A performance crossover might not be everyone's can of Red Bull. Some might suggest a performance CUV is akin to the world's tallest midget, but this week co-host Chris Teague took the wheel of the hot-to-trot AMG GLC 43 in the teeth of yet another frigid Maine winter, and he's ready to report on his finding in this edition on of America on the Road. Meanwhile, the figurative elephant in the room is the arrival of 47th President Donald Trump and his sweeping executive orders that include a radical — and some might add welcome — change in America's automotive emissions and fuel economy regulations. With the stroke of a Sharpie, the once-and-current President rescinded rules that essentially forced carmakers to build and, more importantly, sell electric vehicles. The result of this and the new Administration's accompanying energy policy promise to significantly change how the auto industry operates and — more importantly — what you'll be able to buy. We'll have the details. We'll also have an exclusive interview with Dodge Brand CEO Matt McAlrear, just as his brand is introducing its first battery-electric vehicle, the 2024 Dodge Charger Daytona. Host Jack Nerad recently talked with McAlear at length about the future of the beloved Dodge brand, and we'll have that discussion for you. Jack Nerad's road test this week examines the Mazda CX-70 PHEV, its latest crossover SUV entrant, this one in plug-in hybrid form. The vehicle bears striking similarities to the well-regarded Mazda CX-90, and Nerad will break down the pluses and minuses in his report. In the news, Chevrolet has announced a recall of its recently launched Equinox EV, and we'll have the details on that. The widespread fires near Los Angeles have had a devastating effect on the collector car hobby, too. We'll tell you all about that, too, soon. Listener Question of the Week "How can I tell if my car needs a new battery or just a charge?" The Mercedes-AMG Lineup might best be known for its high-horsepower, snarling V8-powered 63 line of high-performance variants. Though, there's more to the AMG portfolio than just the V8 machines. The Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 might not have the same road presence as its more powerful 63 variants, but offers more than enough oomph to have some fun behind the wheel of a crossover. With a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 making 385 hp, the GLC 43 is more than powerful enough to remind you why you sprung for the AMG badge. The GLC 43 also sports a revised suspension over the standard ‘Benz-badged GLC. Mated to the 3.0-liter V6 is a nine-speed automatic transmission that transfers power to all four wheels. On this episode of Quick Spin, Patrick Carone hops behind the wheel of this 2021 Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 to put it through its paces. Carone takes you on a guided tour of the GLC 43 and shows off its features before taking you along for a live drive review. Adding to those segments, Carone expands on his thoughts with host Wesley Wren. The pair talk about where the GLC 43 sits in the Mercedes lineup, and discuss if springing for the extra power is worth it over the standard GLC 300. Closing the show, the pair talk about what makes this GLC 43 special.
Javier, Karl and Lauren ask “how many pure electric brands do we need”, before discussing the new Volvo V60, Lexus LC 500 and Mercedes-AMG GLC 43. They close with a look at increasing hurdles when getting older performance cars to pass California's emissions test.

Personality goes a long way, which is what Sami discovers when comparing two luxury performance SUVs - the 2020 Porsche Macan Turbo and the 2020 Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 - that on paper seem a lot closer than they are in reality. Benjamin is completely befuddled by the 2020 Lexus GX 460, an off-road SUV that time forgot, wrapped in a luxury package that time also forget. Also on deck is talk about the Kia Stinger, the Bollinger van, and automotive audiobook recommendations.
We have a pair of McLarens in the studio; Jerry's in the 2020 720S Spider and Adi has the 600LT, absolutely insane machines. We discuss them in depth, along with the new BMW M8 Gran Coupe Competition. We're also comparing two very sensible and fuel efficient family crossovers, the 503-horse Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 S, and the Porsche Macan Turbo.

How far has the Porsche Cayenne fallen behind the rest of the luxury people mover pack? Sami discusses his disappointment with what was once a class leader after driving the 2019 model. Benjamin, on the other hand, has a surprisingly positive encounter with the 2019 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio after failing to be impressed by the standard, non-performance model. He compares it back-to-back against the 2019 Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 SUV, which may be one of the last V8-powered muscle trucks from the German brand.

Mercedes-Benz takes off the gloves in the compact SUV segment and pummels BMW and Audi with the new 2018 Mercedes-AMG GLC 63, a 500 horsepower family hauler that has no equal in its class, and Sami has the inside story on what it's like to drive it. Benjamin spends a week with the Nissan 370Z, a car that's been largely unchanged since 2009, and as a result finds itself out of step with the rest of the performance universe. Finally, leaked details about the upcoming Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 are debated, as the pair try to figure out how the ZR1 and the upcoming mid-engine Corvette can play nice together in a crowded Chevrolet showroom. Also, lots of jokes.
