Andrew Wikstrom quit his full time job to hike the Pacific Crest Trail at age 50, based on a stranger's advice. He went on to move across the country, build his own kayaks, race a 340 mile race down the Missouri River, renovate buildings, summit 14ers, and just take time out of his life each month to travel wherever he feels like it to hike, kayak, and just overall explore. Marisa Laren is a Master Tattooist, Artist, 1st Form Athlete and solo Adventurist.  I was lucky enough to sit with her to discuss her journey from high school to current day. Bertrand Piccard is a psychiatrist and explorer and made history by accomplishing two aeronautical firsts – flying around the world non-stop in a balloon, and more recently in a solar-powered airplane without fuel. As Chairman of the Solar Impulse Foundation, he has succeeded in his mission to select 1000 profitable solutions to protect the environment and support clean growth.    Some interesting insights from this episode: Meeting the astronauts as a kid opened his eyes that anyone with a passion who wanted to achieve their dreams could do it. When reflecting on his decision to become an explorer, he knew there had to be new frontiers yet to be discovered. “It's like a compass showing the unknown, showing what has never been done.” The writer Paulo Coelho once said: “If you believe that adventure is dangerous, try routine. It is deadly.” He would perform self-hypnosis to relax when stressed and stay awake and vigilant while flying through the night. “Our life depends on the way we think. Once we're aware of that, we're free to think in every direction.” Failing so quickly and in such a public way on his first around the world balloon attempt liberated him, as he learned to no longer care what others thought. Why did they succeed in the around the world balloon flight when so many others failed? They never failed twice for the same reason. It took 13 years to complete the around the world solar flight starting with the initial announcement. While there were moments of doubt, that doubt allowed them to continue to refine their approach, adjust course, and surmount obstacles along the way.

Dan Wedgwood is the Marketing Director of Adventure Travel Company, The Adventurists. They create what can only be described as the most insane events on the planet such as the Ricksaw Run across India, Mongol Rally and Monkey Run through Morocco on a tiny motorbike to name a few.  In 2005 Dan took part in the Mongol Rally. In this episode Emily talks us through her journey to a diagnosis, what it's like to volunteer for Camp Purple - a camp for young people living with Inflammatory Bowel Disease run by Crohn's and Colitis NZ, and she tells us all about her experience of a lifetime... Driving a rickshaw with two fellow Crohnies across the length of India raising money for Camp Purple. I have always wanted to go to India but sometimes when you have a diagnosis of something it feels like you will never get to do fun things ever again. On today’s episode, Ute talks with Stevie Delahunt, an Equestrian Adventuress from the USA. Stevie has participated in the Mongol Derby, the Gaucho Derby, the Tevis Cup, the Wildcoast Race in South Africa and plenty of other extreme horse trails and races around the world. She uses this experience to teach other riders in boot camps, the skills they need, to participate in endurance races and extreme horse adventures. She also works for The Adventurists, the company organising The Mongol Derby and the Gaucho Derby among others. She conducts the interview with the applicants and decides together with a team who will participate and who will be rejected. She tells us about another derby which is yet secret and which will come to happen in the future and what is important for her in her interviews.
