Bijna 3 miljoen oude, vervuilende auto’s mogen weer Franse steden in.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In this episode of The Virtual Velo Podcast, co-hosts Emma Martin and Chris Schwenker sit down with grimpeur extraordinaire Illi Gardner—multi-time British and European Hill Climb Champion, two-time Everesting world record holder, and the 2024 Zwift Games Climb Champion. With over 10,000 climbing QOMs to her name, including iconic climbs like Ventoux, Tourmalet, Galibier, Zoncolan, Stelvio, and Madone, Illi has redefined what it means to be a pure climber in both the real and virtual worlds.Illi tells us which climb is harder—Alpe d'Huez or Alpe du Zwift—whether she was relieved when Demi Vollering didn't take her crown during the 2024 Tour de France Femmes, and if she's worried her Col de la Madeleine record will fall on this year's queen stage. We break down the life and process of the world's pre-eminent summit sniper—and contemplate whether her dominance on the steepest slopes puts her in the conversation as the best pure climber of the modern era, or if the lack of a pro palmarès closes the door on that debate.Don't miss out on the unique opportunity to delve even deeper into the intriguing topics discussed in this episode.Elite Eracer Illi Gardner—No Special Effects Required in Her Stunning Performance [Zommunique, Apr 24, 2022]A True QOM—Former Professional Cyclist Illi Gardner Breaks Down What It Takes To Win the Zwift Games! Auto - Rund ums Auto.
Juni 1910 in Mailand.

Driving Alfa Romeo’s Stelvio Quadrifoglio QV SUV, the performance flagship at$162,700. This is a performance SUV that’s not for the faint hearted. Alfa Romeoenlisting help from Ferrari to ensure the Stelvio SUV was at the top of its gameand the Stelvio Quadrifoglio’s 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 engine is in reality a Ferrariengine, that influence also extending to suspension tune and overall dynamics. Infact, this SUV is so good I’d buy one in preference to a Ferrari sports model andsave my back in the process. Updated last year the Stelvio Quadrifoglio gainedsome small styling updates inside and out and a new mechanical self-lockingdifferential. Styling wise with its V shaped grille its individual and has realpresence. Just 125 Stelvio’s sold last year so it offers real exclusivity. There’s anaura about Alfa Romeo, I remember when I first starting testing cars in 1981. Inthe foyer of Alfa’s head office in Banksmeadow was a photo of Henry Ford withthe caption “Every time I see an Alfa Romeo pass, I tip my hat.” Henry Ford fullyaware of the brands sports image from its numerous race victories especially inthe 1930’s. Driving Alfa Romeo’s Stelvio Quadrifoglio QV SUV, the Stelvio performanceflagship at $162,700. The styling striking with sculptured V-shaped Alfa grille hasreal appeal, so too the interior, a combination of leather, Alcantara and carbonfibre, beautifully executed together with great instrumentation. And it has thebest- looking automotive badge in the car business. But it’s the underpinnings ofthe Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio that are standout. A Ferrari-developed 2.9-litre twin turbo V6 driving all four-wheels through an 8-speed automatic with shiftpaddles. The drivetrain a high point – with four drive settings, Dynamic, Normal,Adaptive and Race, changing steering weight, gear shift speed, suspensionfirmness, stability control and exhaust volume – in Race mode all hell breaksloose with an aggressive performance that as the name implies, is best for aracetrack. Weighing 1830kilos it literally jumps to 100km/hour in just 3.8 seconds.A stunning performance SUV and so it should be with such an exalted price tag.But to me this is a collector model – an Italian masterpiece – but it’s not perfect –I’d like a spare wheel while the ride quality on very low-profile tyres can betiresome, and servicing is quite expensive, $3,210 over three years but oh what adrive. Warranty: five-years/unlimited km. I’m David BerthonSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

They discuss Jack's racing background, his journey through the brutal world of third-division European racing, how he came to record some of the fastest times up the most famous climbs in the world, why he is struggling to get a contract with a pro team, and his plans for 2025. Throughout his 12 years in the World Tour, Thomas De Gendt was known as one of the preeminent breakaway specialists of the century, winning five Grand Tour stages including the infamous Queen Stage of the Giro on the Passo dello Stelvio. Recently, he announced that after 16 years as a pro on the road, he would be switching to gravel. This week, Thomas sat down with Payson in Girona to talk about his illustrious road career, including that now legendary surprise stage win at the Giro in 2012, stumbling upon the benefits of altitude camps long before they became standard practice, and how the collapse of a team nearly forced him into retirement when he was at the top of his game.
In this episode, I caught up with multiple South African champion Ashleigh Moolman Pasio. We talked about how she ended up in Banyoles near Girona, the Rocacorba Cycling business, her QOM Strava record on the famous Rocacorba climb near Girona, and the challenge she set herself to get the best women's time below 30 minutes.Ashleigh will share her advice on how to pace yourself when aiming for your PR because pushing just a little over your limit for half of the climb will ultimately cost you later. The Rocacorba will never attain the status of an Alpe d'Huez, Stelvio, or Tre Cime di Lavaredo, but thanks to a lucky combination of geography, local patronage, and technology, It has already become much more than a footnote in cycling folklore. We hope you'll enjoy this fully packed and insightful episode with Ashleigh Moolman Pascio of AG Insurance - Soudal cycling team CHAPTERS00:00 Welcome 05:20 Live From Columbia 09:31 Rocacorba Cycling, How It All Started20:23 Rocacorba21:45 A Bucket List Climb, the Pros Test Climb29:29 Strava Segment, Mastering the Pacing Strategy36:20 When Getting to the Top 38:49 Tips for Descending Rocacorba Safely41:16 Training Intervals and Efforts 48:41 The Benefits of Riding with Local Guides in Girona52:08 Rocacorba Strava QOM56:25 Ending – LINKS –Rocacorba CyclingRocacorba Strava SegmentAshleigh Moolman PascioHost: Soren JensenSEND US YOUR QUESTIONS If you want your questions to be answered on air, be sure to submit your questions by sending us a message on social media or by email to podcast@castelli-cycling.com Hosted on Acast. Jill and Tom talked briefly about the eclipse that was taking place during the recording of this week's episode. The conversation turned to the news that Tesla will not be producing the long-promised Model 2, a small electric vehicle with a base price of around $25,000. In other news, the hosts discussed the sudden decline in large pickup-truck sales, a thing which Jill believes is temporary, and not a harbinger of economic weakness. Jill shared her impressions of the 2024 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio, a vehicle which the hosts agree is best suited for performance-loving extroverts. Jill noted that the Stelvio is very fast, and that the Verde Montreal (green) color of her test car is not for the faint of heart. In the second segment Tom and Jill welcome Greg Clark, Vice President of Ineos Automotive of the Americas to the show. Greg talked about the Ineos Grenadier, an off-road SUV, which is now on sale in the States. The Grenadier was designed to be an homage to the original Land Rover Defender, and is built for severe rock-crawling activity. Greg talked about the process by which Ineos was able to bring a vehicle to market in less than three years. Greg also discussed the Ineos Quartermaster, a Grenadier-based pickup truck arriving in Ineos dealerships later this year. In the last segment, Jill is subjected to Tom's “Mitsubishi or Golf Club” quiz. Jill's quiz winning streak may be in jeopardy. After the Quiz Tom talked about the 2024 GMC Sierra AT4X he is currently driving. Tom is generally impressed, and had a few things to say about the diesel engine his truck is equipped with.
This week, Editors Don Williams and Nic de Sena discuss the new Moto Guzzi Stelvio. It has been around eight years since Moto Guzzi updated the Stelvio, and so expectations were quite high when Nic went to the launch in Spain. Don chats with Nic about his experiences with the new Stelvio, and whether this new version is now a credible ADV bike. In the second segment this week, Associate Editor Teejay Adams chats with Ray Hammons. Despite his mature age, a couple years ago Ray realized a long time dream—to learn to ride a motorcycle. To say that he jumped in with both feet is somewhat of an understatement. Ray was fortunate enough to attend the YCRS Champ Street School when he first got his license, and interestingly, he credits the school with saving his life almost immediately. The topic of whether you should cover the brake when riding is actually quite controversial, and if you do it during an MSF course, you will fail. This is patently wrong, and Ray is clearly hoping the right people wake up, and this change is made to rider training across the country. We love your feedback! Después de 'Todo al Giro'... ¡llega 'Giro Memories'! Alfa Romeo might be best known for its Formula 1 presence, or its sporty convertibles that help stop weddings in major motion pictures. Unfortunately, the two-seat cabriolet isn't exactly helping major automakers keep their lights on. Steering into the meat of the market, the folks at Alfa Romeo launched a sub-compact crossover dubbed Tonale. The Tonale might not be as exciting as its larger Stelvio sibling, or the long list of sporty Alfas of yesteryear, but it does help spread the brand's awareness and give shoppers something different in a sea of crossovers. Powering the Tonale is exclusively a plug-in hybrid powertrain that blends a 1.3-liter I4 with a hybrid system to send 285 hp to the wheels. On this episode of Quick Spin, Autoweek's Patrick Carone hops behind the wheel of the 2024 Alfa Romeo Tonale and puts it through its paces. Carone walks you around the Tonale and highlights some of his favorite features. Later, Carone takes you along for a live drive review. Adding to these segments, Carone chats with host Wesley Wren about the Tonale's similarities to the Dodge Hornet, Alfa's presence in the United States, and more. Closing the show, the pair break down what makes the 2024 Alfa Romeo Tonale special.

Most car buyers have agreed: cars are out, and crossovers and SUVs are in. Throwing its hat in the flood of crossover and SUV demand, the folks at Alfa Romeo launched the Stelvio for the 2017 model year. Sharing a platform with the Giulia sedan, this Italian people mover is a quintessential crossover. Leaning into the company's heritage, the team at Alfa affixed a modern Alfa Romeo grille to the Stelvio's front end and topped it off with the icon Alfa badge. Under the hood, Alfa offers a 2.0-liter I4 that makes 280 hp or the 2.9-liter V6 in Quadrifolgio trim that makes 505 hp. The sends that power to either the rear wheels or all four depending on how yours is optioned. On this episode of Quick Spin, Executive Editor Tom Murphy hops behind the wheel of a 2023 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Lusso. Murphy takes you on a guided tour of the Stelvio and highlights its styling and features before taking you along on a live drive review. Adding to the show, Murphy chats with host Wesley Wren about this Alfa Romeo's details. The pair also discuss the Stelvio's sales numbers and compare this crossover to its competition and the luxury crossover segment. Closing the show, the pair breakdown what makes the 2023 Alfa Romeo Stelvio special.
