Our guest for this week is Skip Kelly, a traveling biohacker, digital business nomad, and adventure filmmaker.About SkipIf you feel like you’ve seen Skip before, then it might have been on our show! This is Skip’s second appearance on the Inspired Evolution Podcast. If you want to check out our previous conversation about living the life of your dreams and inspiring humanity, click here!Skip started his career as a professional consultant on the matters of biomechanics for US Olympic trainers and athletes. He coached them on topics such as exercise physiology, nutrition, and injury prevention.Over the years, he has used his talents in filmmaking and storytelling to help people promote their brands and discover their voice in their respective industries. He is also a member of the Mindvalley University and he frequently makes lovely videos about the events and gatherings. Skip’s videos are gorgeous depictions of what Mindvalley is all about. Check out one of his most recent videos from this years Mindvalley U in Croatia! In 2019, Skip started the ‘Prehab Dojo’, a company that aims to improve the quality of people's lives by being health-conscious and providing edu-tainment on the topics of health and longevity. They offer guided meditations and other educational content that will help you communicate with your body and feel great, both physically and emotionally.Connect with Skip:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/skip.kelly.56YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCItDJDFI0ImtSk9sOIGgQkAInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/skipkellyfilms/?hl=srLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/skip-kelly-b9b016a2/Website: https://www.prehabdojo.com/In This Episode We Canvas:Defining Success as FulfillmentSkip recalls all the times in his career when he was working with people who were considered successful by all sorts of standards. Even when he was working with US Olympic athletes and coaches who were at the very peak of their field, he realized there was little to no room for fulfillment in their definitions of success.“When are we going to start talking about success as fulfillment? It’s just not a thing. It’s very rare.” - Skip KellyWhat Does It Mean to Be a Fulfillionaire?Skip has discovered a term that sums up his current point of interest he wishes to invest his energy into. The term ‘fulfillionaire’ is an awesome way to describe what we should all strive towards becoming. It highlights both the importance of fulfillment for living a healthy life while also establishing a financial connotation.“I think the core part of ‘fulfillionaire’ and why I think that title is appropriate is it alludes to ‘millionaire, billionaire…’ and how important money is to a fulfilling life. It’s not so much about rolling in hundreds but it is about not having real problems. Real problems being: shelter, food, safety…” - Skip KellyShould We Seek Happiness or Fulfillment? We went on to explore the relationship between happiness and fulfillment and Skip shares his thoughts on the key distinctions between seeking happiness and fulfillment. He used to think of himself to be a great supporter of having happiness as the main goal in life. But he recently shifted towards fulfillment as he found it to be more valuable and he explains why.“Happiness comes from acceptance but growth comes from change. If you can just accept where you are, you’ll be happy… You can be happy in any circumstance. The question is ‘are you fulfilled by just being happy?’” - Skip KellyFinding Your Purpose In Your Existential StrugglesSkip shares with us a great mind experiment which has a purpose to provide us with insight into what’s truly important to us; what really moves us. By examining the existential struggles you’ve faced in your life, you can dig around to find the real jewels which are the things that move and inspire you most in life. The key to living a fulfilled life is to choose to spend your time engaging in activities that fulfill you.“It’s kind of like a ‘Choose Your Own Adventure’ success game.” - Skip KellyThe Value of Identifying with Characters in StoriesAnother strategy for discovering what we truly value in life is to pay attention to what makes us identify with characters in stories. Whether we’re consuming them through movies, books or video games, stories provide us with a context where characters get to depict behaviors, attitudes, and values. If they align with our own values, then we’re more likely to identify with those characters over others. Skip sees this as an opportunity to both recognize and remind ourselves of what we hold in high regard in life.“The more you can appreciate these characters in life the more you can start to realize what inspires you and who you want to show up as on a day to day basis.” - Skip KellyHow to Fight LonelinessSkip draws from his own experiences in dealing with loneliness. He recognizes that being simply surrounded by other people will not help you feel less lonely because the feeling isn’t simply caused by lack of physical proximity to others. Skip argues that in order to truly overcome loneliness, we must understand that the feeling itself is not helpful to us.“You feeling lonely is just you feeling lonely. It’s not the actual thing… By connecting to other people, knowing that they feel lonely and helping them feel less alone, you will feel less alone.” - Skip KellySkip’s Message of Inspired EvolutionI always enjoy having people back on the podcast and having a chance to catch up with Skip was a real blessing. I think our conversation covered some amazing topics regarding fulfillment. I think Skip gave us some great arguments why it’s a great concept to consider on the road to transformation and living a better life. He argued the case for fulfillment beautifully and one of the key things that really stuck with me is how he, at one point, managed to draw a hopeful message from a very nihilistic premise. The only thing left to say in response is ‘why not?:“We’re all just floating on a giant rock in space, maybe in a computer simulation. So really, how important is it that you live up to your ‘potential’? And at the same time, whatever you do doesn’t matter and so why not do the things that inspire you and fulfill you?” - Skip Kelly See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Greetings, SuperFriends! Today we are joined by Kristina Mand-Lakhiani. Kristina is a serial entrepreneur, international speaker, artist, mom of two, and much much more. In fact, you've probably heard of the business Kristina and her husband Vishen founded - it's called Mindvalley, and it is pretty much one of the largest education and transformation companies on the web. They run the popular A-Fest Event, MindValley U, and many more different business divisions. Mindvalley is currently a team of approximately 300 people, and they're based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Kristina helps her students to virtually hack happiness by taking them through her unique framework. From a small meditation business, operating out of the couple's apartment in New York, her company quickly grew into a global educational powerhouse, partnering with some of the top thought leaders on the world. I have to say Mindvalley is one of the companies that, since I discovered it not too long ago, really is a model and an inspiration for anything we are doing here at SuperHuman Enterprises. So, it was really cool to connect with Kristina, learn more about her journey, and I think what you'll find is that she's admittedly very different from what you'd expect from the co-founder of a transformational education company. She thinks differently, she talks differently, and it was really cool to get her perspective on various subjects we discussed throughout the episode. I have to say that this was a really good episode. Admittedly, Kristina told me that I put her in a different area than she's used to talking about, given that her message is more often about how to tap into self-love and discovering/grounding yourself. But it was really fun and we both agreed that it was an amazing conversation, that I think you are going to learn, enjoy, and benefit quite a bit from! -Jonathan Levi
The TED of Transformation My friend Vishen Lakhiani’s exploration of peak human potential began in 2001, when he took meditation classes to remedy his crushing work stress in a New York technology company. This soon inspired him to launch Mindvalley: a company bringing transformational education to the world Back then, shortly after he launched some of his first meditation apps, I actually hosted Vishen on the podcast , in which we geeked out on meditation, and the meditation apps that Vishen and his team began designing. After 15 years, 3 million students, and numerous accolades from the likes of Huffington Post, BBC, Inc. Magazine, and WorldBlu, Mindvalley became recognized as one of the world’s top workplaces, and a leading publisher in the personal growth industry. But Vishen’s vision extended further. He believes many aspects of mainstream education remain dangerously stuck in obsolete industrial revolution-era paradigms. And that the evolution of humanity’s consciousness is lagging behind our innovations in technology. This makes the evolution of our education - or as he calls it, Transformational Education - one of our most pressing concerns. Through Mindvalley, Vishen now works with governments, education institutions, technology innovators, artists, and the world’s best teachers to create deeply transformational learning experiences: the kind that elevate people of all ages and walks of life into empowered, cosmocentric, highly evolved human beings. Today, Vishen is a leading voice for transformational education and is the founder of annual events like A-Fest and Mindvalley U, both events which I've attended and spoken at. He also speaks on stages across the world on subjects such as personal growth, education technology, and workplace culture. He sits on the Innovation Board of the XPrize Foundation, an advocate of human-centric technological development. And he’s also a bestselling author, including the incredibly popular book "Code Of The Extraordinary Mind". But Vishen’s latest mission is arguably his most audacious yet: within the next 20 years, he intends to completely evolve mankind’s approach to learning, by bringing Transformational Education to every country and Fortune 500 company on the planet. One of the ways he's doing that is via the innovative MindValley Quests, and in today's podcast, we talk about the new Beauty & Longevity Quest I've created with MindValley, and much, much more! During our discussion, you'll discover: -When and why Vishen launched Mind Valley...14:32 Wanted to start the next great social media platform in 2002. Lost everything; owed money; couldn't pay rent. Got a job selling tech info to lawyers. Ended up depressed. Hit rock bottom. Googled, "Why does life suck so bad?" Discovered class on meditation. Was the only person who showed up to the class. Began applying meditation, empathy, intuition into his work. Sales improved exponentially in 4 months. Looking to tap into the subconscious for ideas. How Vishen incorporated meditation into his sales calls: Gave his mind "instructions": Only call lawyers that are a good fit for the tech. Would benefit both sides from a sale. Ran hand over names; listened for a "gut impulse." Yes, or no. Doubled sales in one week listening to his gut. Quit sales job and became a meditation instructor. Took the Silva Mind Control; adapted to his own practice. Has now integrated with Mind Valley. "Mind Valley Intuition Program" How often do you do the Silva Mind Control? -The 113 points that are measured in the Mind Valley program...30:20 Based on an online assessment developed by Jon Butcher. Unifying different models of personal growth via merger, acquisition. Prices on programs are lowered, more available to people. -Vishen's own personal habits and bio hacks...34:00 Extremely structured life. Aspergers causes awkwardness in social situations, OCD behavior in work. Knowledge is data; focus on transformation to live a more fulfilling life. Focusing on transformation changed Vishen's outlook on life, physical appearance, mindset. Wants to have the biggest jump in consciousness in history by 2038. Vishen's Daily Routine: "Transcendent practice" Compassion Gratitude Forgiveness Creative visualization (long term) Visualize today Prayer or a blessing Intermittent fasting Cold thermogenesis Healthy morning shake Coconut oil Raw green powder Acai Protein powder Super slow strength training Very regimented work program. 8 hours per day. Family, reading, study time. -How Vishen fixed his eyesight...57:20 Read his blog post about it . Get your eyes checked from a doctor, not an optometrist. Get glasses one increment down from your actual vision. Install eye chart in your home. Get a vision coach, online vision course. Eyeglasses are a crutch! -Vishen's sleep routine...1:03:35 -The diet that Vishen promotes which mimics that of our ancestors...1:08:15 Wild Fit 80% of your body shape is what you eat. An "anti-diet" diet program. Rooted in behavioral psychology. 90 day program. Week 6-7, you go off sugar; that's when the fat starts to shed. You end up craving only what's good for you. -About the Beauty and Longevity Quest that Mind Valley did with Ben...1:19:40 -And much more... [27:40] Vishen reveals the impact he wants to have on the world. [35:43] QUOTES: “But if you ask a human being to share with you the moments in life that they're most grateful for, all of those moments often deal with inner states. It's falling in love, it's carrying your first child in your arm. It's the joy of accomplishing your first big win. And all of these, all of these are states of happiness, states of joy, states of human connectivity.” [4:04] “When you get a clear vision of the business you want to create, of the lifestyle you want to create, you move towards that faster.” [19:03] “One of the biggest ways we transform is when we connect with others. And we have shared meanings when we support each other. When you share your vision of the world and I share mine or when we challenge each other's ideas, but it all comes by bringing people together.” [22:58] FOLLOW VISHEN LAKHIANI: WEBSITE - https://bit.ly/2nWmjGZ FACEBOOK - https://bit.ly/2OHLRJZ TWITTER - https://bit.ly/2okogAa INSTAGRAM - https://bit.ly/2PLEZI1 PEOPLE MENTIONED IN THIS EPISODE: Ray Kurzweil - https://bit.ly/1hro1XM [5:04] Michael Singer - https://bit.ly/2yTHLnt [17:21] Ed Diener - https://bit.ly/2S6S2p6 [23:28] Lisa Nichols - https://bit.ly/29Q4cRC [26:41] BOOKS MENTIONED IN THIS EPISODE: The Code of the Extraordinary Mind - https://amzn.to/2rIcjV9 [2:06] Altered Traits - https://amzn.to/2j8ogmp [8:10] The Surrender Experiment - https://amzn.to/2xy9b3b [17:22] COMPANIES MENTIONED IN THIS EPISODE: Mindvalley - https://bit.ly/2OCb1tr [0:42] Mindvalley U - https://bit.ly/2PfK1Qa [0:53] Omvana - https://bit.ly/1Iidw4C [1:13] Dormio - https://bit.ly/2oQN0l7 [1:20] Mindvalley Quest - https://bit.ly/2R4KZMf [1:24] XPRIZE - https://bit.ly/2E8aOWy [1:50] STUDIES MENTIONED IN THIS EPISODE: Superbrain - https://bit.ly/2ypQxKs [28:16]
