Summary We have a seriously charismatic fella on the show this week. Doug Morneau is an expert email marketer, but he’s also an expert storyteller. His book ‘Three Big Lies: The real truth about renting email lists’ became an international bestseller, and his interview with Ben is absolutely chock-full of brilliant advice and myth-busting about marketing and entrepreneurship. It’s people like Doug that are the reason we do this podcast! See some of Doug’s top tips below: ** [9:20 - 9:50] You need desire more than you need knowledge. You can hire people with knowledge. ** [10:30-10:40] As an entrepreneur, people are not hiring you to take them 20 steps down the road. They need you to make the next two steps. Don’t avoid challenges just because you can’t see the next 20 steps. ** [13:05 - 13:30] Be aware that when you start to grow your business, your original core team might not be the right team in a few years’ time. ** [14:40-15:30] You don’t know what you don’t know. Make sure you surround yourself with people who have experience at the higher levels you aspire to. ** [20:00-20:30] Be contrary! Do what your competitors wouldn’t think to do. ** [27:55-28:15] It’s easier than ever to do effective marketing. There is so much choice these days. ** [29:30-29:50] Email can still provide far greater reach than social-media marketing. In this episode of Business Brain Food you will learn: ** How to face down imposter syndrome ** How to avoid emotional investment in colleagues ** The importance of successful friends ** Imaginary barriers explained ** How to scale ambitiously ** How marketing has changed ** Are email lists still a viable form of marketing? ** Should you buy email lists? Resources mentioned in this episode: ** If you’re a business coach, business adviser or would like to become one, go to: https://maxmyprofit.com.au/business-exceleration.html ** Go to Doug’s website: http://www.dougmorneau.com (subscribe to Doug’s email list and get a free copy of his book) ** All previous BBF episodes & show notes can be found at http://www.businessbrainfood.com.au ** Join the Business Brain Food Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/BusinessBrainFood/ ** Twitter: https://twitter.com/bfewtrell Call to action: Be bold enough to ask for something, and then be quiet and listen! [23:15] This has quite clearly worked for Doug. Also, if you are enjoying these Business Brain Food podcasts, then make sure to share them via social media sites or email the links to family and friends. A lot of time and effort goes into producing each of these podcasts with the goal in mind of the more people we can inspire about business the better. You can help us do just that! The Agents of Change: SEO, Social Media, and Mobile Marketing for Small Business
If you’re an ethical marketer, you know that buying an email list is considered “shady” and Email Service Providers such as MailChimp won’t allow you use use purchased lists on their platform. But Doug Morneau is here to explain that renting an email list is much different, and how it can help you reach more of your ideal, targeted customers. To break it down in its simplest form, email list rental – also known as “sponsored mail” – is really just another form of influencer marketing. It’s just one more way of allowing your brand/product/company to reach potential customers via their email inbox that fit a certain demographic that they’ve already shown interest in. You’re gaining a one-time right to contact them, but it’s the email list owner who conducts the actual mailing for you.

Enjoy Taylor's interview on the Real Marketing Real Fast Podcast with Doug Morneau. Here are some of the highlights:To scale your business you have to be okay with earning money off of the effort of the people on your team and trusting the people on your team.To get to six figures is pretty much your effort. But then you pass a critical mass where getting past seven figures and eight figures, you have to disconnect that. For us, it was, the first hire was a client success director.People are doing a million things, none of it works. And really targeting them towards the one, two, maybe three things that they need to be doing in their business to scale. If you really go beneath the surface, it's an identity modification company. We are rewiring the way people think about themselves, their markets, their teams, money. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Tips on how to set up a virtual office with Sarah Noked The three mistakes people make when they are working with virtual teams is they aren't clear about their goals, their virtual office set-up, and they are not leveraging the power of automation. Ideally, the point here is to delegate everything that doesn't really require you, the business owner, to do. Anything that's a recurring task should not be being done by the business owner because in that case, it can be systematized and delegated. A lot of businesses haven't leveraged something like a project management tool _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ SHARE THIS POST: HOW TO SET UP A VIRTUAL OFFICE [just click to tweet] HOW TO SET UP A VIRTUAL OFFICE Three mistakes people make working with virtual teams is they aren't clear about their goals, their virtual office set-up, and they are not leveraging the power of automation. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Doug Morneau: Well welcome back listeners to another episode of Real Marketing Real Fast. Today's guest is Sarah Noked. She is the founder of Sarah Noked OBM. She is an online business management agency and she empowers entrepreneurs and creatives in all stages of their business to grow a thriving online business. Sarah works out of her home in Israel helping entrepreneurs plan and delegate, implement the right systems, unite virtual teams across the globe, and grow profits to achieve their goals. As just one of three certified OBM trainers around the world, Sarah shares her passion for online business management through training, certification courses to empower, educate VAs and OBMs worldwide. So I'd like to welcome Sarah to the Real Marketing Real Fast podcast today. Hey Sarah, welcome to the Real Marketing Real Fast podcast today. Sarah Noked: Hey, Doug, thanks for having me on. Doug Morneau: I'm super excited to talk to you. As I shared before we started recording when Adam first introduced me to you and said, "Hey, what a wonderful person you were in how you helped save his business by systematizing it." I went, yes, my systems suck so I dove into all your stuff, been following you for weeks anticipating this conversation, so I'm happy to have you share your superpower with our audience today. Sarah Noked: I feel really honored to be here. So thank you. Doug Morneau: So do you want to just give us an overview of what OBM is for people who don't understand? Sarah Noked: Yes, that's great. So an OBM is an online business manager. So I'm sure a lot of your listeners are familiar with the virtual assistant world and what a virtual assistant does, and I like to describe an OBM as a VA on steroids. That's the easiest way to visualize it in a lot of ways. And basically what we do is we help business owners streamline their systems, manage their team, manage operations, manage things like launches, so we're like your clone, if you want to go there. I will help my client ... So typically a business owner will look to bring on an OBM when they earn a certain revenue bracket when they have a team to manage, and pretty much when they're ready to delegate their day to day operations, they don't really want to necessarily be in their business, they recognize that their time is much better spent focusing on making sales conversations, or creating products, whatever is closest to the revenue I always say. So an OBM can really help free up a client's time to focus on what only they can do in their business. Ideally, the point here is to delegate everything that doesn't really require you, the business owner, to do. Doug Morneau: it's funny, I'm often laughed at, probably not very polite but other people's expense, looking at what owners of businesses will do, an owner of a successful development company or retail store out installing rebar as they're pouring concrete for the next building I'm thinking like, man, this guy,

Most people don't actually know how to use email marketing. They look at it the same way as they do social media. Since it's (virtually) free, and people are following me, I can just talk all about me . . . right? Not so much. I recently interviewed Doug Morneau, bestselling author of Three Big Lies: The Real Truth about Renting Email Lists to Generate Targeted Leads and Sales and host of the Real Marketing Real Fast podcast. We talked all about “sponsored emails,” a form of email marketing that helps you capitalize on a ready and willing audience that you don't have to build yourself. Here's what he had to say.

Rachel Kaplan, MA, MFT has been relentlessly studying healing since her life was devastated by the traumatic suicide of her first love at 14 years old. This life long personal pursuit lead her on an international mission to study the methodologies of the world; focusing on spiritual practices of Eastern religions and the cutting edge Western psychological approaches. She is a long time yoga practitioner and teacher, meditation practitioner, as well as a bold, seasoned psychotherapist. After 25 years of studying these technologies and successfully working with students and clients, Rachel simplified the single most important and necessary tenant of deep core psychological healing as the emotional equivalent to potty training. Rachel created a new podcast, the Healing Feeling Sh*t Show, (launched February 6, 2019.) to potty train grown-ups through the foundational and educational first season so they can achieve Emotional Resilience: the new happy. Email marketing is alive and well today (actually becoming a hot topic at this very time). Email list rental and sponsored email marketing is NOT illegal. This form of advertising is misunderstood while being leveraged by top marketers. Doug Morneau is a serial entrepreneur and an expert marketer with significant experience in email marketing. He has made his clients in excess of $100 million dollars, leveraging email marketing and renting third-party email permission-based lists, making him the nation's largest media buyer of email lists. Doug has served as a past member of both the Data & Marketing Association, formerly the Direct Marketing Association (DMA), and their Technology Council, as well as the Email Experience Council (EEC). Doug is an international best-selling author of his first book, “Three Big Lies: The Real Truth About Renting Email Lists to Generate Targeted Leads and Sales.” At every event, discussion with authors, business groups, and entrepreneurs over the last 5 years the revelation has been the same. None of them realized that they could use permission-based marketing via email list rental to immediately gain access to hundreds of thousands of potential consumers of their products and services. While this lead generation marketing tactic is well known within a small circle of marketers, it's been absent in the discussion at marketing conferences, and the boardroom. If it has been discussed, email list rental has been misunderstood, wrongfully maligned, and ignored. During the biggest financial crisis in the history of the world since the great depression, Doug helped his clients raise over $100M in venture capital for their publicly traded companies by sending their story to multiple permission-based rented email lists, using online pay per click advertising, and social media. His bold aggressive strategy grew his client's businesses massively and made Doug the largest single largest purchaser of rented email lists in North America booking as much as $16M per year of this media. With Doug's extensive experience renting permission-based third-party email lists he has helped his clients to reach millions of potential investors online. In addition to online investors, he has used this targeted and responsive email media to identify and market to many industries, sectors, and consumer group matching his client's avatar or ideal customer. So was out of the lack of current and accurate information on the topic, that Doug wrote his book “Three Big Lies.” He shares the good, the bad, and the ugly truth of how to leverage third email lists. With plenty of specific details and case studies, he walks through the topic in nontechnical terms suitable for both the experience and new reader on this topic.
