bolečina se vračajo na telesni in psihični ravni, za vse pa vedno obstajata racionalna in duhovna razlaga. Na koncu se vse skupaj prepričljivo sestavi v celotno zgodbo. Ta prikliče tudi resnične dogodke ob rušenju znane ljubljanske zapuščene tovarne, ki je že dolgo dajala zatočišče marsikomu. Pisateljica je pozorna na vse – na odvisnike, alternativne umetnike, umetnice, zapuščene. A tudi med njih se zarežejo nestrinjanje in zavrnitve. Na koncu zmagajo drugi. Roman Vesne Lemaić pripoveduje o pasteh, ki se skrivajo v človeku in družbi. To je obraz, ki kaže na vso človekovo rabeljstvo do samega sebe, na samouničevanje in uničevanje drugih. Rešiti se je mogoče le z močno voljo in paziti, da se ne ujameš že na verzih naključnih popevk z radia. Skratka, presunljivo in precizno.

Pisateljica Vesna Lemaić piše kratke zgodbe in romane. Debitirala je leta 2008 s pripovedno zbirko Popularne zgodbe in z njo nemudoma opozorila bralke in bralce, da smo dobili dobro pisateljico. Za zbirko je dobila nagrado zlata ptica, pa nagrado za najboljši prvenec na Slovenskem knjižnem sejmu in Dnevnikovo fabulo, predvsem pa je že v prvenki pokazala, da ima razvit čut za portretiranje literarnih likov in da ne miži pred socialno tematiko. To velja tudi za njeno šesto knjigo, za roman z naslovom Obraz (objavljen pri Cankarjevi založbi). Naslov romana je na prvi pogled preprost, neambiciozen, vendar ga pisateljica s svojo pripovedjo več kot opraviči. Njena romaneskna junakinja, Bruna, ima brazgotinast obraz, ki morda že simbolizira njeno rastočo stisko. Kot študentka, ki vse manj študira in se vse težjo preživlja, najde svoje prenočišče v skvotu nekje v Ljubljani. Toda tudi tam ona in njeni znanci potrebujejo denar za popravilo strehe, ki neusmiljeno pušča. Pisateljica tako zastavi roman kot pripoved o osebni stiski in o socialni stiski mladih, nato pa pripoved presenetljivo zasuka v srhljivko: telesa osrednjih protagonistov pokažejo zobe, pa tudi soba, v kateri naj bi strašil pokojni predsednik Tito in tako prispeval k prenovi strehe, postaja vse bolj strašljiva. Mednarodna skupnost pozdravlja Hamasov odziv na ameriški mirovni predlog za Gazo. Palestinsko gibanje je namreč sporočilo, da je pripravljeno izpustiti vse talce, a šele takrat, ko bodo za to izpolnjeni pogoji na terenu. Da je to velik dan, se je na Hamasov odgovor odzval tudi ameriški predsednik Donald Trump, ki je pozval Izrael, naj nemudoma preneha bombardirati Gazo. V poletnem času se marsikateri odločajo za opravljanje študentskega dela. Ksenija Komljenović is a celebrated Serbian percussionist and professor. She was the first woman in Serbia to earn a doctorate in percussion, and she currently is the percussion department chair at the University of North Carolina. She won the International Percussion Competition in Luxembourg and she has performed across Europe, Asia and the U.S. including at Carnegie Hall. Koliko smo slične ne znam, različito gledamo na to“, uglas i sa osmehom odgovaraju na pitanje koliko vide sebe jedna u drugoj, dve umetnice, glumice, majka i ćerka, Vesna Čipčić i Anja Josifovski, gošće nove, praznične Mamazjanije, koje se u ovoj epizodi našeg podkasta osvrću na godine detinjstva, život u umetničkoj porodici, krivicu, žrtve, ali i ljubav i momente koji su ih nasmejali, toliko da su ih sa nama podelile i da ih nikada neće zaboraviti. Vedre i raspoložene, Vesna i Anja, unele su dodatno svetlo u naš studio, a najširi osmeh izmami im pominjanje Alekseja i Anđele, Anjine dece. „Ponekad dođem kod Anje, pogledam ih, i kažem ‚Jao Anja, pa ovo su tvoja deca‘, prosto ne mogu da verujem da mi je ćerka tako porasla“, priča setno Vesna. Kroz šalu prebacuje Anji, da mora malo da trenira strogoću, zbog sebe i svog zdravlja i sna. Ipak, Anja ne odustaje od svojih metoda. „Ne mogu Alekseja da ostavim da plače. Njega sam nosila na rukama i dok sam bila trudna i sve dok stomak nije porastao toliko da nisam mogla više. Ne mogu ja to tako, da dete plače, a ja da slušam i ne prilazim mu. Međutim sa Anđelom je drugačije, spustim je u krevetac i ona spava. Teško je, ali drugačije ne mogu, neispavana sam, umorna, a počela sam nedavno i da radim, pa nekako balansiram“, priča Anja. Vesna se nadovezuje, i kaže da je sa Anjom i njenim bratom bilo drugačije, da su mirno spavali, da nisu bili naporni ni kao tinejdžeri i da zato ne zna da li bi ikada mogla dovoljno da im zahvali za sve što su joj pružili i učinili od kako su se rodili. „Sad da moram sve ponovo, ništa ne bih menjala. Sve bih isto uradila, iako postoje ti momenti krivice, kad sam možda mogla da provodim malo više vremena sa decom dok su bili mali i kad sam dosta radila. Ipak, za razliku od mama koje rade od osam do četiri ili devet do pet, ja sam imala letnje raspuste, pa pauze od po par meseci u toku godine, da ne idem na posao, ili da samo odem uveče da odigram jednu predstavu, a svo ostalo vreme sam sa njima što je velika prednost“. Krivica je, međutim, Anju, kaže, mučila i pre nego što je zatrudnela, a sad posebno. „Uvek sam imala taj osećaj krivice, kao naše bake i žene na ovim prostorima, koje su toliko dugo osećale krivicu i brigu da je to postalo nešto pozitivno. Posebno kad sam rodila decu, to se pojačalo, jer kad imate dete imate i od sebe veća očekivanja“, kaže ona. I dodaje da je svim majkama teško, bez obzira kojim se poslom, bave i da su zato sve one nesumnjivo veliki – heroji. Iako žive u istoj kući, ali imaju različite ulaze, prve su komšinice, pa se ipak retko viđaju, tek u prolazu. Posebno im teško ide da se same druže i provedu neko vreme odvojene od ostalih članova porodice. „Bile smo nedavno na ručku, ali je i Anđela bila sa nama, tako da nismo bile potpuno same. Ne znam kad ćemo to ponoviti, teško je zaista odvojiti vreme, nažalost“, priznaju obe. Međutim, naglašavaju da će se potruditi da to promene, a jedan od koraka je, ističu, i zajedničko gostovanje u podkastu – Mamazjanija.

Where were you when you were 17? Vesna Milivojević was becoming a professional footballer for her hometown club, Western Sydney Wanderers.
