Somehow, the Lexus LC is in the back half of a decade in production. Debuting in 2016 at the Detroit auto show, the LC500 helped give something similar to the legendary Lexus LFA to the masses – well, the masses that could afford a spendy-but-more-affordable grand tourer. Powered by either a 5.0-liter V8 or a 3.5-liter V6-based hybrid system, the Lexus LC 500 can offer a growing exhaust note or the more demure world of a fuel-sipping hybrid grand tourer. In LC 500h hybrid trim, the 3.5-liter works with a CVT and electric motors to make 354 hp of total system output and, according to Lexus, only suffers a 0.3-second penalty in a sprint to 60 mph. For 2024, the team at Lexus overhauled the LC 500's interior and replaced the old touchpad-based media system with a more modern touchscreen-based media system.  On this episode of Quick Spin, host Wesley Wren hops behind the wheel of the 2024 Lexus LC 500h. Wren takes you on a guided tour of the '24 Lexus LC500h and highlights some of its new features. Later, Wren takes you along for a live drive review of this hybrid grand tourer. Adding to these segments, Wren chats with Autoweek's Patrick Carone about the Lexus LC 500, the changes, and where it sits in the greater world of luxury sports cars. Closing the show, the pair breaks down what makes the 2024 Lexus LC 500h special.

Sitting in for Jill this week is Tom's friend, engineer and car guy David Piluski. Dave and Tom opened the show addressing a mistake Tom made—called out by Tom's mother—last week. Tom misidentified the longtime singer of the classic “See the U.S.A. in Your Chevrolet” ad/song as Doris Day, though as noted by his mom, the song was sung by Dinah Shore. Listen in to hear a clip of the song. Dave and Tom addressed a second error from last week, this one called out by listener Celio. Dave went on to share a story about how a rental Dodge Shadow Convertible—back in the early Nineties—suffered from so much body flex that the doors would not close on a gentle incline. Still in the first segment, Tom shared his impressions of the all-new—and surprisingly luxurious—Mazda CX-70 2-row midsize crossover. Tom also reviewed the exotic-looking Lexus LC 500 Convertible. Tom is baffled that the car does not sell better. Listen in for the full review. In the second segment, Dave and Tom are joined by comic, podcaster, and legendary Chicago radio host Steve Cochran. Steve talked about his podcast, and then shared stories about his first cars and learning to drive. Learn why Steve once gave away a car he owned at a radio-station promotional event. In the last segment Dave is subjected to Tom's “1983!” quiz. To wrap up the show, Dave shared news regarding a California bill (SB961) now before Governor Gavin Newsom, which would require cars to alert drivers when the speed limit was being exceeded by more than 10 mph. Dave also talked about his own podcast.

Tom explained why the Canadian market would be friendlier to Chinese imports than the U.S. The hosts went on to discuss recent U.S.-market sales growth for Mazda. The Japanese maker had recently made public it's intention to take the Mazda brand upmarket, and early sales of its CX-50 and CX-90 models suggest that the project is successful. Tom also shared some fun data on the cities in which the Car stuff Podcast is most popular. Get ready to embark on a journey that marries opulence with horsepower as Mr. Marrs gives us an exclusive tour of the 2024 Lexus LC 500 Coupe. Fasten your seatbelts and prepare to be dazzled by the ultrasonic blue mica that's setting the streets ablaze with its vibrancy. We're talking about a car that's not just a feast for the eyes but also an auditory delight, thanks to the Mark Levinson premium audio system that Mr. Marrs can't stop raving about. And let's not forget the heart of this beast – a 5.0-liter V8 engine that doesn't just purr, it roars with 471 horsepower. But is this beauty more than just a show car? We put that to the test and discuss everything from the striking triple beam headlamps to the question on everyone's lips: does the speed-activated rear wing really offer the performance boost it promises or is it just another pretty piece? As Mr. Marrs takes the wheel, we get the skinny on what it's like to command such power and style, and yes, we even tackle the practicalities – or should we say, the lack thereof. Where in the world do you put your iPhone in such a sumptuous leather interior that seems to have overlooked storage solutions? Despite that, we uncover the little joys, like the seamless integration with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Alexa, all available at your fingertips on the 12.3-inch Lexus interface screen. Mr. Marrs doesn't hold back, sharing his take on the mileage after a 343.2-mile ride, and whether or not the EPA's promises hold up in the real world. So, join us as we cruise through the ins and outs of what makes the LC 500 a luxury driver.Lupe Tortilla, sponsor Tailpipes & Tacos Lupe Tortilla in Katy, Texas, is host to the quarterly Saturday morning cruise-in!Sponsored by Gulf Coast Auto Shield Paint protection and more!Disclaimer: This post contains affiliate links. Opposites Attack: 2024 Honda Passport TrailSport, 2024 Lexus LC 500 Convertible

Our two test vehicles this week couldn't be more different. The 2024 Honda Passport TrailSport is the brand's latest effort to cash in on the current off-road craze that continues to sweep the nation. With all-terrain tires, a trick torque-vectoring all-wheel-drive system and some appearance mods, the Passport TrailSport isn't just fun to say; it is also fun to drive. But will it do the job off-road? That is a question we raise in this episode of America on the Road. Co-Host Chris Teague had the opportunity to test the TrailSport in some of the wettest weather ever to hit the state of Maine. Was the Honda off-roader up to the challenge? He'll have the answer to that and more details as well. On the other side of the automotive coin is the 2024 Lexus LC 500 Convertible. It is hard to imagine a more on-road-oriented vehicle than this six-figure specialty car from Toyota's luxury brand. In its tech and driver assistance features, the LC 500 ragtop is as new as tomorrow, but under the hood, its 5.0-liter normally aspirated V8 engine is a definite throwback. Happily, we like throwbacks, especially when they offer more than 400 horsepower. The overall result is a car that is both fun to drive and fun to be seen in. Host Jack Nerad will tell you more about his week with the car in the road test segment. In the news this week, official word has come in that an iconic performance vehicle is going to come to market as a battery electric in 2026. We'll tell you the model and give you more details in this episode. As we have reported in the past several weeks, EVs are piling up on dealers' lots and used EV values are plummeting. We'll tell you why this is happening and what it means to you, even if you don't plan to buy an electric car. While many carmakers are still touting a battery-electric future, Hyundai is about to announce a giant new initiative too create a hydrogen ecosystem. We'll have details and our reactions a bit later. This week, our special guest is Sam Fiorani, vice president of global vehicle forecasting at AutoForecast Solutions. Fiorani is a much-quoted expert on the world's automotive industry from the inside, and he'll give us his perspective on 2023 and on what we can expect in 2024. All that and more are coming up in this episode of America on the Road. America on the Road is brought to you by Driving Today.com, Mercury Insurance, YourTestDriver.com, and EMLandsea.com , the publisher of Nerad's latest book, Dance in the Dark, which is available HERE on Amazon.com

The world of personal luxury coupes exploded in the 1950s and 1960s. Land yachts like the Buick Riviera and the Continental MkII and, to a certain extent, the Jensen Interceptor. While the idea of personal luxury has effectively died, its spirit lives on in the wild Lexus LC. The aptly named Luxury Coupe exists between the world of brutal, luxury sports coupes and hyper-luxe grand tourers. This Lexus might not be as track hungry as, say, a Porsche 911, but it makes up for its lack of track performance with a hefty dose of luxury appointments on the interior and wild, striking design on the outside. While this Lexus is available with a naturally 5.0-liter V8, the hybrid variant replaces the screaming exhaust note with a fuel-efficient 3.5-liter V6 and electric motors. This hybrid might not be as potent as the V8, but its combined 354 hp is more than enough to hustle this 4,200-pound coupe to highway speeds. On this episode of Quick Spin, host Wesley Wren hops behind the wheel of the 2022 Lexus LC 500h to put it through its paces. Wren walks you around the LC 500 to highlight its styling and features before giving you a guided tour of its wild interior. Wren also takes you along for a live drive review. Wren also chats with Autoweek's Patrick Carone about this Lexus, where it stands in the market and what kind of competition it faces. Closing the show, the two break down what makes this car special.

What measures should the government take to tackle this? Ed gives his opinion and we hope that the industry recovers soon. Moving on, ed drove one hell of a good looking car in Japan this week. The Lexus LC 500h is one of the most striking luxury coupes out there. How has the Japenese marque managed to create a design like this is something that needs telling. It also sports a very complicated 10-speed gearbox which uses a CVT and a torque convertor in conjunction. How does this exactly work? Is the car coming to India? We have it all answered for you in the podcast.

The 2018 Lexus LC 500 is arguably the most attractive car made in the past several years. It turns heads in parking lots and gets stared at on the open road. Strangers point at it and give a thumb's up. The new Lexus belongs on the list of the 100 most attractive cars ever made. It would be among the few modern-day vehicles on the subjective selections automotive publications publish about every 10 years. The stunning new 2018 Lexus LC 500. Image © Bruce Aldrich/2018 Bruce Aldrich, co-host of The Weekly Driver Podcast, and I shared driving duties in the new Lexus from Sacramento to the Delta hamlet of Courtland and back last week. We were on assignment at Hemly Cider, the craft cider maker. We discuss the new top-of-the-line Lexus in Episode #29 of our podcast. Succinctly stated, the LC 500 is beautifully crafted inside and out. It's automobile design at its finest. Also in this episode: I write a weekly automotive column for Bay Area News Group in San Francisco region. I get e-mail letters from time to time and in recent weeks, a few emails were of particular interest. The new Lexus has run-flat tires. The timing was ideal because one reader of my column suggested I always include information of the type of tires included on new cars. The reader expressed her frustration with bad experiences with run-flat tires — their expense and lousy longevity. A recent column I wrote about the RV industry and its continuing problems was well-received and several readers e-mailed detailing their issues with sub-par manufacturing and difficulty getting satisfactory repairs. The Motor Trend International Auto Show opens today at the Baltimore Convention Center and runs through Sunday. There are more than 500 cars at the show, and we wondered: What’s hot and what’s not?Midday host Tom Hall stopped by the car show last night and wandered around with Rory Cahill. Rory knows a lot about cars, and his expertise has attracted the attention of a lot of folks. On two occasions, General Motors has shipped a car to Rory’s house in Baltimore and asked him to try it out for a week, and give them his unvarnished opinion. In the biz, he’s known as “an influencer.”So Rory seemed like a good guy to talk to when we wanted to find out which cars are the coolest cars at this year’s auto show. There’s only one thing Rory doesn’t know about cars: how to drive them. Rory is 13, three years shy of getting his license. Here’s a film about Rory that debuted at the MD Film Festival last year, plus a couple of his reviews from the 2016 New York Auto Show about the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio and the Lexus LC 500. Special thanks to director and engineer Luke Spicknall, who helped turn our trip to the Baltimore Auto Show into today’s Midday.Later in the show, Tom welcomes award-winning automotive journalist Tom Voelk to Studio A. They chat about what’s new in the car industry and what you might want to consider if you’re in the market for new wheels, and they take your calls and comments. Since 2004, Voelk, who is based in Seattle, has been making ----Driven Car Review---- videos. For several years the Driven videos were on The New York Times website, and Voelk still writes about automobiles as a contributor for The Times. You can catch all of his “Driven Car Review” videos on his Youtube channel. His podcast, which is also called “Driven Car Reviews,” was the first podcast to win an Emmy Award. Voelk has a background in television and has won 20 Emmys in all. Sami, on the other hand, spends a week driving not one, but four compact SUVs: the Volkswagen Tiguan, the Honda CR-V, the Nissan Rogue, and the Chevrolet Equinox, to see which one comes out on top. Wrapping things up, the pair discuss the Toyota Prius Prime plug-in hybrid, and specifically, how to devise a system that lets everyone around you know just how efficient you're driving.
