About Layla (From Yolanda Stewart)The importance of having a space for young women of color to inquire about sexuality and mental health is often a challenge – and nearly non-existent in some cases. For Tiffany Lloyd, this is among the reasons for creating the online big sister “Layla's Got You.”The multigenerational chatbot is a space for women of color who are seeking answers to personal questions and focuses on the premise of being a community made for women, by women. Layla embodies the essence of a trusted and knowledgeable friend. Since its inception six years ago, Laya's Got You has expanded to an on- and offline sisterhood, offering a wealth of knowledge on Black women's concerns, and organizes efforts to support issues Black women care about. Yet, the organization acknowledges it has a long way to go in order to continue making strides in young Black women's lives.Links:https://www.laylasgotyou.com/https://allynfoundation.org/staff/tiffany-lloyd/https://giffordfoundation.org/laylas-got-you/https://centralcurrent.org/laylas-got-you-the-online-chatbot-big-sister-friend-for-young-women-of-color/Layla's Got You: Developing a tailored contraception chatbot for Black and Hispanic young women - Erika Bonnevie, Tiffany D Lloyd, Sarah D Rosenberg, Kara Williams, Jaclyn Goldbarg, Joe Smyser, 2021 (sagepub.com)ERIC - EJ1297431 - "Layla's Got You": Developing a Tailored Contraception Chatbot for Black and Hispanic Young Women, Health Education Journal, 2021-JunSyracuse residents decide together how to spend $150K to fight lead poisoning (centralcurrent.org) Hosted on Acast. We have a tremendous podcast for you today! Phil Smith and Kara Williams join us for our second episode in our Next Generation Leader series. They help us understand "Filling in the Gap." We fill in the gap when we see a need and fill that need. As Kara says, "See a need and meet a need." Many see gaps to fill as "beneath them," so they move on and the need remains. Servant leaders love to fill in the gaps! Gaps can be simple like seeing a toilet that needs to be plunged or trash that needs to be picked up. More importantly, gaps can represent emotional needs in people's lives! Join us today as we explore being a Next Generation Leader. Click HERE to listen on Spotify! Recently I had the pleasure of hearing my new friend, Kara Williams, speak to a sweet group of local women I'm a part of. She came to talk to us about business and interior design. And, although we LOVED hearing from her, she mentioned something in her share that made me head straight for her afterwards. I'm learning to boldly ask those I'm feeling called to grab, "Would you be on my podcast?" I know there are people who need to hear about your story dealing with anxiety. Friends, anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness in the U.S., affecting 40 million adults in the United States age 18 and older, or 18.1% of the population every year. (according to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America). We all know someone or are someone who has a level of anxiety needs to be managed. In this episode, Kara shares with us her life-long struggle with anxiety and what tools she's been able to use to help not only address it, but actually give it space in her life and grace in the process. Today is an important episode. If you hear something that you think would help someone else, please share it. If you think you need help with this, please make sure you reach out to someone. There is so much help out there and, as we share today, shining a light and talking about it is a great place to start. Kara is an interior designer and the brand ambassador for Cottages & Bungalows magazine. She has found joy in fixing up the 1901 farmhouse style home with her husband and 2 Great Danes. The Amateur Traveler talks to Kara Williams of TheVacationGals.com about Aspen, Colorado. Like so many locals who live in that area of Colorado, Kara came for the winters but stayed for the summers. She tells us about this historic silver-mining town that is better known as a winter playground for the wealthy now than for its mining past. Whether you are skiing, hiking or fly fishing it has a wealth of outdoor activities. It offers great, if not always inexpensive, food and a wealth of artistic events set in a gorgeous mountain valley. Kara describes side trips to the Ghost towns of Ashcroft and Independence, to the continental divide at Independence Pass and to the caves at The Grottos. She also tells you whether the Aspen Crud is something you want to get. Aspen also hosts festivals as diverse as the Aspen Institute, Jazz Aspen Snowmass, the Aspen Music Festival and School and Aspen Summer Words.
