Television, it turns out, is massive. When we set out to choose ten television shows that we found inspiring for Changeling, we had no idea that there were so many options we'd end up with, even considering the criteria we set for ourselves. (We looked at shows we had seen ourselves, and ideally ones that weren't already called out as inspiration in the books.) And that was before listeners started suggesting a bunch more. Nevertheless, we feel pretty happy with our picks; these are entries which we are fond of on their own, but also find well-suited for consideration through the lens of the game. Herewith some of their trailers/theme songs/selected scenes in chronological order: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (1993–1999) random scene from the pilot, "Emissary", that gives some characterization and talks about the Trill: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=McyJA93MGhU Gargoyles (1994–1997) opening: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ygrEVnrg3Ic Recess: (1997–1999) opening: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zObiglKZKZc The 10th Kingdom (2000) trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gbrXWWYopq8 Carnivàle (2003–2005) Emmy-winning opening: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ouTCtwNIYaQ Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends (2004–2009) teaser: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=djNHGRkg2R4 Lost Girl (2010–2015) trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W057R9MNRw4 Adventure Time: (2010–2018) opening: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kMDaAcfCYow The Almighty Johnsons (2011–2013) trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bd80D347iSI Stranger Things (2016–) trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b9EkMc79ZSU We hope that if you're in the market for some inspirational material of this variety, one or more of these will help up churn up the Glamour of game planning. Recipe for a riotous sixties romp? Take two aging thespians, mix in a dozen dependable character actors, add three or four comic geniuses to bind it all together and season with a generous pinch of psychedelic Victoriana. Top it off with a rising young star and the director's wife and the result is a complex confection full of surprises which the whole family can enjoy! Joining Tyler this week is writer, podcaster and occasional broadcaster Tim Worthington to talk about a film which he (rightly) argues is unfairly underappreciated: Bryan Forbes' 1966 ensemble comedy The Wrong Box. It qualifies for this podcast owing to a film-stealing turn by Peter Sellers as Doctor Pratt, but he is only one of many delights - it also features Peter Cook & Dudley Moore as a pair of hissable villains, Wilfrid Lawson as a butler on the verge of collapse, Michael Caine as the dashing, if naive, romantic lead, Tony Hancock as a rheumy-eyed troubled 'tec and Ralph Richardson as an increasingly erratic epistemophilic uncle! Also in 'blink-and-you'll-miss-'em' terms, Valentine Dyall, John Junkin, Leonard Rossiter and Graham Stark! (Graham Stark appears by kind permission of Mr Sellers). And, of course, the Lovely Nanette Newman as Miss Julia Finsbury. It's a fun, rambling conversation which, like the film itself, takes a lot of surprising turns! Episode 41 : Making Barry Lyndon with Gay Hamilton Hello there rubes, ruffians, and rapscallions, we’ve got another episode of Kubrick’s Universe for you, dedicated to an appreciation of Stanley’s hauntingly gorgeous oil painting of a film, Barry Lyndon. By which I mean we’ve had the pleasure of chatting with Nora Brady herself, the wonderful Scottish actress, Gay Hamilton.  In this episode, you’ll hear Gay chat with us about how a young Scottish girl got the role through, in no small part, nailing a perfect Irish accent, meeting with Stanley Kubrick for the first time, then working with him on this seminal piece of art, as well as acting alongside Ryan O’Neal.  You’ll also hear Gay regale us with stories of shooting the iconic dance scene with Leonard Rossiter, adapting to the fine art of acting in Oscar award-winning costume designer Milena Canonero’s dresses, and Gay’s love for the game of Frisbee.  But you’ll also be delighted to hear Gay tell us about Stanley the practical joker, as well as reads from her own personal diary which she kept on set during the filming of Barry Lyndon, and ultimately, catching up with what it meant for her to be part of Kubrick’s legacy.  So hang out with us for a bit as we leapfrog back through time from the present to the mid 1970s, to the 1700s… in Kubrick’s Universe.  So it is with great pleasure that we present to you an interview from the 16th March 2020 with Gay Hamilton and Kubrick’s Universe host Mr. Jason Furlong. "At my signal, unleash hell" The keyword this week is EPIC as we watch Ridley Scott's Gladiator, and we quickly discover that our very own Rachael actually worked on this movie!  She lets us in on the experience of making a wig for the modest and self-effacing Russell Crowe and decries the lack of credit given to wig makers in movies.  Paul has been working on his best Maximus Decimus Meridius impression, eulogising Oliver Reed and spotting "The Voice of Iggle Piggle", and the team are mystified at Russell Crowe's Oscar win and come to the conclusion he won it mainly for "squinting a bit". And we hear about a cancelled sequel which would have featured a time travelling Maximus in Vietnam – which Paul swears he hasn't made up. Meanwhile, Andy's verdict:  "It was good". Elsewhere in a packed show, Rachael is inspired by one of the famous improvised lines in Gladiator to look at some more unplanned moments in movies, including Pretty Woman, Good Will Hunting and Harry Potter. And Andy is surprised by the appearance of UK comedian Omid Djalili in Gladiator and seeks out some more unexpected appearances of UK television stars in big Hollywood movies, including Leonard Rossiter and Keith Chegwin! This week's scale:  Thumbs Up or Thumbs Down

The grandmaster of wonky techno sees in the festive season by recording an exclusive mix for Spannered, chock-full of spazzed-out dance music and questionable humour. The set, recorded in a north London cheese factory in honour of the late, great Leonard Rossiter (we shit you not), is probably now the stupidest radio set on the entire site — an accolade we're sure Jerome will be pleased with.   Comes complete with special edition hand-scrawled tracklisting!     Check out Jerome's new radio show on uncut.fm, every Wednesday starting 25/02/09!
