The Acura ZDX Type S is the brand's most powerful SUV, offering a performance-tuned dual-motor AWD powertrain with an estimated 500 horsepower. But how will it contend with late fall in the great state of Maine? Co-host Chris Teague found out this week, and he'll share his findings in this episode. Priced from around $70,000, the ZDX Type S features height-adjustable air suspension, adaptive dampers, and Brembo brakes. Its muscular stance is enhanced by 22-inch wheels and available high-performance summer tires. But summer tires weren't especially appropriate as Maine threw a wintery mix of snow and sleet at Teague as he drove Acura's new battery-electric SUV built by General Motors. In fact, it includes Acura's Hands Free Cruise (GM SuperCruise) and Automatic Parking Assist technologies alongside the AcuraWatch 360+ safety suite. How did the ZDX fare in Maine's difficult conditions? Teague will have a full report. In our other road test this week, host Jack Nerad reveled in his time behind the wheel of the Genesis G70 sports sedan. The test model was the top-end G70 AWD 3.3T Sport Prestige trim that delivers a blend of luxury, performance, and cutting-edge technology at a surprisingly reasonable price of $53,350, including a $1,250 destination charge. Powered by a robust 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6 engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive, the sedan boasts Brembo brakes and an electronically controlled suspension, making it feel delightfully agile. The Sport Prestige package enhances the sleek sedan's appeal with Nappa leather seating, heated rear seats and steering wheel, a head-up display, a surround-view monitor, and a power trunk lid. Standard features include forward collision avoidance and blind-spot monitoring, a 10.25-inch multimedia display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a premium 15-speaker Lexicon audio system, and conveniences like heated and ventilated front seats, dual-zone climate control, and wireless charging. How much did Nerad love it? He'll tell you in this report. This week, Volkswagen and Rivian entered into a strategic partnership, and we'll tell you what that could mean for each brand. For one of them, it could mean survival in the increasingly hostile EV landscape. Honda has pulled the wraps off the new 2026 Passport SUV, and it is the most rugged Honda we've seen yet. The TrailSport version boasts an off-road suspension, all-terrain tires, increased ground clearance, and steel skid plates. And for those who are rock crawling or dodging tree stumps, the TrailSport Elite offers the TrailWatch camera system, assiting drivers in seeing what they should be missing. We'll give you more details and our reactions. Waymo is expanding its robotaxi effort in Los Angeles while Tesla is facing regulatory hurdles in its own robotaxi initiative. We'll have more on that as self-driving technology heats up. While we're speaking of technology, one prominent player suggests automakers say goodbye to the cloud and embrace onboard computing and tech. We'll have more on that fascinating development. Our guest this week is equally fascinating. Srini Rajagopalan is head of OEM Customer Success at J.D.Power and an expert in the electric vehicle space. He will talk about the things carmakers must do to promote more sales of electric vehicles, and we're certain you'll enjoy hearing what he has to say. So we have a lot of show for you this week. Thanks for joining us, and don't forget to look for new content on our YouTube and Rumble channels. Please subscribe. If you do we'll like you forever. Genesis rolled out its G70 sedan onto the road all the way back in 2017, for the 2018 model year. While the G90 helped kick the Genesis brand off, the G70's launch was a big part of the brand's expansion down market. This smaller sedan fights with the likes of luxury heavyweights like the BMW 3-Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, and more. This Genesis also shared a platform with Kia's Stinger, which went out of production after 2023. Genesis gave the G70 a substantial styling update in 2022 to bring it in line with the rest of the Genesis portfolio, but also added a more powerful 2.5-liter turbocharged I4 as the base powertrain, which replaces the outgoing 2.0-liter mill. On this episode of Quick Spin, host Wesley Wren hops behind the wheel of the 2024 Genesis G70 and puts it through its paces. Wren guides you around the G70 highlights some of his favorite features, and explains what this Genesis sedan feels like in the real world. Later in the show, Wren takes you along for a live drive review. Joining these segments, Autoweek's Patrick Carone joins the show to discuss his experiences with the G70, the competitive set, and more. Closing the show, the pair break down what makes the G70 special.

The Unnamed Automotive Podcast dives into one of our hosts favorite subjects: sport sedans, as Sami gets excited to discuss Benjamins review of the 2024 Genesis G70. Now available with a turbo 2.5L four-cylinder engine, the Genesis seems to be getting better in some important ways, but Benjamin seems a bit conflicted about where this kind of sport sedan sits in the grand scheme of things. Is it as much fun as a similarly priced hot hatch? Is it as luxurious or high tech as other premium vehicles? Is it worth it? Hear the whole conversation to find out! Then the guys answer some listener questions about certified pre-owned luxury cars, why someone would go for one, and which one will fit the bill, before discussing the Belltown Hellcat Thanks for listening! We can't wait to do it all again next week!
Jill is out this week driving electric Chevys. In her place are both Sons of Speed, Paul Herrold and Brendan Appel. The conversation opened with Tom noting Jill's dismay regarding Chevy's decision to drop Apple CarPlay connectivity from coming EV products. Brendan echoed Jill's sentiment, noting that the move would likely alienate a certain number of consumers. Paul shared his take on the recent NHRA Nationals event at Route 66 Raceway in Elwood, Illinois. He described the sound--and the palpable engine pounding--that defines an NHRA event. Paul recommends making use of the free earplugs. Paul and Brendan discussed a new review video available on TikTok. The guys recently posted a quick overview of the Genesis G70 small sedan. Brendan applauded the car's excellent steering feel, among other virtues. Tom shared his impressions of the Volvo S90 Recharge plug-in hybrid sedan he recently reviewed. Tom's impressions are mostly favorable, but the car is far from perfect. Still, it looks great. In the second segment the crew welcome Kirk Bell of Motor Authority to the show. Kirk shared his insights regarding the state of the super-car market, and what it is that defines a vehicle as a super car. Kirk also discussed his take on the electrification of high-performance vehicles. It the third segment Paul and Brendan are subjected to Tom's “Still Stick?” quiz. The crew went on to discuss recent EV sales numbers, noting that though Tesla sales are in steep decline, the pioneering electric-car maker still dominates the North American market. That said, Ford's recent EV sales improvement should be recognized. Note: Links to all of these reviews and articles can be found on the Car Stuff Podcast Facebook page, and at Consumerguide.com.
Paul Herrold of the Sons of Speed sits in for Jill this week. The hosts opened the show talking about the Genesis G70 small sedan which Paul is currently evaluating. He is generally pleased with the vehicle, which is popularly considered an alternative to the BMW 3-Series. The hosts went on to discuss new—and needed—federal guidelines for Emergency Automatic Braking systems, which all vehicles will be required to be equipped with for the 2029 model year. There is currently a confusing array of systems offered, with varying degrees of functionality. Still in the first segment Tom had Paul guess which small crossovers were voted most popular in a recent series of Twitter/X polls. Listen in to hear how Paul did. In the second segment Paul and Tom welcome Sam Fiorani of AutoForecast Solutions back to the show. After talking about the recent uptick in hybrid sales, Sam explained the significance of a recent deal forged between Stellantis and Chinese EV start-up Leapmotors. Sam also explained why carmakers and trade wonks are so concerned about Chinese auto-related manufacturing in Mexico, and the potential impact of cars such as the $10,000 BYD Seagull on the U.S EV market. In the last segment Paul is subjected to Tom's “Fake Trim Level” quiz, after which the hosts discussed the new Chevrolet Blazer EV PPV police vehicle.
The Hyundai Santa Fe midsize crossover has been successful for multiple generations in the United States, but it is expected to leap to an even higher level with the imminent introduction of the all-new 2024 version. Host Jack Nerad drove the vehicle on and off the road at a recent introductory event outside Nashville, and he got the opportunity for a detailed sit-down interview with Hyundai product planner Mike Evanoff. In many ways, the new Santa Fe is a breakthrough that we expect will find a very receptive audience here in the United States. Hyundai's Evanoff describes the meticulous efforts the Hyundai designers made to prepare the new vehicle, and he'll detail his own camping trip in it as well. We'll have the exclusive interview for you in this edition of America on the Road. In the road test segment, Co-Host Chris Teague will outline his recent week-long stint at the wheel of the 2024 Subaru Ascent. That crossover is the largest in the Subaru lineup, and Teague compares and contrasts it with his family's Volvo XC90. The vehicles have some striking similarities. Also, in our road tests, Jack Nerad will describe his lengthy driving experience with the extremely pleasant 2024 Genesis G70. The midsize sedan isn't the sportiest in the segment, but it might well be the best value, and Nerad will tell you why. Leading the news this week, Jeep has pulled the wraps off four fascinating concept vehicles in Moab, and we'll tell you all about them. Volkswagen is on the verge of launching an all-new battery-electric vehicle brand in the United States, and if you think the timing might be a little suspect, well, perhaps we do, too. We'll tell you more. One thing about which there is no question is auto dealers' ire at the new Environmental Protection Agency regs that will require them to sell more EVs. One very prominent dealer says the regulations leave consumers out of the equation, and we'll have details. Kia just introduced an all-new vehicle—the K4—at the New York Auto Show. We'll tell you what it is, what it replaces, and give you our reaction soon. So we have a whale of a show this Easter weekend. Thanks for joining us. America on the Road is brought to you by Driving Today.com, Mercury Insurance, and EMLandsea.com , the publisher of Nerad's latest book, Dance in the Dark, which is available HERE on Amazon.com

Jill and Tom opened the show by talking about Jill's strange hotel room. Jill is on the road to drive the new Hyundai Ioniq 6 sedan. The conversation turned to the monthly supply of new cars in the pipeline, and a review of several vehicles which should be easy to find on dealer lots at the moment. The hosts also discussed the all-new Genesis G70 Electrified, an all-electric version of the Korean luxury maker's compact crossover. A full review of the vehicle will be shared on an upcoming episode. Jill and Tom are joined in the second segment by industry analyst Sam Fiorani of AutoForecast Solutions. Sam shared some insight into the operation of large car-dealer chains—including Auto Nation and CarMax—and what retail consolidation means for consumers. Sam also shared insight into the slow rollouts of several electric vehicles, including the Toyota bZ4X, and the Nissan Ariya. Sam joined Jill for this week's quiz. Quiz topic: Subaru, with a bonus question about radish varieties. Tom wrapped up the show sharing his impressions of the BMW X7 M60i large SUV.

Selecting the cars of the year helps celebrate another year reviewing new cars and trucks, visiting auto shows and talking with vintage car owners, book authors and industry experts about their cars of the year. There are always great and not-so-great moments driving vehicles. The industry is always abuzz. There are always changes, oddball statistics, recalls and new models and makes. What has Elon Musk done now? Will autonomous driving and EVs ever make a significant difference? Will low-profile tires stop blowing while negotiating small divots in the road? Will Audi ever change its front-grille design? As much as the automotive industry changes, sometimes not much happens. In 2007, the year the iPhone debuted, the starting price of the Toyota Corolla was $14,925; In 2022, the year a robotic toy cat that nibbles for human comfort made its debut, the starting price of a Toyota Corolla was $20,245. The average price of a new car in 2007 was $27,958. In 2022, the new car price average surpassed $48,000. Three years after TheWeeklyDriver.com debuted, I began to compile a list of top-10 cars of the year. It was also in 2007. The list is now in its 16th year. The 2022 Ford Lightning is the first full-size electric pickup truck. It was on the TheWeeklyDriver.com's list of cars of the year. Image © James Raia/2022. As co-hosts of The Weekly Driver Podcast, Bruce Aldrich and I have expanded my yearly list of cars of the year and detailed the choices during a podcast episode. We're now in our sixth year. Many automotive publications select their best vehicles of the year at the start of the calendar year. I've always announced the selections at the end of the year. Bruce and I agree it's a better approach while reviewing current model year cars throughout the calendar year. Sometimes, a new year's model debuts prior to its corresponding calendar year. Sometimes, new models arrive later in the year. The 2017 Bentley Bentayga is the fastest SUV ever made. It topped TheWeeklyDriver.com's list of cars of the year in 2017. Image © Michael Kahn/Frogstone Media, 2017. This year, as per usual, I reviewed about 40 cars. Bruce also drove most of them, often to lunch after our podcasts and sometimes for extended review sessions. For several years, we made videos before switching to a podcast format. During some years, we've picked a car of the year, like the 2020 Corvette Stingray, the debut year of the mid-engine model. In 2017, the Bentley Bentayga was easily our favorite. In our 250th episode, Bruce and I discuss our respective lists of cars of the year, an exercise we compile individually and then share during the podcast. We mostly make the same selections. The 2020 Corvette stunned the auto world with its mid-engine design and new interior and exterior styling. It was theweeklydriver.com's top pick for 2020 Cars of the Year. Image © James Raia. One exception this year: Bruce selected the BMW M3 Competition; it didn't make my list. We didn't pick a top car of the year in 2022, but we agreed the Ford Lighting was the vehicle we liked the most for its innovation in the expanding electric vehicle segment. The rest of the list doesn't represent the most expensive, most powerful or most of anything else. It's just 10 cars and trucks that stood out for a reason or two. My lists dating to 2004 are listed below. Follow the year links for more details on each vehicle. Bruce discusses his list on the podcast episode. Enjoy. 2022 Ford Lightning, Genesis GV70, Kia EV6, Mercedes-AMG ESQ, Cadillac CT5, Mazda MX-5 Miata, Genesis G70, Toyota Corolla Hybrid, Mercedes-Maybach, Subaru Outback. 2021 Honda Odyssey, Honda Accord Hybrid, Chevrolet Silverado, Ford F-150, Genesis GV80, Toyota RAV4 Prime XSE, Genesis GV90, Aston Martin Vantage, Mustang Mach-E, Rolls-Royce Ghost 2020 Corvette Stingray, Aston Martin Vantage, Genesis G90, Ford Bullitt Mustang, Hyundai Palisade, Jeep Gladiator,

Andrew had a Genesis G70 Shooting Brake for a week, to see what the latest company trying to crack the premium market can do. Listen in to explain to Alan what it was like, who the car is really for and how well all the aspects of ownership have been thought through. Less suspense in this one, we are afraid, as Andrew's enthusiasm is not really kept in check.
During this episode, the 2022 Genesis G70 sedan is reviewed; we run down the list of top rated motorcycle insurance companies; and from coal plants to nuclear plants, US utilities want to adopt nuclear power generation on a smaller scale - what could go wrong?

This week we give our first impressions of the 2020 BMW 228i xDrive Gran Coupe, discuss its driving characteristics, and how it compares to its competitors, like the Genesis G70. CR has released a new study which finds that on many vehicles important advanced safety features like AEB (Automatic Emergency Braking) and FCW (Forward Collision Warning) are only available in expensive optional packages, and paired with less crucial amenities (such as sunroofs and heated seats.) We talk about the importance of these life saving systems, and why they should be standard on every car. We also answer questions about the safety of Tesla's chargers and other home EV chargers in wet, rainy conditions; why tires could become noisy after they are rotated; and suggest a fun, manual transmission car for a teen driver under $15k. ----------------------------------- Have a question for our experts? We recently completed testing on the 2020 Cadillac CT4 luxury sedan, and we discuss how it compares to the Audi A4, Genesis G70, and its sister sedan, the Cadillac CT5. Staying with the Cadillac, the GM's luxury brand recently made headlines with the unveiling of its all-electric Lyriq concept SUV; we talk about the rocky history of electric cars at General Motors, the interesting platform the Lyriq will be based on, and how this car will compete with Tesla's offerings. We also answer questions about fun alternatives to the Hyundai Palisade, how electric truck maker Rivian is stepping up the battery game, tips for snowbirds to maintain their Mazda Miata and Mazda3, and whether it is a good idea to use a padded seat belt cover. ----------------------------------- Have a question for our experts? With the end of one year and the beginning of another, it's always a good time to look back at what happened in the automotive world in the past 12 months and pick cars of the year. It was an ideal time to be part of an industry in 2018. Alternative fuels, ride-sharing platforms, alternative fuel, and the increasing interest in vintage cars and trucks. It was a whirlwind year. The Genesis G80 and G90 are among TheWeeklyDriver.com's Cars of the Year. Co-hosts Bruce Aldrich and James Raia recap the year in Episode #67 of The Weekly Driver Podcast. We focus on the top-10 cars of the year I selected as editor and publisher of www.theweeklydriver.com. Most industry publications and organizations select vehicles of the year in the preceding calendar year. At the Los Angeles Auto Show in November, the 2019 Genesis G70 received several car-of-the-year awards. Genesis is deserving of praise, but its accolades follow the long-time practice of honoring cars too early. We discuss the best cars of the year at the end of the year. It seems more logical to have time to consider all vehicles and add perspective to the selections. My selections for 2018 were chosen from estimated 40 cars and trucks I reviewed in 2018. The Weekly Driver encourages and appreciates feedback from our listeners. Please forward episode links to family, friend and colleagues. The all-new Toyota RAV4 is at the track; we share our impressions and discuss how it's stayed on top of the small SUV market. We also talk about CR's push to standardize the terms used to describe safety gear, and how we're including blind-spot warning into our overall score of vehicles. Don't worry, we squeezed in some audience questions too! ----------------------------------- Subscribe to Talking Cars on Apple Podcasts! This week we welcome CR editor Keith Barry to the podcast, and discuss why fuel prices seem to always go up around summer time. We also break down some of the dangers to look out for when looking for a car loan, and tips to make the best choice for your budget. We talk about our experiences with the 2019 Genesis G70, and wrap with viewer questions about the new Hyundai Santa Fe, Ford F-150 transmission, and (hopefully) our last question about snow tires for the season!
