Luca Forcucci is an artist and scholar of Swiss and Italian citizenships based in Berlin. His research observes the perceptive properties of sound, space and memory exploring the field of possibilities of the experience. In this context, he is interested in perception, subjectivity and consciousness. Since twenty years, the research observes also his own nomadic situation, as well as his work in various global contexts (Brazil, China, South Africa, Mozambique, USA, Europe and Switzerland). He considers the eyes and ears of the beholder in such contexts as integrally part of his thought. A great influence is the late American avant- garde composer and musician Pauline Oliveros and her concept of deep listening expanded to all what is humanly possible to listen to. Forcucci achieved a PhD in Music, Technology and Innovation from De Montfort University in U.K., and a MA in Sonic Arts from Queens University of Belfast. The research was also conducted at the University of the Arts of Berlin, INA/GRM (Institut National d’Audiovisuel / Groupe de Recherches Musicales) in Paris while investigating at Bibliothèque Nationale de France François Mittérand. He is regularly invited to lecture in universities (University of Limerick, USP São Paulo, UFRJ Rio de Janeiro, URC California, UdK Berlin, ZhDK Zürich, EPFL Lausanne, SIVA Shanghai). He has an extensive background in architecture. The artworks are presented worldwide on a regular basis (Festival Multiplicidade Rio de Janeiro, Red Bull Station São Paulo, 30th Biennale of Sao Paulo with Mobile Radio, Akademie der Künste Berlin, Miller Gallery at Carnegie Mellon Pittsburgh, The Lab Gallery San Francisco, Venice Biennale with Swatch Art Peace Hotel, MAXXI: Museum of XXI Century Arts Rome, Rockbund Museum Shanghai, House for Electronic Arts Basel, Museum of Fine Arts Le Locle). The compositions are released on Universal, Crónica Electrónica in Porto and Subrosa in Bruxelles. Forcucci have been nominated in the arts at The World Technology Summit in New York, and was the first artist in lab in residency at the Brain Mind Institute at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne. TYT's newest addition to their analog radio line is the TH-8600, which is a full-color screen dual band mini-mobile radio. Outputting 25-watts on VHF and 20-watts on UHF, and with its compact size, this radio should be a good addition to any go-kit or compact car.http://livefromthehamshack.tv

I've owned a DMR radio for about 6 months now. I've not made one contact with it! I even loaned it to a friend to see if he could unlock the magic, no dice. While at Dayton, I met Rick Zach K1RJZ at the DMR-MARC booth early one morning and began asking questions about DMR. I soon knew that I needed to have Rick on the show to help demystify this new-fangled radio technology and help get me on the air! DMR or Digital Mobile Radio is one of the hottest things happening in the Ham Radio Hobby right now. Commercial success of the mode has driven down the prices and made it accessible to the Amateur Radio hobbyist. Join us to learn how this exciting mode is quickly becoming a game changer! DMR-MARC is an all volunteer organization that has been tasked with keeping DMR in order for the community. If you are interested in getting on the air with DMR, DMR-MARC should be one of your first stops! “ Rick, K1RJZ got back to us with a mispronunciation that he’d like to correct. The multi format DMR networking platform is pronounced BRANDmiester and not BANDmiester. He knew the correct name, but it just needs a correction “ Notes from Jeremy: Tytera MD-380 Hacking: https://github.com/travisgoodspeed/md380tools . Things I wish I had known when programming the MD-380 This is a good primer to terms and concepts: http://dmr-marc.net/media/Amateur_Radio_Guide_to_DMR_Rev_I_20150510.pdf . The radio has 16 "channels" but a LOT of Zones. a Zone is a collection of channels. . Every Channel can have a scan list and a RX list. The Scan List is a list of channels that can be scanned if you tell the radio to scan while on that channel - useful if you want to scan both timeslots of the same repeater, for instance. . RXLists are lists of all of the talkgroups associated with a timeslot on the repeater. For instance, for my local K8BIG, I have two RXLists - KABIG-TS1 and K8BIG-TS2. All groups that appear on Time Slot 1 are in TS1 and same for TS2. . Worldwide, Worldwide English, and North America aren't for rag chewing - think of these as calling channels. Once contact is made, you can take your conversation over to one of the "tactical" talkgroups such as TAC-310 or TAC-311 (depending on whether or not your repeater has these talkgroups). These talkgroups are only active when someone calls for them via Push to Talk. Thanks for listening! 73 Y'all K4CDN
Original Recording Dates: October 15th, November 12th 2015 Guests: Kim, Dorota and “Dr. Mike” Kim used to volunteer for CFRU many years ago, and is now a frequent supporter of the Brant Avenue Neighbourhood space. She has this awesome idea for “Cultural Correspondents” to report radio from events across the city. I think it’s a GREAT idea, and I’m brainstorming how to implement it. The second half of the episode was an undeniable Mobile Radio highlight - Dorota and “Dr. Mike” came down to the coffee hour equipped with drums, and performed some beautiful songs and chants. The diversity and magic riddled through the Brant avenue neighbourhood is super inspiring.
Radio can be a forum for talking about art, and it can also be a form of art itself. Sarah Washington and Knut Aufermann of Mobile Radio and Tonic Train discuss the relationship between their sound experiments with electronic music and the relatively untapped potential of radio as an artistic experience. Hear about their involvement in the beginnings of England’s Resonance 104.4FM, and their present relationship with 'Radia'. We discuss the essentially place-specific nature of sound in the context of simultaneous listening communities around the world, tuning-in, being surprised, relinquishing control, and the invitation to participate in creative radio expression. Originally aired in May 2016 on CFRU 93.3FM. Sound It Out is hosted by Rachel Elliott who is a PhD candidate in Philosophy at the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada. Sound It Out is produced in conjunction with the International Institute for Critical Studies in Improvisation. The show explores whether and how improvised music can serve as a basis for discursive inclusivity, the creation of new forms of shared meaning, and more democratic means of connecting with each other. Sound It Out airs on Guelph’s campus and community radio station, CFRU 93.3FM, on alternating Tuesdays at 5pm.
