In fact, women weren't required to be in clinical research until 1993, and women are diagnosed on average 4 years later than men for the same disease. Female Leader | From the Ground Up Peggy McHale is a serial entrepreneur, growth guru, and renown female leader in the consulting industry where she built her business, C2G Partners. Peggy is the co-author of Black and White Strike Gold: Practical Nuggets to Grow Your Business, and she serves on NJIT's Undergraduate Research and Innovation Board and The Women's Center for Entrepreneurship (WCEC) Board. She has a long list of accolades and accomplishments, but the recent sale of her business was one of the most significant milestones in her career. The emotional and logistical challenges of growing and selling a business are greater than most could imagine, but they provided Peggy with invaluable lessons that made her the leader she is today. She joined us to share some of them and explain what it took to achieve success as a woman in the marketing industry. Built to Sell Prior to becoming an entrepreneur, Peggy built a successful career as a female leader in corporate America. However, when 9/11 took place, the global economic impact forced Peggy and thousands of others into unemployment. Instead of looking for a new job, Peggy decided to pursue her dormant goal of starting a business, and she entered the consulting industry after discovering a widespread need for interim expertise. She and her partner built a business plan, tapped into their networks, and softened the market so they could hit the ground running when they launched C2G. One-by-one, Peggy built a team of elite experts and grew the company to 150 employees before selling—but it did not come easy. Making Difficult Decisions One of the most challenging parts of being a female leader is making difficult decisions swiftly and effectively. Since her business plan incorporated an exit strategy from the beginning, it meant she had to constantly make difficult decisions to stay on course. The greatest cost for a consulting business is labor, so when the recession hit, Peggy had to cut people based on revenue generation alone. And when she sold, she had to deal with changes in loyalty and attitude after the new owners came into the picture. No matter what your goals are, every decision you make will have consequences; About Peggy McHale Peggy is the co-founder and recently retired Managing Director for C2G Partners (Formerly Consultants 2 Go) a Newark, NJ based consulting firm that provides marketing and analytic solutions to Fortune 500 companies in the Financial Services, Telecom, CPG, Healthcare, and Insurance industries. C2G was acquired by Whitegate Capital Partners, a private equity firm in 2016. C2G was recognized for the second time by Fortune Magazine/ICCC as one of the top 100 Inner City Companies in the US. In addition, C2G was also included on the Inc. 500/5000 list as one of the fastest-growing companies in the US for the last six years. Peggy is the co-author of Black and White Strike Gold: Practical Nuggets to Grow Your Business. She just recently co-wrote Lessons Beyond the Obvious: An Entrepreneurs Handbook. Before she started her company with her partner Sandi Webster, she was a Vice President of Marketing at American Express. She holds an MBA in Finance from St. John's University and a BA from the College of Mount St. Vincent. Peggy currently serves as an independent Board Member for Pariveda Solutions. In addition, Peggy is committed to supporting several nonprofit organizations including NJIT's Undergraduate Research and Innovation Board and The Women's Center for Entrepreneurship (WCEC) Board. Peggy served on the State Board of the New Jersey Association of Women Business Owners as their Vice President of Marketing and Nominations Chair. She is also a member of the Women Presidents' Organization, New Jersey Technology Council (NJTC), National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) and NYPAY. Peggy was a Finalist for EY's Entrepreneur of the Year in 2016 & 2017. She was also awarded Leading Women of NJ and Top 50 Women Leaders in NJ by NJ Biz. What You Will Learn: How Peggy started her company and grew it to 150 employees How Peggy leveraged her network to soften the market before launching her company How Peggy and her partner extended their expertise to new team members so they could start delegating and growing the business Practices that helped Peggy make difficult decisions as a female leader How Peggy navigated the internal and external challenges of selling her business Resources: Website: www.pandimedia.com LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/peggymchale/ Twitter: @peggymchale

In Episode 40 of TechBuzz China, co-hosts Ying-Ying Lu and Rui Ma talk about the new “Technology Innovation Board” on the Shanghai Stock Exchange, which formally announced its first set of rules last week. Rui and Ying-Ying explain that given its recent trajectory, this registration-based NASDAQ-style board could be launched in a few months, if not weeks — much more quickly than skeptics have assumed. With this news as the backdrop, this week's episode serves as a quick primer into the differences between China and the U.S.'s capital markets, as well as how these contrasts may explain some of the differences in Chinese tech entrepreneurship and capital versus those in the U.S.Rui and Ying-Ying begin by walking through a brief history of Chinese domestic capital markets, which had a total market cap of $6 billion late last year and are still really young compared with those in the U.S.; in fact, both the Shenzhen Stock Exchange and the larger Shanghai Stock Exchange were founded in 1990. Notably, prior to last fall, foreigners were unable to invest in A-shares on either exchange. Even after loosening controls earlier this year and doubling the amount foreign investors can invest, China still enforces a total quota of $300 billion, shared globally. Our co-hosts cover a range of core questions in this episode. Listen to find out: How does the fact that the Chinese exchanges are approval-based, and not registration-based, affect listings? What role does the China Securities Regulatory Commission, or CSRC, play? Why are there only 3,500 publicly listed companies in China? Why did the Shenzhen Stock Exchange create two additional avenues for listing, in the form of the SME Board and ChiNext? In Episode 40 of TechBuzz China, co-hosts Ying-Ying Lu and Rui Ma talk about the new “Technology Innovation Board” on the Shanghai Stock Exchange, which formally announced its first set of rules last week. Rui and Ying-Ying explain that given its recent trajectory, this registration-based NASDAQ-style board could be launched in a few months, if not weeks — much more quickly than skeptics have assumed. With this news as the backdrop, this week’s episode serves as a quick primer into the differences between China and the U.S.’s capital markets, as well as how these contrasts may explain some of the differences in Chinese tech entrepreneurship and capital versus those in the U.S. Rui and Ying-Ying begin by walking through a brief history of Chinese domestic capital markets, which had a total market cap of $6 billion late last year and are still really young compared with those in the U.S.; in fact, both the Shenzhen Stock Exchange and the larger Shanghai Stock Exchange wer...

How does the National Equities Exchange and Quotations (NEEQ), or New Third Board, fit into all of this? Why is it that most of China’s best internet companies are listed abroad, and how does that fact play into the new Technology Innovation Board’s intentions and potential for impact? The TED of Transformation My friend Vishen Lakhiani’s exploration of peak human potential began in 2001, when he took meditation classes to remedy his crushing work stress in a New York technology company. This soon inspired him to launch Mindvalley: a company bringing transformational education to the world Back then, shortly after he launched some of his first meditation apps, I actually hosted Vishen on the podcast , in which we geeked out on meditation, and the meditation apps that Vishen and his team began designing. After 15 years, 3 million students, and numerous accolades from the likes of Huffington Post, BBC, Inc. Magazine, and WorldBlu, Mindvalley became recognized as one of the world’s top workplaces, and a leading publisher in the personal growth industry. But Vishen’s vision extended further. He believes many aspects of mainstream education remain dangerously stuck in obsolete industrial revolution-era paradigms. And that the evolution of humanity’s consciousness is lagging behind our innovations in technology. This makes the evolution of our education - or as he calls it, Transformational Education - one of our most pressing concerns. Through Mindvalley, Vishen now works with governments, education institutions, technology innovators, artists, and the world’s best teachers to create deeply transformational learning experiences: the kind that elevate people of all ages and walks of life into empowered, cosmocentric, highly evolved human beings. Today, Vishen is a leading voice for transformational education and is the founder of annual events like A-Fest and Mindvalley U, both events which I've attended and spoken at. He also speaks on stages across the world on subjects such as personal growth, education technology, and workplace culture. He sits on the Innovation Board of the XPrize Foundation, an advocate of human-centric technological development. And he’s also a bestselling author, including the incredibly popular book "Code Of The Extraordinary Mind". But Vishen’s latest mission is arguably his most audacious yet: within the next 20 years, he intends to completely evolve mankind’s approach to learning, by bringing Transformational Education to every country and Fortune 500 company on the planet. One of the ways he's doing that is via the innovative MindValley Quests, and in today's podcast, we talk about the new Beauty & Longevity Quest I've created with MindValley, and much, much more! During our discussion, you'll discover: -When and why Vishen launched Mind Valley...14:32 Wanted to start the next great social media platform in 2002. Lost everything; owed money; couldn't pay rent. Got a job selling tech info to lawyers. Ended up depressed. Hit rock bottom. Googled, "Why does life suck so bad?" Discovered class on meditation. Was the only person who showed up to the class. Began applying meditation, empathy, intuition into his work. Sales improved exponentially in 4 months. Looking to tap into the subconscious for ideas. How Vishen incorporated meditation into his sales calls: Gave his mind "instructions": Only call lawyers that are a good fit for the tech. Would benefit both sides from a sale. Ran hand over names; listened for a "gut impulse." Yes, or no. Doubled sales in one week listening to his gut. Quit sales job and became a meditation instructor. Took the Silva Mind Control; adapted to his own practice. Has now integrated with Mind Valley. "Mind Valley Intuition Program" How often do you do the Silva Mind Control? -The 113 points that are measured in the Mind Valley program...30:20 Based on an online assessment developed by Jon Butcher. Unifying different models of personal growth via merger, acquisition. Prices on programs are lowered, more available to people. -Vishen's own personal habits and bio hacks...34:00 Extremely structured life. Aspergers causes awkwardness in social situations, OCD behavior in work. Knowledge is data; focus on transformation to live a more fulfilling life. Focusing on transformation changed Vishen's outlook on life, physical appearance, mindset. Wants to have the biggest jump in consciousness in history by 2038. Vishen's Daily Routine: "Transcendent practice" Compassion Gratitude Forgiveness Creative visualization (long term) Visualize today Prayer or a blessing Intermittent fasting Cold thermogenesis Healthy morning shake Coconut oil Raw green powder Acai Protein powder Super slow strength training Very regimented work program. 8 hours per day. Family, reading, study time. -How Vishen fixed his eyesight...57:20 Read his blog post about it . Get your eyes checked from a doctor, not an optometrist. Get glasses one increment down from your actual vision. Install eye chart in your home. Get a vision coach, online vision course. Eyeglasses are a crutch! -Vishen's sleep routine...1:03:35 -The diet that Vishen promotes which mimics that of our ancestors...1:08:15 Wild Fit 80% of your body shape is what you eat. An "anti-diet" diet program. Rooted in behavioral psychology. 90 day program. Week 6-7, you go off sugar; that's when the fat starts to shed. You end up craving only what's good for you. -About the Beauty and Longevity Quest that Mind Valley did with Ben...1:19:40 -And much more... I am so thrilled today to have Tom Bilyeu on the show! I recently had the amazing opportunity and experience of being interviewed on his podcast, Impact Theory and I couldn’t wait to continue the conversation and learn even more about the similarities in our lives and business – and this time, pick his brain. Similar to my journey, Tom grew up in a family who struggled with their weight, and broke the pattern by choosing to pave a healthier way for himself and as result change the trajectory of his life at the same time. That’s why today he’s so passionate about helping others who struggle with their weight. However, Tom is the first to acknowledge that it’s not always an easy path. In fact, when it comes to success in weight loss or a business or career, nothing is guaranteed – except the pain or struggle. And to get through any of that, you must take action and also accept that you may not be right about x-y-z right now. We have to be willing to make changes if we want to see change. Tune in to learn just what Tom does that helps him do just that. He shares so many tangible takeaways for all of us to start looking at what we’re doing right now and more into our next level of life. Please let me know what thoughts or actions you put into place because of them! -- Question Highlights: Can you tell us a little about your background and what got you started in studying film? What’s the difference between finding knowledge and finding what motivates you? What is it in your mind that makes you contemplate what is good and change your path? What do you do and what do you look for in order to make sure you’re putting yourself in those spaces? What does creativity mean to you and what would your life look like without it? Where does the creation of a comic book fit into things right now? What’s your grand vision for what you’re doing right now? Do you know what that one story is? How are you seeking out the people needed for your next level? In This Episode We Talk about: Tom’s family history of obesity Why Tom’s deeply passionate about helping people who struggle with weight Why the brain is malleable until we die Embracing inadequacies 80/20 motivation principle The difference between drive and ambition How Quest Nutrition was founded on passion Why Tom wasn’t a born entrepreneur The concept of renewal in nature and in life Cultivating a frame of reference Tom’s eagerness to reinvent himself Finding fulfillment Accepting that you’re wrong about things now Why being the smartest person in the room is a trap Being “anti-fragile” Harnessing adaptability Building relationships and making authentic connections And so much more… Quotes “I’m going to believe the things that empower me.” “The gap between where you are and what you want to accomplish is a gap of skillset. It is you not being good enough.” “If you want to get to extraordinary, you’re going to have to realize that we’re rewarded and punished.” “Drive is the willingness to act on a day-to-day basis in a way that moves you toward your goals. Ambition is having the goals.” “To develop my drive, I had to suffer.” “Things that are hard are gonna be the things that develop who you are.” “What would we do and love every day even if we were failing?” “The struggle is guaranteed – the success is not.” “The skillset you already have has already taken you as far as its going to unless you do something that introduces you to a new idea that you turn into a usable skill.” -- Tom Bilyeu is the co-founder of 2014 Inc. 500 company Quest Nutrition — a unicorn startup valued at over $1 billion — and the co-founder and host of Impact Theory. Tom’s mission is to break people out of the Matrix by sharing transformative content and fostering one-to-one communication within the Impact Theory community. Tom believes that human potential is nearly limitless, but the dual pandemics of mental and physical malnutrition are hindering a realization of this potential. Through in-depth interviews with the world’s top achievers, including Gary Vaynerchuk, Maria Sharapova, and Mel Robbins, Tom explores mindset-shifting tactics, questions accepted belief systems, and uncovers distinctive strategies for success. Tom regularly inspires audiences of entrepreneurs, change makers, and thought leaders at prestigious conferences and seminars around the world, including Success Live, Hustle Con, Thrive, Abundance 360, Mindvalley’s A-fest, and Freedom Fast Lane. Tom has been featured on numerous top-rated podcasts such the Tony Robbins Podcast, The School of Greatness with Lewis Howes, Bulletproof Radio with Dave Asprey, and the Dr. Drew Podcast, and has been featured in Forbes, Inc., Success, and The Huffington Post. He is currently on the Innovation Board of the XPRIZE Foundation. Congress has handed the Defense Innovation Board a gargantuan task: Fixing the Defense Department's problems with software acquisition. But as the board's members get to work, they're finding a major problem. DoD doesn't actually have much data about how its software programs are managed. Without that information, it's hard to pinpoint exactly where the problems lie. Federal News Radio's Jared Serbu had details on what the board's doing to solve that challenge.

Today's episode reveals the breakthrough weight-loss device "Modius," from Neurovalens. This non-invasive wearable headband is helping to reduce body fat and increase wellness through activation of the vestibular nerve. JOIN THE FACEBOOK GROUP | REVIEW THIS PODCAST Traditionally, wearables have focused on tracking and monitoring. They can tell us things like how many steps we've taken, and the body's heart rate and calorie intake. But this new technology with Modius works by activating the parts of our brain that will dictate how our system holds onto fat. It creates a sensation in the mind of physical activity which will shift our metabolism and help to release excess weight. On this podcast, we talk with Tom Bilyeu, co-founder of Quest Nutrition and host of the "Impact Theory" podcast, along with Dr. Jason Mckeown, CEO of Neurovalens. They explain how combined with proper diet and exercise, Modius may control how the wellness and medical communities approach obesity in the years to come. Listen To Episode 130 As We Uncover: How to control fat loss through vestibular nerve activation Tom's fascination with neuroscience and its impact on wellness Why Tom decided to join forces with Neurovalence Jason's path that led him to study vestibular stimulation with Dr. Ramachandran The meaning behind the name "Modius" How the hypothalamus helps to control our level of body fat Why vestibular stimulation will cause a metabolic shift in our body The changes Tom can notice since wearing the Modius headband How the body uses insulin and leptin to regulate our weight and appetite Jason's health transformation after using Modius and adjusting his lifestyle The cognitive benefits that come from movement and exercise How the vestibular system can impact depression and anxiety The relation between the vagus and vestibular nerves How vestibular stimulation affects our sleep Why the effects of Modius won't lead to a dependency on the device How a gratitude practice can help reduce stress levels Top 3 Takeaways From The Show Weight loss can be challenging for many individuals. Sometimes even with proper diet and exercise, we can still hold onto fat. There is an ideal weight where the brain believes it should keep the body, and this level increases with a sedentary lifestyle and high-calorie diet. Through neurostimulation with the Modius, we can help change this determined set point for our body's fat storage and begin to release weight more easily. Don't be closed-minded to technology empowering human potential. Forward-thinking innovation is no longer a convenience, but a necessity in the wellness world. We must continuously develop our body's intuition to help regulate our health and these new tools and technologies give us an upper-hand in the process. The Modius device isn't the "end all be all" for weight loss, but it's being shown to help us get closer to our goals. We still have to adjust our lifestyle and take steps to increase our physical and emotional wellness if we want to maintain a balanced and healthy lifestyle. Power Quotes From Tom and Jason "Walking into anything with skepticism is always the wise answer." - Tom Bilyeu "I have a true passion for how electronics and technology can improve our wellness." - Dr. Jason Mckeown "Sometimes there is a gap between the on-paper science and the real world results." - Tom Bilyeu "Tracking and monitoring our actions will soon become a much larger part of our wellness." - Tom Bilyeu "Vestibular stimulation has been shown to decrease stress-related cortisol levels." - Dr. Jason Mckeown "The influence of the nervous system on the mind is profound." - Dr. Jason Mckeown "Perspective and gratitude are an essential part of our wellness." - Josh Trent "My initial response to failure is work harder, learn more, and get better." - Tom Bilyeu About MODIUS Most people would love to lose a few pounds and get a lean and healthy body. But in 2004, after he struggled to keep his US Visa, he moved back to Kuala Lumpur, at the height of a national brain drain, and years before the birth of the startup ecosystem in Asia. And so he made it his mission to built one of the best workplaces in the world in Malaysia, despite the odds. Today, Vishen leads a 200-strong team of over 40 nationalities under a multi award-winning company culture. In the past decade, Mindvalley has garnered a global reputation for being a leading edu-tech company specializing in modern learning experiences and content, launching online academies and digital platforms that publishes personal growth education in areas such as wellbeing, mindfulness, relationships, fitness, entrepreneurship and more. The company has also been recognized by the likes of Forbes, The Huffington Post, BBC and Inc. Magazine. Yet Vishen built Mindvalley with zero angel investors, venture capitalist money or government grants. "Our mission is to empower people to live healthier and happier lives, and unleash their fullest human potential (our tagline is Be Extraordinary), by introducing them to tools and ideas that are currently missing from traditional education systems," said Vishen, who is determined to help revolutionize the global education system. "Our goal? To launch a school for one billion people worldwide." Vishen is also a member of the Transformational Leadership Council and sits on the Innovation Board for XPRIZE Foundation. Through Mindvalley he has won numerous awards for company culture and workspace design. His book, The Code of The Extraordinary Mind, published by Rodale, blends evolutionary biology and computational thinking, and provides a new framework for identifying, questioning and redefining beliefs to understand and enhance the human self, drawing knowledge from from the world's brightest minds such as Elon Musk, Richard Branson, Peter Diamandis, Ken Wilber, Arianna Huffington and more.
