"Regardless, we weren't in there long... A couple of nights, as best we could tell, before we were dragged out down Mawk's Mantle. That leaves us back where we started, I guess - the flickering dawn, the stage, the bismuth nooses, that bloody heron. Funny what your mind notices in the direst moments." ~~~ Our ritual fades, our story ends. Behind the fallen arras, twenty years of asking and wondering. Nilkat and Belka stare into the cooling fire. They trace the knot and growth of exhausted timber, with only ash and ember to shape the phantoms of the trees that could have been. ~~~ A finale, then. We play the HISTORY IS GONE BUT WE REMEMBER by Ben Roswell as we let ourselves drift from our tale of Ginnels and Swifts, the bastard nim Shifs and the defiant Maybes. We study the city from a distance, imagine the stories that could have been, those loose ends ready to be woven into our greater tapestry. ~~~ Episode title from Camp Adventure by Delta Sleep ~~~ Follow the show on twitter @flimsyrituals Find our website at flimsyrituals.com Chat to us on Discord ~~~ Hosted by Adam Dixon. Just an incredible amount of energy talking with Ralph about the return of Mark Ingram. We talk about the potential contribution of Mark early on and when he breaks Deuce's Record. Preview the Bucs game. Predict game by game predictions in Win/Lose/IDK. Spoiler alert Saints are still good. Hall of Fame QB departs and we ARE STILL GOOD! So much fun! 2021 is already better than 2020 and we are in week 8!

They were blades singing to be used, even if by a tyrant’s hand. They came with their Bismuth nooses and gave Mawk’s Mantle its name.” ~~~ Embrace bleeds. The nim Shifs are ascendant, their political rivals defeated. The tide was turning on the revolution. But then comes Winter’s Lodge, breaking through the night and bringing the dawn. It’s not only the nim Shifs that feel blessed by the arrival of the sun. In the new day, the Jubilant Maybe make their plans. It’s time to strike hard. ~~ PEOPLE ~~ Altara nim Shif: Scion of the nim Shif family and their trusted enforcer. Crik Rise: Leader of the Flint Street Knappers. Once a friend of Ezra and Nilkat. Bordered by the Castings, the Tear and the headquarters of the Tenders of the Dawn’s Embers. Calvary: The most densely packed warded, full of too-small houses and windmill factories. There are rumours you can disappear into the Cut if you take the wrong turn. Hinter: At the tip of Embrace’s tail. A mixing ground of working class residents and upper-class visitors from neighbouring Acreage, come to watch races at its stadium. Winter’s Lodge: A place pulled out from the cut. These episodes were done as research I did for a Forbes.com article on the Six Skills All Indie Musicians Need Today. Our guest today is Mawk Phoenix from episode 131. We discuss my various suppositions about the important elements an indie musician must master these days. I share my experience recording drums at home, which was fun to discuss with Mawk given his experience in production and sound engineering. Mawk's long career gives him a unique perspective on the skills indie musicians need today. Episode Highlights We start by talking about how artists need to be entrepreneurs (05:43) and go on to discuss: (08:40) Building a community versus followers (10:15) Re-inventing how we perform (17:40) Recording at home and digital distribution (22:44) Building a niche audience Quotable The path is not to getting a deal anymore. C/W hanging/public execution, 0'00 to 3'34, body horror (eyes) “And then, there’s the end. The whole lot of us rounded up and stood on that platform on Mawk’s Mantle. A great crowd of people before us, no cover from that boiling sun. I remember the quiet most. Looking into all those faces and being met with nothing. Everything waited.” ~~~ Under the cover of darkness, a wagon rolls its way through the streets of the People’s Ward of Atrium. Four people escort it, moonlight glinting off armour hidden under their coats. They are Jackals, they do not belong here. The wagon they move carries a weapon, something powerful enough to shake the labyrinthine foundations of Embrace. This is the first of our episodes playing Blades in the Dark, a game about daring scoundrels by John Harper. We meet our crew of radicals as they undertake their most dangerous score yet. If you’re interested in Embrace - our season about a revolution in a city built on the corpses of two gods - and want to jump straight into the action, this is the episode to start with. We did some worldbuilding in episodes 1-3 and start our main campaign here. If you don’t know what Embrace is or are new to the show entirely, we spend some time at the start of this episode briefly going over the core concepts of our world, Ryne. We’ve designed this to be a good place to start listening to These Flimsy Rituals. ~~ PEOPLE ~~ Nilkat: A former factory mechanic, turned revolutionary. He’s a member of the Ginnels and our story’s narrator. ~~ FACTIONS ~~ Umbral Provenders: A legitimised organisation of smugglers, who use the cut to smuggle contraband into and out of the city. Based in Atrium, they use criminality to enforce their hold there. Jackals: More formally known as the Tenders of the Dawn’s Embers, the Jackals are an organisation of remnant hunters guided by strange divination. ~~ PLACES ~~ Embrace: An island city, built on the corpses of the remnant’s Caerdroia and Rodella. It serves as one of the only crossing points of the river Trill. People’s Ward of Atrium: An old neighbourhood near the docks, once home to wholesale markets and cafes. It has declared itself its own ward, erecting barricades to keep the city’s officials out. ~~~ Episode title from Onsind’s Snitches Get Stitches ~~~ Follow the show on twitter @flimsyrituals Find our website at flimsyrituals.com Chat to us on Discord ~~~ Hosted by Adam Dixon. Shirtless Tom shares a story from his shirtless youth about a time at Catholic School. Hey MAF is coming to town tonight for his homecoming 2: Electric Boogaloo. Anyway Ray Fitipaldo joins the show to break down Steelers and Bengals this weekend. Getting all sportsy sportsy and then it's time for the great unsponsored football segment filled with knowledge and fun brought to you by to be determined.

The return of the cast sees Levi, Mawk, Nando and Stanbert play a game of guess the random nsfw subreddit. They then review the year in film, tv and video games, and look forward at a selection from this year's sundance film festival.
Levi, Mawk, Nando and Stan are in to reflect on how their lives have changed since the last episode. They first reflect about movies this year that have been ok, but worthless, before moving on to their new video game obsession and Levi's new phone(guess what he wants to do to it). (we apologize for the small whirring noise in the background, use your ADD for good and ignore it)

Back from the longest of hiatuses, Levi, Foz, Mawk, and new guest Adam Frank start season 2 off with a relative bang, conversing on what they've been through since season 1. After plenty of ramblings about bestiality, porn, and incest, Levi does his best to be as racist as possible.
Back from their vacation to meet up with Skillington on the Islands Cayman, the boys talk about mawking, going bental, nandoing and fozzing to all sorts of things, whilst also laying down some skill. They discuss the women's world cup and the finale to the Harry Potter franchise, and the key flaw to the series involving Ginny Weasley. They wrap it up with some stories and tease more to come soon.
Fresh off flipping his Jeep in a car wreck, Levi is joined by the original crew along with long time listener and almost guest Brett, calling in from Vancouver. The gang talk about the wreck, air bud, more strange sex, porn, the southern ocean, Fozzie being called out at a wedding reception, and more.
After dispelling any notion that they will continue to take excessive breaks, the boys get into a now repeating segment where they reflect on shows they watch on TLC like channels. Sister Wives is discussed, as is more strange sex. They then get into movie talk, with reflections on the earlier Fast and Furious movies, as well as a general review of X-Men: First Class. Levi tangents into his recent viewing of the Dorian Gray movie, and the scenes and questions within. AFterwards they discuss which celebrity relationship they'd like to fail the most, and the legality of sexy child nonporn.
Featuring the return of Fozzie to the studio, the boys talk about and then listen to the new segment, "Waka Waka Talk." After much discussion about dinosaurs and which races they correlate to, they go into story telling mode for much of the episode. Mawk explains the horror that he saw on TLC's "Strange Sex", and Levi sums up the difficulty a friend has in teaching at a low income lower school. Questionable amounts of racism ensue.
After the longest break since the inception of ISE, Levi, Mawk and their mini-producer Nando join up live in studio for the first time since the second episode. In this installment, expect a review of the mega-hit Fast Five, as well as the pilot episode of Game of Thrones. The boys swoon at length for the Rock and his ungodly beads of perspiration. They then get into 90's pop culture, including their own experiences with power rangers and rugrats. Before they're done, the gang goes over which ESPN anchors they approve of, and which they'd wish would go into the obscurity that follows a heinous domestic violence charge. Levi also attempts to decipher the psychological implications of what could be Mawk's craziest dream yet.
After a historic week in American history, Mawk, Nando and Levi join up to mention the comeuppance of a horrible d-bag only in passing, as Levi spends more time sharing stories of what or who has angered or made him feel inadequate lately. Nando adds fuel to Levi's horror-fire with a story about how once girls go black, they think they'll never go back. The boys talk New Orleans sports around the NBA playoffs and NFL draft, and discuss the importance of NBA coaches.
Skillington joins Levi in studio after an almost all in person episode was recorded earlier in the week. The show kicks off with the brand new listener-submitted theme song to the show. After celebrating this achievement, the boys delve into handyman tales and questions about racism. Levi and Skillington relive some memories from their past, and Levi shares stories from his life volunteering as a medical student.
Fozzie joins Levi, Mawk and Nando again as they talk mostly about porn and what Fozzie's life has been like since his world has been opened up to it last episode. Levi asks about why girls dress sluttily on purpose, before ranting uneventfully about his friends on facebook. They finish with some unorthodox coverage of the Masters while forgetting to mention Jason Day's hot young wife.
After a short vacation which both Levi and Mawk spent snowboarding in Colorado, they compare their experiences with the oft-debated action sport. They are joined on the podcast by the always outspoken Fernando, as well as a new voice, longtime podcast contributor Hathaway. Levi spends a long time complaining about air travel, followed by the gang exploring what their thoughts and actions would be if one of their seemingly straight friends came out of the homo-proverbial closet.
The boys take a second to argue why nipple color should be used to classify race before Levi reveals who he thinks is the perfect pop-culture corollary to what Charlie Sheen is going through right now. They delve into two of Mawk's recent dreams before reviewing the underrated demonic-child thriller Orphan.
Levi and Mawk are once again joined by Fernando to talk about the Superbowl, the Oscars, and answers emails about which super powers we'd want and what we think of Little Miss Lohan going to jail. Tune in to also hear Mawk's and Fernando's crazy dreams, and Levi's Freuidian analysis of their homo-erotic tendencies.
We stray for a second from the animal world to talk about the sexual lives of wizards, along with a best films of the decade roundup and playoff preview. Hilarity might ensue, we're not sure.
